OOGTAR
Now, we have finished the television series, and we have SO many characters to cover, from all across the spectrum. There are a few characters here and there that might get a few upgrades to their movesets, mostly being the Donkey Kong cast (one example, I think Klump should absolutely have a Klaptrap gun now). But, there are so many that are so distinct from their game counterparts, I could only make a brand new slot for them. They are:
1. Beezo
2. Flurry
3. Rex
4. Tryclyde
5. TV Mario
6. TV Luigi
7. Tommy Treehugger & Co-MC

Today, let's go over Oogtar, the young caveboy who befriends Yoshi and helps out the Mario brothers on occasion in the third season of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! or Super Mario World, if you prefer. He was voiced by John Stocker, the voice behind Toad in the first two seasons, which leads me to think he was created specifically to give Stocker a role in Toad's absence (because his absence from the game CLEARLY had to be adhered to in the show).
Oogtar is a pretty basic caveman archetype, using lots of things you'd expect of that kind of character, though with a slightly childish edge to him, being a child in the show. He is also the foremost example of the cavepeople of Dome City in the show, so he is also the best to act as a representative of them. This gives him the ability to swing on a vine, use a rope, ride around on a wheel and use a rudimentary car using those wheels, pick and eat berries, hoe a garden and work out a rudimentary irrigation and plumbing system, and use a club as his main weapon. There's also a giant dinosaur thing built by Kooky von Koopa that I can't help but feel is distinctly tied to the cavepeople.
Here's the moveset I came up with:
Standard B: Caveman Club
He will swing his club down hard, slamming it hard on top of the head of anyone within striking range, doing heavy damage and disorienting them for a moment.
Side B: The Wheel
This mainly comes from the episode where the Mario brothers help the cavepeople invent the wheel, leading to lots of chaos among them. Oogtar will hop on top of it, balance for a second, before falling off and sending the wheel crashing forward.
Up B: Vine Swing
Basically, he'll do the Tarzan thing. He'll grab a vine and swing upward for a sizeable distance.
Down B: Bamboo Piping
This comes from the episode where the Mario brothers try to rig up a rudimentary piping system for the cavepeople using bamboo, an attempt quickly thwarted by a hungry Yoshi. Basically, Oogtar will disconnect a section of the piping, causing the water flowing through it to spill out across the ground.
Final Smash: Mega-Mechanisaur
This one is based on the giant dinosaur mech built by Kooky, using the cavepeople's rudimentary technology. The machine will appear on the stage and tromp across it, basically bulldozing everything in its path.
Entrance: He will hop down off of a vine.
Taunts: Up, he will hop up and down excitedly, swinging around his club. Side, he will rub his chin and look inquisitive. Down, he will slump and say, "Me no want to fight. Me want to play!"
Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover the TV version of King Koopa!
Also, I feel the need to make a note here. Walker Boone, the voice actor who replaced Lou Albano in the role of Mario, passed away in January of this year, a fact that has only recently been made known to the public. I just wanted to make note of that to correct the information in my earlier blog. Rest in peace, Mr. Boone.
