Character Sheet: Tryclyde

TRYCLYDE

Now, we have finished the television series, and we have SO many characters to cover, from all across the spectrum. There are a few characters here and there that might get a few upgrades to their movesets, mostly being the Donkey Kong cast (one example, I think Klump should absolutely have a Klaptrap gun now). Today, we're going to be covering Tryclyde, the three-headed serpent that acted as a boss in Super Mario Bros. 2, and went on to appear multiple times across the first season of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! as part of a trio of Bowser's dimwitted minions, alongside Mouser and a random Koopa Troopa. Now, while the game version of him mostly just moves back and forth and breathes fire, the show version of him generally used a wide plethora of moves ranging from specific to him and used in several episodes to episode-specific and based on the parody of the day. These include spitting fireballs, spitting poison, using a net and trident combo, swinging around a sword, and driving a BMX bike. Also of note is the Cobrat enemies which tend to be used as guns by Koopa and his minions. Certainly enough for me.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Poison Breath

Since fireballs will probably play a large part in the rest of his moveset, for the special I opted for the poison, though if you wish, his standard fire breath can easily take its place here. Tryclyde will fire three sprays of poison from his mouths, inflicting damage on its victims.

Side B: Net and Trident

Coming from his first appearance in the Colosseum and used later elsewhere, Tryclyde will use a net-and-trident combo, tossing a net across his opponents and then stabbing them with a trident.

Up B: Coil Spring

Coming a bit more from his, um, being a snake than anything, though still seen here and there, Tryclyde will coil up before launching himself into the air, his three mouths lashing at anything in front of them.

Down B: BMX Screech

Based on the episode where Koopa's trio of minions compete in a BMX tournament against the heroes, Tryclyde will whip out his BMX bike and loop around in a tight and fast circle, doing damage with the wheels. I wanted to differentiate it from other bike moves.

Final Smash: Boss Battle

While Tryclyde will spend the majority of his battles in his TV show proportions, in his final smash, he will grow up to his boss battle size (probably even bigger) and breathe intense fire across the stage.

Entrance: It will emerge from an Eagle Gate.

Taunts: Up, the center head will sniff at the air as if hunting for prey. Side, the right head will swing around a sword in practice. Down, the left head will hang low, as if disappointed and feeling dumb.

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover the TV representation of Mario as most memorably played by Captain Lou Albano!
