DURMITE/WISDURM
Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.
1. Toadsworth
2. Captain Toad
3. Buzzy Beetle
4. King Bob-Omb
5. Pokey
6. Ninji
7. Thwomp
8. Whomp
9. Mechakoopa
10. Nabbit
11. Mario & Luigi
12. Prince Peasley
13. Prince Dreambert
14. Olivia
15. King Olly
16. Broque Monsieur
17. Massif Bros.
18. Cackletta
19. Fawful
20. Princess Shroob
21. The Dark Star
22. Antasma
23. Midbus
24. Shroob
25. Popple
26. Durmite/Wisdurm
I wasn't going to include this one, as, even though the character had a bunch of moves, she didn't feel like an important enough character to include (similar to the Massif Bros. in this same batch), but then upon further reflection, I remembered Jonathan Jones, and Rawk Hawk, and Francis, all with an arguably smaller role than she did, and I really didn't have much of a case. Durmite is a strange parasitic worm the brothers discover inside of Bowser's body that they have to fight off, only to later discover that she is in fact a fairy guarding one of the Star Cures needed to defeat Fawful, and was transformed into a bug in order to get at the Cure.
She has three different forms, her bigger blue worm form Durmite, her tiny pink fairy form Wisdurm, and her pink worm form somewhere in between. I figure all three will be present, at least as color swaps but will still generally fight the same way. Across your various battles with her, she attacks you in various ways, including charging at you, sucking things up through a straw, eating enemies with her Birdo-like mouth, spit webs and swing around on them, get bigger, drop a giant heart crystal out of the sky on someone, shoot stars with her magic wand, and shrink you down. Definitely plenty to work with for me. Let's see what we can do.
Here's the moveset I came up with:
Standard B: Crystal Heart
She will wave her wand around, summoning a large crystal heart into the air a little bit in front of her and letting it slam down on anything beneath it.
Side B: Star Stream/Web Stream
This functions on the same principle, but appears differently in different battles. In one form, she shoots a string of web and sweeps it back and forth. In another, it's a stream of stars but acts much the same. This would play out on the smash stage as well.
Up B: Web Swing
She would spit a string up into the air, let it latch onto something, and then swing upwards the way she does in the game.
Down B: Straw
She would stick someone with her straw from the game and begin draining health from them for as long as she can hold them. This would restore her own health as well.
Final Smash: True Form
She would revert to her true form of Wisdurm, wave her wand into the air, making Star Cures appear in the air behind her, and then she cast a spell across the entire stage, causing every fighter to shrink down to minuscule size.
Entrance: She'd wriggle her way up from the underground.
Taunts: Up, she would wiggle her wand-tail around. Side, she would curl up and snooze for a second. Down, she would flare her snout and get angry for a second.
Thanks for reading! Next up, let's go over our rosters once again!
