Yoshi's Island Series Roster

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE
YOSHI'S ISLAND ROSTER

Today, let's create an entirely separate roster for the Yoshi series. This one will be significantly smaller, as the Yoshi series is much more heavily tied to the Mario series than the Donkey Kong series is, but still enough to warrant its own roster.

1. Yoshi
2. Yarn Yoshi
3. Baby Mario
4. Baby Bowser
5. Kamek
6. Shy Guy
7. Bandit
8. Ukiki

That's it for now, though there are a few I suspect might get added when I get around to the RPGs, but for now, an eight-man roster is not too shabby. A Mario series navigation would appear directly after Ukiki on the roster.

Thanks for reading! Next week, let's cover all the "miscellaneous" Yoshi games, starting with . . . Yoshi. Huh.

Super Mario Bros. Series Roster, Updated

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE
SUPER MARIO BROS. ROSTER

Today, let's do as we did with the Donkey Kong series, and split off all those connected more to Yoshi's Island to form its own roster, with a navigation option at the end of the Mario roster, immediately following the Donkey Kong navigation option. Here's what it looks like now.

1. Mario
2. Fursuit Mario
3. F.L.U.D.D. Mario
4. Luigi
5. Princess Peach
6. Princess Daisy
7. Rosalina and Luma
8. Cappy
9. Toad
9e. Toadette

12. Bowser Jr.
13. Shadow Mario
14. The Koopalings
15. Pauline
16. Wart
17. Tatanga
18. Captain Syrup

On a character select screen, a DK Series and Yoshi Series Roster navigation selections would be available immediately between the Broodals and the random option.

Next up, let's see the Yoshi series!

Character Sheet: Chain Chomp (Yoshi Main Series)

CHAIN CHOMP

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Today, I am proud to announce that the Chain Chomp has finally stepped up and taken his proper place in the Smash roster. Congratulations, buddy! I was pulling for you. Alright, well, you know it, you love it, it's the iconic enemy that combines a vicious guard dog with a ball and chain to create a fairly formidable obstacle in Mario's, or in this case, Yoshi's path.

For most games, the Chain Chomp has been known for mainly one thing, lunging at you really fast until it is stopped by its chain. In the Galaxy games, they tended to roll around all over the place, and in Sunshine, they often lit themselves on fire, but nothing enough to warrant a character slot. Now, at long last, the first Yoshi's Island game alone gave me enough to work with. First off, is the chomp rocks, heavy items based on Chomps that Yoshi would use to move around here and there. Then at several points in the game, we saw Chomps bouncing up and down to cause earthquakes. Then at other times, we saw them launching themselves from the background, high into the air, before coming down to eat parts of the level. Then finally, we had the Chomp Shark, a gigantic chomp that chased Yoshi through the level, eating the map behind him.

Let's see what we can do:

Standard B: Lunge
This one is the Chain Chomp's most iconic move. The Chomp would start to pull back slowly as long as you hold the button, and would suddenly launch forward at top speed to bite at any opponents, only stopping at the full length of its chain at the point of the move's start.

Side B: Chomp Rock
So, once upon a time, I saw a video where a modder created a Chain Chomp as an echo of Piranha Plant (one of the main reasons I was pulling for the character), but I didn't want to just settle on the character as an echo. That felt cheap and lazy to me. However, I will take inspiration from that idea and have the Chomp Rock move act similarly to Piranha's Ptooie move, with the Chomp spitting it out at opponents.

Up B: Incoming Chomp
This one is based on the Incoming Chomp appearance in the first Yoshi's Island game, though altered a bit to fit Smash. For instance, rather than leaping from the background to the foreground as in the game, the Chomp will simply jump straight up from where he is. Also, although he will come facedown and biting, he will not eat through the stage. (We'll save that for later).

Down B: Earthquake
This one is based on the Chomps appearance bouncing up and down and shaking the stage, which is exactly what the move shall do.

Final Smash: Chomp Shark
Chain Chomp will jump off the stage and reappear as a massive Chomp Shark, which will then chomp across the stage, eating the bottom level and any opponent it catches.

Entrance: It appears stuck to a peg in the ground. The peg will disappear into the ground three segments at a time, at which point the Chomp will break free.

Taunts: Bouncing around and biting the way he does. The famous barking sound.

Thanks for reading! Now that we're finished, let's rearrange our rosters again.

Character Sheet: Ukiki (Yoshi Main Series)

UKIKI

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Ukikis are a bit of an interesting story here. So, the enemy first appeared in the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island under the name Grinders. Then, a monkey named Ukiki appeared in Super Mario 64, famous for hanging around Tall, Tall Mountain and stealing your hat. Then when the Grinders reappeared in Yoshi's Island DS, their name had been changed to Ukiki and have been referred to as such ever since. I don't know if Ukiki of 64 fame was always supposed to be a Grinder, or if that was more of a retroactive change, but either way, they have enough presence across the Mario and Yoshi series to warrant inclusion.

In most Yoshi games, the Ukikis or Grinders will bounce in place waiting for you to approach before running away. They also hang from vines and drop bombs on you, and frequently eat watermelon to spit seeds at you. In Crafted World, they also gain a larger cousin called Uckykongs. In Super Mario 64, Ukiki will also steal your stuff and leap high into the air to avoid you. Yeah, I can make something out of this.

Here's what we've got so far:

Standard B: Thief
Ukiki will reach out and steal a cosmetic item from an opponent. This will not impact gameplay, though it will make them more susceptible to damage. For instance, he can take Mario's hat or Samus's helmet. Things like that.

Side B: Watermelon Seeds
Ukiki will dig into some watermelon, chewing it up before spitting the seeds out at his opponents like projectiles.

Up B: Monkey Jump
Ukiki will jump ridiculously high into the air, the way he does when Mario tries to capture him in Super Mario 64.

Down B: Bomb Drop
For this move, Ukiki will leap into the air and cling to a vine, dropping a bomb behind him the way he does in the Yoshi's Island games. A needlenose might also work.

Final Smash: The Chimp
This one is more based on a similar character appearing in the Mario games, the Chimp from Super Mario Galaxy. A number of Ukikis will fill the trees behind the stage while the Chimp hops onto the stage, doing a backflip and clapping to produce a number of stars that will then bombard the stage. I know it's a little off, but this was the only move I was struggling with.

Entrance: Just bouncing in place the way he normally does.

Taunt: His iconic screech from 64, sitting and eating a watermelon, so on.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover the Chain Chomp!

Character Sheet: Bandit (Yoshi Main Series)

BANDIT

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Today, let's get into the brand-new enemy characters from the Yoshi series. First up is the Bandit, a Shy Guy-esque enemy with a penchant for stealing things, most importantly the babies Yoshi carries on his back. This enemy actually doesn't appear that much throughout the series, only really in the first Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS, but he certainly makes an impression in both.

In the first game, they appear trying to steal your baby here and there, but one also appears in a number of minigames, tossing around a giant pink ball or racing you to pop the most balloons. What also boosts the Bandit's chances is the existence of a number of enemies sharing his body type and characteristics, but doing different things. These include the Green Glove, who catches thrown projectiles and throws them back; the Slugger who bats away thrown projectiles; Zeus Guy, who throws lightning; and the Grunt, who wears a spiky hat on his head.

Let's see what we can do with all that:

Standard B: Green Glove
This one is based on the Green Glove enemy and also the Bandit's penchant for stealing items. He will grab a projectile and will then be able to fire it back at any opponent. This works similarly to Villager's Pocket move.

Side B: Zeus Guy
The Bandit will charge up a bolt of electricity that he will then throw superfast at an enemy. The bolt will explode on impact.

Up B: Balloon
This is based upon his mini-games in the first Yoshi's Island. He will pull out a balloon, that he will then hop on top of, popping it and launching himself into the air.

Down B: Slugger
This one is more of a shielding move. If simply tapped, he will hold out a bat that will bounce an oncoming attack off of it, but if held down, it becomes a counter move as he swings the bat to knock out the oncoming enemy.

Final Smash: Stock Thief OR Move Thief
My idea for this one functions one of two ways. One possibility (Stock Thief), is that when activated, the bandit will hop off the stage, appearing at the front of the screen and giving the viewers a sneaky eyebrow before taking one stock from each player besides himself. Another possibility (Move Thief) is that he will run around the stage quickly, picking the pockets of every character and "stealing" their standard B move, meaning that that move will be deactivated for a short time. He will then be holding above his head an emblem of that move (i.e. a fire flower for Mario's, etc.) and the players will have to chase him down in order to get the move back.

Entrance: Popping out from behind a corner, with a sneaky look.

Taunts: A sneaky eyebrow wiggle for sure, maybe crouching and looking around.

Thanks for reading! Next time we'll cover Ukiki the monkey!

Character Sheet: Baby Bowser (Yoshi Main Series)

BABY BOWSER

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Today, we'll cover Baby Bowser, who alongside Kamek acts as the main villain of the series and appears in all four games covered so far. In most of his battles, his abilities tend to consist of jumping up and stomping to shake the ground and spit fireballs, before growing gigantic and being able to drop rocks from the ceiling. In Yoshi's Story, he could ride around on green ghostly enemies whose only name apparently is Bowser's Pets. He can also kick up lava spouts on occasion, and in Yoshi's Woolly World, he can throw balls of yarn as well. In Crafted World, he pilots the "Great King Bowser," from which he can throw stars or smack with a giant hammer.

Let's see what we can do:

Standard B: Fire Breath
This is similar to Bowser's Standard B, except that the baby version spits a single fireball in a straight line, as presented in most of the Yoshi games.

Side B: Bowser's Pet
One of his ghostly pets will spawn, wiggling across the stage while he can just let them fly or hop on top and ride them.

Up B: Super Jump
This is based on the massive jump and ground pound seen in most of his games. Bowser has something like this too for his Down B, but I figure the baby's smaller size gives him higher distance.

Down B: Rock Fall
This one is similar to Pikachu's in a sense. Baby Bowser will stomp on the ground really hard, hard enough to knock loose a rock from somewhere above the stage, causing it to fall and hit any character below it.

Final Smash: Giant Bowser
While the Great King Bowser might have worked, I feel Baby Bowser's giant form is more true to his appearances across all of the games. Baby Bowser will grow gigantic and slowly approach the stage from the background, spewing meteors from his mouth.

Entrance: A Toady will carry him in inside of a wrapped sheet.

Taunt: Just general brattiness works well for the character, maybe crying because he's not getting his way, maybe insulting opponents the way he did his older self.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover the Bandit enemy!

Character Sheet: Baby Mario (Yoshi Main Series)

BABY MARIO

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

This one is going to be more of a conglomerate character, just like the Koopalings or Timber. I suppose you could call it Mario Babies instead, but as Mario will be the face of the slot, I'm giving its name to him. The other color swaps include, in order: Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Baby Wario, Baby Waluigi, and Baby Donkey Kong. These all have the same moveset as none of the babies had quite enough to work off of, but together they did.

Baby Mario is the main baby we see throughout the games, almost a constant presence in the Yoshi series riding on Yoshis back and helping out on occasion. Baby Luigi appears in most as well, but is generally the "damsel in distress" character. In Yoshi's Island DS, Baby Peach, Baby Donkey Kong, and Baby Wario also appear with distinct abilities. All of them can float around in a bubble and cry loudly enough to get the attention of Kamek's minions. Baby Mario can run super fast with his cape and can float either with said cape or with his diaper. Baby Peach lends her parasol to allow Yoshi to fly great distances. Baby Donkey Kong can cling to vines and charge forward through obstacles. Finally, Baby Wario carries around a giant magnet that he can use to draw in gold and metal objects.

Here's what I came up with:

Standard B: Super Cape
The baby will whip its golden cape in a similar move to Mario's current Side B. This works much more for Baby Mario, as the cape appears in almost all of Baby Mario's appearances.

Side B: Baby DK Charge
The baby will thrust their shoulder forward and barrel across the stage, knocking into opponents. This is based on Baby DK's main ability in the DS game.

Up B: Baby Peach Parasol
The baby will pull out Peach's parasol that she uses in the DS game, while a strong wind will blow based on the winds from the same game, and carry the baby high into the air.

Down B: Baby Wario Magnet
The baby will pull out Wario's giant magnet from the DS game, which will then pull all items in the area toward them for as long as they have it out.

Final Smash: Temper Tantrum
While giving it to Baby Mario with his full Super Cape activated is tempting, with it acting similarly to Sonic's Super Sonic move, I thought I'd get a bit more creative. Instead, I thought all eight babies might appear on stage, floating in bubbles, and all crying at the top of their lungs. While the noise will be distracting, after a few seconds, a number of Toadies will swoop in, grabbing all playable characters and babies except the currently playable one and carry them all offscreen.

Entrance: The stork will arrive at a Stork Stop, with the baby in question hopping out of the carrier.

Taunts: Rolling around and being cute. Waving a rattle around. Floating in a bubble for a second.

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover the odd baby out, Baby Bowser!

Character Sheet: Yarn Yoshi (Yoshi Main Series)

YARN YOSHI

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Yarn Yoshi is Yoshi's incarnation in the game Yoshi's Woolly World. In the game, the developers got creative and, rather than simply making him more or less Yoshi just made out of other stuff like in Yoshi's Crafted World, they gave him his own entire moveset and abilities linked to everything being made out of yarn.

For instance, instead of eating enemies, Yoshi will unravel them and then pop them out as balls of yarn, rather than eggs. When he throws the balls of yarn, they will frequently tie up the enemy they are shot at instead of insta-killing them. He can also unravel sections of the stage, or throw balls of yarn at an empty frame to create a new platform. He could also spin around a spool in order to launch himself to a new area, and he could unravel to go down pipes. Transformations he could perform in this mode included an umbrella, a bicycle, a mole, an airplane, and a mermaid. For some Crafted Yoshi representation, the giant mechanical Yoshi you can drive there can work as a potential final smash.

Let's see what we can do:

Standard B: Unravel
Yoshi will eat an opponent, unraveling them into strings before popping them out as balls of yarn. They will knit back into their regular forms after a second or two.

Side B: Tie Up
Yoshi will throw a ball of yarn at an opponent, which will then unravel and bind itself around the enemy, trapping them for a brief time.

Up B: Spool
Yoshi will unravel and zip around a spool that will appear in the air. You can charge the move, during which Yoshi will spin around and around the spool, picking up speed, which will then determine the distance you will fly when you let go.

Down B: Mole
Yoshi will knit himself into a mole-tank shape which will then burrow underground and can come up a short distance away under another opponent.

Final Smash: Yoshi Tank
Yoshi will hop into the giant Yoshi tank from Yoshi's Crafted World, which will then roll around the stage, knocking into everything and anything.

Entrance: Yoshi will knit together from five bundles matching his color palette.

Taunts: Possibly changing color to reflect an opponent (sort of like that Mario-color Yarn Yoshi. You know the one). Beyond that, just general Yoshi cuteness works.

Thanks for reading! Tomorrow we'll cover Baby Mario (or more specifically, all the babies but Bowser).

Character Sheet: Monty Mole (Yoshi Main Series)

MONTY MOLE

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Now, for the last of our revisions! Today, we'll be covering Monty Mole, who only had one singular appearance in the whole series, that being Yoshi's Woolly World, where the game developers got creative with the wrapping paper used to make several levels by having Monties dig around underneath in a pop out by tearing it. They even had a boss version. In this, they tend to roll up into balls and roll down the wrapping paper once they pop out.

Not much moveset differences, but here's what it looks like:

Standard B: Bob-Omb

Side B: Bullet Bill

Up B: Pop Up

Down B: Tuck In

Final Smash: Monty Tank

Entrance: Pop out of a hole in the side of a cliff (or wrapping paper).

Taunts: Crouch down inside the tank and glance around. Maybe make his little squeak noise.

Next up: We'll start in on our new characters with Yarn Yoshi!

Friday, February 21, 2020

Character Sheet: Lakitu and Spinies (Yoshi Main Series)

LAKITU AND SPINIES

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

The Lakitu enemy appears frequently throughout the Yoshi series, both in its regular form riding around on a cloud, but also just as frequently poking their heads out from holes in the wall to try and snipe you. They also have targeting crosshairs much as Yoshi does.

Here is his moveset again:

Standard B: Spiny
Maybe with the targeting crosshairs.

Side B: Fishing Rod

Up B: Cloud Poof

Down B: Lightning

Final Smash: Lakithunder

Entrance: Floats down from above with its iconic sound.

Taunts: We haven't covered the Mario Kart series yet, but it's 3-2-1 opening makes a lot of sense, or maybe waving the flag at the end of a lap. Also tucking down behind his cloud and shifting his eyes back and forth for a second. Maybe pulling out a camera and checking its quality?

Next up: Let's finish up our revisions with Monty Mole!

Thursday, February 20, 2020

Character Sheet: Blooper (Yoshi Main Series)

BLOOPER

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Bloopers don't usually pop up in the Yoshi series of games, except for a brief appearance in Yoshi's New Island, I believe it was. Either way, not much to see, and they acted pretty basic.

Here is the moveset:

Standard B: Ink

Side B: Surf

Up B: Inkjet

Down B: Tentacle Slap

Final Smash: Gooper Blooper

Entrance: Maybe float onto the stage, referencing how they can fly in The Lost Levels.

Taunts: Ink a little the way they do in Mario Kart. Wave a tentacle around. Float upward in the same animation from the original games.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover the Lakitu enemy!

Wednesday, February 19, 2020

Character Sheet: Boo (Yoshi Main Series)

BOO

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

This one's going to be pretty quick too. Boos have a few scattered appearances throughout the series, most of which are fairly basic Boo appearances, except that they have a tendency to wear blindfolds and follow you around based on the amount of sound you're making. There are also a few Boo boss battles, most of which deal with them being invisible in some way.

Here is their updated moveset:

Standard B: Obake Candlestick

Side B: Bomb Boo

Up B: Boo String

Down B: Vanish

Final Smash: Roulette

Entrance: Appears out of nowhere

Taunts: Just the basic cover-your-face animation. That screech of theirs needs to be included too. When they flash and show off a blue coin for sure.

Next up: Let's cover the Bloopers!

Tuesday, February 18, 2020

Character Sheet: Piranha Plant (Yoshi Main Series)

PIRANHA PLANT

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Piranha Plants are an interesting case for the Yoshi series. They appear throughout, in pretty much every game, but they have a completely different look and feel to them that then remains the same throughout the series, almost like you have a Mario series Piranha and a Yoshi series Piranha. These versions hang out outside of pots or pipes and are constantly chomping, following your movements with their heads. There are also a few alternate types of Piranha, such as a prickly kind that spits projectiles at you, and a winged blue ghostly version that flies around a set path. There are also a few bosses throughout, such as Naval Piranha and Bungee Piranha, which normally have additional tendrils and lots and lots of vines everywhere.

Here's what we've got so far:

Standard B: Fireball

Side B: Ptooie
Also kind of doubles as representation for the projectile spitting kind, I guess.

Up B: Fly
Can kind of represent Hootie the Blue Fish, I guess. Same basic principle.

Down B: Paint
Gonna keep it

Final Smash: Naval Piranha
Naval Piranha appears behind the stage, her vines spreading across every single platform and binding the characters touching the ground. She will then spew Nipper spores across the stage.

Entrance: Pops out of a pipe.

Taunts: Chomping around the way he does. Doing the iconic up and down movement. Maybe the sleep animation.

Next up: Let's cover Boo!

Character Sheet: Goomba (Yoshi Main Series)

GOOMBA

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Not much to say here. Goombas appear in a couple of the games here, but not all of them, and their appearances are pretty forgettable overall. Just basic Goomba stuff.

Here is the moveset again:

Standard B: Goom Spear

Side B: Kuribo's Shoe

Up B: Paragoomba

Down B: Stack Up

Final Smash: Goomboss

Entrance: Pops out of chestnut shell.

Taunts: The little hop around and squeak from Super Mario 64 for sure.

Next up: Let's check out Piranha Plant.

Character Sheet: Shy Guy (Yoshi Main Series)

SHY GUY

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

At long last, we leave the shadow of Super Mario Bros. 2, and see the Shy Guys where they really shine. The Yoshi series adopted the Shy Guys as their main common enemy, and they soon proved to be remarkably versatile, demonstrating a number of skills all across the board, some applicable to Smash, and some more cosmetic in nature. Let's get into it.

Throughout the six games, the Shy Guys are shown to fly with propellers, walk around on stilts, throw bombs, carry around a spear and shield, swing a mace around in a circle, crank a machine to pull up and drop a larger mace, bounce on pogo sticks, carry a limbo stick, drive a pirate ship, descend through the air on umbrellas or balloons, bounce, copy your movements, wield knitting needles, ride unicycles, throw surikens, and glide on gliders. They also have fat, flaming, ghost, giant, and metal forms, and their cousin, the Snifit, appears as well.

Here is their current moveset:

Standard B: Snifit
I'm keeping this one exactly as is. It seems to me the best and most iconic basic move to include, though we might switch out the pellet shooting for the fire breath.

Side B: Mace
The Shy Guy will pull out a mace and spin it around in a circle really fast, damaging anyone hit by it and throwing it in a random direction as a projectile.

Up B: Fly Guy OR Pogo Stick
Fly Guy is probably more iconic, but I felt the pogo stick worked really well as well. As Fly Guy, a propeller would appear and carry the Shy Guy high into the air, but as Pogo Stick, he would bounce on the ground and spring into the air.

Down B: Spear and Shield
The Shy Guy will produce a spear and shield, holding up and hiding behind the shield to protect from projectiles while holding out the spear, which will damage any who try to get too close.

Final Smash: Pirate Ship
At the moment, this is the best one I've got, but I want General Guy to be the one eventually. A pirate ship carried by balloons and manned by Shy Guys will appear, circling the stage and firing cannonballs at the fighters.

Entrance: Drifts to the ground via parasol.

Taunts: A number of their appearances playing around in the background of various games offers up a number of possibilities.

Next up: Let's cover the Goombas.

Character Sheet: Koopa Troopa (Yoshi Main Series)

KOOPA TROOPA

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Today's going to be pretty short and sweet. Koopas appear as occasional enemies throughout the Yoshi games and they act pretty much just like Koopas. The only major difference I can think of is that in Yoshi's Woolly World, their shells are buttons, which is frickin' adorable, but not really applicable to anything here.

Here is the character's moveset:

Standard B: Shell Projectile

Side B: Shell Spin

Up B: Paratroopa

Down B: Shell Tuck

Final Smash: King Koopa

Entrance: Starts out in his shell, before emerging using the standard animation

Taunts: Giving a thumbs up and making the iconic Koopa sound, stepping outside of his shell and looking it over while in his underwear, maybe sleeping like a Snooza Koopa.

Next up: Let's cover Yoshi's most common enemy, the Shy Guy!

Character Sheet: Kamek (Yoshi Main Series)

KAMEK

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Kamek the Magikoopa appears as the main villain (sorta shared with Baby Bowser) throughout nearly all of the Yoshi series, the one exception here being Yoshi's Story for some reason. Basically, Kamek is Baby Bowser's nanny who learned of a prophecy that the babies Mario and Luigi would someday cause trouble for his ward, and sent his minions to abduct and dispose of them while they were being brought by the stork. (Don't you just love cutesy, whimsical stories about infanticide?)

Kamek's role in the games is normally pretty basic, appearing at the start of every boss battle to cast a spell on a basic enemy in order to turn it into a giant or otherwise mutate it in some way. He is seen flying on his broom most of the time and sometimes tries to sweep across the screen to hit Yoshi. In some games, he is his own boss fight, teleporting and casting damaging spells at you. In New Island, he carries around a giant hammer to whack basic enemies with to turn into giants rather than just using his regular spell. In Woolly World, he could transform Yoshis into bundles of yarn, and in Crafted World, he pilots his own mech.

Here's his moveset:

Standard B: Magic Spell
Combining this with his previous Down B, as they were basically the same maneuver. He will cast a spell that, when connecting with an opponent, will do damage, but when it connects with an item will transform it into an enemy (I like Buzzy Beetle for it).

Side B: Broomstick
Kept the same.

Up B: Teleport
Kept the same.

Down B: Hammer
He will whip out his magical hammer and smash an opponent with it, doing damage but also causing some type of status effect as well.

Final Smash: Boss Battle
Casts his enlarging spell upon himself, making himself a giant. He will then tromp around the stage, casting spells everywhere.

Entrance: Swoop in on his broom and do his little chuckle.

Taunts: Hold up his wand and wave it around for a second, is a good one. His chuckle, as mentioned before. Maybe cast a little magic and surprise himself.

Next up: Let's go over the Koopa Troopa enemies.

Character Sheet: Bowser (Yoshi Main Series)

BOWSER

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

I think we can get this one done pretty quick. Bowser (as an adult. Baby Bowser will be his own thing) appears in Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island as the final boss. One has a very good reason for his appearance, with it being heavily tied to the game's plot, and the other . . . is Yoshi's New Island. Bowser's movesets in these battles are pretty basic overall, mostly a whole lot of stomping, breathing fire, dropping rocks, and becoming a giant courtesy of Kamek. He can also warp through space and time at will for no discernible reason, but I'm not entirely certain how that might apply to gameplay. Maybe a new entrance.

Let's see what we've got:

Standard B: Fire Breath

Side B: Boulders
Still works.

Up B: Shell Spin
I suppose.

Down B: Slam Down
Quite appropriate.

Final Smash: Giant Bowser
Yeah, pretty much.

Entrance: Bowser will land in his Koopa Klown Kar. Or he might warp through time and space. You never know.

Taunts: His evil laugh from Super Mario 64, many of his taunts from Odyssey and other games, holding up a captive something or other, the list goes on.

Next up: Let's cover one of the two big bads of this franchise, Kamek!

Character Sheet: Yoshi (Yoshi Main Series)

YOSHI

Today, let's get started on the Mario spinoff series/prequel and all the characters that appeared there. As before with the Donkey Kong series, this will result in a split roster, but for now, let's just cover them all together.

1. Yoshi (Revision)
2. Bowser (Revision)
3. Kamek (Revision)
4. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
5. Shy Guy (Revision)
6. Goomba (Revision)
7. Piranha Plant (Revision)
8. Boo (Revision)
9. Blooper (Revision)
10. Lakitu and Spinies (Revision)
11. Monty Mole (Revision)
12. Yarn Yoshi
13. Baby Mario
14. Baby Bowser
15. Bandit
16. Ukiki
17. Chain Chomp

Today, we'll start off with our protagonist, Mario's beloved sidekick Yoshi. Obviously Yoshi, or the Yoshis, appear in every game, acting as the protagonist of each, most of the time as a protector of Baby Mario as he tries escape the machinations of Kamek, or otherwise simply putting an end to hijinks caused by Kamek or Baby Bowser.

Most of Yoshi's moveset here is pretty much what we see in Super Smash Bros. He eats enemies, actually turning them into eggs now as opposed to his appearances in the Mario games, and throwing them as projectiles is his main line of attack. He also has a butt bash maneuver in most games, though surprisingly, we actually don't see him roll up into an egg at any point. He does hatch from an egg, but reverting to egg form isn't normally a thing. Many things he does do that aren't represented in Smash are breathing fire and ice, and his transformations into things such as helicopters, mole tanks, and submarines, among many others. Also, his ability to rocket forward and throw gigantic eggs from New Island is not present either.

Let's see what we can do!

Standard B: Egg Lay
His basic move from Smash. He sticks out his tongue and swallows an enemy, popping them out as an egg. Now that we've actually seen him do so, it is really his only fitting standard move.

Side B: Egg Shot
Yoshi's basic projectile move from the games. This is actually Yoshi's Up B in Smash, but without the Egg Roll move, and with the move being one of the few in Smash without decent upward mobility, I feel it works better here. Possibly might have the cursor effect that it has in the games, but could remain as just a throw.

Up B: Helicopter
The transformations are such a core part of the Yoshi games that it feels strange they aren't featured in his moveset at all. I would like to remedy this and add in the transformation as his Up B, taking him up a certain distance before changing back.

Down B: Ground Pound
I'mma keep this. He still uses it pretty much all over the place, so I feel it fits here.

Final Smash: Yoshi Herd
One could reasonably trade out this move for the giant eggs used in New Island and just demolish the playing field, but I feel like the move currently used in Smash is much more representative of the character of Yoshi as a whole, so I think we'll keep it.

Entrance: He hatches from an egg.

Taunts: That cute little dance he does when he completes a level would be a pretty good one. Honestly, a lot of his cute movements and behaviors would work. The same goes for his new games. Cute is definitely a good descriptor here.

Next up: Let's warp through time and space to cover Bowser!

Yoshi's Crafted World

YOSHI'S CRAFTED WORLD

Today, let's cover Yoshi's Crafted World, the sequel to Yoshi's Woolly World after its big success and the most recent game put out by the Yoshi series. Instead of yarn, this time the whole world is made out of felt, cardboard, and various other crafting supplies, giving it a distinct resemblance to games like Little Big Planet. The game follows Yoshi as he tried to find the pieces of the Sundream Stone, which were scattered when Kamek and Baby Bowser tried to steal it.

Yoshi doesn't have too many unique abilities here the way he did in Woolly World (meaning no Crafted Yoshi, sadly), as most of his abilites are pretty much the basic Yoshi abilities: flutter jump, eating enemies, and throwing eggs. He does drive a giant mechanical Yoshi a couple of times though. That's pretty cool. Poochy also appears in the game, helping Yoshi in most of his basic ways, sniffing out hidden items and such. He can dig now, so that's cool. And there are a bunch of baby Poochies too. Other frequent allies include the Blockafellers, robots that plug in to let you access the next area.

Kamek and Baby Bowser are our main antagonists, flying around together this time, and showing up frequently as they are also searching for the Sundream Stones. Kamek can ride around on his broom and can cast all sorts of magical spells, generally to create bosses. Baby Bowser, on the other hand, can pilot a giant robot, become a giant himself, breathe fireballs, throw stars, drop meteors, and use a giant hammer.

Shy Guys are our resident common enemies, and in this game, they can fly, carry bags of money, carry a spear and shield, wear a dinosaur skull, hang from a balloon, descend by parachute, get fat, ride on unicycles, throw shurikens, glide, and throw spike balls. Other Mario regulars include Koopa Troopas, Piranha Plants, Monty Moles, Wigglers, Nippers, and Cheep Cheeps. Frequent Yoshi regulars include Ukikis (with big variants called Uckykongs), Tap Taps, Goonies, Ravens (which are made from tied-up little trashbag. It's so cute), Bumpties, Fangs, Clawdaddies, Tiny Mousers (that carry around magnets to steal stuff), and Blarggs and Nep-Enuts.

New enemies include: Makimakis, squirrels that roll out stretches of carpet; Bon-Boms, little springy toys that hop after you and explode; Skelesaurus, a dinosaur skeleton that chases you through a level; rolling Pinecones; Mels, literally living caramel squares that move around in stacks; Bobbers, little seedlings that dangle from above; Chompagobblers, square ghost things that chase after you if they spot you; Bushydos, samurai made from milk cartons; Rhinono, a rhino that chases you through a level; Cybos, robots with extendable arms; Bunmawashi Dolls, dolls that swing axes; and Lil Marchers, sentinel enemies that chase you if you set off an alarm.

We have a number of bosses this time around, not really enlarged by Kamek this time so much as "assembled." We have Yarrctopus, an octopus pirate who shoots spike balls at you from behind panels; Tin Can Condor, a condor made from parts who flies, spins, drops eggs, and throws paper airplanes; Spike the Piranha, a giant piranha plant that spits spike balls and Shy Guys, with small piranha heads on tendrils made of party balls; Burt the Ball, a ball-sized Burt the Bashful who bounces and rolls around, summoning Bumpties and smaller Burts; the Shogun of Skewers, who can make sound waves, teleport, and activate walls covered in spikes; Gator Train, a train designed like an alligator carrying Shy Guys that can chomp or fire colored pencils; Mr. Geary, a giant gear that can roll; and the Great King Bowser, Baby Bowser's mech that can slam its hands, drop missiles, spin, strike with a big fist, and throw lava and spike balls.

The stages are a bit different in terms of Yoshi's normal setup, with smaller worlds of one to two levels each. We start with Rail-Yard Run, a train station, followed by: Yarrctopus Docks, a water area; Go Go Land, a grassland area; Big Paper Peak, a mountainous area; Origami Gardens, a flowery garden area; Dino Desert, a desert world; Sky-High Heights, a sky world; Acorn Forest, a forest area; Pastel Pathway, a dessert-themed area; Cardstock Carnival, a circus-themed area; Chilly Hot Isles, basically Freezeflame Galaxy; Ninjarama, a classic Japanese feudal era-themed world; Rumble Jungle, a jungle area; Outer Orbit, a space area; Cheery Valley, a valley area; and Shadowville, a castle-themed world.

For items, we have a lot of the basics, plus magnets carried by Tiny Mousers, Sundream Stone pieces, and a lot of the crafting supplies used to make the stages I guess technically count.

Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:
Yoshi: run, jump, eat, make eggs, flutter jump, throw eggs, butt bash, breathe fire, ice, spit seeds, helicopter, mole tank, train, submarine, ski, fire as egg, rocket ship, gigantic eggs, rocket forward, minecart, bobsleigh, hot air balloon, run on walls and ceilings.

Yoshi's Woolly World

YOSHI'S WOOLLY WORLD

Yoshi's Woolly World is an incredibly creative game that takes the basic concepts of the Yoshi series and reimagines them as if everything were made of yarn and various knitting-related implements, making great use out of the concept in a variety of ways. The plot basically centers around Kamek having reduced most of the Yoshi population to bundles of yarn, and Yoshi having to travel to free them.

Yoshi in this game, or as he's fondly referred to as, Yarn Yoshi, can do a lot of the basic Yoshi moves, like eating enemies and performing flutter jumps, but a lot of his moveset makes him quite unique from Yoshi in other games. First off, eating enemies turns them into balls of yarn rather than eggs, and when the yarn ball is tossed it will tie up enemies tightly. He can also spin across a spool to launch himself a great distance, unravel into a swirl of yarn to go down a pipe, create clouds and platforms with his yarn, and of course, spit yarn versions of fire and ice. His transformations this time around include an umbrella, a giant, a bicycle, a mole, an airplane, and a mermaid. Poochy is our only supporting ally this time around, being able to charge, walk across hazards, find hidden items, and lick.

Kamek and Baby Bowser are once again our main antagonists. Kamek can fly around on his broom and cast transformation spells as usual, but he can also transform Yoshis into bundles of yarn, as demonstrated in the intro. Baby Bowser can jump around, breathing out a line of fire or fiery meteors in his small battle, then when he becomes a giant, can shoot up lava spouts and toss big balls of yarn.

Shy Guys are our most common enemy, of course, and they can dangle from balloons, throw bombs, use knitting needs as swords, fly with a propeller, walk on stilts, hang from hooks, and rise from the dead. Other Mario series regular enemies appearing include Koopa Troopas (with buttons for shells!!), Piranha Plants and Nippers, Cheep Cheeps, Boos, Lakitus, Monty Moles (a first appearance for this series I think), Pokeys, Bullet Bills, and Chain Chomps, who can be changed into Chomp Rocks this time around.

Yoshi series regulars include Burts, Tap Taps, Ukikis, Goonies, Blarggs, Lunge Fish, Spray Fish, Bumpties, Tiny Mousers, Gusties, Fangs, Clawdaddies, and Fluffin' Puffins. All of them perform their general functions as seen before. We also have a handful of new enemies, including: Hot Dogs, little dogs who breathe fire; Snoots, who spit projectiles; Ruffin' Tumbles, birds who roll around; Miss Cluck, a chicken that runs around; Smooch Spiders, that crawl around on webs, Snag Stitches, that flip themselves over; and Burrberts that move along a track.

We have a handful of bosses this time around, once again regular enemies enhanced by Kamek. They include: Big Montgomery, a giant Monty Mole that burrows around under wrapping paper, butt bashes, throws spike balls, summons up a stack of Monties, and rolls into a snowball; Knot-Wing the Koopa, a giant Koopa Troopa that can fly, belly bash, tuck into his shell, make waves, and fire a bullet-bill cannon; Burt the Bashful, returning once again in a repeat of his old battle; Bunson the Hot Dog, a giant Hot Dog who can breathe fire, spew lava, butt bash, and leap from wall to wall; Miss Cluck the Insincere, a giant Miss Cluck who can fly and drop spike balls, spin really fast, and shoot forward like a missile; Naval Piranha, another returning vet who throws bombs, extends tendrils, and wraps around objects; and Snifberg the Unfeeling, a giant Ice Snifit who can create ice blocks, spit out Shy Guys, roll around, and lift off from the ground.

The game takes place on Craft Island, basically Yoshi's Island but made of yarn, and is made up of six worlds. The stages within the worlds vary quite a bit, but the basic gist is: World 1 - Grassland, World 2 - Desert, World 3 - Sky/Toys or Candy, World 4 - Jungle/Water, World 5 - Snow, World 6 - Lava/Castle. The game ends with a final level entitled "The Wonderful World of Wool."

Items in the game include yarn balls, spools, knitting needles, bundles of yarn, beads, fruit, and so on.

Here's what we've got so far:

Yoshi's New Island

YOSHI'S NEW ISLAND

Yoshi's New Island was a sort of attempt to recreate the New Super Mario Bros. success but with the Yoshi series. I don't think it did well though. Most people don't seem too fond of it. Maybe it was the artstyle, or the plot, or what have you. Either way, here it is. The game follows the Yoshis, who help Baby Mario find Baby Luigi after the stork brought them to the wrong house and was subsequently accosted again by Kamek on his way to find the right house.

Yoshi acts similarly to how he does in other games, what with the flutter jumps, butt bashes, and eggs and all that but with a few new touches. He can now eat gigantic enemies to create gigantic eggs, capable of doing Mega Mario level damage. He could also blast forward at rocket speed at points, running on the walls and ceilings while he was at it. He could also transform into a hot air balloon, jackhammer, helicopter, submarine, minecart, and bobsleigh. Baby Mario could mostly just float through the air with his diaper. Baby Luigi and the Stork were just our D.I.D.s again. And Poochy could still carry you across stuff, but he could also ram into things too. Not much for our supporting cast.

Kamek and Baby Bowser act as our main villains again. Kamek could fly on his broom and transform enemies with his spells as usual (whacking them with a magic hammer for some reason this time), but this time he actually got his own boss battle, during which he could teleport, cast a damaging spell, use balloons to drop missiles, warp around flowers, and swoop low with his broom. Baby Bowser, in his fight, could jump around, stomp, and breathe fire. And then suddenly, warping through time and space (because they literally couldn't come up with any other reason for it I guess), Bowser appears. He could jump, stomp, and breathe fire as well. Worth it. Toadies can apparently beat up the stork now.

Shy Guys once again appear as our basics. They can float around on balloons, fly with a propeller, walk on stilts, copy your actions, carry a spear and shield, swing around a mace, walk around on fire, and they have a giant, metal, and Snifit form. Pretty much every other enemy is an old one. We have: Piranha Plants, Crazee Dayzees, Nippers, Blarggs, Tap Taps, Gusties, Goonies, Koopa Troopas, Little Mousers, Boos, Grim Leechers, Boo Blahs, Hotheads, Lantern Ghosts, Lakitus, Fangs, Cloud Drops, Nep-Enuts, Cheep Cheeps, Ukikis, Harry Hedgehogs, Preying Mantas, Spray Fish, Slime Drops, Clawdaddies, Lunge Fish, Caged Ghosts, Winged Wigglers, Bullet Bills, Pokeys, Grunts, Goombas, Chain Chomps, Mildes, Bumpties, Dr. Freezegoods, Green Gloves, Ravens, Bandits, Hot Lips, Hootie the Blue Fish, and Bloopers, all pretty much serving the same function. The skeleton fish that frequent Mario games, but since no game can decide on whether they're called Honen, Honebon, Bonefish, Fishbones, or now apparently Jean de Fillet, it's hard to say if they're a new enemy or not. The only unique one this time around is a living bean sprout, which I'm pretty sure exists just for the boss battle.

Speaking of which, our bosses, once again comprised of enemies enlarged by Kamek, include Big Beanie, a giant Beanie that spits beans; Count Fang, a giant Fang that spins on the ground; King Clawdaddy, a giant Clawdaddy that spits bubbles from his foamy mouth; Furious Fred de Fillet, a giant Jean de Fillet covered in armor that charges around and makes waves; and Punky the Pokey Prince, a giant Pokey that spews projectiles and shoots out spines.

Our stages are once again kind of a mix, but the general theming for each zone is Plains, Forest, Jungle, Savannah, Snow, and Lava.

The items are pretty basic, except for the ginormous eggs.
