As Mario, Luigi, and Bowser each progress on their respective journeys to defeat Fawful, they soon piece together Fawful’s true goal: to harness the power of a meteor that had crashed into the Mushroom Kingdom centuries before and had been sealed away by Peach’s ancestors.
This Dark Star, however, soon turns out to be sentient and far more powerful than Fawful was prepared to deal with. Upon its awakening, it swallowed up Fawful, killing him and entering Bowser’s body, analyzing his abilities and learning how to copy them before taking on a Dark Bowser form of its own.
In game, the Dark Star will be powerful and slow, but light and floaty at the same time. It will mostly maintain its shape as the dark star, its body mutating to develop Bowser-like qualities for each of its moves, which will pull from its final boss battle as well as the unique abilities of Bowser that it copied.
