Bowser

The player has now worked their way through the first four levels of 1983’s Super Mario Bros. They have faced walking mushrooms, flying turtles, and man-eating plants, and have finally made it to the castle. They fight their way through spinning bars of fire and pits of lava, finally reaching the end to come face to face with a large turtle with horns and a spiky shell, jumping and breathing fire over a destructible bridge.

This is Bowser, the king of the Koopas and Mario’s perennial villain. Known as King Koopa outside of the west, Bowser is obsessed with kidnapping Princess Peach, either for political power over the Mushroom Kingdom, or even for his own infatuation with the princess. He has battled Mario time and time again, across hundreds of settings, ultimately losing every single time.

As a player, he is heavy and powerful, probably one of the heaviest in the game, with brutal attacks coming at the cost of speed. His moves pull from all over his games and every boss battle he has been a part of, including fire breath, butt bashes, the throwing of giant boulders, and even growing to gigantic proportions.
