Frigate Orpheon

FRIGATE ORPHEON

Probably the most memorable part of Metroid Prime is the opening, starting Samus out with her full suit and library of power-ups, exploring an abandoned ship and ending in a boss fight against a giant alien parasite.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl pretty perfectly represented this stage, as well as standard Boss Battles in general, with the Parasite Queen raging around in the background. The stage flipping upside down is not part of the source material as far as I remember, but it’s fine.

Dark Samus

DARK SAMUS

Samus will defeat and seemingly destroy the Metroid Prime, leaving Tallon IV and heading off to her next adventure. From the pools of Phazon where the Metroid’s body fell however, a new form would rise, a form reshaped to perfectly match the only being that had ever bested it: Samus herself.

This new being would come to be known as Dark Samus, a being of Phazon and Metroid DNA that scanned Samus’s suit and abilities and recreated them with its own biology. Dark Samus would pose a threat in the two following games, acting as the main villain and instigator of both threats.

As a fighter, Dark Samus would be very similar in stats to Samus herself, doing its best to copy her in all aspects. Its moveset would pull from all battles fought with Samus across both games that it appears as the main villain in.

Likelihood rating: Already in.

Metroid Prime

METROID PRIME

Samus will work her way down into the crater left behind by the meteor and into the mines where the Space Pirates have been extracting Phazon. There, deep in the bowels of it all, she will encounter their deadliest creation, a Metroid mutated by prolonged exposure to the substance.

This is the Metroid Prime, the final boss of the game and the entire series’ namesake. It was created to boost the deadliness already posed by the Metroids to the galaxy. Though Samus would seemingly kill it, it would return in a new form, mimicking the abilities of the person who killed it.

As a fighter, the Metroid Prime would be large and heavy, but surprisingly fast and deadly at the same time. Its moveset would pull from its prolonged battle with Samus Aran.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Phazon Elite

PHAZON ELITE

The more Samus explores Tallon IV and investigates what the space pirates are doing there, she comes to learn that the meteorite that hit the planet was covered in a strange substance called Phazon, a substance which, when infused into Space Pirates, enhanced their physical abilities.

These were the Phazon Elite, much more powerful warriors of the Space Pirate forces that Samus would have to face multiple times in battle, especially toward the second half of the game.

As fighters, the Phazon Elite will be similar in many ways to the standard Space Pirate, but will be stronger, faster, and will generally have a good bump in their stats overall. Their moveset will pull from the main battles Samus fights them in.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Chozo Ghost

CHOZO GHOST

Once down on the planet, Samus would find the ruins of a settlement of her extinct adoptive race, the Chozo. While exploring the region, Samus frequently found herself attacked by ghostly apparitions that resembled the dead race.

These are the Chozo Ghosts, Chozo mystics who had transcended beyond their physical bodies and on to a higher plane of existence until a meteor struck Tallon IV with such devastating force that their bodies were destroyed, their souls ripped into a state of limbo that slowly drove them made.

As fighters, the Chozo Ghosts will be fast, deadly, and able to switch between different planes of visibility, making them difficult to target for their opponents. Their moveset will pull from their abilities shown in game.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Meta Ridley

META RIDLEY

Although most of its contemporaries made the jump to the 3D Era with the Nintendo 64, for better or worse, the Metroid series opted to wait until the Game Cube to release its very first 3D title, Metroid Prime. The game was set in between Metroid and Metroid II, with Samus responding to a distress call from a downed frigate orbiting the planet Tallon IV. After finding the frigate infested with parasites and cleaning them out, Samus spotted her old nemesis Ridley flying down to the planet’s surface.

This is actually Meta Ridley, a cyborg version of Ridley after he was rebuilt from his injuries during his fight with Samus in the original game. Meta Ridley would function as Ridley’s primary throughout the entire Metroid Prime series, not regaining his full body until Super Metroid.

As a fighter, Meta Ridley would be similar in stats and design to Ridley himself, though a bit heavier and a bit more powerful. His moveset would pull from his various battles, leaning into the differences between the two forms.

Likelihood rating: (Kinda) already in.

Space Pirate

SPACE PIRATE

Not too far in, Samus will have her first canonical encounter with the main grunts of her enemy forces, the Space Pirates, also called Zebesians.

Though they will vary in appearance from time to time, Space Pirates tend to be large reptilian creatures with large claws and often wielding large blades on their arms. These creatures serve under Ridley and will do anything to seize control of the galaxy.

As fighters, Space Pirates will be fast and agile, with cutting moves that strike with pinpoint accuracy. Their moveset will pull from all of their major appearances in nearly every game of the series.

Likelihood rating: Could happen.

Samus Aran

 SAMUS ARAN

In 1986, three years into the NES’s lifespan, Nintendo produced a new platformer based heavily on the sci fi horror genre, most specifically the Alien franchise and the works of H.R. Geiger, with a lone bounty hunter traversing an alien planet alone while facing a number of horrifying alien monsters.

This lone bounty hunter is named Samus Aran. Although, she appears in full armor hiding her true appearance, if you complete the game with a high enough percentage, she will reveal herself as a young human woman at the end of the game. Further games would flesh out her backstory as an orphan raised by a race called the Chozo and augmented to be capable of incredible feats of strength and agility.

As a fighter, Samus Aran is quick and powerful, with solid defense owing to her power suit. Her moveset will pull from the various abilities she picks up throughout her games, such as missiles, bombs, and various types of laser beams.

Likelihood rating: Already in.

Other Metroid Comics

OTHER METROID COMICS

Today, let's finish up with all remaining Metroid comics that were more small little things with very little substance. The first is "The Shape of Happiness," a collection of comic stories based on Nintendo properties, among which are three Metroid chapters, the first of which feature Samus working alongside a green policeman named Mari Yoshimura #2. Yoshimura doesn't do much and ends up getting killed by a Metroid disguised as a bellhop (don't ask).

Next is a comic based on Metroid Prime, yet unlike its sequel, really just retells the story of Metroid Prime with no variation or additional characters. That's pretty much it for published comics, however, we should also mention that a Metroid series was also pitched three times to Archie Comics back in 2009, all three of which were ultimately abandoned.

And that's pretty much it! Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:

Samus

Joey: Field Knuckles, punches, energy barriers, wheels, stick, sparklers, Space Pirate gun, Space Pirate's skin, absorb energy, Exodus

Diesel: flotation device, weld, fix things, detonate bombs, viruses, Junk Hawk

Metroid Prime Trilogy

METROID PRIME TRILOGY

Now, we come to Metroid Prime Trilogy, a compilation of the three main Metroid Prime games released together in one game. This game came only two years after Corruption released, and on the same console, so really there wasn't any major additions, it was pretty much the three games lifted straight onto the disc, with maybe some graphical upgrades here and there.

That's really all I've got to say! Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:

Zero Suit Samus: emergency pistol, crawl, backflip

Ridley: missiles, claws, fly fireballs, stomp, grab

Metroid Queen: laser beam, green orbs

Omega Metroid: laser beam, laser beam at ground, leap, claw, tail pound

Chozo: orb, float, shock

Space Pirates

It also occurs to me that I forgot to do the updates on returning characters, so here goes: Samus will largely remain the same, as her previous moveset was built off the most common recurring trends which have still retained their presence here (though a little fluffing up is fine). Adam Malkovitch and the other Federation Marines will gain some from Corruption but not much more than seen in Other M. Though Mother Brain is largely absent and all of Ridley's appearances fall under Meta Ridley, the Space Pirates do come around a lot, especially offering up the Aerotrooper jetpacks. Metroids also appear, but aren't given much more than their standard.

Now that that's done, tomorrow we begin . . . everything else, gamewise.

Character Sheet: Phazon Elite

PHAZON ELITE

And now, we have another set of characters, this time hailing from the Prime series of games. You'd think a series like Metroid wouldn't have that many, but we're pretty close to fifty now. Our new ones include:

1. Federation Mech

2. Rundas

3. Ghor

4. Gandrayda

5. Noxus

6. Sylux

7. Spire

8. Trace

9. Kanden

10. Weavel

11. U-Mos

12. Aurora Unit

13. Dark Samus

14. Meta Ridley

15. Metroid Prime

16. Emperor Ing

17. Gorea

18. Chozo Ghost

19. Steambot

20. Ing

21. Liquid Phazon

22. Quad

23. Phazon Elite

24. Berserker Lord

25. Labor Golem

Today we will be covering what is actually three types of enemies, but all in the same class, with the two just being specifically special types. These are the Elite Pirates, and their two even more enhanced compatriots who act as bosses, the Omega Pirate and the Phazon Elite. Basically, they are Space Pirates who have been enhanced by Phazon. I went with the Phazon Elite name because it gets the point across best.

Between them all, we have attacks like massive Phazon energy blasts, massive punches, a wave quake generator to create shockwaves, the ability to teleport, and the ability to absorb energy from attacks. Plenty to work with at the very least.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Phazon Beam

The Elite will fire a blast of Phazon as a projectile.

Side B: Phazon Punch

The Phazon Elite will punch really hard with devastating force. One of the most powerful attacks in the game.

Up B: Phazon Warp

The Elite will warp and teleport to a new location.

Down B: Wave Quake

The Elite will set off its Wave Quake Generator to cause a shockwave.

Final Smash: Omega Pirate

The Elite will get a sudden shot of Phazon into its system, making it bigger and even more powerful and sending it into a rage.

Entrance: It will break out of its containment.

Taunts: Up, it will roar as its Phazon glows. Side, it will inject itself with a little more. Down, it will curl up as if going back into hibernation.

Kirby Hat: Their little helmets.

Kart: Based on their containment units.

Special Move: It will give itself a boost of Phazon, temporarily ramping up all of its stats.

Spirit Battle: A giant battle on Frigate Orpheon.

Victory Screen: It will break free of containment, roar, and then go on a rampage.

Losing Screen: Its dying animation will play out.

Color Swaps: An Elite Pirate's normal colors, with pink Phazon colors, with purple colors, with yellow colors, with green colors, with red colors, an Omega Pirate, and a Phazon Elite.

Thanks for reading! Next up, kind of a continuation of the same idea.

Character Sheet: Chozo Ghost

CHOZO GHOST

And now, we have another set of characters, this time hailing from the Prime series of games. You'd think a series like Metroid wouldn't have that many, but we're pretty close to fifty now. Our new ones include:

1. Federation Mech

2. Rundas

3. Ghor

4. Gandrayda

5. Noxus

6. Sylux

7. Spire

8. Trace

9. Kanden

10. Weavel

11. U-Mos

12. Aurora Unit

13. Dark Samus

14. Meta Ridley

15. Metroid Prime

16. Emperor Ing

17. Gorea

18. Chozo Ghost

19. Mechanoid

20. Ing

21. Liquid Phazon

22. Quad

23. Phazon Elite

24. Berserker Lord

25. Labor Golem

And now for, in my opinion, the coolest enemy type in the entire Metroid franchise, which I actually hadn't been planning to add to the roster until just recently because they only just barely reach the line, and now I have to think of a new assist trophy to fill their slot. Chozo Ghosts were transcended Chozo who ended up trapped in a state of limbo after the Phazon meteor struck their planet and were eventually driven mad by the Phazon's influence.

The most prominent aspect of these enemies is the ability to turn invisible, forcing Samus to have to switch to different visors if she wants to fight them. They can also dash forward at high speeds, shoot energy attacks at her, and float in midair. Again, they just barely make the line, but at least it's there, so . . .

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Spectral Blast

Their basic projectile move that they use against Samus.

Side B: Spectral Dash

They will race forward at high speed, slashing at their opponent as they do so.

Up B: Levitation

The ghost will take up a meditation stance and rise into the air for a second.

Down B: Plane Shift

Pressing this will allow the Ghost to shift between visible and invisible at will. All other moves are still usable in either form.

Final Smash: Impact Crater Gateway

Several ghosts will appear in a circle, sealing the gateway over the stage and players in reverse of when they unlock the way for Samus in the final act.

Entrance: They will flash into existence with their signature scream.

Taunts: Up, it will float and meditate for a second. Side, it will flash between visible and invisible for a second (works as a good way to remind yourself where you are without switching back to visible). Down, it will skate side to side and screech for a second.

Kirby Hat: Kirby will look like one of them, all pale and clear and stuff.

Kart: Based on the Chozo Artifacts.

Special Move: Naturally, they can turn invisible.

Spirit Battle: A three-on-one battle on Frigate Orpheon, with all opponents invisible.

Victory Screen: They will open the way to the Impact Crater.

Losing Screen: Their death animation with occur.

Color Swaps: The normal white, a red, green, blue, pink, yellow, gray, and black color scheme.

Thanks for reading! Next up, a possible combination of multiple enemy types heavily connected to Ghor.

Character Sheet: Metroid Prime

METROID PRIME

And now, we have another set of characters, this time hailing from the Prime series of games. You'd think a series like Metroid wouldn't have that many, but we're pretty close to fifty now. Our new ones include:

1. Federation Mech

2. Rundas

3. Ghor

4. Gandrayda

5. Noxus

6. Sylux

7. Spire

8. Trace

9. Kanden

10. Weavel

11. U-Mos

12. Aurora Unit

13. Dark Samus

14. Meta Ridley

15. Metroid Prime

16. Emperor Ing

17. Gorea

18. Chozo Ghost

19. Mechanoid

20. Ing

21. Liquid Phazon

22. Quad

23. Phazon Elite

24. Berserker Lord

25. Labor Golem

Today, we will cover the Metroid Prime, most of whose story we already covered with Dark Samus, being a Metroid mutated by the volatile chemical Phazon by Space Pirates on Tallon IV, before it was fought and apparently killed by Samus and subsequently took on her shape. So this is basically Dark Samus before she became Dark Samus.

The fight has different phases, but the bulk of it is spent in a giant crab-like form, so that will primarily be the form she takes as the Metroid Prime. She can barrel forward at high speed, hang from the ceiling, shoot energy beams, lunge forward, burrow underground, drop bombs from her underbelly, shoot balls of fire and spit green fire, and turn invisible. That should be more than enough for us.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Green Fire

Just to differentiate from all the laser blasts, let's give her a fire blast to work with instead.

Side B: Charge

I would like a slightly more unique one, but she does charge a lot in this form, so let's just do that. She could also lunge forward too.

Up B: Ceiling Cling

She will launch herself high into the air, clinging onto any platform above her if one happens to exist.

Down B: Burrow

Invisibility or the Bombs could work here too, but I'm going with the burrowing. Possibly could do the whole Bugs Bunny Multiversus thing too while we're at it.

Final Smash: Final Form

She will transform into her final form and start using attacks from that end of the battle, lashing out with her tentacles and breathing fire.

Entrance: She will start out on the ceiling and drop down.

Taunts: Up, she will rear up on her back legs and roar. Side, she will spread her legs and look around. Down, she will act protective over a batch of phazon.

Kirby Hat: He'll be wearing the top of her head like a hat.

Kart: Based on her base form, but with wheels.

Special Move: She will extend her legs and barrel forward at high speed.

Spirit Battle: A giant battle on Frigate Orpheon.

Victory Screen: She will hatch and emerge as her final form.

Losing Screen: Her death animation will play out.

Color Swaps: All will be black on the shell, but with different glows at the edges. These will be red, blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, white, and gold.

Thanks for reading! Next up, another more beastly final battle.

Character Sheet: Meta Ridley

META RIDLEY

And now, we have another set of characters, this time hailing from the Prime series of games. You'd think a series like Metroid wouldn't have that many, but we're pretty close to fifty now. Our new ones include:

1. Federation Mech

2. Rundas

3. Ghor

4. Gandrayda

5. Noxus

6. Sylux

7. Spire

8. Trace

9. Kanden

10. Weavel

11. U-Mos

12. Aurora Unit

13. Dark Samus

14. Meta Ridley

15. Metroid Prime

16. Emperor Ing

17. Gorea

18. Chozo Ghost

19. Mechanoid

20. Ing

21. Liquid Phazon

22. Quad

23. Phazon Elite

24. Berserker Lord

25. Labor Golem

Next up, we have Ridley's distinctive appearance throughout all of the Metroid Prime series, rebuilt with cyborg enhancements after being heavily wounded in his battle with Samus in the first game. Somehow, he grew the rest of his body back for Super Metroid, but let's not question that part, shall we? He appears throughout the first game as, more or less, the main villain behind the Tallon IV operation, and then appears at the beginning of Corruption, leading the Space Pirates in their epic battle against the Federation on Norion.

In this form, he could fly as usual, fire laser beams and drop bombs, slam on the ground, swipe with his claws, dash forward, spit fireballs, use his wings as a shield, fire a laser blast and an explosive blast, bite, breathe fire, and spin his tail around really fast. Similar in many ways to his regular appearance, but souped up just a bit with technology.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Laser Blast

While the fire breath is very much his normal form's forte, we will be going with a laser blast for this form just to differentiate it.

Side B: Tail Spin

He will lash out with his long metallic tail and sweep it rapidly around himself, tripping up anyone nearby.

Up B: Hyper Wings

He will shoot straight up into the air, using his cybernetic wings to fly higher and faster than his normal form would. He would also have super armor during the ascent.

Down B: Bombard

He would raise up into the air and drop bombs directly below him that would detonate on impact.

Final Smash: High Speed Chase

I based this one on the chase battle from Brawl, since its so iconic, and it would match but also be distinct from Ridley's Final. The opponent would land on Samus's ship as it races through a shaft, with Meta Ridley racing in behind it and slashing the ship out of the air.

Entrance: He will slam down hard on the ground from above.

Taunts: Up, he will raise up and flap his cybernetic wings. Side, he will get down and roar loudly. Down, he will wrap himself in his wings for a second.

Kirby Hat: Like Ridley's but with the cyborg parts.

Kart: Based on a Space Pirate ship from Corruption, or flying.

Special Move: He will drop bombs from beneath him.

Spirit Battle: A giant battle on Frigate Orpheon.

Victory Screen: He will roar as Space Pirates move forward with guns loaded.

Losing Screen: His body will start to explode and he will fall away down a long shaft.

Color Swaps: All of the Ridley colors, but with contrasting colors on the cyborg parts.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Dark Samus is back . . . kinda.

Metroid Prime

METROID PRIME

And now it's time for the first game in the widely acclaimed 3D trilogy for the Metroid series, Metroid Prime. Released for the Nintendo Gamecube, the game focuses on Samus responding to a distress call on the planet Tallon IV, a former Chozo stronghold and new center of Space Pirate activity conducting experiments on a substance called Phazon.

The game goes from a sidescroller to a first-person shooter, showing you the world from the inside of Samus's helmet. She comes with her standard laser beam, and picks up the charge beam, the morph ball, missiles, bombs, the boost ball ability (allowing her to jump while in ball form), the space jump boots, the super missile, a thermal visors, the spider ball (letting her crawl along walls as a ball), the wave buster, the ice beam, the gravity suit, the power bomb, the grapple beam, the x-ray visor, the plasma beam, the ice spreader, the flamethrower, and a phazon suit and phazon beams for traversing the final level.

Meta Ridley is our main villain, of sorts, leading the Space Pirates in their experiments with Phazon. He is basically Ridley, just needing cyborg enhancements after the injuries he sustained in his fight with Samus on Zebes. In this form, he can fly, shoot beams from his mouth, drop bombs, slam into the ground, swipe at Samus, dash forward, shoot fireballs, and create shields out of wind. The final boss of the game, however, comes in the form of the Metroid Prime, a Metroid that has been mutated into a crablike monster by Phazon. The Prime will barrel forward, hang from the ceiling, shoot energy beams, lunge, burrow underground, drop bombs, shoot balls of fire, release a wave of green fire, turn invisible, and take on a final form.

Our other bosses include the Parasite Queen from the beginning, who just shoots an energy beam; a giant plant called Flaahgra, that can slash and has poisonous breath; Thardus, an ice golem that rolls, creates a shockwave of ice, and punches; and three elite forms of Space Pirate: the Elite Pirate that fires energy blasts, punches hard, and creates a shockwave; the Omega Pirate that punches, fires energy blasts, teleports, and creates shockwaves; and the Phazon Elite, that unleashes a devastating shockwave.

From here, we have a bunch of enemies. The most important include the Space Pirates, who can swim and have jetpacks now; the Metroids; and the Chozo Ghosts, vengeful spirits of fallen Chozo who move around invisibly, float, dash, and shoot energy balls. From there we have the rampaging Sheegoths, Aqua Drones, Reapers, and Sacs, War Wasps, Beetles, Blastcaps, Bloodflowers, Burrowers, Eyons, Geemers, Grizbies, Jelzaps, Magmoors, Oculuses, Parasites, Plazmites, Puffers, Pulse Bombus, Reaper Vines, Shriekbats, Stone Toads, Tallon Crabs, Tangleweeds, Triclopses, Zoomers, and Auto Defense Turrets. Most of these fill a single niche and that's about it.

The game starts out on the Frigate Orpheon, an abandoned ship that acts as a tutorial phase. From there, we move down to the planet Tallon IV, where Samus's ship rests in the Tallon Overworld. The main areas include Chozo Ruins, a jungle-y area; Magmoor Caverns, a lava area; Phendrana Drifts, an ice area; the Phazon Mines; the Artifact Temple where Samus faces Ridley and unlocks the final level; and the Impact Crater, which acts as the final area.

And that's just about it! Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:

Samus: laser beam, charge beam, morph ball, missile, bomb, boost ball, space jump boots, super missile, thermal visor, spider ball, wave buster, ice beam, gravity suit, power bomb, grapple beam, x-ray visor, plasma beam, ice spreader, flamethrower, phazon suit, phazon beam

Meta Ridley: fly, beams, drop bombs, slam, swipe, dash, fireballs, wind shields

Metroid Prime: barrel, hang, energy beams, lunge, burrow, bombs, balls of fire, green fire, invisible, final form

Elite Pirate/Omega Pirate/Phazon Elite: energy blasts, punch, shockwave, teleport

Space Pirates: swim, jetpack

Metroids

Chozo Ghost: invisibility, float, dash, energy balls

Sheegoth

War Wasp

Geemer

Bosses:

Parasite Queen

Flaahgra

Thardus

Stages:

Frigate Orpheon

Tallon IV

Chozo Ruins

Magmoor Caverns

Phendrana Drifts

Phazon Mines

Artifact Temple

Impact Crater

Character Sheet: Metroid

METROID

And now, let's take a quick break to go over our new characters from the six games that fall under the "Metroid" label (no Primes or remakes). As you can see, we have twenty (or twenty-five to be more accurate, but we'll get to those. They are:

1. Samus Aran

2. Adam Malkovitch

3. Mother Brain

4. MB*

5. Ridley

6. Kraid

7. Raven Beak

8. SA-X

9. Space Pirate

10. Kihunter

11. Metroid

12. X-Parasite

13. Autoad

14. Chozo Soldier

15. Robot Chozo Soldier

16. EMMI

17. Torizo

18. Phantoon

19. Nightmare

20. Metroid Queen

And now for the namesakes and most important enemies of the Metroid series, the Metroids themselves. The Metroids were bio-engineered by the Chozo before being commandeered by Mother Brain and the Space Pirates as biological weapons of mass destruction. They are incredibly deadly and invasive parasites that Samus has had to exterminate on more than one occasion.

So, the typical version of the Metroid (specifically the Metroid Larva) doesn't look like much, just being a floaty jellyfish thing with teeth that latches on and drains energy, but later games (especially Metroid II) would expand upon their biology, with specific phases of Metroid from the larvae all the way up to the Queen. The Queen and other notable specific types won't be covered here, but the rest are shown flying, attacking with claws, shooting electricity, breathing fire, and throwing fireballs. All very much more than enough.

Here's the movesets I came up with:

Standard B: Drain

The most iconic Metroid move, so of course it has to be first. (I like to think Kirby's version of this would be really cute)

Side B: Fireballs

The Metroid will shoot bursts of energy from itself as projectiles.

Up B: Hatch

Its dome would crack open and its smaller Alpha self will rise out of it, rising quickly upward.

Down B: Electricity

It will let off bolts of electricity around itself, protecting it from harm and stunning those around it.

Final Smash: Super Metroid

The giant Super Metroid will appear on screen, attacking the stage and draining everyone on it of a lot of life before flying away.

Entrance: It will rise from a broken container.

Taunts: Up, it will swim upward really fast. Side, it will swish back and forth. Down, it will flop down on the ground and look drained.

Kirby Hat: The little jellyfish dome.

Kart: Based on the containers they're kept in.

Special Move: They will latch onto another player and let them carry them for a while.

Spirit Battle: A horde of ten on SR388.

Victory Screen: A horde of them will spread and infest everything in sight.

Losing Screen: A wide shot of SR388 will explode into nothing.

Color Swaps: Their normal larva form, an Alpha, a Gamma, a Zeta, a Tallon Metroid, a Phazon Metroid, the Super Metroid, and a Metroid with the colors of a frozen Metroid.

Thanks for reading! Next up, the unfortunate result of Samus's Metroid genocide.

Character Sheet: Space Pirate

SPACE PIRATE

And now, let's take a quick break to go over our new characters from the six games that fall under the "Metroid" label (no Primes or remakes). As you can see, we have twenty (or twenty-five to be more accurate, but we'll get to those. They are:

3. Mother Brain

4. MB*

5. Ridley

6. Kraid

7. Raven Beak

8. SA-X

9. Space Pirate

10. Kihunter

11. Metroid

12. X-Parasite

13. Autoad

14. Chozo Soldier

15. Robot Chozo Soldier

16. EMMI

17. Torizo

18. Phantoon

19. Nightmare

20. Metroid Queen

Next up, we have the Space Pirates, or Zebesians (even though canonically the Chozo come from Zebes, so it doesn't make sense, but no matter). These are the main grunts of the space pirate army, tall reptilian beings generally with blades along their arms who can cling to walls and so on. They didn't appear until Super Metroid, but Zero Mission retroactively included them in the previous story arc.

As far as their abilities, Space Pirates come with claws and blades on their arms, can fire energy beams, throw their claws, cling and hop from wall to wall, kick, swim, and fire wave beams. It's also worth noting, for Up B purposes that the 3D games include jetpacks to fly around with, because otherwise I might have used Kihunter wings or something.

Here's the movesets I came up with:

Standard B: Blade Slash

The Space Pirate will slash forward with its blade. If it connects with another body, it will simply slash. If not, it will fly forward a short distance and come back.

Side B: Energy Beam

They will fire the energy beams that they are known for throughout the games.

Up B: Rocket Pack

The space pirate's jetpack from the Prime games will open up, lifting them off the ground and into the air. The player can perform other attacks while in the air.

Down B: Pirate Kick

The Space Pirate will perform a kick, slashing and clawing with its legs if it connects. I figure the clinging to walls can just be a natural thing they are good at.

Final Smash: Horde Attack

A Space Pirate Mothership will appear, opening up and dropping a horde of pirates down onto the stage to ravage and pillage to their heart's content.

Entrance: They will drop down from an airship.

Taunts: Up, they will raise their blade to the sky. Side, they will take up a fighting stance and let out a warning screech. Down, they will crouch and look around.

Kirby Hat: Their heads with their big buggy eyes.

Kart: Based on their weapons and ships.

Special Move: They will be able to attack to the side with their blades.

Spirit Battle: A horde battle on Space Pirate Mothership.

Victory Screen: A horde of them will raise their blades into the air in victory.

Losing Screen: They will try to run as the planet self-destructs beneath their feet.

Color Swaps: Their teal-ish original color, their green color, their red color, their pink color, their purple Fusion color, their Metroid Prime look, their Prime 3 look, a look based on Weavel.

Thanks for reading! Next up, their winged buglike allies, the Kihunters!

Character Sheet: Samus Aran

SAMUS ARAN

And now, let's take a quick break to go over our new characters from the six games that fall under the "Metroid" label (no Primes or remakes). As you can see, we have twenty (or twenty-five to be more accurate, but we'll get to those. They are:

1. Samus

2. Adam Malkovitch

3. Mother Brain

4. MB*

5. Ridley

6. Kraid

7. Raven Beak

8. SA-X

9. Space Pirate

10. Kihunter

11. Metroid

12. X-Parasite

13. Autoad

14. Chozo Soldier

15. Robot Chozo Soldier

16. EMMI

17. Torizo

18. Phantoon

19. Nightmare

20. Metroid Queen

Samus Aran is our protagonist, the first major female video game protagonist (after Ms. Pac-Man, of course), a bounty hunter raised by a race called the Chozo and trained from childhood to do superhuman feats of strength and agility, bolstered by a special power suit designed just for her. She is often called in to dangerous situation, to wipe out alien parasites created as a result of malevolent bio-engineering. She is awesome.

Samus comes equipped with several staples of her suit, including multiple forms of beams, bombs, and missiles, all of which can do various things and take out enemies in ways the others can't. She can also roll up into a ball (don't question what that would do to her spine), and perform several moves that allow her to get up high, like the screw attack, the hi-jump boots, and the space jump. Honestly, her moveset was well planned out by the Smash developers.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Charge Beam

Charge beam works well enough, though it would be reasonable to have a bunch of her beams, like the ice beam, the spazer beam, and the wide beam in there too.

Side B: Missile

Just like the charge beam, this is a perfectly reasonable option to stick here. I also like the Missile/Super Missile option they worked in with it.

Up B: Screw Attack

Any of them would work, but Screw Attack is very iconic, so let's keep it.

Down B: Bombs

Naturally, this has to be bombs. Bombs are so important in the Metroid series.

Final Smash: Multiple Options

The big wide beam that she uses is fine, although I can't think of a specific move it pulls from in the series itself. She could also call in her ship the way Zero-Suit does, and she could use things like the Omega Cannon and such from more modern games.

Entrance: She will step out of a lift

Taunts: Up, she will raise her arm and fix her cannon for a second. Side, she will hold out her arm and tap on it for a second to look over her mission. Down, she will crouch and look ready.

Kirby Hat: Her helmet

Kart: Based on her ship

Special Move: She can turn into a morph ball and cross non-track areas faster than she normally could.

Spirit Battle: Solo battle, on Planet Zebes, with specific Metroid series items dropping around the stage periodically.

Victory Screen: She will float in a beam of light as the power-up song plays.

Losing Screen: She will look stunned as her suit shatters off of her.

Color Swaps: Varia Suit, Power Suit, Gravity Suit, Fusion Suit, Omega Suit, Metroid Suit, Dark Samus-based suit, helmet-less suit.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Samus's mentor and other fellow Space Marines.
