METROID
And now, let's take a quick break to go over our new characters from the six games that fall under the "Metroid" label (no Primes or remakes). As you can see, we have twenty (or twenty-five to be more accurate, but we'll get to those. They are:
1. Samus Aran
2. Adam Malkovitch
3. Mother Brain
4. MB*
5. Ridley
6. Kraid
7. Raven Beak
8. SA-X
9. Space Pirate
10. Kihunter
11. Metroid
12. X-Parasite
13. Autoad
14. Chozo Soldier
15. Robot Chozo Soldier
16. EMMI
17. Torizo
18. Phantoon
19. Nightmare
20. Metroid Queen
And now for the namesakes and most important enemies of the Metroid series, the Metroids themselves. The Metroids were bio-engineered by the Chozo before being commandeered by Mother Brain and the Space Pirates as biological weapons of mass destruction. They are incredibly deadly and invasive parasites that Samus has had to exterminate on more than one occasion.
So, the typical version of the Metroid (specifically the Metroid Larva) doesn't look like much, just being a floaty jellyfish thing with teeth that latches on and drains energy, but later games (especially Metroid II) would expand upon their biology, with specific phases of Metroid from the larvae all the way up to the Queen. The Queen and other notable specific types won't be covered here, but the rest are shown flying, attacking with claws, shooting electricity, breathing fire, and throwing fireballs. All very much more than enough.
Here's the movesets I came up with:
Standard B: Drain
The most iconic Metroid move, so of course it has to be first. (I like to think Kirby's version of this would be really cute)
Side B: Fireballs
The Metroid will shoot bursts of energy from itself as projectiles.
Up B: Hatch
Its dome would crack open and its smaller Alpha self will rise out of it, rising quickly upward.
Down B: Electricity
It will let off bolts of electricity around itself, protecting it from harm and stunning those around it.
Final Smash: Super Metroid
The giant Super Metroid will appear on screen, attacking the stage and draining everyone on it of a lot of life before flying away.
Entrance: It will rise from a broken container.
Taunts: Up, it will swim upward really fast. Side, it will swish back and forth. Down, it will flop down on the ground and look drained.
Kirby Hat: The little jellyfish dome.
Kart: Based on the containers they're kept in.
Special Move: They will latch onto another player and let them carry them for a while.
Spirit Battle: A horde of ten on SR388.
Victory Screen: A horde of them will spread and infest everything in sight.
Losing Screen: A wide shot of SR388 will explode into nothing.
Color Swaps: Their normal larva form, an Alpha, a Gamma, a Zeta, a Tallon Metroid, a Phazon Metroid, the Super Metroid, and a Metroid with the colors of a frozen Metroid.
Thanks for reading! Next up, the unfortunate result of Samus's Metroid genocide.
