BROQUE MONSIEUR
Today, we begin our newcomers. I did say going into this that the RPGs would likely be the last shot for many of the frequent enemies you wouldn't expect to see on a Smash roster, but what I didn't expect was that the RPGs would actually come through for a lot of them. At least one I thought was never going to happen in a million, billion years. But here we are. The first ten are all Mario regulars who finally took the step up to playable. The other sixteen are originals to the Mario & Luigi games (or Origami King) specifically.

Time to get into weird territory. I can already feel the raised eyebrows. Trust me, I raised an eyebrow at myself as the moveset started to come together in my head as I was watching through Bowser's Inside Story and Dream Team, but my rule has always been that if they can make their case to me, I can't say no. So here they are. Technically, this will not just be the merchant with the obnoxiously written accent from Inside Story, but will be a composite of Broque Monsieur, Broque Madame, Boss Brickle, and Britta, each one being a color swap with one alternate color respectively. Broggy and the Blitties will also play into their moveset.
In Inside Story, Broque Monsieur primarily interacts with Bowser, creating blocks and selling them to him to give him added abilities. He expresses an obsession will little block cats called Blitties that Bowser then has to collect. Once he has collected enough, Broque will let Bowser make use of his large block dog Broggy as a special attack. Madame Broque also appears, and asks Bowser to give her a massage by . . . body slamming her back? Eh, whatever she's into, I guess. In Dream Team, we meet more of the Broque species, including Boss Brickle and his crew who are in charge of tending the gardens and fountains around Pi'illo Castle, and Britta, who runs an excavation crew out in the desert. Boss Brickle does a lot of handiwork, but two items of note are the Grobot, a malfunctioning watering robot, and a burst pipe that tends to send people sky high. And then we have Britta, who supplies the brothers with a special device called the drilldigger that they can drive around a track and use to drill and destroy rocks and blockages. Once I saw that, I knew it was over and they were in.
Here's the moveset:
Standard B: Block Maker
This is a move I've been messing with forever with Mario, Luigi, and the Toads, but as it's central to the concept of Broque and his species as a whole, it's only fitting for it to appear here. Broque (et al) will put together an item box and toss it up into the air. At that point, anyone can hit it and a random item will pop out.
Side B: Blitties
Broque will send a line of Blitties forward that will then jump up and tackle any opponent nearby for moderate damage.
Up B: Burst Pipe
This one is largely based on Boss Brickle. A pipe will burst underneath the character, spewing them into the sky and causing water to splash around the stage and do minimal damage.
Down B: Drilldigger
This one is based on Britta and her drilldigger machine. Using this move will make the drilldigger appear under the character and then you can press left or right to make the specific drill slam down, possibly doing damage to two different opponents at a time.
Final Smash: Broggy
Now, I was iffy on placement here. You could put a toned down version of Broggy in the Side B slot, use the Blitties for Standard B, and then use Grobot or the Dreamy Drilldigger as the final smash. As it is, I like the idea of Broque calling out Broggy, at which point Broggy would charge angrily across the stage.
Entrance: I would have the character start out in Broque's stand.
Taunts: Up, they will hold up a Blitty that will wriggle in their hand. Side, Grobot will come out and water the ground, making a flower grow. Down, they will lay down in various ways, Madame laying in her sexy pose.
Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover another oddball pick, the Massif Bros.
