Mario Kart 64

 MARIO KART 64

Now, let's cover Mario Kart 64, which in many ways was the game that really nailed home and defined what the Mario series was. With full 3D graphics, sixteen distinct tracks across four cups, and the "main eight" that most subsequent titles would build their rosters off of, the impact of Mario Kart 64 is definitely one you can feel across the series as a whole. I know it was the one I grew up with.

As for our characters, as stated before, we see the first appearance of the main eight with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, and Bowser all returning, and Donkey Kong and Wario replacing Koopa and Donkey Kong Jr. As we stated before, there's not much to say on any of them, as the Kart Racing is the core game mechanic. So, what we should be making note of instead is that this game adds in Triple Mushrooms, giving you three consecutive boosts; Super Mushrooms, giving you an indefinite amount of boosts for a short time; Fake Items, that look like regular item boxes; Banana Bunches, that let you lay down a bunch of peels on the road; Triple Green and Red Shells, giving you multiple projectiles; and the world-famous Spiny Shell, a ridiculously powerful blue shell that specifically seeks out the player in the lead with murderous intent. All of these can be added to the Mario Kart moveset.

As for our sixteen tracks, we have: Luigi Raceway, a generic track; Moo Moo Farm, set on a farm naturally; Koopa Troopa Beach, a beach level; Kalimari Desert, a desert track with a train running through it; Toad's Turnpike, a busy highway with lots of cars to run into; Frappe Snowland, a snow level; Choco Mountain, a mountain that looks like it's made of Cocoa Puffs; Mario Raceway, a longer generic Mario track; Wario Stadium, a monster-truck rally type stadium; Sherbet Land, another snow level but with a higher focus on ice; Royal Raceway, another generic track that intersects with the castle from Super Mario 64; Bowser's Castle, a Bowser's Castle level naturally; DK's Jungle Parkway, a jungle level; Yoshi Valley, a sprawling mazelike track; Banshee Boardwalk, a haunted boardwalk once again; and this one's iteration of Rainbow Road, which seems to be roughly the second most popular version out there.

Something I neglected to mention in the last post was the Battle mode, where players could drive around in a square/circle arena and use items against each other to knock out each other's balloons. Luckily, the first game's "arenas" aren't really anything to write home about and are mostly just square versions of the various track biomes. Mario Kart 64, however, has Big Donut, a giant round arena surrounded by lava; Block Fort, one of my personal favorites; Double Deck, a two-story card-table-looking stage; and Skyscraper, a small arena at the top of a, well, skyscraper.

Lakitu returns as the referee, while Boos, Cheep Cheeps, Chain Chomps, Monty Moles (or Chubbies, I guess), Bats (not Swoops apparently), Crabs, Penguins, Piranha Plants, Porcupos, Mr. Blizzards, and Thwomps all appear on the various stages as background elements or obstacles.

Here's what we've got so far:

Super Mario Kart

 SUPER MARIO KART

Alright, now, with all the RPGs behind us, let us head on into the next section we'll be covering: the sports games, starting with the most well-known branch, the Mario Kart games. This section with covered all main eight games in the Kart series, so not including the Arcade games, Tour, or Home Circuit (not yet, at least). It will also only cover the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8, as deluxe versions and re-releases will be covered at a later date.

Super Mario Kart was released in 1992 for the SNES. I call it the awkward first attempt before the series really nailed down what it was with Mario Kart 64. Obviously, for its time, it has somewhat awkward 2D graphics and filled with a number of elements most familiar with Mario Kart games would find a bit strange to say the least. That said, its still a fun game and an obviously important part of history to remember.

Now, we have talked a bit before about how I'll be largely putting character sheet revisions aside from here on out, and this is why. The Mario Kart games, and most games from here on out, are not really about what the individual characters can do. It's about a fun-filled experience using a specific mechanic and style of gameplay, with the character's faces slapped on mainly so we're not playing as a bunch of faceless generic blobs. I will make mention here and there if there is something specific to any character to make note of, like special moves and such, but most of those are based on things we've already seen as it is. So, really, we're not going to be making movesets for the characters this time. We will instead (as most of you probably figured from my Diddy Kong Racing post) be making a moveset for a Mario Kart character, the gimmick rep if you will.

So, anyway, our playable racers for this game are Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong Jr., Toad, and Koopa. You may notice that this differs a bit from what is considered the standard "Main Eight" of Mario Kart, but considering Wario's first appearance did not happen until two months later, and the Donkey Kong as we now know him did not really exist until two years later (being really just a big dumb boss monkey before and never even playable), Koopa and Donkey Kong Jr. are understandable alternatives here. All play largely the same, with the exception of different weight classes, so there's not much need to focus on the individuals.

The Kart mechanic on its own, however, has a number of abilities. Obviously it would move around like a car, but with various jumps and turns one can pull off, and the fact that the driver's arms are typically free, I see no reason one couldn't form a reasonable frame of movement from that, if maybe a little faster than many are comfortable with. As for moves, the items a driver can pick up in the game offer up much we can work with. This game in particular gives us Banana Peels to use basically as oil slicks, Green Shells as projectiles, Red Shells as heat-seeking projectiles, Feathers that let you pull off even higher jumps, Mushrooms that give you a boost, Stars that make you invulnerable to damage, Ghosts that turn you intangible and steal items for you, Coins, Lightning that shrinks the user's opponents, and Eggs, Fireballs, and Poison Mushrooms that can only be used by Yoshi, Bowser, Peach, and Toad if controlled by CPUs.

A few other characters appear, such as Lakitus, Monty Moles, Bullet Bills, Thwomps, Piranha Plants, and Cheep Cheeps, but most of them only act as stage hazards, while Lakitu acts as the referee who starts the race and the rescue squad if you fall into a hazard.

As for stages, rather than the expected Mario Kart setup of sixteen unique tracks spread out in four groups of four as cups, this game instead has five tracks per cup and most are different tracks with eight general biomes familiar to Mario fans at the time. These include Mario Circuit, a generic Mario-style track similar to what most expect as the first track of every game; Donut Plains, a more wild area with dirt tracks and grassy sides; Ghost Valley, a boardwalk haunted by Boos; Bowser's Castle, a lava-filled stage with castle cobblestones for track; Choco Island, a tasty-looking desert track with lots of dust; Koopa Beach, a beach track surrounded by water; Vanilla Lake, an icy snowland; and Rainbow Road, the rainbow-paved track set in space widely accepted as the standard final track of every game.

Here's what we've got so far:

Character Sheet: Durmite/Wisdurm

 DURMITE/WISDURM

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

I wasn't going to include this one, as, even though the character had a bunch of moves, she didn't feel like an important enough character to include (similar to the Massif Bros. in this same batch), but then upon further reflection, I remembered Jonathan Jones, and Rawk Hawk, and Francis, all with an arguably smaller role than she did, and I really didn't have much of a case. Durmite is a strange parasitic worm the brothers discover inside of Bowser's body that they have to fight off, only to later discover that she is in fact a fairy guarding one of the Star Cures needed to defeat Fawful, and was transformed into a bug in order to get at the Cure.

She has three different forms, her bigger blue worm form Durmite, her tiny pink fairy form Wisdurm, and her pink worm form somewhere in between. I figure all three will be present, at least as color swaps but will still generally fight the same way. Across your various battles with her, she attacks you in various ways, including charging at you, sucking things up through a straw, eating enemies with her Birdo-like mouth, spit webs and swing around on them, get bigger, drop a giant heart crystal out of the sky on someone, shoot stars with her magic wand, and shrink you down. Definitely plenty to work with for me. Let's see what we can do.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Crystal Heart

She will wave her wand around, summoning a large crystal heart into the air a little bit in front of her and letting it slam down on anything beneath it.

Side B: Star Stream/Web Stream

This functions on the same principle, but appears differently in different battles. In one form, she shoots a string of web and sweeps it back and forth. In another, it's a stream of stars but acts much the same. This would play out on the smash stage as well.

Up B: Web Swing

She would spit a string up into the air, let it latch onto something, and then swing upwards the way she does in the game.

Down B: Straw

She would stick someone with her straw from the game and begin draining health from them for as long as she can hold them. This would restore her own health as well.

Final Smash: True Form

She would revert to her true form of Wisdurm, wave her wand into the air, making Star Cures appear in the air behind her, and then she cast a spell across the entire stage, causing every fighter to shrink down to minuscule size.

Entrance: She'd wriggle her way up from the underground.

Taunts: Up, she would wiggle her wand-tail around. Side, she would curl up and snooze for a second. Down, she would flare her snout and get angry for a second.

Character Sheet: Popple

 POPPLE

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, let's cover Popple, the recurring thief from Superstar Saga and Dream Team. Popple wasn't initially going to make it into the roster, as most of his fights involve him letting someone else do the fighting for him and then running away as soon as they are defeated. However, on a second go-over, he had just enough to convince me otherwise.

Among the various moves he uses when he's not running away are sneakily stealing the weapons of his opponents and using them against them, charging at an opponent and forcefully stealing a healing item from them, and pulling out a bag and tossing items from it. He can also use "Bros. Attacks" with his partners, the most famous of which is Rookie, an amnesiac Bowser, who will grab him and throw him into the air for a piledrive maneuver.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Steal

This move is pretty simple. He will basically reach out and steal any item a character might be holding so that he might use it himself. Probably would have a timing element so as not to be broken, I imagine.

Side B: Charge

He will hop, pump his legs really fast, and charge headfirst into an opponent. Rather than take a healing item though, he will simply steal health, recovering as much damage as he dealt with the attack.

Up B: Bros. Attack

Rookie (with the distinctive headband so you don't confuse him for regular Bowser) will appear and throw Popple into the air, then jump up and chuck him toward the ground in the direction indicated by the player.

Down B: Loot Toss

He will pull out his bag of loot and toss out an item. These items can be hammers, soccer balls, or random items from the game.

Final Smash: Run Away

Now, a different possibility would be for him to simply piss something off (like the Wiggler from Dream Team) and then peace out as it rampages around the stage, but the best candidates I can think of are already playable here (Bowser, Birdo, and Wiggler). Another possibility that falls a bit into the experimental stage, but would be entirely on brand for the character, is that he simply decides to run away from battle, hopping off the stage but without his stocks and damage counter going away, effectively making him immune to losing lives and taking damage for a short time until he decides to get back into the action.

Entrance: It would be funny if his cover is blown and he just plays it off like he was always supposed to be there.

Taunts: Up would be his little hopping fit he does when he's really angry. Side, he would crouch and look back and forth with shifty eyes. Down, he might dig around in his bag like Nabbit does.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we will finish the newcomers with Durmite, or Wisdurm, the fairy-caterpillar creature from Bowser's Inside Story.

Character Sheet: Shroob

SHROOB

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, we'll be covering the Shroobs, the alien race who invaded the Mushroom Kingdom in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time under the leadership of Princess Shroob. This is the only enemy species we'll be covering this time, and the only enemy species that will appear in the RPG roster. They come in many forms, from regular grunts, scientists, and the larger Shrooboids, all of which will be represented here.

Across the game, the Shroobs are seen flying around in their flying saucers and shooting laser guns, probably their most iconic moves, as well as firing massive laser blasts, calling in other saucers to shoot lasers from above, swimming in sand, throwing spike balls and giant hammers, summoning hammers, using special Shroob Bob-Ombs, throwing meteors, throwing fireballs and lightning, spinning and throwing maces, trapping opponents in crystal, and throwing lollipops (that one's more or less specific to a specific Shrooboid boss). Also their ships have shown the capacity to transform living beings into poisonous mushrooms. I'd say that's quite a bit.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Giant Laser

The Shroob will pull out its laser gun and fire off a blast. You can either fire off a regular blast, or you can hold the attack down, increasing the power and size of the blast, similar to characters like Samus.

Side B: Meteor

The Shroob will pull out a flaming meteor and throw it into the air, at which point it will careen down through the air at an angle like a meteor falling from the sky.

Up B: Flying Saucer

The Shroob will hop up into one of its saucers, its head poking out the top the way it does. You can fly around in this state for a short time at your leisure, pressing A to fire lasers from the ship's guns.

Down B: Crystal

The Shroob will freeze an opponent in a solid chunk of crystal, which will last for a short time, similar to being frozen in ice.

Final Smash: Invasion

A swarm of Shroob saucers will fly down from the sky and zoom all around the stage, firing off lasers everywhere. Everywhere a shot hits, purple mushrooms will spawn, spewing poisonous gas around the area. Every opponent hit will be turned into a purple mushroom.

Entrance: They will float down in a saucer and pop out of it.

Taunts: Up, the shroob will pirouette on one foot and point its gun to the left. Side, the shroob will pull out a lollipop and lick it for a second. Down, the shroob will dig into the sand for a second and pop back up wearing a scuba mask.

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's check out our recurring thief character, Popple.

Character Sheet: Midbus

 MIDBUS

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

So, apparently in most other languages, this guys names is something along the lines of Mettaboss and the English version just dumbified it. I mean, it's okay I guess. He's still a cool character (not just because of his final fate), it just would have been cooler if that was the name I had grown up knowing. Ah, well. Midbus is a giant pig monster who serves Fawful in Bowser's Inside Story as Fawful's general and a heavyweight who can go toe-to-toe with Bowser in terms of physical strength. Obviously you have a few battles with him across the game, and plenty to work with from those.

In his main form, he can throw a gigantic punch like Bowser's, roll up into a ball similar to how Bowser does, leap into the air and belly flop on top of you, swing around a heavy iron ball, and puff out his stomach to protect himself. In his Blizzard form, the final form you fight him in, he takes on a more icy personal, throwing snowballs, creating snowmen to fight you, climbing up walls, divebombing down on top of you, and rolling up into a snowball.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Giant Punch/Snow Punch

He will function on a similar level to Joker, in that he will have just his base form, which is slightly weaker, then at a certain point he can power up into his Blizzard Form which gain ice and snow properties. His standard B will just have him pull back and throw a giant punch, but in Blizzard Form, a snowman will appear in front of him and he will punch the snowman's head off throwing it as a projectile.

Side B: Ball Roll/Snowball

In his standard form, he will roll up into a ball and roll around the stage. In Blizzard Form, he will roll up into a giant snowball, doing the same but with much more damage.

Up B: Belly Flop/Divebomb

In his regular form, he will leap up into the air and come down on his belly, bouncing up again if he lands just right. In his Blizzard Form, he will climb and ice wall created under his hands and feet and then launch himself off in a divebomb maneuver.

Down B: Hammer Toss/Snowball Throw

In his regular form, this will be the move where he swings a giant steel ball around himself. In his Blizzard form, the ball is replaced with a snowball that he will spin and throw.

Final Smash: Blizzard

His blizzard machine from his final battle will appear on the stage, whipping up a terrible blizzard and freezing everyone in sight in the same way that he is ultimately frozen.

Entrance: He will simply tromp on all matter-of-factly the way he does in-game

Taunts: Up, he will look up to the sky and snort angry. Side, he will pound his fists together angrily, steam coming from his ears. Down, he will crouch down and stretch his back.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we will cover the one enemy-type character in the game.

Character Sheet: Antasma

 ANTASMA

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. 10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, let's check out our final main villain of the Mario & Luigi series, the nightmarish vampire demon who put the Pi'illo people into a deep sleep that lasted for centuries. He and Bowser gang up to take over both the real world and the dream world, and he has all sorts of nightmare powers we can work with. Let's get started. So, to start off, Antasma has a nice big pair of claws to work with, he can take on a pillow form, and he can turn into a swarm of bats. He can create Dreamy Marios to serve him, similar to the Dreamy Luigis. He can create fire and smoke and open up chasms. He and Bowser work together to make dreambeats to put others to sleep. He can create duplicates of himself, throw balls of energy, create a circle of spikes around himself, and summon a dark shield. Definitely quite a bit to work with.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Dreambeats

One of the main things he is known for, Antasma's main special will feature him setting off some dreambeats which will then put anyone within the radius displayed around him visibly to sleep.

Side B: Spike Circle

He can also summon up a circle of spikes around himself, which will offer him some protection by planting hazards in front of him for enemies to walk into

Up B: Swarm of Bats

His main exit and entrance will of course feature him transforming into a swarm of bats and flying upward. If the bats fly into anyone, they will do a bit of poison damage.

Down B: Dark Shield

This is based on the Dark Shield he summons during his battles. We have had a few shield down specials in this series now, but I guess that's just part of the Mario & Luigi mechanics.

Final Smash: Dreamy Bowser

For his final smash, he will summon up the technicolor Dreamy Bowser who will then rampage around the stage in his gigantic form.

Entrance: He'll fly in as a bat.

Taunts: Up, he will laugh maniacally while lightning strikes in the background. Side, he will spread himself out as bats and come back together. Down, he will transform into his pillow form and rest a while.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover our one single supporting villain this time around, Midbus!

Character Sheet: The Dark Star

 THE DARK STAR

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Now, I wasn't too big of a fan of the Dark Star at first. From my perspective, I had been excited to see an epic showdown between the Mario Bros. and Fawful, a satisfying conclusion to the rivalry that had been brewing across three games, only for Fawful to be completely superseded by a big, evil personality-less force in the last act, and for Fawful the character to go out like a little snitch. That said, having now looked at the character a little more closely for this series of blogs, I may have been a little unfair to it. It certainly has a bit more personality than I gave it credit for, its concept gives an interesting battle mechanic for the brothers and Bowser, and I think most are agreed that its theme song slaps.

The Dark Star starts out as just this mysterious and powerful meteor that fell from the sky that Fawful tries to harness the power from and use for his own personal gain, only for Fawful to be screwed over by his own hubris and for the Dark Star to break free and turn against him. The dark star walls created by Fawful should be considered here. For the first part of its major role in the story, it wanders around the inside of Bowser's body, copying all information it can gather on its host and then incorporating that into its own abilities. Those include being able to grow an arm to mimic Bowser's strong punch, being able to breathe fire like Bowser, and mimicking Bowser's spiky shell as well, eventually forming itself into a complete copy of Bowser (because we always have to end on a Bowser fight). That said, this works for our purposes, because he can almost act entirely as a separate gimmick rep for Bowser's moves as represented in this game. Once it takes on the full Bowser form, it can suck in (a prominent feature of this game), create a thick blanket of fog, throw lightning, create little dark copies of Fawful, fire lasers, bounce around at high speed, whip up a dark hurricane, trap his enemies in a cage of darkness, and throw a giant rock. I think that's more than good enough here.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Vacuum Breath

The move that kickstarted the plot and resulted in the death of Fawful, the Dark Star will open a mouth and suck in those that got too close to it. I should say here that my concept for the character will have the Dark Star in its regular for, but with each move, its body will shift to grow the part needed for the attack.

Side B: Mega Punch

This is based on the super strong punch used by Bowser in the game that is then mimicked by the Dark Star. The Dark Star will grow a muscular arm, pull back tightly, and then punch with all of its might.

Up B: Spiky Shell

This pulls from Bowser's usage of his shell unique to this game, that the Dark Star then mimics, but also pulls from his own moves during the final battle. The Dark Star will curl up into a spiky ball, just like Bowser in his shell and then will bounce itself higher and higher.

Down B: Dark Star Wall

This is based on the walls created by Fawful in order to prevent the Mario Bros. entering Peach's Castle. Basically, the Dark Star will summon the wall in front of itself as a shield, but the wall will remain where it is for a short time, allowing the Dark Star to move freely separate from it.

Final Smash: Dark Hurricane

This is based on the powerful dark storm whipped up by the Dark Star during the final battle. The storm will rage across the stage, sucking up the various characters and launching them into the sky.

Entrance: The Star will rise from the crater it formed when it landed.

Taunts: Up, the Star will form a dark spot of energy directly over its head that will crackle for a second. Side, the Star will squint at an opponent for a second and then mimic either a fist, gun, or sword with its own body, depending on the opponent's weapon of choice. Down, the star will create a tiny clone of Fawful and watch it scurry around for a second.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we will cover the villain of Dream Team, Antasma!

Character Sheet: Princess Shroob

 PRINCESS SHROOB

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

1. Toadsworth

2. Captain Toad

3. Buzzy Beetle

4. King Bob-Omb

5. Pokey

6. Ninji

7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Okay, so, strictly speaking, we are talking about the younger Princess Shroob who acts as the actual villain for the majority of the game, not the elder Princess Shroob who shows up at the end as a "SURPRISE!" secret villain. That said, Elder Princess Shroob's battle will factor into this as well, as giving them both a character slot just kinda felt superfluous (but hey, if you'd like to think of them as echoes . . .).

The Shroob sisters are the leaders of the Shroob army, with the elder being locked away at the beginning of the game, leading to her younger sister to spearhead the invasion seeking a means to free her sister once again. Across the game, the younger princess rides in a hover throne, not unlike Cacklettas. She calls in Shroob soldiers and flying saucers to do her bidding. She can summon a shield, fire lasers, call down laser fire from above, attack with electrical orbs, grow spider-legs from her chair, and teleport. Her sister can ride on flying saucers, stomp and charge, throw meteors, spew poisonous clouds, and swing her tentacles around. I'd say that's enough.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Flying Saucer

I think, similar to Rosalina, she should be able to call in a saucer to hang around her and act as a second fighter. Pressing the command once will summon it, again while it's out will send it forward to attack opponents.

Side B: Laser Fire

This will be a standard attack for both her and her saucer. She will spin and shoot with her own laser gun, while the saucer will shoot a beam from above.

Up B: Saucer Flight OR Spider-Chair

One possibility will be to have the saucer either carry her up via tractor beam or have her ride it like her elder sister does. OR her spider-chair will come out under her, crouch down, and then spring into the air.

Down B: Shield OR Sky Beam

One possibility is that she will project her shield that she uses in battle. Another is that she will call down a beam from outer space. Part of me feels like that's a little too similar to the Side B, hence the options.

Final Smash: Elder Princess Shroob

I mean, obviously, right? If she's not playable, she's going to be her sister's final smash. The Elder Princess will basically burst onto the scene, spewing toxic gas everywhere while attacking with her tentacles.

Entrance: She will float down in her throne.

Taunts: Up, she will spin and hold up her chalice. Side, she and her sister will stand side to side and look at each other. Down, she will screech in fury and point at the last opponent to do her damage.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we will cover the Dark Star, the cosmic entity that kinda stole Fawful's thunder a little bit.

Character Sheet: Fawful

FAWFUL

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. Now, you who are reading this must speak of FAWFUL! Ohoho, yes, it is true. Fawful is single greatest villain to ever menace twin plumbers garbed in green and red. Fawful began his illustrious career in the service of his beautiful and wicked mistress, the Great Cackletta. But woe is Fawful, for stupid plumbers of green and red killed her to death. Now Fawful has fury! He hide out all throughout game starring purple alien mushrooms, yes. He run shop while plotting his great revenge, which he carry out in next game, dubbed Inside the Story of Large Green Turtle, where he has ascended to full and glorious villain, seeking out the Dark Star of great legend.

The great Fawful have many awe-inspiring abilities which can be utilized for great evil purpose in silly action fighting game known as Smashing the Supers who are Brothers. First, he have flying hat of his own invention, with which he can spray a powerful beanbean toxin, shoot dazzling laser beams, and use in a similar fashion to a vacuum cleaner. He can then throw lightning bolts from antenna affixed atop his head, create a dome to shield him from silly plumber's pitiful attacks, and create ring of lasers around himself. As part of his great and brilliant revengeful plotting, he uses mushrooms good for creating inflation known as blorbs, and also mushroom that creates great shrinking vacuum breath. He has much bigger flying machine on which he stands, much more powerful than silly flying hat from first game. On this machine, he can shoot energy beam laser, extend giant mechanical hand, and fire rockets. Absorbing power of the Dark Star, he creates walls of impenetrable force, through which only powerfully strong attack can get through. He also learns to float in air, summon shooting stars and balls of energy and holes of worm and misty fog through which none can see. Upon taking supreme control of the castle owned by Pink Princess of the fruit variety, he fawfulize many, many minions, imprinting his own most glorious face instead of their own hideous faces. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Now, I turn over to strange and ugly otherworldly being typing Fawful's words on strange alien device for Smashing the Supers who are Brothers rundown.

Standard B: Bean Gas

Um, anyway, whatever that was about. As you might have guessed, Fawful is all about technology, so I figure he will be a bit similar to Mega Man and have a number of beam and projectile attacks outside of his special moves, so a lot of his moves, like his lightning and his energy ball attacks, I'll save for those. For his standard B, he will spray the terrible green gas that he uses on Princess Peach at the very beginning of Superstar Saga. This will do heavy poison damage to anyone who walks through, and will turn their faces green for a short time.

Side B: Rockets

Fawful will fire off a pair of rockets from his back, which will heat seek toward the nearest players.

Up B: Jetpack Helmet

As his Bowser's Inside Story base platform will likely act as part of his body throughout regular gameplay, I figure his flying helmet from Superstar Saga can make an appearance here as his Up Special. He will fire its rocket boosters and it will carry him upward.

Down B: Energy Dome

For this one, I will use his shielding move from Superstar Saga. He will crouch down and will project a dome of energy around himself that will electrify any who come too close.

Final Smash: Dark Star Fawful

Um, a few possibilities here. One is the living version of Princess Peach's Castle created by him (but I'd kinda want to see it as a stage honestly), another is maybe the Blorbs or the Vacuum Mushroom. (Both are a little un-aggressive, so I'm not sure), but I feel the best would see him transform into the shadowy husk clone made of him by the Dark Star after he has been absorbed into it. The Fawful creature would appear on the stage and perform a number of its attacks, including creating wormholes around the stage.

Entrance: He will float down on his flying machine and chortle for a second.

Taunts: Up, he will shout "I have FURY!!" in bold text (might do damage, I don't know). Side, he will chortle his famous laugh. Down, he will tuck down and glance back and forth surreptitiously.

Thank you, puny mortal, for reading about the great and glorious Fawful. Return the day after this day to read about strange alien woman responsible for attack on kingdom of Pink Fruit Princess.

Character Sheet: Cackletta

 CACKLETTA

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. 8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

10. Nabbit

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Now, let's get into some of the real good stuff: the villains. Cackletta is the main villain of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, a witch of the Beanbean Kingdom who casts curses on Princess Peach, Prince Peasley, and Queen Bean in a ploy to usurp the thrones of both kingdoms. She starts out the game in her normal witchy form before being killed and her remains eaten by Bowser, at which point her essence starts to take over his body and transform him. We will use the base form, I think.

Across your various battles with her, we can throw lightning, transform herself to look like others, ride in a flying chair that can shoot lasers, cast curses, create bat duplicates of herself, create voids for opponents to fall into, possess the bodies of others (Bowser), shoot fireballs (though that's probably more of a Bowser thing than Cackletta thing), throw shooting stars at you, and suck you in. You also get the chance to fight Cackletta's essence inside of Bowser, which will attack by creating large energy balls, sweep its arms around in a circle, and fire laser beams from its eyes.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Lightning

One of her main attacks. She will raise one hand, which will determine where the lightning strikes. The left will hit closer to Cackletta, the right will hit further out from Cackletta.

Side B: Void

She will send out a dark void along the ground in front of her. Anyone hit by it in the air will be immediately spiked downwards, and anyone hit by it on the ground will be buried.

Up B: Flying Chair

She will fly upward in her flying throne, which will shoot lasers directly in front of her as an added attack.

Down B: Bat Duplicate

She will create a duplicate of herself as a shield, which will disappear after a second. If it is hit, it will turn into a swarm of bats that will surround the opponent and linger on them for a short period, doing steady damage.

Final Smash: Cackletta's Soul

Cackletta's essence from inside of Bowser will take to the stage, swinging its arms around in a circle the full length of the stage, while shooting lasers from its eyes at any opponent in its line of sight.

Entrance: Lightning will strike and she will appear.

Taunts: Up, she will transform into a bat and fly upward for a second. Side, she will hold out her wand and cackle merrily. Down, she will briefly transform into Bowletta, look down at herself in surprise, and transform back.

The Great and Powerful Fawful thanks you for reading with your eyes about his glorious mistress! Return again the day after this day to learn about the one who calls himself Fawful, or else I shall have FURY!!!

Character Sheet: Massif Bros.

 MASSIF BROS.

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Here's another odd one, though one I don't get irritated trying to read, so, hey, they're fun. The Massif Bros. are a pair of . . . sausages? . . . obsessed with beefing up, and who agree to guide Mario and Luigi up Pi'illo Island's Mount Pajamaja in Dream Team. When you first meet them, you have to beat the elder brother and his crew in combat before they will agree to guide you. In those battles, his minions will punch a rock out of the air toward you, charge at you, bounce across the top of smaller minions called Hooraws, and heal. After them, Big Massif will fight you, using moves similar to those of his minions, but can also increase his rage if the battle goes on too long. Later on the climb up the mountain, he and his brother work together, learning the spin jump and the spin drill along with the Mario bros. All in all, I'd say we have quite a bit to work with.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Block Punch

A block will fall out of the air and the Massif Bros. will punch it, sending it forward as a projectile.

Side B: Spin Drill

The brothers will stack on top of each other and then drill sideways rapidly, just like the Spin Drill move as seen in the game.

Up B: Hooraws

Hooraws will appear underneath them and bounce them upward, as seen in Big Massif's and Thunder Sass's battles.

Down B: Beef Up

This will be kind of a combo of the Bros and their squad's healing moves and the rage meter, in that the Bros will use this move to heal themselves and get a boost to their stats.

Final Smash: Mount Pajamaja OR Beef Off

Two strong possibilities here. Either the dreamy version of Mount Pajamaja will come to life and attack, or the brothers will call in their crew: Sorry Fist, Heavy Zest, Thunder Sass, and Beef Cloud; to launch an all-out attack.

Entrance: They will punch through a rock and shout BEEF!

Taunts: All will be a version of them flexing and shouting "BEEF!" Up will be an overhead flex, Side will be the bicep display flew, and Down will be a crunching ab flex.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll start our villains off with Cackletta.

Character Sheet: Broque Monsieur

 BROQUE MONSIEUR

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. 8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

16. Broque Monsieur

17. Massif Bros.

18. Cackletta

19. Fawful

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Time to get into weird territory. I can already feel the raised eyebrows. Trust me, I raised an eyebrow at myself as the moveset started to come together in my head as I was watching through Bowser's Inside Story and Dream Team, but my rule has always been that if they can make their case to me, I can't say no. So here they are. Technically, this will not just be the merchant with the obnoxiously written accent from Inside Story, but will be a composite of Broque Monsieur, Broque Madame, Boss Brickle, and Britta, each one being a color swap with one alternate color respectively. Broggy and the Blitties will also play into their moveset.

In Inside Story, Broque Monsieur primarily interacts with Bowser, creating blocks and selling them to him to give him added abilities. He expresses an obsession will little block cats called Blitties that Bowser then has to collect. Once he has collected enough, Broque will let Bowser make use of his large block dog Broggy as a special attack. Madame Broque also appears, and asks Bowser to give her a massage by . . . body slamming her back? Eh, whatever she's into, I guess. In Dream Team, we meet more of the Broque species, including Boss Brickle and his crew who are in charge of tending the gardens and fountains around Pi'illo Castle, and Britta, who runs an excavation crew out in the desert. Boss Brickle does a lot of handiwork, but two items of note are the Grobot, a malfunctioning watering robot, and a burst pipe that tends to send people sky high. And then we have Britta, who supplies the brothers with a special device called the drilldigger that they can drive around a track and use to drill and destroy rocks and blockages. Once I saw that, I knew it was over and they were in.

Here's the moveset:

Standard B: Block Maker

This is a move I've been messing with forever with Mario, Luigi, and the Toads, but as it's central to the concept of Broque and his species as a whole, it's only fitting for it to appear here. Broque (et al) will put together an item box and toss it up into the air. At that point, anyone can hit it and a random item will pop out.

Side B: Blitties

Broque will send a line of Blitties forward that will then jump up and tackle any opponent nearby for moderate damage.

Up B: Burst Pipe

This one is largely based on Boss Brickle. A pipe will burst underneath the character, spewing them into the sky and causing water to splash around the stage and do minimal damage.

Down B: Drilldigger

This one is based on Britta and her drilldigger machine. Using this move will make the drilldigger appear under the character and then you can press left or right to make the specific drill slam down, possibly doing damage to two different opponents at a time.

Final Smash: Broggy

Now, I was iffy on placement here. You could put a toned down version of Broggy in the Side B slot, use the Blitties for Standard B, and then use Grobot or the Dreamy Drilldigger as the final smash. As it is, I like the idea of Broque calling out Broggy, at which point Broggy would charge angrily across the stage.

Entrance: I would have the character start out in Broque's stand.

Taunts: Up, they will hold up a Blitty that will wriggle in their hand. Side, Grobot will come out and water the ground, making a flower grow. Down, they will lay down in various ways, Madame laying in her sexy pose.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover another oddball pick, the Massif Bros.

Character Sheet: King Olly

 KING OLLY

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. 7. Thwomp

8. Whomp

9. Mechakoopa

11. Mario & Luigi

12. Prince Peasley

13. Prince Dreambert

14. Olivia

15. King Olly

20. Princess Shroob

21. The Dark Star

22. Antasma

23. Midbus

24. Shroob

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, let's cover King Olly, the main villain of Paper Mario: The Origami King. As he and his sister, your companion Olivia, function more or less on the same basic premise and have largely the same abilities, I have elected to make Olly an echo of Olivia. I imagine he would be a bit harder hitting, given his more evil demeanor, and his final smash will defer a bit, but as far as the rest, he will function in much the same way.

Here's his moveset:

Standard B: Fold

This is more specifically based on him, so, of course, he keeps it.

Side B: 100-Fold Fist

In my opinion, his fists should become hammers to match his boss fight.

Up B: Paper Airplane

Pretty standard here.

Down B: Confetti

Also standard. I think he might use the ribbons in some way, though that might just be in his and Olivia's grabs.

Final Smash: Giant Olly OR Office Supplies

Two schools of thought here. Either we will recreate the final phase of his battle, during which he grows to gigantic size and attacks the stage, OR he will call in his Office Supply minions: Stapler, Scissors, Hole Punch, Rubber Band, Colored Pencils, and Tape; to wreak havoc on the stage similar to Olivia's with the Vellumental beasts.

Entrance: A Smash letter lying on the ground will unfold and then refold itself into King Olly.

Taunts: Up, he will flick his paper combover. Side, he will pull out a piece of paper and fold it into a certain shape. Down, he will fold himself up into an unassuming form, or maybe the Shy Guy he first appeared as.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll fly off the deep end and cover a few really out-there picks, starting with Broque Monsieur and really most major members of his race.

As with Huey and Kersti, Olivia joins us, more or less, as a gimmick rep for Origami King. Although unlike Huey and Kersti, she does have a few distinct battle moves of her own to consider as well. On top of that, she has a brother with a few abilities we might be able to pull from as well. Let's get into it all, shall we?

So, first up, we have the gimmick stuff. Specifically, in the game, making use of origami power, Mario carries around a bag of confetti with which he repairs holes in the world, and he can extend his 100-fold arms to punch or grab things with them. Olivia herself can also transform into each of the four Vellumentals and use their elemental attacks (definite Final Smash fodder). Finally, we have her brother, King Olly, who I felt works best as an echo to his sister, and thus, any of his moves might be considered as well. First up, is the ability to fold his opponents either into shapes they can't fight him with, or into his own personal origami minions. He can also grow gigantic and attack you by folding his own hundred-fold arms into hammers or swords. He can also toss around paper airplanes. I think that's enough.

Here's her moveset:

Standard B: Fold

Given the folding nature of Origami, I felt this was the logical main attack. It will function similarly to Yoshi's Egg Lay attack, in that it will temporarily trap them in a vulnerable state, before they pop out of it again. This vulnerable state will be the square shape Bowser was folded into by Olly.

Side B: 100-Fold Fist

Basically, she'll extend her arms out to ridiculous lengths, clasp her hands together into a fist, and then pound on an enemy with several hits, mirroring the similar Mario move.

Up B: Paper Airplane

Olivia will fold herself into a Paper Airplane and then float up for a bit before coming back down. I imagine it will function similarly to Steve's Elytra move.

Down B: Confetti

She will pull out her confetti bag and toss a burst of confetti pieces into the air, directly into an opponent's face.

Final Smash: Vellumental Rage

First she will split into four copies of herself, with each one unfolding and then refolding into one of the four Vellumentals. The four Vellumentals will then rage across the stage for a few seconds or so.

Entrance: A Smash letter lying on the ground will unfold and then refold itself into Olivia.

Taunts: Up, she will spin up into the air with a burst of confetti. Side, she will wear a paper-macho head and move back . Down, she will fall to the ground in a fit of giggles.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover her slightly more evil brother, King Olly.

Character Sheet: Prince Dreambert

 PRINCE DREAMBERT

Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

Today, let's cover Prince Dreambert, one of your main companions from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and the main source of your dream-based abilities. Naturally, he is the prime pick for the game's gimmick rep, and as such, Dreamy Luigi will also technically be a part of all this too. Dreambert on his own can take on a pillow form, float upwards on a pillow, and he can make use of the dream bunny to drill into Dreams Deep, bounce on the Seadrings, and summon the Zeekeeper. Dreamy Luigi, however, adds a whole new dimension to it. First up, you have the Luiginoids, millions of Luigi clones who act together in various ways, taking on the forms of a stack, cone, or ball, and then ground pounding, spring jumping, spinning, spin jumping, swinging it around like a weapon, and treating it as a hookshot. All of these can work together to form the basis of a number of moves.

Here's his moveset:

Standard B: Luiginoids

While other dream items will make up his A moves and such, I feel the B moves are the perfect place for the Luiginoids (or maybe Dreambertnoids? if we wanted to make it more about Dreambert himself). His regular B will summon more and more Luiginoids to aid him. Without Luiginoids out, he will make use of more ordinary items for weaker attacks.

Side B: Luigi Ball

If he has Luiginoids, he will swing them around in a ball form and smack other players with it. If not, he will simply use a pillow.

Up B: Luigi Stack

With Luiginoids, he will have them stack up underneath him and then perform a spring jump. Without them, he will use a Seadring to perform a similar function.

Down B: Luigi Cone

With Luiginoids, he will form them into a cone shape and then spin them rapidly, doing heavy damage to those too close. Without Luiginoids, he will use a dream bunny as a much weaker drill.

Final Smash: Zeekeeper

He will toss the Zeekeeper Egg into the sky, and then the Zeekeeper will fly back down and ram through the stage.

Entrance: He will appear out of a dream portal.

Taunts: Up, he will spin upwards with a flourish of his cape and a ring of sparkles. Side, he will simply laugh his amazing, pore-cleansing laugh. Down, he will lay down and take up his pillow form.

Today, we're going to cover Prince Peasley, the dashing bishonen supporting character from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. At the start of the game, you learn he's gone missing from the Beanbean Kingdom. You follow his trail to a fearsome dragon, who you discover upon defeating is the missing prince cursed by Cackletta. After that, he becomes a solid supporting character, showing up at important moments and helping you out. He doesn't have too much to work with, but drawing from his own appearances, his fight as a dragon, and his family members Queen Bean and Lady Lima, he has just enough. First off, he often appears on a flying pillow, tosses roses and flicks his hair in a dashing manner, and carries around a rapier that he uses to attack. His mother, also under a curse can spit out beans as projectiles, and given the whole bean thing the game had going on, it's not too much of a stretch. And of course we have his Dragohoho form, which can spit out Hoho Blocks and the Hoho Stone at you.

Here's his moveset:

Standard B: Bean Toss

Peasley will spin dramatically and toss out a bean, or in some cases a Beanie enemy, which will act as a light projectile.

Side B: Rapier Slash

His rapier will clearly be a constant part of his moveset, but this move will by one quick series of flurries, slashing hard at the opponent and racking up lots of damage.

Up B: Winged Pillow

I guess this one's pretty obvious. He will hop onto his winged pillow, which will carry him upwards. Another strong possibility is Blablanadon grabbing him and carrying him up, but I felt the Pillow was more personal to him.

Down B: Hoho Stone

Peasley will drop the Hoho Stone, which will act as a heavy weight that will do damage to anyone it lands on. Good for spiking.

Final Smash: Dragohoho

Basically, Peasley will transform into Dragohoho and rampage across the stage quickly.

Entrance: He will fly in on his flying pillow.

Taunts: Up, he will run his hand through his hair and smile with a sparkle. Side, he will spin dashingly, sniff a rose, and toss it to the side (doing light damage). Down, he will pat a Beanie on the head.

 MARIO & LUIGI

Today, we begin our newcomers. 26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, we'll be covering Mario and Luigi. Now, I know, I know, we already have a Mario and a Luigi and several other variants in between. Isn't it a bit extraneous to just have them both working as a pair. So, I guess to be more specific, this is Mario & Luigi as they appear in the Mario and Luigi RPG series, with moves based entirely on their tag-team abilities in those games, and stylized to look like the game series' distinct style. Their star companion Starlow will also be a technical third member of the team, as she will fly around them and appear in a number of moves and taunts.

Across the games, the brothers have a butt-ton of moves to work with, and I will do my best to sort them out for you. They have base moves like jumping and swinging their hammers, and they can also use hand-abilities like shooting fireballs and lightning. They can switch around which brother is in the front, which can then affect which abilities they can perform. For instance, with Mario behind Luigi, he can put fire to Luigi's back and make him run faster. But in the reverse way, Luigi can electrify and paralyze Mario and pull him backwards. They can also perform various jumps, like the Spin Jump to spin on top of each other, or the high jump to bounce off of each other. They can also either smack each other with a hammer to make them tiny and then smack them around like a ball, or bury them underground at which point they can then pop up under an item or unsuspecting enemy. They also have a ton of Super-Moves to be used in battle, any one of which can be utilized as the "Final Smash." Honestly, it's a take-your-pick on that one.

Here's the moveset I've come up with:

Standard B: Fire Bros. OR Thunder Bros.

My concept for them is almost two separate movesets. Pressing Down B will switch whichever brother is up front, and then they will have different moves across the board. Much like Min Min, A and B will function to control the different brothers in that state, A controlling the one up front, so that his Standard A move will utilize his fire or lightning as a mere projectile, but the B will control the one in the back. With Mario in the back, he will light a fireball on Luigi, giving him a boost of speed. Luigi in the back will let him freeze up Mario and move him around as a human shield and give them added defense.

Side B: Ball Bros. OR Dig Bros.

Side A will make use of the brothers' hammers, just swinging them around with little difference. Side B, however, if Luigi is in the back, he will smack and shorten Mario and then smack him in the butt, sending him flying forward as a ball. If Mario is in the back, he will send Luigi straight into the ground. Luigi will stay that way until you press up, at which point he will fly up out of the ground, striking any walking over him.

Up B: Spin Jump OR High Jump

If Luigi is in the back, he will jump up on top of Mario and the pair will spin in the famous spin jump. If you just press the command, they will raise and spin side to side, though you can make them fly upward with another upward press, or send them into a side drill with a sideways press. If Mario is in the back, Luigi will pull out a spring cap and let Mario hop on top of him and send him flying skyward.

Down B: Switch Bros.

Basically, this will just switch them.

Final Smash: Bros. Attack

Honestly, there are soooooooo many fitting for a final for them, and I honestly have no idea which to pick from the large number of them. So, my stance is, pick your favorite. I have a few, like the one where they fire a bunch of fireballs into a massive meteor that then slams down on the enemy, or the one where they hop into a bunch of pipes and fire them off. It's possible it could be different based on who's in front like the other moves. Whichever you pick.

Entrance: They'll rise from the ground in one of those big pipes with the two sets of footprints on them.

Taunts: Most of their victory poses are fun. Up could be their victory screen with them punching the air and saying "Go Weegee, Go Weegee." Side could have Starlow fly around them and pull at Luigi's mustache. Down, could have both brothers fall asleep and Starlow float around them like she can't believe they're sleeping at a time like this.

25. Popple

26. Durmite/Wisdurm

Today, let's cover Nabbit, a trickster rabbit originating in New Super Mario Bros. U and has since become a bit of a staple of the series, including, for our purposes today, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, where I'm halfway convinced he was switched out for Popple in the final stages because of Miyamoto's whole anti-complex-stories-and-characters thing. In Paper Jam, he will steal things and run away with them, as per usual, toss out spike balls to hinder his pursuers, burrow underground, create duplicates of himself, throw his bag as a projectile, and use stolen items, either offensively on his own or to help occasional allies. Some items from New Super Mario Bros. U might be considered as well.

Here is his moveset:

Standard B: Steal

He will grab any items nearby or any projectiles coming at him and stash them in his bag. He can then pull them out again for his own usage.

Side B: Spin and Throw

He will spin around with his bag really fast and throw it as a projectile. The amount of items stashed inside will affect the amount of damage done.

Up B: Baby Yoshi

This one is more based specifically on New Super Mario Bros. U and makes use of the Baby Yoshis that appeared there. Specifically, he will use its inflato-ability, causing the baby to inflate and carry him high into the sky.

Down B: Spike

He will pull out a pair of spiky rocks, tossing one to either side of him. They will stick in the ground and damage anyone who touches them.

Final Smash: Invulnerability

He will temporarily become incapable of taking damage at all and gain a boost of speed, allowing him to run around doling out damage and picking up as many items as possible.

Entrance: He will pop out of a burrow.

Taunts: Up, he will hop up and down excitedly. Side, he will put his hand over his eyes and look back and forth. Down, he will open his bag and inspect the contents.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we begin the RPG specific characters, starting with the tag-team of Mario & Luigi.
