YVES
Today, we begin the third (and probably last) big character haul of the Zelda series, assuming the Tingle and CDi games, the remakes, the animated series, and the comics don't add in anything too drastic. Our list covers twenty-eight familiar faces, and they are:
1. Linkle
2. The Youth
3. Wild Zelda
4. Wild Impa
5. Twili Midna
6. Lana
7. Darmani
8. Yunobo
9. Mikau
10. Sidon
11. Teba
12. Riju
13. Hestu
14. Epona
15. Tingle
16. Agitha
17. Purah & Robbie
18. Yves
19. Terrako
20. King Rhoam
21. Wild Fairies
22. Monk Maz Koshia
23. Cia
24. Astor
25. Volga
26. Wizzro
27. Manhandla
28. Sooga
And now for a character that I hadn't even realized existed on my first watch-through of Cadence of Hyrule, and it took my sitting down to write up the blog with the Wiki open to make sure I didn't miss anything to realized that there was an apparent fourth playable character. Yves appears in the game as a young Deku Scrub hanging out with Tingle, who acts as a secret "hard mode" character, his lack of hands making him unable to use several weapons from your usual arsenal, and only having one hit before he dies. While he can't, by design, use everything a gimmick rep of Cadence would require, he still had enough to get by.
As for the things he could do, he could burrow underground to avoid enemies, he could shoot a rock just like any other Deku Scrub, he could use the shovel that plays an important role in clearing your path throughout the game, he could use both bombs and bombchus, and he could use the lute used by the other players to teleport. That, at the very least, fills our four main special move slots. Throw in references to the other character's abilities and the game itself, as well as his own physical capacity and we have ourselves a moveset.
Here's the moveset I came up with:
Standard B: Rock Shoot
Like any other Deku Scrub, he will work up a rock in his mouth and shoot it forward like a projectile.
Side B: Shovel
He will pull out his shovel and scoop it forward. If there is an obstacle there placed by another character, say a Steve block or something, it will instantly remove it. If not, it will just toss some dirt at the nearest fighter.
Up B: Lute
He will play the lute and teleport away just like in the game.
Down B: Burrow
Bomb would work too, but I wanted to be a little more creative. He will burrow into the ground until you release the button. While in this state, you can move around along the same plane and pop out wherever.
Final Smash: Rhythms of Hyrule
He will summon Link, Zelda, and Cadence to back him up. A checkerboard grid will appear around the four, flashing with music from the game, as the four characters attack anyone stuck in the grid.
Entrance: He will teleport in with the lute.
Taunts: Up, he will bop his head to the music. Side, he will strum a little on his lute. Down, he will rest on his shovel for a second.
Thanks for reading! Next up, the adorable little robot that changed history.
