Kersti

After Super Paper Mario, it seems as though Nintendo came down hard on the RPG series, apparently adverse to overcomplicating the Mario series and introducing all of these complex and unique characters. As a result, the Paper Mario series took a sharp left turn, away from deep and complex storytelling to simplistic games that leaned far more heavily on the “being made of paper” gimmick. This time, we see Bowser interrupt a festival celebrating a comet made of stickers, for some reason, accidentally causing the comet to explode and cover the land in stickers. Mario encounters a strange sticker being, an attendant of the comet, who demands he help her restore it.

This is Kersti, secretly the true spirit of the Sticker Star. She will act as Mario’s constant companion throughout the game, providing him with the sticker-based abilities that the game’s gimmick relies upon.

In the game, she will be quite light, being merely a sticker after all, but her physical body will have a slight sticky quality to it, making opponents who touch her stuck for a split second. Her moves will be based upon the entire Sticker Star game and incorporate every sticker-based ability Mario uses.

Likelihood rating: Probably not
