The star spirits scattered and Bowser having obtained a brand-new power in the prologue, we now begin the first chapter of the story, visiting Mario and Luigi’s house as an invitation to a party at Peach’s castle is delivered to their mailbox.
Here we see Mario like we’ve never seen him before, flat, two-dimensional, and made of paper. The Paper Mario series would give Mario his own set of distinct abilities separate from the regular Mario games, both from the RPG style of the game as well as from his properties as a paper being.
As a character, Paper Mario will naturally be much lighter than regular Mario. He is made of paper after all. He will also be flat like Mr. Game and Watch, a fact players can verify by turning the camera, and he will flap and crinkle with various attacks here and there. His moveset will pull from the entire Paper Mario library, as well as from his appearance in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
