Tetra's Crew

TETRA'S CREW

After rescuing Tetra, you return her to her crew, made up of a band of rough pirates.

These are Tetra’s crew: Gonzo, Niko, Mako, Zuko, Senza, and Nudge. They act as (mostly) allies to Link as he boards their ship to rescue his sister and stop Ganondorf.

As fighters, they are echoes of Tetra, using the same pirate-based movepool, but with varying stats for each member.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Character Sheet: Tetra's Crew

TETRA'S CREW

And here's all the characters that I gave a definitive YES to during my second chance round. They are:

1.       Fierce Deity Link

2.       Kalin

3.       Darbus

4.       Ralis

5.       Gulley

6.       Osfala

7.       Irene

8.       Rosso

9.       Queen Oren

10.   Paya

11.   Rune

12.   Kanan

13.   Talon

14.   Ingo

15.   Gwonam

16.   Tetra’s Crew

17.   Kokiri

18.   Goron

19.   Zora

20.   Rito

21.   Korok

22.   Gerudo

23.   Stalchildren

24.   Ganon Blight

Next up is Tetra's crew from Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. Just like many others here, they are perfectly reasonable echoes for Tetra herself.

Here is their moveset:

Standard B: Blunderbuss

About the same.

Side B: Arrow of Light

This one would probably have to be changed, at least to just a standard arrow or a harpoon or something.

Up B: Catapult

Same, with varying launch distance for each of the main members.

Side B: Spoils Bag

Same. Might be a bit greedier though.

Final Smash: Ship's Cannons

About the same.

Entrance: They will disembark from their ship on the gangplank.

Taunts: Up, they will show off their impressive muscles (effectiveness may vary). Side, they will carry a large treasure chest for a second. Down, they will sit and look through a bag of treasure.

Kirby Hat: Their bandanas.

Kart: Based on the ship.

Special Move: They will load onto a catapult, wait a second, and then get launched across the stage to land who knows where.

Spirit Battle: On Pirate Ship, with Tetra and Toon Link.

Victory Screen: They will sit proudly on top of some treasure.

Losing Screen: The ship will sink and they'll all evacuate on longboats.

Color Swaps: Gonzo, Niko, Zuko, Mako, Senza, Nudge, Aryll, and Anjean.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Kokiri protects the forest!

Character Sheet: Gleeok

GLEEOK

Now, let us go through and cover all characters now added thanks to their appearance in Tears of the Kingdom, either newcomers or old characters given more to work with, and at least one that got added through association. They are:

1. Tulin

2. Mineru

3. Purah

4. Rauru

5. Sonia

6. Zonai Construct

7. Gibdo

8. ReDead

9. Gleeok

10. Phantom Ganon

Gleeoks have been a feature of the Zelda series since the very beginning, generally appearing as a three-headed dragon that acts as a boss or mini-bosses. Though they've been featured regularly, it wasn't until Tears of the Kingdom, where they were brought in as new mini-bosses for the game, that they gained enough to earn themselves a spot in the roster.

Here is the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Elemental Breath

Mostly based on their Tears version, the Gleeok will breathe fire, ice, or lightning from one of its three heads, each one having something different.

Side B: Windstorm

The Gleeok will whip up heavy winds around itself with its wings, blowing opponents around.

Up B: Flight

The Gleeok will flap its mighty wings and launch itself high up into the air.

Down B: Tail Strike

The Gleeok will slash its tail forward in a circle, slamming into opponents and sending them flying. Another option could be a head-switching command, something that would swap between the ice, fire, and lightning heads being the main attacker.

Final Smash: Ultimate Elemental Attack

The Gleeok will perform one of its elemental finishers from Tears. If the switching mechanic is part of it, then it would be different each time, with the giant fireball crashing down onto the stage, ice chunks falling from the sky, and a lightning storm striking everything.

Entrance: The Gleeok will fly in and slam down onto the stage.

Taunts: Up, the fire head will blow fire into the air. Side, the lightning head will sweep its head sideways, creating a streak of lightning. Down, the ice head will create a frozen patch on the ground.

Kirby Hat: A little hat with three little fake heads on top.

Kart: Based on an Aquamentus.

Special Move: Each head will blow an element in three directions.

Spirit Battle: A giant battle on Hyrule Field.

Victory Screen: The heads will roar as lightning flashes behind them.

Losing Screen: They will let out one last roar and collapse before disappearing.

Color Swaps: Legend of Zelda model, Legend of Zelda artwork, Oracle of Seasons model, Phantom Hourglass model, Tears of the Kingdom fire, ice, lightning, and trio versions.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Phantom Ganon serves the first volley.

Tetra

TETRA

Our new Toon Link’s adventure begins as he and his sister Aryll hang out on a lookout tower, looking through their spyglass, when they see a giant bird flying over their island, carrying in its claws an unconscious young girl in pirate’s clothes.

This girl is Tetra, the fierce and sassy captain of a pirate crew passing by the island, who had been kidnapped by the bird to take to a strange dark fortress for unknown reasons. It is soon revealed that she is the long-lost descendant of Princess Zelda, making her the rightful Zelda of her time.

As a fighter, she will be quick and nimble on her feet, well trained on how to get around on a rocking vessel. She will have access to her magical abilities as Princess Zelda, but she is far more a pirate than a princess and will make far more use of the tools of that trade.

Likelihood rating: Strong.

Toon Link

TOON LINK

As Nintendo moved into its Game Cube era, so too did The Legend of Zelda. With it came a brand-new game, set on a vast ocean over a long-submerged Hyrule, complete with a distinct cel-shaded cartoon style that wasn’t well received at first but has since gone on to be celebrated by the fanbase.

With it came a cartoonish new take on Link. With big cat eyes, shrimpy little legs and arms, and a hyper-expressive face, this cartoon Link was positively . . . cute. Coming hundreds of years after the Link of Hyrule, this hero of winds takes up his predecessor’s mantle to save Hyrule once again.

As a fighter, Link will be a bit less agile on his stubby legs, but quicker with more cartoonish movements. His moveset will pull from his abilities across Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks, similar to regular Link’s but with a few features unique to him.

Likelihood rating: Already in.

Temple of the Ocean King

TEMPLE OF THE OCEAN KING

Phantom Hourglass has two major iconic locations one could choose from to represent it, one being the mysterious ghost ship created as a trap for unwitting treasure hunters by Bellum, or the Temple of the Ocean King, the sprawling temple Link and Ciela would return to time and time again in order to restore Oshus to his true form.

As Wind Waker will be represented by Tetra’s pirate ship, for the sake of variety, I went with the Temple of the Ocean King. It will be a giant-sized stage, with huge sprawling sections mirroring the familiar insides of the temple, but open so that players can see Mercay Island behind it and water below, the S.S. Linebeck occasionally floating on screen as an extra platform.

Potential theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkbuJQp2Jag

Bellum

BELLUM

Link fights his way onto the ghost ship and rescues Tetra, only to find her frozen like a statue. It is at this point that Oshus reveals the true nature of the ghost ship: that it was a trap created by an ocean demon that had stolen his life force and wanted to consume more.

This demon was Bellum, a huge tentacled beast with a hunger for life energy. Link and his allies worked together to defeat it, gathering the crystallized sands of Oshus’s life force into an hourglass to eventually restore him to his true form and take the beast down.

As a fighter, Bellum will be powerful and floaty, swimming around the stage more than walking. It will use all of its tricks from its various boss fights, including the abilities he endows a possessed Linebeck with in the final showdown.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Jolene

JOLENE

As Link travels with Ciela and Linebeck around the ocean to seek out what they need, occasionally they will be set upon by an enemy ship, captained by a female pirate dead set on getting revenge against Linebeck.

This is Jolene, a former friend and possible lover of Linebeck that he abandoned out of fear and cowardice, who now hunts for him and attacks his ship whenever she encounters it. She acts as a mini-boss of sorts that Link will have to fend off from time to time while Linebeck hides.

As a fighter, Jolene will make heavy use of her twin cutlasses, her moveset drawn almost entirely from her few battles, as well as the cannon of her ship, edged just barely into the roster with some moves from her appearance in the manga.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Linebeck

LINEBECK

In order for Link to track down the ghost ship and rescue Tetra, he will need the use of a ship to traverse the islands in the area. To that end, Oshus sends him in the direction of a local treasure hunter curious about the ghost ship himself.

This is Linebeck. He is cowardly and greedy, mostly out for treasure and less than willing to help Link in a fight, but he has a good heart deep down, which shines through when worst comes to worst. He proves a valuable ally throughout the adventure.

As a fighter, Linebeck will be quick, seeming strong but more effective when using sneaky tactics. His moveset will pull from all of his various actions throughout the game, the abilities of his vessel, the S.S. Linebeck, and some of Link’s abilities unique to this game.

Likelihood rating: Good possibility.

Oshus & Ciela

OSHUS & CIELA

The Nintendo DS games took a unique turn, acting as sequels to the 3D game Wind Waker. The story rejoined Toon Link and Tetra, out on their journey to discover a new land for their people to settle, only to encounter a strange ghost ship. Tetra, always one for adventure, leaps aboard and Toon Link tries to follow, only to wake up adrift several hours later, a concerned fairy looking him over.

This fairy is Ciela, Link’s companion for the game. She leads him to her “grandpa” Oshus, a wise old man who helps Link find the ghost ship and save Tetra. As the game goes on, Oshus reveals himself to be the almighty Ocean King, trapped in human form by a curse, and Ciela is revealed to be a spirit of courage, her memory lost to the same curse.

As fighters, Oshus and Ciela will work together. Oshus will be a bit on the slow side, but his impressive ocean abilities will more than make up for it. His moveset will pull from the magic he performs as an old man, his abilities as the Ocean King, Ciela’s abilities, and some features of his temple from the game.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Character Sheet: Jolene

JOLENE

Alright, so we did have one more semi-big character list in us. Let's get into it! This is all characters I could pull out originating from the Legend of Zelda manga, or were given just enough of a boost by the manga to make it into our rankings. They are:

1. Maple

2. Jolene

3. Ricky

4. Captain Stalfos

5. Manga Link

6. Riruto

7. Manga Zelda

8. Raska

9. Tou

10. Ghanti

11. Gonza

12. Kala

13. Captain Arjuna

14. Sir Raven

15. Biri

16. Com

17. Gump

18. Shemlon

19. Rouro

20. Ganon's Minion

21. Ganon's Heart

22. Ganos

23. Haggis

Next up is Jolene, another secondary character from the games who got a boost in her manga portrayal. In the games, Jolene is a pirate captain dead set on hunting down Linebeck for unspecified reasons, though there is some hint that they were lovers and he ran out on her. The manga adaptation by Himekawa Akira is much more blatant about this, with her acting as part of the effort to save Linebeck after he becomes possessed by Bellum.

Across the game and manga, her abilities don't vary too much, with her attacking the S.S. Linebeck frequently with her ship's cannons and then dueling Link with her twin swords, generally in a jumping slash or in a block. However, her presence in the manga did remind me that she is very much a close associate of Linebeck, so there are parts of his moveset that can just as easily be attributed to her, so, I think we can make it.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ship's Cannons

One of her ship's cannons will appear and fire a projectile forward at high speed, just like Linebeck's. but probably a little stronger.

Side B: Jumping Slash

She will leap forward and slash with her twin blades, just like in the game.

Up B: Tornado

Borrowed a bit from Linebeck, but let's be honest, if he can be warped around the map by tornado, I'm sure it's a common trend for pirates like her too.

Down B: Guard

She will hold up her two blades in an X-shape in front of her, blocking and parrying any hits coming her way.

Final Smash: Pirate Ship

Her ship will appear in the background, racing up to the stage and bombarding it as if she had spotted Linebeck aboard it. (Bonus points if Linebeck was actually in the fight).

Entrance: She will stand at the prow of her boat and jump off.

Taunts: Up, she will stand proudly with her sword in the air. Side, she will cross her arms and look off to one side. Down, she will let out a frustrated growl.

Thanks for reading! Next, yet another companion from the Oracles games who got a boost.

Wow, that's a lot. If we get more (and we will) I may have to consider where to put some splits. Until then, next week, we split all the remaining non-remakes into two groups. First, all the general miscellaneous games (Hyrule Warriors, Cadence of Hyrule, so on), and then two subgroups, both of which are rather . . . infamous. Either way, Hyrule Warriors is first.

Character Sheet: Bellum

BELLUM

Today, we begin a new round of character sheets, all primarily appearing in the 2D titles from Oracles to Tri Force Heroes. We have quite a few, though not as many as the 3D titles. Among them are:

1. Four Links

2. Ravio

3. Princess Hilda

4. Toon Zelda

5. Din

6. Nayru

7. Ezlo

8. Minish/Picori

9. Linebeck

10. Oshus & Ciela

11. Ralph

12. Alfonzo

13. Madame Couture

14. Subrosian

15. Onox

16. Veran

17. Vaati

18. Bellum

19. Chancellor Cole & Malladus

20. Yuga

21. Lady Maud

22. Byrne

Today, we cover one of the most unique, at least in my opinion, main villains in the Zelda series. It's . . . just a sea monster, really. A sea monster that infested the Ocean King's temple and uses a ghost ship as a lure to draw in its prey. No secret Ganon plot, no ancient evil sealed away like Majora or Vaati, just a sea monster.

Being a sea monster, it swims a lot and has big long tentacles that it swipes around an attacks with. It can also hang from above during its major boss fights. It also drops blobs during its fight and spews toxic pink goop everywhere. Naturally, its ghost ship is also here, and we can't forget its big final battle, where it possesses Linebeck's body and becomes Bellumbeck, wielding a sword and being able to spin like a tornado.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Toxic Spray

It will spray a bunch of its pink goop forward, dealing poison damage and leaving a trail of it behind on the stage, that will act a bit like Inkling paint, but with that damage factor to it.

Side B: Tentacle Possession

It will lash out with one of its tentacles, which, if it lands, will stick to an opponent and put them under its control until the player can break free.

Up B: Spinning Tornado

Based a bit on Bellumbeck's move but also with its own ability to hang from above, Bellum will spin rapidly upward. If a ceiling is above it, it will cling there for a short time.

Down B: Blobs

Bellum will drop blobs on the ground behind it, leaving them there as sticky traps for anyone who passes over them.

Final Smash: Ghost Ship

The Ghost Ship will appear, crossing the stage in a fog. It will have a vacuum effect, drawing in all characters. Every character unable to escape will be left behind as statues once the ship has left, unable to move for an extended period of time.

Entrance: It will burst from a whirlpool.

Taunts: Up, it will leap into the air like a whale breaching. Side, it will draw out Bellumbeck on one of its tentacles and wiggle him around. Down, it will dive into a puddle of water, one of its tentacles sticking out and looking around.

Thanks for reading! Next up, the villains of Spirit Tracks.

Character Sheet: Oshus & Ciela

OSHUS & CIELA

Today, we begin a new round of character sheets, all primarily appearing in the 2D titles from Oracles to Tri Force Heroes. We have quite a few, though not as many as the 3D titles. Among them are:

1. Four Links

2. Ravio

3. Princess Hilda

4. Toon Zelda

5. Din

6. Nayru

7. Ezlo

8. Minish/Picori

9. Linebeck

10. Oshus & Ciela

11. Ralph

12. Alfonzo

13. Madame Couture

14. Subrosian

15. Onox

16. Veran

17. Vaati

18. Bellum

19. Chancellor Cole & Malladus

20. Yuga

21. Lady Maud

22. Byrne

Today, we'll be covering a pair of companions from Phantom Hourglass, whom I stuck together, mainly because they are closely linked in the game, Ciela being a young fairy who calls Oshus her grandpa, and Oshus being an old man who is secretly the Ocean King trapped in human form. Oshus acts as your mentor throughout the game, while Ciela acts as your "Navi"gator of sorts. Between the two of them, I think they have just enough.

The biggest thing for us here is Oshus's true nature as the Ocean King, which gives us all of the elements of his temple as well as his powers in his true form. The Temple specifically comes with safe zones that will protect you from Phantoms, wandering Phantoms themselves, and Phantom Eyes that freeze you in place and alert Phantoms to your presence. He also carries the Phantom Hourglass which allows one to traverse the temple without taking damage from the temple's curse. Ciela can also provide Link with sword beams and Phantom Spheres that freeze opponents, and her sisters Leaf and Neri can help stun enemies and halve the damage taken by Link. I think, between it all, we have plenty.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Phantom Hourglass

So, for this character we will have a mechanic in play. Oshus will have a little hourglass meter by his face, that will fill up with sand for every attack he pulls off. Once it is full, he will be able to activate it with this button, and he will become invulnerable to harm until the sand runs out.

Side B: Stunning Slash

He will slash with Oshus's sword, stunning and freezing an opponent in place with it for a second thanks to Ciela and her sisters' magic.

Up B: Teleportation

Based on his general ability to teleport from place to place, he will raise his staff into the air and disappear, reappearing higher up.

Down B: Safe Zone

He will cause a safe zone around himself that opponents will not be able to enter. Projectiles can still be fired in, however.

Final Smash: King of the Ocean

He will leap from the stage and crash back down as the Ocean King, creating two huge tidal waves crashing outward from his body.

Entrance: He will appear out of nowhere.

Taunts: Up, Ciela, Leaf, and Neri will circle around each other happily above him. Side, he will plant his staff as an ocean breeze blows around him. Down, he will chuckle merrily behind his mustache.

Thanks for reading! Next up, some less "companion-y" characters, starting with Nayru's protector Ralph.

Character Sheet: Linebeck

LINEBECK

Today, we begin a new round of character sheets, all primarily appearing in the 2D titles from Oracles to Tri Force Heroes. We have quite a few, though not as many as the 3D titles. Among them are:

1. Four Links

2. Ravio

3. Princess Hilda

4. Toon Zelda

5. Din

6. Nayru

7. Ezlo

8. Minish/Picori

9. Linebeck

10. Oshus & Ciela

11. Ralph

12. Alfonzo

13. Madame Couture

14. Subrosian

15. Onox

16. Veran

17. Vaati

18. Bellum

19. Chancellor Cole & Malladus

20. Yuga

21. Lady Maud

22. Byrne

Honestly, though, how was he not in Hyrule Warriors? Anyway, today, we are talking about Linebeck, a cowardly pirate who acts as your ride throughout Phantom Hourglass, taking you all over the map on his small steamboat, the S.S. Linebeck, and kinda ending up as your final boss when his body is used as a puppet by Bellum.

Although he could easily be a gimmick rep, I'd prefer to keep all of his moves to those connected to his boat, if I can. Across the game, we see a lot of the same basic principles as connected to the King of Red Lions, such as a ship's cannon, a salvage arm to look for treasure, and the ability to warp via tornado (so his moveset will certainly be similar to Daphnes's, at least), along with an anchor, and a drill that can be attached to the front. He also likes to hide in a box whenever confronted by Jolene.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ship's Cannon

He will pull out his ship's cannon and fire it, using much the same animation seen in the game with its usage.

Side B: Hull Drill

Just because I want to be more creative than using the salvage arm again (even though it's totally something Linebeck would use), let's have the front of his ship's hull, with the drill attached, and have him plow forward with it spinning.

Up B: Tornado

Pretty basic, he'll be flung spinning skyward by a tornado from the game.

Down B: Hideaway

Apparently spotting Jolene on the horizon, he will hide himself inside of the large box contained inside his ship. This box can be destroyed if hit hard enough.

Final Smash: S.S. Linebeck

A tidal wave will crash over the stage, Linebeck's ship appearing and plowing across it, striking everyone near the ground.

Entrance: He will poke his head up out of his box.

Taunts: Up, he will open a treasure map and hold it up to get a better look at it. Side, he will cross his arms arrogantly, then look back with a fearful look. Down, he will open up a treasure chest and look excited.

Thanks for reading! Next up, a pair of other major companions from Phantom Hourglass.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: PHANTOM HOURGLASS

It's not often we see a direct 2D sequel to a 3D game. Generally, sequels in this series tend to go by console generation, hence Ocarina and Majora both for the 64, Four Swords and Minish Cap both being Game Boy Advance, and Breath of the Wild and its sequel being on the Switch, and yet here we are, a DS sequel to a Game Cube game, with Toon Link and Tetra off on another adventure on the Great Sea. This time, we see Tetra and her crew come upon a mysterious ghost ship, Tetra hop aboard to explore it, only for the ship to disappear and take her with it.

Toon Link is our protagonist, naturally, and he is joined by a fairy companion named Ciela. In this game, he has a lot of his basics, like his sword and shield, his bow and arrows, his boomerang, and his bombs, alongside the bombchu, the shovel, the hammer, and the grappling hook. He also carries with him the titular Phantom Hourglass, which allows him to traverse the Temple of the Ocean King (a major recurring location) without being affected by the temple's draining effects.

For our secondary characters, Tetra returns of course, turned to stone for a majority of the game, but generally doing her standard pirate-y stuff when she's not. Link also has three major companions: the fairy Ciela, a wise old man called Oshus, and a cowardly treasure hunter named Linebeck whose ship Link uses to travel around the map. Linebeck, obviously, can take on any aspect of his ship, so we have a cannon, a salvage arm, an anchor, a drill on the hull should you choose to buy it, being carried off in a tornado, and so on. He has also been known to hide in a box, so there's that. Oshus is eventually revealed to be the Ocean King, trapped in his old man form by the demon Bellum. Obviously he has his true form, and he can also teleport, fuse things with magic, and a number of elements of his temple can probably be attributed to him to, like the safe zones to protect yourself from Phantoms.

Other minor NPCs include Jolene, a female pirate who has been hunting Linebeck for abandoning her, who has her own ship complete with cannons, who duels link with her cutlasses, including a lunging and blocking maneuver (hmm, I'm not sure she's there yet. Might have to wait and see about the comics). Then there's minor characters like the smith Zauz, the fortune teller Astrid, and Beedle. The Anouki are also a race of ice-dwellers, but they mostly just fill NPC roles, so . . . not much to go on.

Bellum is the main villain this time around, and being around the time that people started to criticize the trend of Ganon hijacking the plot, it remains the main villain. It is a nightmarish sea demon that infested the Temple of the Ocean King and stripped Oshus of his powers. It can swim around or hang from above, attack with its tentacles, throw blobs and spew pink goop, and created the ghost ship as a lure to draw in sailors. It also possessed Linebeck toward the end, making use of his sword and spinning like a tornado.

Our bosses include: Blaaz, a master of fire; Cyclok, an Octorok with power over winds; Crayk, a giant hermit crab; the Diabolical Cubus Sisters who guard the ghost ship and shoot lasers; Dongorongo, sort of like a Dodongo; a Gleeok; and Eox, a giant stone warrior. A couple of mini-bosses also include a giant Eye Plant, a whale creature called Massive Eye, Jolene whenever she catches up with you, and the Phantoms, walking suits of armor armed with swords and shields, who will go on to play a massive role in the next game, so . . . more on that.

After that, our returning enemies include Chuchus, Octoroks, Rats, Crows, Tektites, Bubbles, Keese, Miniblins, Pols Voices, Moldorms, Poes, Skulltulas, Like Likes, Armos, Hinox, Beetles, and Stalfos. New enemies include Eye Slugs (the name says it all really), Reaplings (basically Grim Reapers), Sandworms, and Geozards (which kinda look like old-timey Zoras, but on land).

Being similar to Wind Waker, most of the important locations in this game are random islands scattered across a map, ranging from heavily important to . . . just kind of a random island. The most important here is Mercay Island, where Link washes up and where the Temple of the Ocean King is located. You get between all of these islands by boat, and our boats include Tetra's ship, the Ghost Ship, and the S.S. Linebeck. From there, our major dungeons include the Temple of Fire, the Temple of Wind, the Temple of Courage, the Goron Temple, the Temple of Ice, and Mutoh's Temple.

And that's pretty much it. Here's what we've got so far:
