Yoshi's Crafted World

YOSHI'S CRAFTED WORLD

Today, let's cover Yoshi's Crafted World, the sequel to Yoshi's Woolly World after its big success and the most recent game put out by the Yoshi series. Instead of yarn, this time the whole world is made out of felt, cardboard, and various other crafting supplies, giving it a distinct resemblance to games like Little Big Planet. The game follows Yoshi as he tried to find the pieces of the Sundream Stone, which were scattered when Kamek and Baby Bowser tried to steal it.

Yoshi doesn't have too many unique abilities here the way he did in Woolly World (meaning no Crafted Yoshi, sadly), as most of his abilites are pretty much the basic Yoshi abilities: flutter jump, eating enemies, and throwing eggs. He does drive a giant mechanical Yoshi a couple of times though. That's pretty cool. Poochy also appears in the game, helping Yoshi in most of his basic ways, sniffing out hidden items and such. He can dig now, so that's cool. And there are a bunch of baby Poochies too. Other frequent allies include the Blockafellers, robots that plug in to let you access the next area.

Kamek and Baby Bowser are our main antagonists, flying around together this time, and showing up frequently as they are also searching for the Sundream Stones. Kamek can ride around on his broom and can cast all sorts of magical spells, generally to create bosses. Baby Bowser, on the other hand, can pilot a giant robot, become a giant himself, breathe fireballs, throw stars, drop meteors, and use a giant hammer.

Shy Guys are our resident common enemies, and in this game, they can fly, carry bags of money, carry a spear and shield, wear a dinosaur skull, hang from a balloon, descend by parachute, get fat, ride on unicycles, throw shurikens, glide, and throw spike balls. Other Mario regulars include Koopa Troopas, Piranha Plants, Monty Moles, Wigglers, Nippers, and Cheep Cheeps. Frequent Yoshi regulars include Ukikis (with big variants called Uckykongs), Tap Taps, Goonies, Ravens (which are made from tied-up little trashbag. It's so cute), Bumpties, Fangs, Clawdaddies, Tiny Mousers (that carry around magnets to steal stuff), and Blarggs and Nep-Enuts.

New enemies include: Makimakis, squirrels that roll out stretches of carpet; Bon-Boms, little springy toys that hop after you and explode; Skelesaurus, a dinosaur skeleton that chases you through a level; rolling Pinecones; Mels, literally living caramel squares that move around in stacks; Bobbers, little seedlings that dangle from above; Chompagobblers, square ghost things that chase after you if they spot you; Bushydos, samurai made from milk cartons; Rhinono, a rhino that chases you through a level; Cybos, robots with extendable arms; Bunmawashi Dolls, dolls that swing axes; and Lil Marchers, sentinel enemies that chase you if you set off an alarm.

We have a number of bosses this time around, not really enlarged by Kamek this time so much as "assembled." We have Yarrctopus, an octopus pirate who shoots spike balls at you from behind panels; Tin Can Condor, a condor made from parts who flies, spins, drops eggs, and throws paper airplanes; Spike the Piranha, a giant piranha plant that spits spike balls and Shy Guys, with small piranha heads on tendrils made of party balls; Burt the Ball, a ball-sized Burt the Bashful who bounces and rolls around, summoning Bumpties and smaller Burts; the Shogun of Skewers, who can make sound waves, teleport, and activate walls covered in spikes; Gator Train, a train designed like an alligator carrying Shy Guys that can chomp or fire colored pencils; Mr. Geary, a giant gear that can roll; and the Great King Bowser, Baby Bowser's mech that can slam its hands, drop missiles, spin, strike with a big fist, and throw lava and spike balls.

The stages are a bit different in terms of Yoshi's normal setup, with smaller worlds of one to two levels each. We start with Rail-Yard Run, a train station, followed by: Yarrctopus Docks, a water area; Go Go Land, a grassland area; Big Paper Peak, a mountainous area; Origami Gardens, a flowery garden area; Dino Desert, a desert world; Sky-High Heights, a sky world; Acorn Forest, a forest area; Pastel Pathway, a dessert-themed area; Cardstock Carnival, a circus-themed area; Chilly Hot Isles, basically Freezeflame Galaxy; Ninjarama, a classic Japanese feudal era-themed world; Rumble Jungle, a jungle area; Outer Orbit, a space area; Cheery Valley, a valley area; and Shadowville, a castle-themed world.

For items, we have a lot of the basics, plus magnets carried by Tiny Mousers, Sundream Stone pieces, and a lot of the crafting supplies used to make the stages I guess technically count.
