Animal Buddies

ANIMAL BUDDIES

About halfway through the first level, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong will come across a friendly rhino that they can hop on the back of and ride as he charges across the level, taking out enemies with his horn.

This is Rambi, the first of the Kong crew's many animals across their games, each of which can help the Kongs do things they couldn't otherwise. The most notable of these include: Enguarde the Swordfish, Expresso the Ostrich, Squawks the Parrot, Squitter the Spider, Ellie the Elephant, and Hoofer the Wildebeest.

As fighters, these buddies will move as a group, with three out at all times and the rest appearing for specific moves. Their moveset will pull from all of their combined special abilities across the franchise.

Likelihood rating: Could happen.

Second Chance: Animal Buddies

ANIMAL BUDDIES

The animal buddies were frustrating to me back when I was originally doing this series. Between them all, you had more than enough to build a moveset, but they were divided between a bunch of individuals with a single move or so each. And it wasn't like they had similar builds and body types like the Koopalings so that you could fudge it a little and make them color swaps. So I ultimately passed them over.

But, a few months back, I got an idea. A really great idea. What if the buddies fought as a bundle? Say, you had one of the big ones, like Rambi or Ellie, as the center, with a couple of the smaller ones around them at all times, moving as a unit, and every move brought out another one. A little unorthodox, but it could work.

So, for our options, we have Rambi the Rhino, who charges really fast; Expresso the Ostrich, who can glide across large gaps; Enguarde the Swordfish, who can swim and stab enemies; Winky the Frog, who can bounce high; Squawks the Parrot, who can pick up and fly the Kongs around; Rattly the Rattlesnake, who acts as a spring; Squitter the Spider, who can shoot webs to act as platforms; Glimmer the Angler Fish, who acts as a light; Clapper the Seal, who can freeze water solid; Quawks the Parrot, similar to Squawks; Ellie the Elephant, who can suck up water and squirt it; Parry the Bird; the Lightfish, similar to Glimmer; the Helper Monkeys; Hoofer the Wildebeest, similar to Rambi; Flurl the Squirrel, who acts as a parachute; Orco the Orca, similar to Enguarde; the Helibird; and Tawks.

My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Squitter

The spider will emerge and spit webs forward, that will either act as projectiles or simply turn into temporary platforms if they don't hit anything.

Side B: Enguarde

The animals will bring out Enguarde and lunge forward, stabbing him through opponents like a sword.

Up B: Squawks

Squawks will appear and carry the group up and up above the stage. Rattly could work too, or other bouncy types.

Down B: Clapper

The seal will appear and breathe a gust of cold air to freeze opponents nearby.

Final Smash: Rampage

All the animals will emerge, with Rambi, Ellie, and Hoofer at their lead, and will charge across the stage at breakneck speed.

Entrance: They will burst from a barrel.

Taunts: Up, Quawks will fly up and hold out a flashlight for a second. Side, Expresso will come out and stretch his legs for a moment. Down, Enguarde will dive below the stage than leap back up.

Kirby Hat: So, imagine one of those tall hats, but with all the buddies' faces on it.

Kart: Rambi, with them all on the back.

Special Move: Squitter will spray webs forward, creating a new track for the players to take a shortcut with.

Spirit Battle: A horde battle on Kongo Jungle.

Victory Screen: The animals will all cheer and pose together.

Losing Screen: They will be hypnotized and set to labor.

Color Swaps: Rambi with Squawks and Enguarde, Rambi with Quawks and Rattly, Rambi with Winky and Expresso; Ellie with Parry and Squitter; Ellie with Squawks and Clapper; Ellie with Quawks and Glimmer; Hoofer with Flurl and Orco; Hoofer with the Helibird and the Lightfish.

Thanks for reading! Next up, maybe an echo? I'm not sure, exactly. Might leave it up to a poll.

Iggy & Spike

IGGY & SPIKE

As the Mario brothers get to work, the scene focuses in on a couple of strangely dressed goons staked out in a car, pointing at various women and asking each other if she might be the one.

These two are Iggy and Spike, the henchmen of the movie's villain President Koopa, not to be confused with similar villains of the same name from the games. They were sent to Manhattan to find the Princess Daisy, but not knowing what she looks like, they end up bringing back a bunch of other random women in the process.

As fighters, the two cousins will be color swaps of each other, Iggy going first. They will be big and dumb but not quite as strong as they could be, mostly flailing about cluelessly in many of their attacks. Their moveset will pull from their shown abilities in the movie, as well as a few elements around them.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: Iggy and Spike

IGGY & SPIKE

And now, let's cover the two idiot henchmen of the original Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993, Iggy and Spike, not to be confused with the Koopaling, enemy, or foreman of the same names. Iggy and Spike are the cousins of President Koopa, sent to the real world to kidnap Daisy who end up kidnapping a bunch of women because they don't know what she looks like. I'm mostly covering them because it feels weird for them to be so plot relevant and not on the roster.

So, let's see. In the beginning, they grab a bunch of women, carrying them all the way down to the portal and up to Koopa's Tower. I remember them attacking someone with plumbing equipment early on. And then at some point, they are inexplicably driving a vehicle through the desert. That's some. Then again, come to think of it, I see no reason that they can't use things like the devo-ray or bounce on the fungus. Those are pretty standardly connected to them in at least a small way. You know what?

My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Devo-Ray

Just like their cousin and the Goomba henchmen, they will fire the Devo-Ray as a beam at opponents, slowing them down a bit and making them sluggish.

Side B: Grab and Dash

The cousin will rush forward, smack a player on their head, and dash off with them over their shoulder in the opposite direction.

Up B: Fungus

They will be bounced high into the air by some fungus from the movie.

Down B: Desert Buggy

Their little car from the movie will appear around them and it will drive forward, smacking into players.

Final Smash: Devolution

This will function in basically the same was as President Koopa's.

Entrance: They will emerge from the portal.

Taunts: Up, they will hold up a random woman from the movie and gesture as if asking if they got it right. Side, they will do the head-back-and-forth thing from the movie. Down, they will hold up their copy of Super Koopa Cousins proudly.

Kirby Hat: Their unique hairstyles.

Kart: Their desert buggy from the movie.

Special Move: They will become "smarter," allowing a Level 10 CPU to take over and drive for them for a while.

Spirit Battle: Both color swaps on Dinohattan.

Victory Screen: They will shake hands with some game developers.

Losing Screen: They will be bound up back-to-back.

Color Swaps: Iggy, Spike, Iggy with Iggy's green colors, Spike with the foreman's original colors, Iggy with Iggy/Lemmy's rainbow colors, Spike with the enemy's colors, Iggy with Larry's blue colors, Spike with the foreman's '94 colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, something I've got a really good idea for and am actually really excited about.

King Windbag

KING WINDBAG

Another episode saw Luigi traveling to a neighboring kingdom to check on the local king after hearing reports of him being a bully. Upon arrival, he finds said king in the middle of throwing dishes at his servant for serving him the wrong kind of meat.

This is King Windbag. As Luigi is trying to discuss the matter with him, the Koopalings Hip and Hop break in, steal the king's wand, and turn both he and Luigi into dogs, making him Luigi's companion for the episode as they strive to get the wand back and return to their old selves.

As a fighter, King Windbag will be loud and brash, using his strength to push players around, but gaining a speed boost whenever a move shifts him into a dog. His moveset will pull from his abilities shown throughout the episode.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: King Windbag

KING WINDBAG

Today, let's go over King Windbag from the "Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3" episode "Life's Ruff." He is a king that Luigi goes to check up on because Princess Toadstool has been receiving multiple complaints of him being a bully to his subjects. As he and Luigi are arguing, Hip and Hop break in, steal the king's wand, and turn them both into dogs. Luigi and Windbag are then forced to chase Hip and Hop back to the real world, where Windbag experiences what it's like to be "treated like a dog."

At the beginning of the episode, we see Windbag throw plates of food because he was served the wrong meat and cast spells to zap his subjects for his own enjoyment. His wand is also the dog-transforming perpetrator, so there's that. After they are transformed, he and Luigi convince other dogs to form a pyramid to escape, dug a tunnel under a fence, and grab a rope and run around a person really fast to tie them up. After he is changed back, he uses his wand to open a portal back to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Yeah, there's enough here. I don't know what I was missing. My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Duck

He will toss a plate of roast duck forward as a projectile, shouting "DUCK!" really loudly as he does so.

Side B: Bind

He will transform into his dog form and rush an opponent, running around them really fast and tying them up with a rope.

Up B: Dogpile

A group of dogs will form a pyramid that he will bound up.

Down B: Dig

Maybe it helps that Multiversus has since debuted Bugs Bunny, who showed how a digging move can be viable. Basically, he will dig underground and come up in a new location.

Final Smash: Dog Transformation

He will raise his staff into the air and cast a dog transformation spell. I figure we can get a little creative with the dog breeds of every character, or just do a random selection of breeds. They will remain that way, unable to fight, for a short time.

Entrance: He will drop out of a pipe in the sky.

Taunts: Up, he will wave his wand and make sparkles appear. Side, he will hold up a plate of turkey and lick his lips. Down, he will become a dog, turn around three times, and lay down.

Kirby Hat: His crown and hair.

Kart: A kart based on his dog form.

Special Move: He will turn into a dog and automatically chase the next car up, keeping a constant pace with them.

Spirit Battle: He and TV Luigi on the Doomship.

Victory Screen: He will present the losers with a turkey dinner.

Losing Screen: He will be caught by the episode's dogcatcher and end up tossed in a kennel.

Color Swaps: His own appearance, color schemes based on the seven kings from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Thanks for reading! Next up, the henchmen from the original Super Mario Bros. movie.

Second Chance: Wooster/The Nintendo Comics System Toads

WOOSTER

Well, I had to check anyway. But there's really nothing here. Wooster appears in the Nintendo Comics System as the Mushroom King's advisor (basically babysitter), whose one notable appearance happens when he is fired, "defects" to King Koopa, and handicaps them from the inside by feeding them so much food that they become fat. While the food steadily slowing down an opponent makes for a good move on its own, it's really just that.

On the other hand, I also wanted to use this space to go over what the Nintendo Comics System calls Toads, where instead of humanoid bodies, their bodies are basically stems, with faces and limbs. It has proven weirdly difficult to search for them properly, but even when I managed it, there wasn't much. They just populate group shots basically. Might make for a good Toad echo, if Toad, Captain Toad, Toadette, and Toadsworth weren't already a convoluted echo system. But, I guess we could add one of the Toads as a color swap (I think we were short a good one anyway), and Wooster could be a named color swap for Toadsworth.

I'm satisfied with that. So, my answer is . . .

NO

Thanks for reading! Next up, a king who learns some humility.

Second Chance: Zoltan Dracula

ZOLTAN DRACULA

Zoltan Dracula is a character who appears twice (maybe?) in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show live action segments with Lou Albano and Danny Wells. He's played by Jim Ward, who I know best as the voice of Doug Dimmadome, Owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome! In the first episode, he is a foreign exchange student from Transylvania who the brothers believe (correctly) is a vampire. In the second, he is possibly a different identical vampire pretending to be an exterminator brought in to exterminate a bat. He is also said bat. In the episodes, he transforms into a bat, summons lightning with a shout, and is at least implied to drink blood. Not much there, but I wanted to go over him one last time just to be sure.

So, my answer is . . .

NO

Thanks for reading! Tomorrow, we cover an original character, and species, to the comics.

Plumbinator

PLUMBINATOR

In order to stop Robo Koopa's rampage throughout Robo Land, Mario, Luigi, Bunsen, and Dr. Nerdnik come up with a brilliant idea: to fight fire with fire.

The result of this idea is the Plumbinator, a giant mech piloted by both Mario and Luigi that puts them on even footing with Robo Koopa. Armed with a flyswatter, plungers for arms, rocket boosters, and eggs as projectiles, the brothers use the Plumbinator to take on their fearsome foe.

As a fighter, the Plumbinator will be big and strong, with a fair amount of speed. It will be a semi-clone of Bunsen, pulling from much the same movepool as she does, with a few minor differences being things more specific to the Plumbinator itself.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: Plumbinator

PLUMBINATOR

My answer is . . .

YES

I don't know why I said no before. Like, obviously, Bunsen and the Plumbinator can take on the same moveset. It's not like she had an echo. On the other hand, it would have worked fine as a Robo Koopa echo too. I'm dumb, okay. I'm dumb.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Eggs

Could stick with the drill, but throwing eggs as a projectile is more directly connected to the Plumbinator.

Side B: Extend-o-Arm

Not something it was shown to have, but it did have those plunger arms, which could make it distinct from Bunsen.

Up B: Rockets

Same as Bunsen and Robo Koopa.

Down B: Flyswatter

Naturally.

Final Smash: Robo Battle

Plumbinator and Robo Koopa will grow gigantic and battle across the stage, doing lots of damage in the process.

Entrance: Mario and Luigi will power up into it.

Taunts: Up, Mario and Luigi will raise their plungers into the air. Side, they will stumble back and forth, Luigi losing his balance. Down, Luigi will produce a pair of scissors and snip them.

Kirby Hat: Mario's head gear.

Kart: Basically a two-seater car based on the armor.

Special Move: The car will break apart and be able to drive separately, with Mario and Luigi driving each.

Spirit Battle: A giant battle on Wily Castle, with Bunsen.

Victory Screen: The two brothers will stand triumphant over Robo Koopa's parts.

Losing Screen: Mario and Luigi will sit up from rubble matching their suit's rubble in the cartoon.

Color Swaps: The standard appearance, Mario's colors swapped for Luigi's colors, Peach's colors, Daisy's colors, Wario's colors, Waluigi's colors, Donkey Kong's colors, and Bowser's colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up is a twice-appearing character from the live action segments.

Second Chance: Old Gray Wolf

OLD GRAY WOLF

Well, this one's frustrating. I could have sworn the character was a lot more involved in the plot than he was. Old Gray Wolf is basically the Big Bad Wolf of Little Red Riding Hood, who sees Princess Toadstool going to visit her grandmother and sneaks into the grandmother's house only to find King Koopa already there, pulling the same scheme. He's then tied up and disappears until the end when he gives Mario, Luigi, and Toad extra wolf skins and helps scare Koopa off. Not anywhere near the potential we need. Not even much gimmick stuff to go on. There's snowmobiles, snow, and ice at points. That's really it.

So, my answer is . . .

NO

Weird we've been on a streak, apparently, especially after going so long with constant YES's. I guess if it was going to be any, it was going to be these multimedia guys. However, I know the streak's about to end because next up is a character that had no reason not to be at least an echo.

Second Chance: King James

KING JAMES

So, in theory this character would be an echo of the Flab Boys, being their boss and king of Rap Land (which is totally where Music Park and Electrodrome are located, by the way). The trouble is, part of the Flab Boys' moveset is tied to their body type, with them being able to bounce and roll around. Obviously, King James can't do that, so I guess this is more of an exercise in "If we remove the bouncing and rolling," is there enough to make a moveset out of. So, both James and his boys throw records as projectiles, King Koopa uses music to hypnotize people, and there's a big plug full of electricity. Outside of that, nothing really.

So, I guess my answer is . . .

NO

Guess the bouncing and rolling did contribute a lot. Oh, well. Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover the Old Gray Wolf from a Little Red Riding Hood-based adventure.

Thursday, April 20, 2023

Second Chance: Hooded Robin

HOODED ROBIN

This one's kinda frustrating, because he's definitely one of the more active episode companions from the series, fighting right alongside the heroes for most of it, but on paper, he doesn't offer up much. He flies, and he shoots arrows (or plungers, as the case may be), and that's really it. He can change his voice, but that doesn't help much. From there, a lot of the other episode-specific stuff was way more tied to Mario and Princess Toadstool, so that was really no help.

So, I guess my answer is . . .

NO

Sorry, birdman. I guess you've got to stick to being an assist trophy. Next up, another supporting character from the same episode as the Flab Boys.

Wednesday, April 19, 2023

Second Chance: Herlock Solmes

HERLOCK SOLMES

Next up, we have Herlock Solmes, a knockoff of Sherlock Holmes from an episode based on those stories. I couldn't quite remember the character, so I added him to do due diligence. And, he really didn't do anything the whole episode. Mario used his magnifying glass to follow King Koopa's tracks, and there was a "Kitty of the Caskervilles" that appeared in the last couple of minutes, but beyond that, Herlock was tied up most of the episodes. There's not even very much "gimmick rep" stuff to pull from. He did at least roast King Koopa pretty hard verbally, but that's it.

So, my answer is . . .

NO

Seriously though, do you know how nice it is to hand one of those out? Especially after all the extra work I put in yesterday. Bless you, Sherlock knockoff. I'm going to go enjoy my evening free.

Tomorrow, let's do a knockoff of Robin Hood instead.

King Neptune

KING NEPTUNE

After rescuing the Mermushroom, she tells them that Barra-Koopa invaded her kingdom and captured their king. We then cut to a scene in Aqua Land's capitol, where Koopa is holding said king hostage.

This is King Neptune, named so after the Roman god of the sea, a name that tends to recur in a lot of various underwater-based media. This version is more of a chill hippie-type, spout phrases like "chill" and "go with the flow" whenever Koopa threatens him.

As a fighter, he and Mermushroom will be echoes of each other, Neptune likely being much more powerful but slower than Mermushroom. His moves will pull from the same movepool as hers.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Mermushroom

MERMUSHROOM

In yet another episode, Mario and the team travel to the undersea kingdom of Aqua Land, which had been attacked by "Barra-Koopa." On their way, they encounter a strange mermaid with a mushroom on her head, being pursued by a squad of Bloopers.

This is a Mermushroom, one of the citizens of Aqua Land. This one in particular, though never given a name, would become Mario and his team's companion throughout the rest of the episode's adventure, helping them rescue King Neptune and oust Barra-Koopa.

As a fighter, she will be like most aquatic characters, swimming through the air as if underwater. She will be fast and slippery, and her moveset will come from most of the aspects of the undersea world around her.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: Mermushroom

MERMUSHROOM

In the episode "Mario of the Deep," Mario and his companions travel underwater only to discover that "Barra-Koopa" has taken over all of Aqua Land and enslaved the people, the mermaid-like Mermushrooms, one of which encounters the heroes and becomes their companion for most of the episode. Now, in my prior watch, she ended up getting a pass because, well, she didn't do much outside of swim beside them, but I can at least give her a second look for gimmick rep status. Elements of the Aqua Land setting around Mermushroom include swordfish used as swords and then thrown to pursue an opponent, sea horses ridden, tridents wielded by Koopa's minions and used against them, a giant whale controlled by King Neptune, and a net used to catch the heroes.

You know, I've done more with less. Let's do it. My answer is . . .

YES

And, while I'm at it, there's no reason King Neptune can't be an echo (though I won't make a second "Second Chance" sheet). Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Trident

The Mermushroom will thrust forward with a trident, stabbing with three points of damage. King Neptune's will hit harder.

Side B: Swordfish

She will throw out a swordfish. It will mostly act as a straightforward projectile, unless it doesn't hit anything by a certain point, at which period it will start swimming around until it strikes someone.

Up B: Swim Up

An easy one for any aquatic character, Mermushroom and King Neptune will both swim straight up with bubbles streaming behind, Mermushroom's being quicker.

Down B: Net

She will toss out a net, trapping characters underneath it just like catching a fish.

Final Smash: Neptune's Whale

Neptune's great whale will swim across the stage and fling its tail forward, smacking characters and sending them flying. It will remain the same for both.

Entrance: Both will emerge from an undersea cave.

Taunts: MER: Up, She will spin upward as fish surround her. Side, she will swim around it a circle happily. Down, she will cower behind coral. NEP: For all three, he will spout one of his "Hey, be cool, man" lines from when Koopa was threatening him,

Kirby Hat: MER: Her mushroom head. NEP: His crown.

Kart: MER: A kart based on herself. NEP: A kart based on his whale.

Special Move: MER: She will toss forward a swordfish that will act as a homing missile. NEP: His whale will slam into the stage in front of him.

Spirit Battle: MER: A horde battle, on Cheep Cheep Lagoon. NEP: on Cheep Cheep Lagoon, with a horde of Mermushrooms.

Victory Screen: MER: She will swim upward and perform a trick. NEP: He will kick back in his throne and chill.

Losing Screen: MER: She will be caught under a net and dragged away. NEP: He will be locked up in a tower.

Color Swaps: MER: The base level one, then seven based on other Mermushrooms seen throughout the episode. NEP: His standard appearance, then a few based on other versions of King Neptune (or Triton) in other media (Little Mermaid, Spongebob, etc.)

Thanks for reading! Next up, a knockoff of Sherlock Holmes!

Queen Rotunda

QUEEN ROTUNDA

In one episode, Mario and his team head into Rotundaland, where they stop and pick some peppers growing wild. They are immediately caught and arrested, under the charge that every single thing that exists in the kingdom belongs to its queen.

Said queen is Queen Rotunda, a tyrannical ruler in the middle of a scheme to drug a local prince with a love potion and force him to marry her. Shenanigans ensue, and Rotunda ends up downing the potion herself, falling madly in love with Mario and forcing him to marry her instead.

As a fighter, Rotunda will be basically all brute strength with little in the way of defense. Her moveset will pull from her own demonstrated abilities, her love potion, and aspects of her kingdom around her.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: Queen Rotunda

QUEEN ROTUNDA

Another one-off character of note that ended up being skipped was Queen Rotunda, the queen of Rotundaland, and one of the few non-King Koopa related villains. (In fact, King Koopa never appeared in the episode). She was a fascist tyrant over her people, whose personal mage Hildy had cooked up a love potion to force a neighboring prince to marry her, only for her to accidentally drink it herself and fall in love with Mario.

In the first watch-through, she mostly just strongarms her way into getting what she wants, with just physical grabs and things, with the love potion added on top, but on closer inspection, there are a few things we can use. First up, the party is first brought before her for stealing peppers that were growing wild, by her knights who wield javelins throughout the episode. There's a couple of times she throws food at people, and at one point she eats some hot pepper ice cream and literally floats off the ground from the heat. I think I can do things with that.

My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Javelin

She will throw a javelin used by her guards as a projectile, pinning them to a wall if set up just right.

Side B: Forced Kiss

She will reach out and grab with her strong arms and plant a strong kiss on her opponent, sapping them of health.

Up B: Hot Pepper Ice Cream

She will steam from an excess of heat and float up off of the ground a little, though she won't get much height.

Down B: Love Potion

She will toss out a love potion, striking an opponent and stunning them while hearts surround their head.

Final Smash: Guards!

She will call for her guards and a swarm of Beezos in knight armor will swoop in, snag the players with their javelins and carry them away.

Entrance: She will admire herself in the mirror then put it away.

Taunts: Up, he will admire a picture of Prince Pompadour with hearts in her eyes. Side, she will take a lick of cake frosting and look disgusted. Down, Hildy will appear and hold up a new bottle of love potion for her.

Kirby Hat: Her crown and bun.

Kart: A padded car based on her castle.

Special Move: She will toss out a love potion that will force the player to slow down and stay behind her.

Spirit Battle: Herself, on Pasta Land.

Victory Screen: Prince Pompadour will hug her with hearts in his eyes as she tosses away the potion.

Losing Screen: She will get tossed into her own dungeon by her guards.

Color Swaps: Herself, a look based on Prince Pompadour, a look based on Hildy, a look based on her knights, a look based on Mario, a look based on Luigi, a look based on Peach, and a look based on Queen Elizabeth.

Thanks for reading! Next up, a mermaid ally from one episode.

Mark Twang

MARK TWANG

Another episode took the brothers and their friends to River World, based heavily on the old stories of Mark Twain. While there, Princess Toadstool was taken captive by the now Captain Koopa, who was holding her aboard his steamboat. After one unsuccessful rescue attempt, Mario and Luigi found themselves pulled out of the water by the friendly captain of another steamboat.

This is Mark Twang, an obvious reference to the famous author himself, and captain of the Ding Bell. He had been competing with Koopa for control of the river, only for Koopa's minions to sabotage his engine room. Thanks to the Mario brothers' plumbing skills, he was able to get back into the race and help the brothers rescue their princess.

As a fighter, Mark won't be particularly active, using tech and machinery from his boat to make up the majority of his moveset. He will have a decent speed stat though.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: Mark Twang

MARK TWANG

Today, we come to the one-off episode characters from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, generally the major characters from single episodes that I initially passed on for various reasons, but I'm giving them one more shot. First on the docket is Mark Twang, a steamboat captain from the episode "Rolling Down the River" which, if you hadn't guessed, is structured around steamboats and stories featuring them. Twang helps the Mario brothers when they get tossed from King Koopa's boat, and they then use his boat to race Koopa for control of the river.

I initially passed on Twang, because he's mostly just steering the boat and is fairly limited to said boat. However, there are things we can pull from it. At one point he uses a lasso to reel the brothers in, and later, the brothers use an onboard cannon to fire a plunger tied to a rope. Said cannon is later used to fire turnips at Koopa. In general, his boat gives off a lot of hot steam, especially from the broken pipes that the brothers fix. Finally, I noticed one point when Mario and Luigi were bouncing up and down on the ship's mechanisms that turn the paddlewheel to make it go faster, and then springboard off of them onto Koopa's ship. And with that, I think we managed just enough.

My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Turnip Cannon

He will load his cannon with turnips and fire them forward as medium-damage projectiles.

Side B: Lasso

He will swing out his lasso and snag an opponent, reeling them in closer.

Up B: Wheel Mechanism

Just like the brothers, he will use the mechanisms from his boat to springboard himself up into the air and across large distances.

Down B: Steam

He will bring up a broken pipe in self-defense, which will spray a blast of steam forward, dealing burn damage to anyone hit.

Final Smash: The Ding Bell

His steamboat, the Dingbell, will run aground, powering across the stage and smacking into anyone in its way. It can be used as a temporary platform while it crosses.

Entrance: He will be steering, notice the fight, and stop.

Taunts: Up, he will pull the boat's horn. Side, he will plug his ears as the Mouth of the River talks to him. Down, he will look over a busted pipe.

Kirby Hat: His hat

Kart: A small version of the Ding Bell.

Special Move: He will release a bunch of steam to cloud the track.

Spirit Battle: Himself, on a steamboat stage (Possibly from Princess and the Frog or something).

Victory Screen: He will spitshine his boat and look proud.

Losing Screen: His boat will be sucked in the pit made by Koopa's bomb.

Color Swaps: Himself, a more standard Mark Twain look, a black suit, a red-and-white striped Colonel Sanders suit, a suit based on Tom Sawyer, a suit based on Huck Finn, a yellow suit, and a green suit.

Thanks for reading! Next up, a one-off villain named Queen Rotunda.

Trixie

TRIXIE

Seated in the van behind Barney Todd is his personal animal trainer, the Pauline to his Mario.

This is Trixie. She works for Barney and initially helps him in capturing Donkey Kong to exploit in his circus, and helps train him for his act. After she expresses concern over the dangerous and inhumane trick Barney wants Donkey Kong to perform, she is fired and teams up with Mario and Pauline to save the big ape.

As a fighter, she will be an echo of Barney Todd, though smaller and faster, with a lot less sharpness and cruelty behind her moves. Her moveset will pull from all aspects of Barney's circus, just like her boss.

Likelihood rating: Non-game.

Second Chance: Trixie

TRIXIE

Now, let's move on to the Multimedia Roster, for a character who I not only forgot the name of, but also her job. I listed her as a clown working for Barney Todd in the Saturday Supercade episode "Circus Daze," but apparently she was an animal trainer. Either way, she was, in a sense, Barney's Pauline, helping him track down and capture Donkey Kong, only to empathize with the big ape being forced to perform a cruel trick and join forces with Mario and Pauline to rescue him. I initially only went with Barney, as my thought process was "Who best represents the episode?" when I could easily have made them both echoes.

So, my answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset based on Barney's:

Standard B: Whip and Chair

Probably a bit more gentle with it, but she still knows how to handle it.

Side B: Juggling Act

Possibly a little clumsier with it.

Up B: Trampoline and Trapeze

She probably jumps higher and can perform it better.

Down B: Hoop

More or less the same.

Final Smash: Breakout

She will personally set them all free.

Entrance: She will appear on the ringmaster's stand.

Taunts: Up, she will make an elephant stand on its back legs. Side, she pet one of her animals. Down, she will shake her head and sit down.

Kirby Hat: Her hairdo

Kart: Based on the van driven by Barney Todd.

Special Move: She will release an elephant to rampage ahead of her.

Spirit Battle: On Fire Escape, with Barney Todd.

Victory Screen: She will hold her arms up as a lion roars behind her.

Losing Screen: The trapeze stand will break under her and she will fall.

Color Swaps: Her normal outfit, an outfit based on Barney, an outfit based on the Strongman, an outfit based on Donkey Kong, an outfit based on Pauline's nurse outfit in the episode, an outfit based on Pauline's clown outfit in the episode, a lion-themed outfit, an elephant-themed outfit.

Elder Princess Shroob

ELDER PRINCESS SHROOB

Princess Shroob defeated, Mario and Luigi reunite with Princess Peach and reform the Cobalt Star, just in time for Peach to warn them not to, as the reason it had been separated was because she had trapped the Shroob's true leader inside it. Said true leader would emerge from the newly formed star and begin her own reign of terror.

This is Elder Princess Shroob, the elder sister of Princess Shroob, who had attacked Princess Peach on her journey back through time and as a result ended up in the Cobalt Star. Her younger sister had since been on the warpath, seeking vengeance for her sister and power for herself.

As a fighter, Elder Princess Shroob is much bigger and stronger than her sister, with moves that are more physical and feral rather than relying on technology, pulling from her major boss fight at the end of the game.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Second Chance: Elder Princess Shroob

ELDER PRINCESS SHROOB

This one's a tricky one. Elder Princess Shroob is the older sister of Princess Shroob, and the true final villain of the game revealed after her sister is defeated, and honestly, she feels like she exists purely because the game developers wanted a last minute twist. So I mostly skipped her over, and just melded her in with her sister, but in the interest of fairness, I went back over both of their major battles and paid specific attention to their differences.

There's actually quite a bit. For one, Princess Shroob is smaller and much more reliant on technology. She rides around on a hover chair for her battles, one that can grow spider-legs and project a shield around itself. When off the hover chair, she can teleport and summon energy balls to throw at fighters. Obviously, there's more than enough to work with on just that alone.

On the other hand, Elder Princess Shroob is much more of a brute force kind of girl. She fires energy blasts, but from her mouth, uses tech only in a primitive capacity, like riding on top of two saucers to get higher and shooting saucers out of the sky to crash down on her enemies, and she attacks with tentacles that she lashes out and strikes her enemies with. She can also cough out a cloud of noxious gas and create shockwaves when landing on the ground.

So, although the characters don't really feel all that different, they're distinct enough for our purposes. My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Gas Cloud

She will cough out her cloud of noxious gas which will envelop those that pass through it and poison them.

Side B: Tentacles

She will extend her tentacles outward and spin them in a circle, damaging any that happen to be in their range.

Up B: Flying Saucers

She will ride on top of a pair of flying saucers before hopping down with a large shockwave.

Down B: Energy Blast

She will charge up a blast of energy in her mouth and spit it out directly in front of her.

Final Smash: Kamikaze Saucers

A fleet of saucers will appear in the sky above the stage. The princess will spit an energy disc into the sky, which will ricochet off the saucers and cause them to come crashing down explosively onto the stage.

Entrance: She will break out of the Cobalt Star.

Taunts: Up, she will laugh evilly while waving her tentacles. Side, she will extend her tentacles a bit and relax. Down, she will cough up a little bit of poison.

Kirby Hat: Her big mushroom head and crown.

Kart: A pair of Shroob saucers under her feet.

Special Move: She will fire an energy disc into the air, causing saucers to drop from the sky.

Spirit Battle: Princess Shroob on Shroob Mothership, followed by a giant battle with Elder Princess Shroob.

Victory Screen: She and her sister will laugh over a barren wasteland of mushrooms.

Losing Screen: She will pound on the inside of the Cobalt Star as it spins away.

Color Swaps: I believe we had four for her from her sister's list, so take those four, plus a black dress, a white dress, a green dress, and a dress more accurately based on Queen Elizabeth I.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we move on to the Multimedia characters.

The Shadow Queen

THE SHADOW QUEEN

After much trial and adventure, Mario and his friends find the crystal stars and open the Thousand-Year Door to uncover the truth of the X-Nauts' schemes: to awaken an ancient apocalyptic evil that had been sealed behind the door centuries before, and that the heroes had been duped into releasing.

This is the Shadow Queen, the ancient ruler of the Shadow Sirens, and possibly one of the darkest villains in the entire Mario franchise. She is cruel, cold, and menacing, willing to vaporize the person who set her free for talking back to her and capable of dragging innocent audience members down to . . . let's call it the Underwhere.

As a fighter, she will be very similar in style and ability as the sirens themselves, albeit with much more raw power at her disposal and probably a bit less mobility. Her moveset will pull from her boss battle and the events that happen around her.

Likelihood rating: Could happen.

Second Chance: Shadow Queen

SHADOW QUEEN

Yet another instance of me telling myself "No, the Shadow Sirens can cover most of it, the queen should just be an extension of that," just like the bees, just like the X-Nauts. What can I say? I'm a dunderhead, and I apparently need a year of hindsight to figure that out.

Like the X-Nauts, I'm not even sure the queen needs to borrow from the Sirens' moveset for this the way they did from her. Across her battle we see her deal damage just by . . . glaring?, slap with her disembodied hands, drain energy with those same hands, cause a thousand shadowy hands to rise from the floor and attack, draw in a bunch of energy and release it in a dark wave, send her shadowy hands to drag the audience to the shadow realm, and cause a veil of darkness to fall over the world. She also vaporizes Sir Grodus's body with a lightning blast, so there's that too. Also, when she rises from the dead, she appears inside of a cyclone.

Yeah, there's plenty. I don't know what I was thinking. My answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Energy Drain

She will reach out with a disembodied hand and draw energy from a nearby player.

Side B: Hands of Darkness

She will cause a patch of hands to reach up from the ground and attack the player with multiple hits.

Up B: Cyclone

She will rise off the ground in a typhoon of darkness, blowing around those standing too close to her in the process.

Down B: Dark Blast

A first tap and hold will allow her to draw in and charge up energy, raising her attack and defense for a second. A second tap will release a wave of darkness that will deal a lot of damage.

Final Smash: The Queen's Rise

Darkness will fall across the stage, tentacles will rise from the ground below, snagging the players and dragging them down. You will likewise hear screams from the audience offscreen. It would be fun, if used, for no crowd cheers to be heard ever after that point.

Entrance: She will rise from her tomb.

Taunt: Up, she will spread her arms and laugh evilly. Side, she will glare, and a set spot near her will receive one point of damage. Down, she will descend into shadow for a moment.

Kirby Hat: Her crown

Kart: A kart based on her tomb.

Special Move: She will cause hands to rise from the track, that will drag players down if driven into.

Spirit Battle: A giant battle, with Peach, on Rogueport.

Victory Screen: Darkness will fall eternally across the land as her opponents are dragged downward.

Losing Screen: She will dissolve into shadow, leaving only Princess Peach behind.

Color Swaps: Herself, a color based on Vivian, a color based on Marilyn, a color based on Beldam, possessing Princess Peach, possessing Daisy, possessing Rosalina, and possessing Pauline.

Thanks for reading! Next up, one that is very similar to a different character, so similar I'm still not sure they need to be separate.

X-Naut

X-NAUT

Accompanying Lord Crump as he accosts Goombella are legions of strange alien creatures clothed in uniforms that cover much of their bodies.

These are X-Nauts, the basic minions that act as your enemies throughout most of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. They serve under Sir Grodus and Lord Crump, and like them, wish to awaken the Shadow Queen in order to take over the world.

As fighters, they will be pretty basic, not strong in any stat or capacity, just average overall. Their moveset will pull from the various attacks they and their variants use across the game, as well as tech related to them as characters.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Second Chance: X-Naut

X-NAUT

Honestly, this is probably the first one on the list that I feel like I owe a genuine apology too. For some reason, as I was covering the Paper Mario series, I was in this weird headspace where I genuinely felt I couldn't have X-Nauts and Lord Crump both on the roster, because Lord Crump used X-Nauts so much. But now, a couple years later and having grown and evolved a lot in my considerations, that mentality seems just silly. For one, echo fighter should have been on the table, but I'm not even really sure that's necessary, as there's plenty of room between Crump and the X-Nauts to build at least semi-clones out of.

So, X-Nauts come in three varieties: standard X-Nauts, Elite X-Nauts, and X-Naut PhD's. X-Nauts typically attack with tackles and body slams, and can grow with a potion. They can also team up for various team attacks. Elites are fairly similar, just stronger. Finally, we have the PhD's, who come up with most of the tech used, including growth, shrinking, burning, and invisibility potions. Honestly, there's more than enough.

So, my answer is . . .

YES

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Potion

They will toss out a potion, which can grow, shrink, or damage an opponent depending on random chance.

Side B: Body Slam

The X-Naut will rush forward and flop down, body slamming into their opponent.

Up B: Individual Drop

A group of X-Nauts will gather and toss the lead X-Naut into the air to come back down on a player's head.

Down B: Invisibility

The X-Naut will drink a potion that will render them invisible for a short time to move around unseen.

Final Smash: X-Naut Ball

A bunch of X-Nauts will gather up into a giant ball and roll across the stage, crushing anyone in their path.

Entrance: The X-Naut will step out of an elevator.

Taunt: Up, the X-Naut will hold up a beaker and swish it around for a second. Side, the X-Naut will salute and stand at attention. Down, the X-Naut will hide behind a screen and take off its uniform for a second.

Kirby Hat: The top of their uniforms and goggles

Kart: A boxy car based on Magnus von Grapple.

Special Move: They will toss out a potion that will shrink opponents.

Spirit Battle: A horde battle, accompanied by Lord Crump, on Rogueport.

Victory Screen: An army of them will march across the screen in unison.

Losing Screen: A bunch of them will be strewn around the stage unconcious.

Color Swaps: The standard red, a blue color, a green color, a black and white color, a yellow color, a purple color, an Elite X-Naut, and an X-Naut PhD.

Thanks for reading! Next up, another that could have been an echo, or even probably a semi-clone.

Queen Bean

QUEEN BEAN

After much toil and trouble, Mario and Luigi make their way to the castle at the center of the Beanbean Kingdom to find most of the royal staff imprisoned by Cackletta and Fawful, the queen herself turned into a raging monster thanks to a worm in her stomach.

This is Queen Bean, the ruler of the Beanbean Kingdom. Though a very strong boss at first, after Mario and Luigi feed her cola to cough up the worm, she becomes a friendly ally to the brothers, giving them guidance whenever they return to the castle, and often sending her son Peasley out to give them useful hints or items.

As a fighter, Queen Bean will have a very high strength and weight stat, if a little on the slow side to compensate. Her moveset will pull from her own boss fight, elements of the Beanbean Kingdom directly related to her, and her faithful servant Lady Lima.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Second Chance: Queen Bean

QUEEN BEAN

I don't really know why this character is here, outside of "I had a feeling." Queen Bean is the mother of Prince Peasley and ruler of the Beanbean Kingdom in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Like her son, she is turned monstrous by Cackletta and Fawful, and thus acts as a boss battle, before being cured and acting as an ally through the rest of the game. There's not much to work with, as her battle features her pounding the ground to cause a shockwave and her spitting out a bean that will become a Beanie if it hits a player. Outside of that, she tends to hop up and down to cause earthquakes, and she is cured specifically by Chuckola cola. Then there's the Beanstar itself, and . . . you know what, what do I know?

I guess my answer is . . .

YES

Here is the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Bean

She will belch up a bean that will bounce across the stage. If it strikes an opponent, it will become a Beanie and roam the stage for a short time.

Side B: Ground Pound

She will raise her fists into the air and slam them down on the ground, creating a slight shockwave effect.

Up B: Bounce

She will bounce up and down, causing earthquakes if over ground.

Down B: Chuckola Cola

She will drink some Chuckola Cola, start to laugh, and restore a portion of her health.

Final Smash: Beanstar

The Beanstar will rise, she will speak to it, it will become angry at her "impure voice," and then slam into the stage, sending everyone flying.

Entrance: She will land hard, punching the ground.

Taunts: Up, she will raise into the air and come back down hard. Side, she will give off a full belly laugh. Down, she will hold up her muscular arms and one of them will go flat.

Kirby Hat: Her crown and purple hair.

Kart: A kart shaped like the Beanstar.

Special Move: She will be able to rise into the air momentarily and slam back down, causing those around her to spin out.

Spirit Battle: On Beanbean Kingdom, with Prince Peasley.

Victory Screen: She will toss out one of her opponents, wrapped up like a present.

Losing Screen: She will pass out on the ground, looking sick.

Color Swaps: Her normal look, her muscular look, her muscular look with one arm flat, her muscular look with both arms flat, her royal outfit from the final scene with all previously listed variations.

Thanks for reading! Next up, a character that won't necessarily be an echo, but there is at least no reason why they and Lord Crump couldn't have co-existed on the same roster.

Boshi

BOSHI

After defeating Bowyer and adding Geno to the team, Mario and his friends can head on to Mole Mountain, but an alternate optional route exists in the form of the Pipe Vault, leading to Yo'ster Island, the Super Mario RPG equivalent of Yoshi's Island. While there, Mario discovers that a Yoshi bully has been stealing everyone else's cookies and forbidding them all from racing.

This is Boshi, a pretty standard bully character that looks like your typical Yoshi, but a unique shade of blue with shades. Mario will challenge him to a race, forcing him to stand down if beaten. Over the years, Boshi's gotten a bit of a fan following, and a common suggestion for an echo fighter.

As a fighter, Boshi will be an echo fighter of Yoshi, but with a much higher speed stat. He'll probably have a bit more force behind his attacks too. His moves, like Yoshi's, will pull from all across the Yoshi games.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Second Chance: Boshi

BOSHI

Again, this is another fighter where I just have to look myself in the mirror and ask: "Why wasn't that an assist trophy?" To this day, I have no answer. The thought simply never occurred to me the entire time I was working through Super Mario RPG. Best reason I can come up with is my personal distaste for the character subconsciously clouding my judgment, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I can't remember that being part of it. There are plenty of characters I don't like on these rosters, and I always gave them a fair shot. So, I just don't know.

Either way, my answer is . . .

YES

Here is the moveset I came up with, based on my best memory of the Yoshi moveset:

Standard B: Swallow

Naturally, being a Yoshi. His eggs might be a little harder to break out of.

Side B: Egg Shot

Moved down here, thrown with a bit more speed to it.

Up B: Transform

While Yoshi would go for the helicopter, I imagine Boshi's a bit more of a fighter jet.

Down B: Butt Bash

He will slam his butt down on the ground, just the same.

Final Smash: Yoshi Herd

Same as Yoshi's, except Boshi will go zipping out ahead of the pack and smack into the opponent first.

Entrance: He will be surrounded by admirers before noticing you're here.

Taunts: Up, he will fix his shades and make them glint. Side, he will run in place for a second and limber up. Down, he will kick off his shoes for a second.

Kirby Hat: The Yoshi head, but with shades.

Kart: A kart that looks like the Yoshi Kart from Double Dash, but bluish-gray with shades on it.

Special Move: If right up next to an opponent, he will gain a burst of speed just to not get into second.

Spirit Battle: On Yoshi's Island, with a Yoshi horde, but he will attack them as well as you if they start doing better than him.

Victory Screen: He will stand smugly while surrounded by admirers.

Losing Screen: He will slump down on the ground and look sad.

Color Swaps: Take most of the Yoshi color swaps, and make them a bit more of a dark/faded color.

Thanks for reading! Next up, one I'm pretty sure won't get in, but I just want to do my due diligence.

Hellen Gravely

HELLEN GRAVELY

Years after Luigi's Mansion proved a fan favorite and cult classic, fans longed for a sequel. One came out in 2013, but was met with mixed reviews as it departed heavily from many of the things that made the first game so beloved. So it comes as no surprise that when a third game that returned to many of the established tropes of the first game while incorporating the better elements of the second was released in 2019, it was received with much acclaim. The story saw Mario, Luigi, Peach, and several Toads taking a vacation to a luxurious hotel, only to find it run by a suspicious woman with devious plans.

This woman was Hellen Gravely, a ghost and longtime admirer of King Boo. She released him from his last portrait and constructed the hotel as a trap in order to impress him and win his favor. She would act as a recurring boss throughout most of the game, alongside her faithful cat Polterkitty.

As a fighter, Hellen will be high in defense like most ghosts, and her moves will rely heavily on her keeping herself out of trouble and letting other elements, like her cat and her turrets, do most of the fighting. Her moveset will pull from her own boss battle, Polterkitty's battles, and the various elements of the hotel itself.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Second Chance: Hellen Gravely

HELLEN GRAVELY

And now we come to the final standard Mario roster entry for now: Hellen Gravely. Hellen first appeared as a secondary antagonist in Luigi's Mansion 3, the proprietor of the Last Resort hotel and a Harley Queen/Misa Misa-style simp for King Boo. I initially turned her down because her own boss battle is very simple in terms of Smash potential, as she mainly just uses a stationary machine that fires lasers in certain directions. She does come out a couple times and attack you with a mirror, but that's about it.

However, something I have gotten better at over time, is recognizing that that's not necessarily all there is to a given character, especially a character like her who created the entire hotel as a trap for Mario and Luigi, meaning that entire hotel can offer up things for us. There is also her cat, Polterkitty, who fights you frequently, but is also fairly simple, just attacking with claws mostly. All together, I think I have to say . . .

YES

Here is the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Polterkitty

She will send out Polterkitty to act on its own, taking on its monster form and stalking players. She can call it back with a second button press.

Side B: Mirror

She will hold out her mirror, which will reflect all energy blasts that come her way but stronger.

Up B: Ghostly Warp

Her elevator could be factored in here, but I'm going to go with her ability to warp between walls and floors instead.

Down B: Laser Turret

She will cause her laser turret to rise from the ground and fire lasers in a circular pattern for a short time.

Final Smash: Portrait

Mirroring King Boo's, she will summon up a giant picture frame that will swallow up those on the stage. The portrait will then be hung in her hotel's lobby.

Entrance: The hotel's elevator will open and she will come out.

Taunts: Up, she will raise her hands in a prima donna way. Side, she will hug one of the King Boo body pillows you can find on her bed in the hotel. Down, she will notice her face is messed up and fix it really quick.

Kirby Hat: Her big poof of hair.

Kart: A kart based on the luggage carts from the hotel.

Special Move: She will cause a turret to appear and fire a laser in a circular pattern across the track.

Spirit Battle: On Last Resort, with King Boo.

Victory Screen: She will present the portrait of her opponents to King Boo.

Losing Screen: She will appear trapped in one of her own portraits.

Color Swaps: Her standard appearance, her "ugly" unkempt appearance, a King Boo-themed outfit, a Polterkitty-themed outfit, wearing a bellhop's uniform, a blue outfit based on a security guard, a green outfit based on the gardener, a white outfit based on the chef.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we have yet another "Why wasn't that an echo? That would have been an easy echo?"

Megabug

MEGABUG

Eventually, Mario, the Rabbids, and their friends work their way to Bowser's Castle, where they'd been chasing Bowser Jr. for several levels. Upon arrival, they find Junior distraught that something had taken over his father and was now wreaking havoc upon the castle.

This is the Megabug, a glitch created by the Rabbids when they crossed over into the Mario universe, a glitch that started as a massive all-consuming vortex, but steadily took on a more physical destructive form thanks to all the warping being done by Bowser Jr. messing around with Spawny, until it found Bowser to be a suitable host for itself. A piece of it would survive and take possession of Rosalina in the sequel came to become Cursa.

As a fighter, Megabug will be large and powerful with lots of good aerial moves. Its moveset will pull from its boss battle while it is in possession of Bowser, as well as other notable features it displays outside of battle.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Second Chance: Megabug

MEGABUG

Okay, so, I did remember it. It's the dragon thing that takes over Bowser. I think I was just thrown off by the name. Either way, the Megabug is a glitch in the universe formed when the Rabbids accidentally merged their two universes. It originally appeared as a huge, all-devouring vortex, before steadily taking on a winged draconic form and taking over Bowser.

So there's a few Bowser-specific things to parse out if I can, but the rest goes as follows. It can summon up what looks like a bunch of small glitches in one hand and shoot them forward as a beam. It can fly on its dragon wings, and frequently causes hot spots to form directly under it, which it then ground pounds onto afterwards. It can also form a large polygonal shield around itself as armor, and of course we can't forget its giant vortex form.

I guess, at the end of the day, my vote is . . .

YES

Here is the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Glitch Beam

It will summon a bunch of fiery glitches and fire them off as a projectile beam directly ahead of itself.

Side B: Hot Spot

It will create a spot of heat directly beneath it that will linger for as long as the player pleases. At any point, when directly over the spot, the player can press a second command and ground pound it.

Up B: Dragon Wings

It will flap its wings and rise up into the air above the melee.

Down B: Shield

It will cause a large polygonal shield to form around itself that has a damaging surface.

Final Smash: Vortex

It will transform into its giant vortex form and suck all the players up into it, instantly KOing them.

Entrance: It will burst from a fiery vortex.

Taunts: Up, it will roar into the air like a dragon. Side, it will swoop around menacingly. Down, it will curl up with its wings in a defensive position.

Kirby Hat: Imagine the changes done to Bowser, but on Kirby.

Kart: A kart shaped like the Washing Machine the Rabbids came in.

Special Move: It will be able to create a vortex that will cover most of the road for a short time.

Spirit Battle: A battle with Bowser, followed by a giant battle, on Ancient Gardens.

Victory Screen: Everything will start to become glitchy and break apart.

Losing Screen: It will explode into light the way it does.

Color Swaps: Its standard appearance, a Cursa colored appearance, a gray appearance like the original vortex, and a white Rabbid appearance, its appearance when possessing Bowser, possessing Dry Bowser, possessing Meowser, and possessing a black magma-colored Bowser.

Thanks for reading! Next up is a major villain from Luigi's Mansion.
