Following the theme of matching the spirit of levels, another common feature of the Mario series is water levels. Although they vary from game to game, the most common type is that presented in the very first Super Mario Bros., filled with coral and platforms and all manner of aquatic enemies.
As a stage, Cheep Cheep Lagoon will be a small-sized stage, with a single platform in the middle, bookended by two short walls of coral. Two smaller platforms will hang on the side. The stage will have its own unique physics that let the characters float around in the water, if the game designers can make it work. Players can float down under the main platform, but they had best be wary. An Unagi lurks down there and will lunge out if it sees potential prey.
