Mario RPG Adventure Mode

ADVENTURE MODE

Opening scene: We see the book titled Paper Mario. The book opens and a bunch of paper characters fly out. Mario, Luigi, and Peach (of the Mario & Luigi series) watch as their paper counterparts land beside them, greeting them. All around them, familiar paper faces pop up and are welcomed by M & L faces such as Prince Peasley and Prince Dreambert. The Star Spirits and the entire Merlon family step forward, pronouncing that they have used their magic to bring their two worlds together for just one day. The two Peaches proclaim a party, and everyone celebrates.

Prologue: Toad Town

This game will be similar to the above. It will stand as a solid Mario RPG in its own right, but will function as well as a Smash game. (My main thought is for you to be able to wander the world as an RPG, but the battles will be Smash battles). You start the level running around as Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, exploring the town and getting used to the controls. You get the chance to talk to a lot of the friends in attendance, buy stuff from Broque Monsieur’s shops, and get your first battle when Croco, Jr. Troopa, and Popple, having formed a new partnership, try to sneak into the royal treasury and make off with the Paper Mario book.

After that’s over with, a shadow falls over the town. Peach’s Castle is lifted from the ground by Bowser’s Sky Castle, and Bowser, Paper Bowser, and Kammy appear at the helm. Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi leap into action, their allies backing them up. Kammy fights you, but before you can move on to the Bowsers, the giant sword Exor falls from the sky and stabs through both Bowser’s Castle and Peach’s Castle, sending everyone flying.

Chapter One: Bowser’s Keep

Each chapter will take place in a given area. You will have one story companion who will join your party, but two more optional companions will be available to recruit if you’re willing to fulfill the requirements. Each chapter will likewise be followed by a pair of epilogues, one showing what’s happening with the Peaches and Bowsers, and one following Kammy Koopa.

Paper Mario, Mario, and Luigi wake up to find Toad Town deserted and all of their friends gone, Exor, Bowser’s Castle, and Peach’s Castle now forming a new edifice in the middle of town. The trio rush off into the castle to figure out what’s going on. The various members of the Smithy Gang, including his four generals and the five Axem Rangers, will appear throughout the chapter, and Smithy will appear at the end as the final boss, holding the Star Spirit Twink as his captive. As you enter the castle, you will stumble across a tiny Geno doll. A star will fall from heaven and possess the doll, revealing himself as Geno and joining your party, having sensed the Smithy gang’s presence and something being wrong with the Star Spirits. You will also be able to find Goombario and Goombella at different points inside the keep, both having managed not to get thrown like the others. They will join your party if you fulfill certain requirements.

In the first chapter epilogue, Peach, Paper Peach, Bowser, and Paper Bowser wake up in a strange dimension, surrounded by a number of familiar villainous faces who lock them up in a cell, each one taking one of the Star Spirits for themselves. In the second epilogue, Kammy Koopa wakes up in Booster’s Tower, finding that Booster has claimed her as his new wife. Determined to get back and find her master, she quickly subdues Booster in a battle and recruits him to help her on her quest.

Chapter Two: Beanbean Kingdom

Having freed Twink from Smithy’s control, the Star Spirit tells them that the attack was caused by an alliance between a number of past villains, all come for revenge against the Mario brothers. He doesn’t know where they all are, but he knows that one of them captured Eldstar and headed for the Beanbean Kingdom. The heroes and their companions travel there, only to find that Cackletta and Fawful have returned and taken over the kingdom. You find Prince Peasley transformed into a dragon again, and upon his defeat, he joins your party. Kooper and Koops have both also ended up there after the first attack, and will join you upon meeting certain conditions. Cackletta acts as the chapter’s final boss, but along the way to reach her, Mr. L will appear, having recruited Croco, Jr. Troopa, and Popple and claimed them as his minions. These four will recur throughout the story as rivals/minibosses. After Cackletta is defeated, Fawful will appear and vacuum up her remains, expressing his apologies to his mistress as he needs her for a secret plan.

In the first chapter epilogue, The Peaches and the Bowsers work together to sneak around the enemy palace and gain information on the next Star Spirit. Twink finds them and agrees to deliver messages from them to the heroes. In the second, Kammy and Booster end up in the Beanbean Kingdom and they recruit Rawk Hawk, who is there seeking a new venue to win his championship belt.

Chapter Three: Rogueport

Eldstar thanks the heroes for freeing him. As they head out, Twink appears and tells them that Mamar is being held in Rogueport by the X-Nauts. The heroes rush there, where they encounter Lord Crump making a mess of the place. Vivian is leading her sisters to subtly fight back against them, and she becomes your principal companion this time around after you work together to take him down. You will also encounter Lady Bow and Flurrie at different points and both can be recruited to your team. Sir Grodus will act as the final boss. After his defeat, he manages to escape destruction and make his way to the Shadow Queen’s tomb, only for Dimentio to show up, trap him in a box, and blow him up, taking the tomb for himself.

In the first epilogue, the Peaches and Bowsers figure out that the next star spirit is in Nimbus Land. In the second, Kammy and her crew arrive in Rogueport, stumbling across Doopliss, who attempts to steal Kammy’s identity. Kammy rages at him, chewing him out for several hours and putting Booster and Rawk Hawk both to sleep. After she is finished, she recruits Doopliss to her side.

Chapter Four: Nimbus Land

Mamar thanks the heroes. Twink appears, telling them where the next Star Spirit is. Geno perks up at the thought of seeing his old friend Mallow again. They quickly head there, only to find that the entire Kingdom has been conquered by the Shroobs, and Mallow and his parents have been turned to mushrooms. The heroes work to fight the Shroob forces, eventually freeing Mallow who joins them as a companion. You can also find Parakarry and Lakilester here as well. Princess Shroob acts as the main villain, and Mr. L’s crew challenges you again. Princess Shroob’s remains are collected by Fawful after her defeat.

In the first epilogue, The Peaches, Bowsers, and Twink receive a message from Merlon that he and his family await the heroes on Flipside, where the next Star is being held. Kammy and her crew arrive on Nimbus Land and Kammy gets into a catfight with Valentina, with Booster believing it’s a fight over him. Eventually Kammy wins the battle and recruits Valentina to her side as well.

Chapter Five: Flipside

Skolar thanks the heroes for their help and departs. Twink returns and tells them to go to Flipside. Merlon and his family are waiting there. After a short stint figuring out how to get there, they reunite with the Merlon family as well as Tippi and her fellow Pixls. Tippi tells them tearfully that late one night, her beloved Blumiere reverted back to his old evil self Count Bleck, transformed her back into a Pixl when she tried to stop him, and joined this league of evil. Tippi joins you as your main companion, but you can recruit Bombette and Bobbery to your side as well. Mimi and O’Chunks both appear and fight you at certain points, and you steadily pick up clues that things are not as they appear. When you fight Bleck in the final battle, he reveals that he had discovered Dimentio’s continued existence, and that he had joined the league of evil in order to work against Dimentio as Dimentio had once done him. He lets Muskular go free and allows them to depart. Once the heroes are gone, Dimentio appears, revealing he had suspected Bleck the whole time. Bleck and his minions try to fight back, but he snaps his fingers, traps them in boxes, and blows them all up. Mr. L and his crew jump in to try and stop him, but Dimentio simply snaps his fingers, waking up Mr. L’s mind control and placing Floro sprouts on the heads of his three companions.

In the first epilogue, Merlon informs the Peaches and Bowsers of what happened with Count Bleck and how Dimentio is behind it all. They try to warn the remaining villains, but Fawful mocks them and has them all locked up except for Bowser, convincing the others that they’re just trying to sew dissension between them. In the second epilogue, Kammy and her companions make it to Flipside, where they stumble across Francis, who calls Kammy an ugly old hag. Kammy goes off on him for another several hours, at which point Valentina steps in and Francis is immediately swayed by her beauty and agrees to join their team.

Chapter Six: Bowser’s Insides

Our heroes are thanked by Muskular, and Merlon tells them he can’t quite figure out where Misstar is. Fawful appears, lugging an unconscious Bowser along behind him. He states that the next star is right here and he’s perfectly happy to help them find it. He zaps Bowser with a ray that wakes him up and activates his super suction breath, sucking the heroes in and trapping them inside. While inside, they encounter Wisdurm, transformed into Durmite once again, and she joins as your principal companion. You can also encounter Sushie and the Baby Yoshi, both accidentally swallowed by Bowser at some point. Midbus appears and fights you several times, and the Dark Star acts as the final boss.

In the first epilogue, Peach, Paper Peach, and Paper Bowser work to try and figure out a way out of Fawful’s prison, when Bowser’s body is returned by Fawful stating he’s done with it. Count Bleck’s ally, Nastasia, appears through a secret door and helps them escape. In the second epilogue, Kammy and her companions wander around Flipside, Kammy swearing her divination had told her Bowser had just been here somewhere. They encounter the Best Fitness Friends in the spot where Bowser had been. They challenge them to a workout. After beating their challenge, Kammy orders them to lead them to where Bowser is.

Chapter Seven: Dreamy Pi’illo Island

After having been coughed up by Bowser, the heroes gather back in Merlon’s house as Misstar tells them Klevar has been trapped in the dream world. Mario & Luigi, knowing Prince Dreambert can help them access it, present the idea to travel to Pi’illo Island. Merlon helps them open a dimensional door that will take them right there and they step through. Dreambert greets them and agrees to help, joining as your principal companion. They put Luigi to sleep and enter his dreamworld, where Dreamy Luigi joins the fight. In this dreamworld, you can encounter Ms. Mowz, pulling off the greatest heist of her career, and the ghost of Bobby, made whole within the dream world. Both can join your party. Antasma acts as the final boss, and Dimentio shows up at one point and sics the now brainwashed Mr. L and his team on them.

In the first epilogue, Bowser wakes up to find himself being carried by his paper counterpart as his companions run through the villain’s castle, led by Nastasia. They go for quite a bit but eventually Dimentio shows up, trapping them all in Dimension D and blowing up Nastasia. A short boss battle ensues. In the second epilogue, Kammy and her team arrive on Pi’illo Island, figure Mount Pajamaja is where they need to go, and try to recruit the Massif Bros to lead them up. The Massif Bros are too focused on beefing up though, leading to Kammy lecturing them again for another several hours. The Massif Bros, impressed by her ability to rant that long, agree to guide them.

Chapter Eight: Origami Kingdom

Klevar thanks them for their help and everyone returns to Merlon’s house. Merlon then learns that Kalmar appears to be on an island out in the middle of the ocean. Paper Mario and Bobby both recognize the place as Olivia’s Origami Kingdom. The party travels to the island, but are immediately attacked by Origami soldiers, and most of the party, sans Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario, are captured and folded into brainwashed Origami soldiers. Olivia joins them and tells them that her brother has reverted back to his evil ways again. They fight their way through the kingdom, challenging and defeating each of their companions, releasing them from his control after every defeat. They also encounter Kersti and Huey, who can also join the party. Upon King Olly’s defeat, a Floro sprout pops off of his head, revealing Dimentio had been controlling him the whole time. Dimentio appears and takes his body away, laughing that his plans are now complete and there is nothing they can do about it.

In the first chapter epilogue, the Peaches and the Bowsers wake up in their cell once again as Fawful and Dimentio approach them. The villains reveal the entire alliance has been wiped out, but they have gathered each’s remains and sources of their power, which was their plan from the very start. They wished to combine the technology of Smithy, the magic of Cackletta, the essence of the Shadow Queen, the DNA of the Shroobs, the power of the Dark Star, some samples from the Dream World, and King Olly’s paper-folding skills to create an ultimate destroyer of worlds, controlled by the two of them. They just needed Peach’s and Bowser’s combined magic to act as the glue to bring it all together. Their mind-controlled minions tie the four up to their machine and begin the process. In the second epilogue, Kammy and her crew arrive in the Great Sea, where they encounter the pirate Jonathan Jones. After a brief battle, Jonathan Jones pledges to fight by her side as a token of his honor.

Chapter Nine: The Void

Kalmar joins the other Star Spirits. Together with their own memories and Merlon’s power, they reveal where Peach and Bowser are being held: an endless strange void between dimensions. Merlon can’t quite pin down a way to get in, but the description triggers a memory for Mario, Geno, and Mallow. A strange enemy they had once fought in a world just like that. Leaving Flipside and returning to the Mushroom Kingdom, they track down a random door on the side of a cliff and enter it, finding the being called Culex inside once more. After a harrowing battle wherein he takes them almost to their limit, they are saved at the last second by Count Bleck and his minions, joined by Sir Grodus and Lord Crump, who had been in on Bleck’s plan as well. They had expected Dimentio to kill them, so they had made contact with Queen Jaydes and Grambi and worked out a deal to return them to the world of the living, and had also made contact with Culex to guard the door. Culex had only agreed to help if they could best him in battle, which they had. They then all travel together and enter Fawful and Dimentio’s palace. Fighting their way through, you face battles with Kammy and her crew, and later by Mr. L and his crew. Defeating each will give both an option to join your side. Ultimately you reach the final battle, facing Fawful and Dimentio both on their own and rescue the princesses and Bowsers upon their defeat. Before you can escape however, the villains unveil their ultimate weapon and the true final boss battle. (imagine Dimentio’s super form at the end of Super Paper Mario but with Fawful’s face, probably with some elements of the various pieces they used to create it as well).

Upon their defeat, the sheer power of the mech collapses in on itself and starts sucking in the rest of the void with it. Fawful and Dimentio get sucked in, and the heroes have to race through one last level to get out and get away. They run through the door and escape, but Culex stays to hold off its power and make sure it doesn’t leak through.

Ending scene: A short time later, the Peaches host their party again, with the Bowsers helping plan it this time. Everyone gathers together and has a laugh about their adventures, Paper Luigi not remembering a thing that happened the whole game, much to Croco, Jr. Troopa, and Popple’s confusion. Merlon arrives and opens a portal, telling them a similar party is happening in another world much like theirs, if they’d all be interested in joining that one.
