Fawful Express

Although the inside of Bowser’s body was easily the most iconic location within Bowser’s Inside Story, it also gave us the experience of fighting gigantic kaiju battles between Bowser and various giant foes, a trend which continued in Dreams Deep with a giant dream Luigi. One among these battles saw Bowser take on a living mountain, with a train adorned with Fawful’s face running in and out of it.

This stage will reflect those giant Bowser battles, specifically the fight against the mountain. Players will fight atop the Fawful Express as it races along its track, circling the battle as Giant Bowser and the mountain fight back and forth, sometimes entering the mountain’s tunnel, sometimes being affected by the twists and turns of the fight.

Bowser's Insides

One of the core draws of Bowser’s Inside Story was the concept that Mario and Luigi spent most of the game trapped inside Bowser’s body, traveling around it and fighting off threats that affected his health or abilities, while Bowser did most of the work to fight Fawful out in the overworld. Although there were many different locations and themes throughout Bowser’s body, most of it had similar attributes such as bouncy or squishy terrain and walls and platforms that responded to certain stimuli.

This stage will capture the feel of those internal levels inside Bowser’s body. It will be a medium sized stage, with a squishy main floor, bony platforms that move up and down, cartilaginous walls that appear and disappear at certain times, and stomach acid filling the bottom.

The Dark Star

As Mario, Luigi, and Bowser each progress on their respective journeys to defeat Fawful, they soon piece together Fawful’s true goal: to harness the power of a meteor that had crashed into the Mushroom Kingdom centuries before and had been sealed away by Peach’s ancestors.

This Dark Star, however, soon turns out to be sentient and far more powerful than Fawful was prepared to deal with. Upon its awakening, it swallowed up Fawful, killing him and entering Bowser’s body, analyzing his abilities and learning how to copy them before taking on a Dark Bowser form of its own.

In game, the Dark Star will be powerful and slow, but light and floaty at the same time. It will mostly maintain its shape as the dark star, its body mutating to develop Bowser-like qualities for each of its moves, which will pull from its final boss battle as well as the unique abilities of Bowser that it copied.

Durmite/Wisdurm

While Bowser seeks revenge against Fawful, Mario and Luigi wake to find themselves in Bowser’s belly, having been shrunken down and trapped inside. They then secretly work with Bowser, adventuring throughout his body to help him out and fight off invaders trying to hinder his physical abilities. When he is forced to eat a giant carrot, he accidentally consumes a parasite that causes him a terrible stomachache.

This parasite is Durmite, and while Mario and Luigi initially assume it to be merely a random bug, they soon learn its true identity as one of the star sages, whose power the brothers will need to defeat Fawful, but was transformed into her current form, requiring them to battle her again to restore her.

As a fighter, Durmite and her alternate form as the sage Wisdurm will be alternate color swaps. She will be strong and heavy, but with some floaty elements to her as well. Her moveset will pull from both of her major battles and her role as a Star Sage.

Broque Monsieur

Cast out of the castle with his minions, the Mario brothers, and the princess nowhere to be found, Bowser sets out to reclaim his kingdom and get his revenge on Fawful. He doesn’t go too far before he encounters a strange merchant made of blocks, working in the business of peddling the various item blocks found throughout the game.

This is Broque Monsieur, a flamboyant Frenchman who provides Bowser with a number of upgrades he needs to fight Fawful and Midbus. The merchant would appear again in the game’s sequel, Dream Team, accompanying the Mario brothers and Princess Peach to his home on Pi’illo Island, where a number of others of his species live and work.

Broque Monsieur will only take up the first color swap slot, a number of his other more prominent fellows acting as alternates, such as Madame Broque and Boss Brickle. Their moveset will pull from the various power-ups Broque provides Bowser, including his dog Broggy, and will also pull from various tools and items used by the blocky race throughout Dream Team as well.

Midbus

The Mario & Luigi series will also see a third entry, this time in Bowser’s Inside Story. Fawful is back, bent on revenge for the Mario brothers’ defeat of his mistress two games before. He feeds Bowser a strange mushroom that causes him to inhale the Mario brothers and Princess Peach, and then sends his own minion, a big musclebound pig, to toss Bowser out, leaving the villain free to take over both Peach’s and Bowser’s castles.

This big pig minion is Midbus, Fawful’s faithful right-hand man throughout Bowser’s Inside Story and the go-to villain to face off against Bowser, matching him in terms of strength and ability, fighting him multiple times and forming an impenetrable wall between him and Fawful.

As a fighter, I think it only natural that Midbus match Bowser in terms of attributes such as speed and strength, basically matching him beat for beat. His moveset will pull from all his various boss battles across the game, both his regular form and his final blizzard form that gives him power over ice.

Fawful

Cackletta is not alone in her scheming, as she is helped along by a diminutive mad scientist with big teeth, swirling glasses over his eyes, a strange way of talking, and insane devotion to his mistress.

This is Fawful, Cackletta’s right hand man, who would survive the end of the game and go on to be a major villain for the next two sequels, his master plan coming to fruition in Bowser’s Inside Story. While Cackletta was focused on the magic, Fawful supplied her with technology, their combined talents proving a formidable force against our heroic brothers.

As a fighter, Fawful will be fast and tricky, using all manner of technology to get an edge on his opponents. For his moves, he will pull from all of his battles across both Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story.

Mario & Luigi

Paper Mario proved a huge success, but AlphaDream Studios had other ideas for directions to go with an RPG for the new Game Boy Advance system. They put together a new game called Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, built on the concept of the player controlling Mario and Luigi as a single unit.

With this new concept, the player controlled Mario and Luigi together, Mario programmed to two buttons on the pad and Luigi to two others. Together, they could switch back and forth as the leader and could perform a number of combo moves both in and out of battle.

This character is based on that concept. Mario and Luigi would be stylized to look like the art style of the Mario & Luigi series, differentiating them from the normal Mario and Luigi designs. Their moves would pull from all of their combo moves across the entire series, with two different versions based on which character is in the lead.

Bowser

The player has now worked their way through the first four levels of 1983’s Super Mario Bros. They have faced walking mushrooms, flying turtles, and man-eating plants, and have finally made it to the castle. They fight their way through spinning bars of fire and pits of lava, finally reaching the end to come face to face with a large turtle with horns and a spiky shell, jumping and breathing fire over a destructible bridge.

This is Bowser, the king of the Koopas and Mario’s perennial villain. Known as King Koopa outside of the west, Bowser is obsessed with kidnapping Princess Peach, either for political power over the Mushroom Kingdom, or even for his own infatuation with the princess. He has battled Mario time and time again, across hundreds of settings, ultimately losing every single time.

As a player, he is heavy and powerful, probably one of the heaviest in the game, with brutal attacks coming at the cost of speed. His moves pull from all over his games and every boss battle he has been a part of, including fire breath, butt bashes, the throwing of giant boulders, and even growing to gigantic proportions.

Character Sheet: Durmite/Wisdurm

 DURMITE/WISDURM

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

I wasn't going to include this one, as, even though the character had a bunch of moves, she didn't feel like an important enough character to include (similar to the Massif Bros. in this same batch), but then upon further reflection, I remembered Jonathan Jones, and Rawk Hawk, and Francis, all with an arguably smaller role than she did, and I really didn't have much of a case. Durmite is a strange parasitic worm the brothers discover inside of Bowser's body that they have to fight off, only to later discover that she is in fact a fairy guarding one of the Star Cures needed to defeat Fawful, and was transformed into a bug in order to get at the Cure.

She has three different forms, her bigger blue worm form Durmite, her tiny pink fairy form Wisdurm, and her pink worm form somewhere in between. I figure all three will be present, at least as color swaps but will still generally fight the same way. Across your various battles with her, she attacks you in various ways, including charging at you, sucking things up through a straw, eating enemies with her Birdo-like mouth, spit webs and swing around on them, get bigger, drop a giant heart crystal out of the sky on someone, shoot stars with her magic wand, and shrink you down. Definitely plenty to work with for me. Let's see what we can do.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Crystal Heart

She will wave her wand around, summoning a large crystal heart into the air a little bit in front of her and letting it slam down on anything beneath it.

Side B: Star Stream/Web Stream

This functions on the same principle, but appears differently in different battles. In one form, she shoots a string of web and sweeps it back and forth. In another, it's a stream of stars but acts much the same. This would play out on the smash stage as well.

Up B: Web Swing

She would spit a string up into the air, let it latch onto something, and then swing upwards the way she does in the game.

Down B: Straw

She would stick someone with her straw from the game and begin draining health from them for as long as she can hold them. This would restore her own health as well.

Final Smash: True Form

She would revert to her true form of Wisdurm, wave her wand into the air, making Star Cures appear in the air behind her, and then she cast a spell across the entire stage, causing every fighter to shrink down to minuscule size.

Entrance: She'd wriggle her way up from the underground.

Taunts: Up, she would wiggle her wand-tail around. Side, she would curl up and snooze for a second. Down, she would flare her snout and get angry for a second.

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

So, apparently in most other languages, this guys names is something along the lines of Mettaboss and the English version just dumbified it. I mean, it's okay I guess. He's still a cool character (not just because of his final fate), it just would have been cooler if that was the name I had grown up knowing. Ah, well. Midbus is a giant pig monster who serves Fawful in Bowser's Inside Story as Fawful's general and a heavyweight who can go toe-to-toe with Bowser in terms of physical strength. Obviously you have a few battles with him across the game, and plenty to work with from those.

In his main form, he can throw a gigantic punch like Bowser's, roll up into a ball similar to how Bowser does, leap into the air and belly flop on top of you, swing around a heavy iron ball, and puff out his stomach to protect himself. In his Blizzard form, the final form you fight him in, he takes on a more icy personal, throwing snowballs, creating snowmen to fight you, climbing up walls, divebombing down on top of you, and rolling up into a snowball.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Giant Punch/Snow Punch

He will function on a similar level to Joker, in that he will have just his base form, which is slightly weaker, then at a certain point he can power up into his Blizzard Form which gain ice and snow properties. His standard B will just have him pull back and throw a giant punch, but in Blizzard Form, a snowman will appear in front of him and he will punch the snowman's head off throwing it as a projectile.

Side B: Ball Roll/Snowball

In his standard form, he will roll up into a ball and roll around the stage. In Blizzard Form, he will roll up into a giant snowball, doing the same but with much more damage.

Up B: Belly Flop/Divebomb

In his regular form, he will leap up into the air and come down on his belly, bouncing up again if he lands just right. In his Blizzard Form, he will climb and ice wall created under his hands and feet and then launch himself off in a divebomb maneuver.

Down B: Hammer Toss/Snowball Throw

In his regular form, this will be the move where he swings a giant steel ball around himself. In his Blizzard form, the ball is replaced with a snowball that he will spin and throw.

Final Smash: Blizzard

His blizzard machine from his final battle will appear on the stage, whipping up a terrible blizzard and freezing everyone in sight in the same way that he is ultimately frozen.

Entrance: He will simply tromp on all matter-of-factly the way he does in-game

Taunts: Up, he will look up to the sky and snort angry. Side, he will pound his fists together angrily, steam coming from his ears. Down, he will crouch down and stretch his back.

 THE DARK STAR

Today, we begin our newcomers. 23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Now, I wasn't too big of a fan of the Dark Star at first. From my perspective, I had been excited to see an epic showdown between the Mario Bros. and Fawful, a satisfying conclusion to the rivalry that had been brewing across three games, only for Fawful to be completely superseded by a big, evil personality-less force in the last act, and for Fawful the character to go out like a little snitch. That said, having now looked at the character a little more closely for this series of blogs, I may have been a little unfair to it. It certainly has a bit more personality than I gave it credit for, its concept gives an interesting battle mechanic for the brothers and Bowser, and I think most are agreed that its theme song slaps.

The Dark Star starts out as just this mysterious and powerful meteor that fell from the sky that Fawful tries to harness the power from and use for his own personal gain, only for Fawful to be screwed over by his own hubris and for the Dark Star to break free and turn against him. The dark star walls created by Fawful should be considered here. For the first part of its major role in the story, it wanders around the inside of Bowser's body, copying all information it can gather on its host and then incorporating that into its own abilities. Those include being able to grow an arm to mimic Bowser's strong punch, being able to breathe fire like Bowser, and mimicking Bowser's spiky shell as well, eventually forming itself into a complete copy of Bowser (because we always have to end on a Bowser fight). That said, this works for our purposes, because he can almost act entirely as a separate gimmick rep for Bowser's moves as represented in this game. Once it takes on the full Bowser form, it can suck in (a prominent feature of this game), create a thick blanket of fog, throw lightning, create little dark copies of Fawful, fire lasers, bounce around at high speed, whip up a dark hurricane, trap his enemies in a cage of darkness, and throw a giant rock. I think that's more than good enough here.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Vacuum Breath

The move that kickstarted the plot and resulted in the death of Fawful, the Dark Star will open a mouth and suck in those that got too close to it. I should say here that my concept for the character will have the Dark Star in its regular for, but with each move, its body will shift to grow the part needed for the attack.

Side B: Mega Punch

This is based on the super strong punch used by Bowser in the game that is then mimicked by the Dark Star. The Dark Star will grow a muscular arm, pull back tightly, and then punch with all of its might.

Up B: Spiky Shell

This pulls from Bowser's usage of his shell unique to this game, that the Dark Star then mimics, but also pulls from his own moves during the final battle. The Dark Star will curl up into a spiky ball, just like Bowser in his shell and then will bounce itself higher and higher.

Down B: Dark Star Wall

This is based on the walls created by Fawful in order to prevent the Mario Bros. entering Peach's Castle. Basically, the Dark Star will summon the wall in front of itself as a shield, but the wall will remain where it is for a short time, allowing the Dark Star to move freely separate from it.

Final Smash: Dark Hurricane

This is based on the powerful dark storm whipped up by the Dark Star during the final battle. The storm will rage across the stage, sucking up the various characters and launching them into the sky.

Entrance: The Star will rise from the crater it formed when it landed.

Taunts: Up, the Star will form a dark spot of energy directly over its head that will crackle for a second. Side, the Star will squint at an opponent for a second and then mimic either a fist, gun, or sword with its own body, depending on the opponent's weapon of choice. Down, the star will create a tiny clone of Fawful and watch it scurry around for a second.

Now, you who are reading this must speak of FAWFUL! Ohoho, yes, it is true. Fawful is single greatest villain to ever menace twin plumbers garbed in green and red. Fawful began his illustrious career in the service of his beautiful and wicked mistress, the Great Cackletta. But woe is Fawful, for stupid plumbers of green and red killed her to death. Now Fawful has fury! He hide out all throughout game starring purple alien mushrooms, yes. He run shop while plotting his great revenge, which he carry out in next game, dubbed Inside the Story of Large Green Turtle, where he has ascended to full and glorious villain, seeking out the Dark Star of great legend.

The great Fawful have many awe-inspiring abilities which can be utilized for great evil purpose in silly action fighting game known as Smashing the Supers who are Brothers. First, he have flying hat of his own invention, with which he can spray a powerful beanbean toxin, shoot dazzling laser beams, and use in a similar fashion to a vacuum cleaner. He can then throw lightning bolts from antenna affixed atop his head, create a dome to shield him from silly plumber's pitiful attacks, and create ring of lasers around himself. As part of his great and brilliant revengeful plotting, he uses mushrooms good for creating inflation known as blorbs, and also mushroom that creates great shrinking vacuum breath. He has much bigger flying machine on which he stands, much more powerful than silly flying hat from first game. On this machine, he can shoot energy beam laser, extend giant mechanical hand, and fire rockets. Absorbing power of the Dark Star, he creates walls of impenetrable force, through which only powerfully strong attack can get through. He also learns to float in air, summon shooting stars and balls of energy and holes of worm and misty fog through which none can see. Upon taking supreme control of the castle owned by Pink Princess of the fruit variety, he fawfulize many, many minions, imprinting his own most glorious face instead of their own hideous faces. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Now, I turn over to strange and ugly otherworldly being typing Fawful's words on strange alien device for Smashing the Supers who are Brothers rundown.

Standard B: Bean Gas

Um, anyway, whatever that was about. As you might have guessed, Fawful is all about technology, so I figure he will be a bit similar to Mega Man and have a number of beam and projectile attacks outside of his special moves, so a lot of his moves, like his lightning and his energy ball attacks, I'll save for those. For his standard B, he will spray the terrible green gas that he uses on Princess Peach at the very beginning of Superstar Saga. This will do heavy poison damage to anyone who walks through, and will turn their faces green for a short time.

Side B: Rockets

Fawful will fire off a pair of rockets from his back, which will heat seek toward the nearest players.

Up B: Jetpack Helmet

As his Bowser's Inside Story base platform will likely act as part of his body throughout regular gameplay, I figure his flying helmet from Superstar Saga can make an appearance here as his Up Special. He will fire its rocket boosters and it will carry him upward.

Down B: Energy Dome

For this one, I will use his shielding move from Superstar Saga. He will crouch down and will project a dome of energy around himself that will electrify any who come too close.

Final Smash: Dark Star Fawful

Um, a few possibilities here. One is the living version of Princess Peach's Castle created by him (but I'd kinda want to see it as a stage honestly), another is maybe the Blorbs or the Vacuum Mushroom. (Both are a little un-aggressive, so I'm not sure), but I feel the best would see him transform into the shadowy husk clone made of him by the Dark Star after he has been absorbed into it. The Fawful creature would appear on the stage and perform a number of its attacks, including creating wormholes around the stage.

Entrance: He will float down on his flying machine and chortle for a second.

Taunts: Up, he will shout "I have FURY!!" in bold text (might do damage, I don't know). Side, he will chortle his famous laugh. Down, he will tuck down and glance back and forth surreptitiously.

Thank you, puny mortal, for reading about the great and glorious Fawful. Return the day after this day to read about strange alien woman responsible for attack on kingdom of Pink Fruit Princess.

 BROQUE MONSIEUR

Today, we begin our newcomers. Time to get into weird territory. I can already feel the raised eyebrows. Trust me, I raised an eyebrow at myself as the moveset started to come together in my head as I was watching through Bowser's Inside Story and Dream Team, but my rule has always been that if they can make their case to me, I can't say no. So here they are. Technically, this will not just be the merchant with the obnoxiously written accent from Inside Story, but will be a composite of Broque Monsieur, Broque Madame, Boss Brickle, and Britta, each one being a color swap with one alternate color respectively. Broggy and the Blitties will also play into their moveset.

In Inside Story, Broque Monsieur primarily interacts with Bowser, creating blocks and selling them to him to give him added abilities. He expresses an obsession will little block cats called Blitties that Bowser then has to collect. Once he has collected enough, Broque will let Bowser make use of his large block dog Broggy as a special attack. Madame Broque also appears, and asks Bowser to give her a massage by . . . body slamming her back? Eh, whatever she's into, I guess. In Dream Team, we meet more of the Broque species, including Boss Brickle and his crew who are in charge of tending the gardens and fountains around Pi'illo Castle, and Britta, who runs an excavation crew out in the desert. Boss Brickle does a lot of handiwork, but two items of note are the Grobot, a malfunctioning watering robot, and a burst pipe that tends to send people sky high. And then we have Britta, who supplies the brothers with a special device called the drilldigger that they can drive around a track and use to drill and destroy rocks and blockages. Once I saw that, I knew it was over and they were in.

Here's the moveset:

Standard B: Block Maker

This is a move I've been messing with forever with Mario, Luigi, and the Toads, but as it's central to the concept of Broque and his species as a whole, it's only fitting for it to appear here. Broque (et al) will put together an item box and toss it up into the air. At that point, anyone can hit it and a random item will pop out.

Side B: Blitties

Broque will send a line of Blitties forward that will then jump up and tackle any opponent nearby for moderate damage.

Up B: Burst Pipe

This one is largely based on Boss Brickle. A pipe will burst underneath the character, spewing them into the sky and causing water to splash around the stage and do minimal damage.

Down B: Drilldigger

This one is based on Britta and her drilldigger machine. Using this move will make the drilldigger appear under the character and then you can press left or right to make the specific drill slam down, possibly doing damage to two different opponents at a time.

Final Smash: Broggy

Now, I was iffy on placement here. You could put a toned down version of Broggy in the Side B slot, use the Blitties for Standard B, and then use Grobot or the Dreamy Drilldigger as the final smash. As it is, I like the idea of Broque calling out Broggy, at which point Broggy would charge angrily across the stage.

Entrance: I would have the character start out in Broque's stand.

Taunts: Up, they will hold up a Blitty that will wriggle in their hand. Side, Grobot will come out and water the ground, making a flower grow. Down, they will lay down in various ways, Madame laying in her sexy pose.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover another oddball pick, the Massif Bros.

Character Sheet: Mario & Luigi

 MARIO & LUIGI

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, we'll be covering Mario and Luigi. Now, I know, I know, we already have a Mario and a Luigi and several other variants in between. Isn't it a bit extraneous to just have them both working as a pair. So, I guess to be more specific, this is Mario & Luigi as they appear in the Mario and Luigi RPG series, with moves based entirely on their tag-team abilities in those games, and stylized to look like the game series' distinct style. Their star companion Starlow will also be a technical third member of the team, as she will fly around them and appear in a number of moves and taunts.

Across the games, the brothers have a butt-ton of moves to work with, and I will do my best to sort them out for you. They have base moves like jumping and swinging their hammers, and they can also use hand-abilities like shooting fireballs and lightning. They can switch around which brother is in the front, which can then affect which abilities they can perform. For instance, with Mario behind Luigi, he can put fire to Luigi's back and make him run faster. But in the reverse way, Luigi can electrify and paralyze Mario and pull him backwards. They can also perform various jumps, like the Spin Jump to spin on top of each other, or the high jump to bounce off of each other. They can also either smack each other with a hammer to make them tiny and then smack them around like a ball, or bury them underground at which point they can then pop up under an item or unsuspecting enemy. They also have a ton of Super-Moves to be used in battle, any one of which can be utilized as the "Final Smash." Honestly, it's a take-your-pick on that one.

Here's the moveset I've come up with:

Standard B: Fire Bros. OR Thunder Bros.

My concept for them is almost two separate movesets. Pressing Down B will switch whichever brother is up front, and then they will have different moves across the board. Much like Min Min, A and B will function to control the different brothers in that state, A controlling the one up front, so that his Standard A move will utilize his fire or lightning as a mere projectile, but the B will control the one in the back. With Mario in the back, he will light a fireball on Luigi, giving him a boost of speed. Luigi in the back will let him freeze up Mario and move him around as a human shield and give them added defense.

Side B: Ball Bros. OR Dig Bros.

Side A will make use of the brothers' hammers, just swinging them around with little difference. Side B, however, if Luigi is in the back, he will smack and shorten Mario and then smack him in the butt, sending him flying forward as a ball. If Mario is in the back, he will send Luigi straight into the ground. Luigi will stay that way until you press up, at which point he will fly up out of the ground, striking any walking over him.

Up B: Spin Jump OR High Jump

If Luigi is in the back, he will jump up on top of Mario and the pair will spin in the famous spin jump. If you just press the command, they will raise and spin side to side, though you can make them fly upward with another upward press, or send them into a side drill with a sideways press. If Mario is in the back, Luigi will pull out a spring cap and let Mario hop on top of him and send him flying skyward.

Down B: Switch Bros.

Basically, this will just switch them.

Final Smash: Bros. Attack

Honestly, there are soooooooo many fitting for a final for them, and I honestly have no idea which to pick from the large number of them. So, my stance is, pick your favorite. I have a few, like the one where they fire a bunch of fireballs into a massive meteor that then slams down on the enemy, or the one where they hop into a bunch of pipes and fire them off. It's possible it could be different based on who's in front like the other moves. Whichever you pick.

Entrance: They'll rise from the ground in one of those big pipes with the two sets of footprints on them.

Taunts: Most of their victory poses are fun. Up could be their victory screen with them punching the air and saying "Go Weegee, Go Weegee." Side could have Starlow fly around them and pull at Luigi's mustache. Down, could have both brothers fall asleep and Starlow float around them like she can't believe they're sleeping at a time like this.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover the dashing prince of the Beanbean Kingdom, Prince Peasley!

Character Sheet: Toadsworth

 TOADSWORTH

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, we will begin with Toadsworth, who was left out previously largely because Toadette was Toad's echo fighter, and I just didn't care enough about the character to give him a separate slot when he was largely just another Toad in terms of moves. However, when Professor Toad gave me the inspiration needed to make Captain Toad his own separate character, suddenly we had the freedom to, shall we say, move around some stuff. Toadette could be an echo of Toad or Captain Toad and it would work either way. And freeing up Toad left a nice opening for a Mario regular who'd been waiting in the wings long enough.

Here's his moveset:

Standard B: Pick Up and Throw
Probably a much weaker throw than the regular Toad

Side B: Ice Flower OR Boomerang Flower
Or maybe using his magic wand, which we can then retroactively give to the Toads.

Up B: Propeller Hat

Down B: Treasure Chest
Just pulls out items he can use or give to others.

Final Smash: Mega Mushroom
Honestly, the idea of Toadsworth tromping around as a giant adds a bit of a comedy element to it, I think.

Entrance: He steps out of a Toad House and clears his throat.

Taunts: I've recently had it pointed out to me that the taunts generally have a subtle direction to them. The Up Taunt has some kind of upward movement, Side is side-to-side or neutral, and Down has a downward movement. I'm going to try my hand at that. Up, he will wave his wand in the air and cause magic to appear. Side, he will do his signature cough. Down, he will sit down and take a load off for a while.

Next up: Let's cover Captain Toad, who is either the echo of Toadette or Toadette is the echo of him, whichever you prefer.

Character Sheet: Wiggler (Revision)

 WIGGLER

This will largely be our last run of revisions, for the Mario series at least. Now that the RPGs are over, pretty much every game left is either something we've already covered for the most part (Remakes, etc.), or run on a core game mechanic not unique to any one character (the Sports games). So, once these are done, I will do character sheets for new characters added and just a general sum up for everyone else. With all that said, let's get into it:

1. Mario
2. Luigi
3. Professor E. Gadd
4. Princess Peach
5. Toad
6. Toadette
7. Bowser
8. Dry Bowser
9. Bowser Jr.
10. Koopalings
11. Koopa Troopa
12. Dry Bones
13. Goomba
14. Piranha Plant
15. Boo
16. Cheep Cheep
17. Blooper
18. Bob-Omb
19. Lakitu
20. Monty Mole
21. Spike
22. Hammer Bro
23. Chargin' Chuck
24. Wiggler
25. Chain Chomp
26. Birdo
27. Petey Piranha
28. King Boo
29. Paper Mario
30. Yoshi
31. Baby Mario
32. Baby Bowser
33. Kamek
34. Shy Guy

Today, let's cover the Wiggler species. As is relatively common now, the Wigglers play notable roles in several games, generally having been ticked off in some way and the Mario brothers having to calm them down and then gain their help to get through an area. This type of plot appears in Dream Team, Paper Jam, and kind of in Bowser's Inside Story. Not really much new to say, as the Wigglers in question do a lot of what we expect of them anyway, although I did take notice of a ground pound they liked to do to make shockwaves occur this time.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Panel

Side B: Charge

Up B: Flutter

Down B: Earthquake
I guess I already covered that part. Ah well.

Final Smash: Mechawiggler

Entrance: waking up from sleep.

Taunts: Bouncing a ball on his nose, rolling his body segments here and there.

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover the Chain Chomps.

 BOWSER

This will largely be our last run of revisions, for the Mario series at least. 8. Dry Bowser
9. Bowser Jr.
10. Koopalings

23. Chargin' Chuck
24. Wiggler
25. Chain Chomp
26. Birdo
27. Petey Piranha
28. King Boo
29. Paper Mario
30. Yoshi
31. Baby Mario
32. Baby Bowser
33. Kamek
34. Shy Guy

Today, let's cover Bowser, who had a pretty sizeable role in pretty much every game here, acting as a secondary antagonist, ally, and even playable protagonist in Bowser's Inside Story. You fight him several times across the games, not least because the Mario & Luigi games felt the need to end on a Bowser battle whether or not he was the main villain of the game.

A lot of it is pretty basic Bowser stuff, like breathing fire, stomping, throwing hammers, spinning in his shell, causing shockwaves, punching, body slamming, charging, grabbing, throwing bombs, and flying around in his Koopa Klown Kar, but several other things are more specific to each game. In Origami King, he spends most of the game folded up into a square, but he still helps where he can. In his Bowser's Inside Story moveset, he can suck things in, roll around as a spike ball, and use his minions for various attacks. His final battle in each is a sort of super form, with Cackletta and Princess Shroob possessing him in the first two, the Dark Star mimicking him in the third, gaining a Dreamy Form in Dream Team, and wearing his paper counterpart as a suit of armor in Paper Jam.

Here's his moveset:

Standard B: Fire Breath
Can't do without it.

Side B: Boulder
Although rolling around in a ball like he did in Inside Story would be pretty cool.

Up B: Shell Spin

Down B: Slam Down
Standard shockwave thing. Still should have a shifter to Dry Bowser though for consistency.

Final Smash: Giant Bowser
Maybe we can shake it up and have some of these other giant forms show up now and then.

Entrance: Bowser will land in his Koopa Klown Kar.

Taunts: His evil laugh from Super Mario 64, many of his taunts from Odyssey and other games, holding up a captive something or other, the list goes on.

Next up: Let's cover Dry Bowser real quick!

Character Sheet: Princess Peach (Revision)

 PRINCESS PEACH

This will largely be our last run of revisions, for the Mario series at least. Now that the RPGs are over, pretty much every game left is either something we've already covered for the most part (Remakes, etc.), or run on a core game mechanic not unique to any one character (the Sports games). So, once these are done, I will do character sheets for new characters added and just a general sum up for everyone else. With all that said, let's get into it:

1. Mario
2. Luigi
3. Professor E. Gadd
4. Princess Peach
5. Toad
6. Toadette
7. Bowser
8. Dry Bowser
9. Bowser Jr.
10. Koopalings
11. Koopa Troopa
12. Dry Bones
13. Goomba
14. Piranha Plant
15. Boo
16. Cheep Cheep
17. Blooper
18. Bob-Omb
19. Lakitu
20. Monty Mole
21. Spike
22. Hammer Bro
23. Chargin' Chuck
24. Wiggler
25. Chain Chomp
26. Birdo
27. Petey Piranha
28. King Boo
29. Paper Mario
30. Yoshi
31. Baby Mario
32. Baby Bowser
33. Kamek
34. Shy Guy

Today, let's cover Princess Peach. Although she appears in all games covered here, she really doesn't have much to go on. Most of the games, she spends half her time held captive by the respective enemy, and the other half of the time just kinda hanging around in the hub area. She gets cursed a couple times, gaining literally explosive vocabulary and growing a mushroom face at one point, but its pretty basic for her this time.

Here is her moveset:

Standard B: Group Hug
It's a good thing I got rid of that Toad counter move altogether considering certain coming developments. (Spoilers)

Side B: Sleepy Time

Up B: Parasol

Down B: Parasol Shield

Final Smash: Psych Bomb

Entrance: She floats down from the sky on her parasol.

Taunts: Her kiss of Mario at the end of many games could be one, a lot of her small movements throughout her cutscenes perhaps, some of her victory screens maybe.

Next up: It's time for Toad!

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

MARIO & LUIGI: BOWSER'S INSIDE STORY

Today, it's time to cover the third game in the Mario & Luigi series and the grand finale of the "Fawful trilogy" as it were. Bowser's Inside Story follows Mario and Luigi as they end up inside of Bowser's stomach after Fawful spreads a virus throughout the Mushroom Kingdom to inflate Toad's to balloon proportions and feeds Bowser a mushroom that causes him to suck the brothers inside. The brothers then have to work within Bowser's body to lead him to take on Fawful and save both his kingdom and their own.

Our main playable characters this time around are Mario and Luigi working together as a tag team once again, and Bowser on his own separate missions. Mario and Luigi perform a lot of their basics, like jumping, swinging around hammers, kicking shells, and throwing fireballs. The spin jump returns, allowing them to spin on top of each other once again to cover short distances through the air, as well as Mario filling up on water to spit it out and the two drilling into the ground. They also have a few combo moves to use in battle this time around, including a helmet that allows them to spring off of each other, a barrel cannon that fires them as a ball at enemies, a giant bouncy ball, a meteor they smack with their hammers, a pipe that spins to shoot them, filling Luigi up with snacks to throw him, a magic window they teleport through, and a falling star.

Bowser has a number of abilities of his own throughout the game. In normal gameplay, he can punch, breath fire, suck things in, pull and push heavy items, body slam, and roll around as a spike ball. In battle, he has a few special moves mostly based on his minions. These include lighting a bunch of Goombas on fire to drop them on enemies, having a bunch of Shy Guys fling him at the enemy using a slingshot, spinning into other Koopas to send them at enemies, slide a string of Bob-Ombs into an enemy to explode, and call in a team of Magikoopas to cast spells at enemies. He can also grow giant to take part in gigantic monster battles. Most of his attacks there are giant punches and breathing fire and stuff.

We have a handful of supporting characters to talk about, like Starlow, a little star spirit character who acts as your exposition character a la Kersti and Huey. She doesn't really do much besides give you advice and lend you star power, but she does lift the brothers to safety at one point. She's mostly fine. She hasn't become needlessly antagonistic toward Luigi for some reason yet. More on that later. Princess Peach also appears throughout the game, as well as Toadsworth, Kamek, and a number of Toads. There's also Broque Monsieur and Broque Madame, a pair of yellow-block-beings who speak with annoyingly hard-to-read French accents. Broque Madame mostly just lets Bowser massage her (long story), while Broque Monsieur builds and sells you blocks that give Bowser new abilities. He also has a giant block dog named Broggy who can also help Bowser in battle. I suppose I should also mention the cowardly backstabbers Private Goomp, Sergeant Guy, and Corporal Paraplonk of Bowser's army.

Fawful is our main villain for most of the game, alongside his new minion Midbus, although both get a bit overshadowed at the end by the sentient Dark Star, who becomes the game's main boss. For Fawful, obviously we start the game with his blorb and vacuum mushrooms to antagonize the Mushroom Kingdom with. He flies around on a flying machine most of the time, using technology like an energy beam laser, a giant hand he uses to grab Peach, and rockets. He also makes use of the Dark Star to summon walls to block your way, float, throw shooting stars and energy balls, create wormholes, and summon fog. He also self-destructs in the end.

Midbus is a big beefy bruiser of a pig who mostly acts as a physical matchup to Bowser. He will punch like Bowser, roll up into a ball, belly flop, swing around a heavy ball, puff out his stomach, and that's before his Blizzard form. Once he upgrades, he gains ice powers like throwing snowballs, creating snowmen to fight for him, climb up walls and divebomb you, and roll into a giant snowball. As for the Dark Star itself, once it gains some self-awareness, he starts by copying much of Bowser's abilities, like his punch, fire breath, and spiky shell, eventually growing into a full Dark Bowser form (because we always have to end on a Bowser fight). As Dark Bowser, he can suck in, create fog, throw lightning, create minions to fight for him, fire lasers, bounce around the stage, summon a dark hurricane, create a cage of darkness, and throw a giant rock.

We have a handful of bosses to throw your way, such as the Sea Pipe Statue that shoots Bloopers at you, the parasite Scutlet who blocks a part of Bowser's body and attacks by sticking out its tongue, a group of cells called Kretin that combine and shoot electricity at you, a sage named Chakron who stands perfectly still, and a trash machine called Junker who sucks you in and throws garbage at you. Giant Bowser faces off against a few himself including his own flying castle, a derpy-looking Tower of Yikk that also pretty much just flies, a train and mountain controlled by Fawful that fires missiles at you, and Super Peach's Castle of Fury, an upgraded form of Peach's castle that shoots you will lasers, fires cannons at you, uses spikes and shields, and creates black holes. Last but not least, I want to talk about Durmite, or Whisdurm, a fairy creature that was turned into a worm that Bowser ate, I guess. She appears a lot, and I was a bit on the fence about her. Let's see. She will charge at you, suck things up through a stray, eat enemies, spit webs, swing around on the web, grow bigger, create a heart-shaped crystal with a magic wand to slam onto you, shoot stars at you, and shrink you. I mean, I guess I included characters like Francis and Jonathan Jones, and she's in their camp mostly, so . . . I don't know. I'll come back to her.

Returning enemies in the game include Monty Moles, Wigglers, Shy Guys with leaves and pirate ships and stuff, Spinies, Bob-Ombs, Piranha Plants, Cheep Cheeps, Bloopers, Chain Chomps and other enemies Fawful-ized to have his weird eyes and smile. Other enemies outside the body include fat, candy-carrying Goombas called Chuboombas, Pokeys made out of teeth called Toothies, Drillbit Crabs, penguins called Pendrils, haunted trees called Treevils, treasure chests called Trashures, living socks called Sockops, seed-spitting flowers called Flifits, steam-powered Goombas called Choombas, flying Mario noses called Noozes, Fawfulized ants, living beehives called Beehosses, Fawfulized creatures called Crawfuls that slide on banana peels, imprisoned Goombas called Jailgoons, and big Fawful mechs.

Inside of Bowser's body are a whole host of new enemies. These include: Goombules, basically Goombas; Spike Blops, basically Spinies; Bubble Bloopers, basically Bloopers; Protobatters who smack balls of plasm at you with clubs; Tenderlings, walking chunks of meat; Calorites, cells with flaming heads; Napses who multiply; Piranha Plorps, basically poisonous Piranha Plants; Stonks, cloud things that spit puffs of gas; and memory versions of Mario and Luigi with basic oversimplified versions of some of their most stereotypical features like breaking blocks, throwing hammers, and Luigi being scared of ghosts.

Areas in the game are pretty much split between different sections of Bowser's body and locations outside. The outside world includes Toad Town and Peach's Castle, the Dimble Wood forest, Cavi Cape and Plack Beach (a beach area with a weird tooth theme), Bowser's Castle, Bumpsy Plain (a grassland), and Blubble Lake and the Tower of Yikk. The inside areas of Bowser's body are more or less just the various parts of his body, maybe with some funny names here and there. Some are full on levels. Others are just locations you go back to occasionally to accomplish something specific (like going to his groin in order to make him giant? (I guess that's literal big dick energy for you, I don't know)). Among these are his stomach, funny bone, arm, place where his fire breath comes from, his gut, nerve cluster, his rump, his flab, his leg, nose, joints, memory banks, lumbar, chest, and airway. Other than making me really question Bowser's biology, if a stage were to be made out of any of these, I would probably make a general Bowser's Insides level based on the whole of it (honestly, the most likely stage if a stage were ever based on this game)

Items are pretty much as you expect, with beans and mushrooms and stuff, and Star Cures to heal the Blorb virus, and blocks supplied by Broque Monsieur.
