This next section will be dealing with all Mario-related characters not originating from a video game. This includes movies, television series, comics, toys and otherwise. The only exception being the original characters from the Donkey Kong Country series, who will be included in the Donkey Kong roster.
As big a deal as the Mario series is, its no surprise it has extended into other media beyond video games, from movies and television to books, comics, and toys. The earliest of these came in the Saturday Supercade, an hour block of shorts featuring characters from various arcade games. These included Donkey Kong, which starred Mario and Pauline as circus workers chasing their escaped gorilla Donkey Kong all over the country, and Donkey Kong Jr., with Junior coming to visit his father only to learn of his escape, finding a friend in a clumsy street urchin who helps him follow his trail.
This street urchin is Bones Bailey, Donkey Kong Jr.’s faithful companion and the Shaggy to his Scrappy Doo. Bones accompanies Junior through a dozen adventures, chasing lead after lead trying to find Junior’s missing father and getting into Hanna-Barbera style shenanigans along the way.
As a fighter, Bones will be slower and a little unwieldy, often more effective when stumbling into his moves than when he actually means to do so. His moves will pull from across the series, making use of Bones’ clumsy nature with most of his attacks being some of his more famous stumbles.
Likelihood rating: Non-game
