Character Sheet: Rex

REX

Now, we have finished the television series, and we have SO many characters to cover, from all across the spectrum. There are a few characters here and there that might get a few upgrades to their movesets, mostly being the Donkey Kong cast (one example, I think Klump should absolutely have a Klaptrap gun now). But, there are so many that are so distinct from their game counterparts, I could only make a brand new slot for them. They are:

Today, let's go over the Rexes, a species of dinosaur prominent in Super Mario World, a part of the whole "dinosaur" focus of the game alongside Dino Rhinos, Reznors, Eeries, and Blarggs (at least the SMW version of Blarggs, anyway). While Rexes would definitely be the best option, physicality-wise, to represent all the dinosaurs of this game as a whole, there still wasn't quite enough in my opinion until they played a role as major minions of King Koopa in the Super Mario World season of the television series. They appear most prominently in a circus-themed episode wherein they throw pies via catapults, bounce on trampolines, and swing on trapezes. I think that's just enough.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Pie Catapult

This one is based specifically on the circus episode in question. The Rex will pull back on the catapult and launch a pie flying across the stage.

Side B: Dino Rhino

This one makes use of one of his main fellow dinosaurs, the Dino Rhino. A Dino Rhino will appear on the stage and charge across it, the Rex clinging onto its back for dear life.

Up B: Trapeze Performance

Although the Rexes do seem to have wings, they don't seem to be used much, and they can be utilized in the regular jumps and such. The Rex will launch off a trampoline from the circus episode, launching itself into the air, catching a trapeze at the apex and then throwing itself forward.

Down B: Dino Torch

I thought about using Blargg here, but I feel Dino Torch is much more . . . specifically a dinosaur. The Rex will bring out a Dino Torch and it will open its mouth, launching a fireball either forwards or upwards, probably depending on your input.

Final Smash: Reznors

This will be based on the mini-boss fights with Reznors throughout the game. A carousel of platforms will appear, each with a Reznor on it. The carousel will spin and the Reznors will spit fire at any opponent they see.

Entrance: It will come down a steep slope like in its first game.

Taunts: Up, it will raise its spear into the air in a prehistoric cheer. Side, it will let out an attempt at a roar that will be more cute than terrifying. Down, it will take on its scrunched-up damaged animation from the game.

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover an iconic Super Mario Bros. 2 boss, Tryclyde!
