Working your way through this new Mario adventure, you will have encountered many familiar faces from previous games and you will have taken them out with your arsenal of new abilities. Then you come to a fortress smack-dab in the middle of the first world. Inside, you find the grisly sight of skeletal, undead Koopa Troopas. When you jump on top of them, they don’t tuck into their shells like regular Koopas. Instead they fall apart before rising back to life mere seconds later.
These are the Dry Bones, a new breed of Koopa Troopa with a more sinister bent. Since their introduction, their popularity has skyrocketed, earning them playable appearance across multitudes of sports games, all starting with Mario Kart DS. Although mostly similar in ability to Koopas, their creepy resilience and tendency to throw their own bones keep them just unique enough to warrant their own slot.
In game, they will be a bit heavier and slower than regular Koopas, with even higher defense than they already had. As an echo fighter of the Koopa Troopa, their moves will mostly mirror those, but with a bonier bent, including its own unique bone toss move.
