For the Wii U also came a sequel to Super Mario 3D Land, repeating its gimmick of 2D levels in a 3D environment. This time, however, rather than Peach having to be rescued, we would see a sort of repeat of Super Mario Bros. 2’s plot, with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and a blue-spotted Toad having to rescue a race of fairies from Bowser’s clutches.
These are the Sprixies, or rather the Sprixie Princesses, rulers over the land in which Super Mario 3D World takes place. One will be rescued at the end of each world traversed, and they would then provide the way to the next level. They would see a couple of playable appearances immediately following the game’s release, but their popularity would peter out after that.
As playable fighters, they are light and floaty, as you might expect from fairies, but with surprising strength considering their skills in construction. Their moves will pull not only from their own abilities, but also from the multiple gimmicks of the world they live in, which proves to be quite different from the normal world of Mario platformers.
Likelihood rating: Probably not
