A specific branch of the Mario series we didn’t cover in the previous roster (primarily because it would have made the main roster ungodly huge) was the RPGs, the first of which was 1996’s Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars, a joint effort between Nintendo and Square Enix. The game saw Mario going on one of his regular adventure to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, only for their battle to be interrupted by a giant sword falling from the sky and sending them all flying. Mario would wake up far away from the castle just as a young cloud boy ran past in pursuit of a thief.
This is Mallow, Mario’s first companion on his role-playing adventure, a cloud raised as a frog who would soon discover his true heritage as the true prince of Nimbus Land. He is more or less the mage of the team, with a number of powerful moves all based around weather and magic.
As a fighter, he will be light and floaty, being a cloud after all, but will pack a powerful punch with his weather attacks. His moves will pull from his moves in the game, translated for a more 2D fighter-style rather than an RPG style.
