Character Sheet: Ashley & Red (Wario Ware)

ASHLEY & RED

Let's begin our character sheets for our Wario Ware characters. Although it felt a little touch and go there, with most gameplay not being tied to the characters themselves, each one did do enough across the nine games to warrant their inclusion, with the only one I really had to fudge a little being Mike. (At that point, with everyone else in, it just felt a little wrong to leave him out). Either way, here they are:

1. Wario
2. Biker Wario
3. Mona
4. Jimmy T.
5. Ashley & Red
6. 9-Volt
7. 18-Volt
8. 5-Volt
9. Kat and Ana
10. Young Cricket
10e. Master Mantis
11. Dribble & Spitz
12. Dr. Crygor
12e. Penny Crygor
13. Mike
14. Orbulon
15. Lulu

Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion? You'd better learn her name, because it's Ashley! She knows the darkest spells and she brews the meanest potions. You might be the ingredient she seeks. Don't let yourself be fooled by her innocent demeanor. You'd better be afraid of the great Ashley! Ashley and her demonic companion Red first debuted in Wario Ware Touched, four games into the series, but quickly became a fan favorite, appearing in every game since (except Snapped), and making appearances as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros.

Most of her stories in the games feature her trying and often failing to brew a potion, learn a spell, or summon a demon. In Touched, she brewed a potion only to mess it up and send Red to try and catch Orbulon to fix it. In Smooth Moves, she attempts to cast a spell on a potted plant, receives instruction from a cursed spellbook, and ends up changing it into a giant monster plant. In D.I.Y., she is filming a movie with Red, with a number of ghosts as the crew. In Game & Wario, she transports herself accidentally into a world of candy and cookies, and has to get out by flying on her broom and using Red as a wand to cast spells, in a bullet hell-shooter style game. Finally, in Gold, she transports herself into the demon world to stop a demon from eating all the food there. She can also maybe grow gigantic as shown when Orbulon bumps into her, and she brings a mandrake for the pot-luck picnic with the other characters. Her microgames tend to vary, though food is a very common motif for her.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Red
This one is to control Red and determine what he does in the fight. If he is in wand form, using this move will send him out away from you to attack on his own, similar to the Lumas. If he is already separate from you, this move will call him back and turn him into a wand again, and your attack power will go up as a result.

Side B: Monster Plant
She will use her wand and spellbook to cast a spell directly ahead of her, which, once it touches the ground, will explode into a monster plant and wrap its vines around you and hold you fast. The size changes depending on Red's current state.

Up B: Broomstick
Ashley will hop on her broom and circle into the sky. Pretty basic really here. If Red is in wand form, he will shoot off spells directly below you as you do.

Down B: Potion
This one will be a staged move, similar to Villager's tree. First she will place her pot down on the ground. The second time, you can stir the pot. Finally the third time, Ashley will wave her wand and lightning from the sky will strike where the other players are currently standing.

Final Smash: Pantalones Gigantus
Ashley will grow to her ginormous, white-haired size and cast the spell in the song, generally causing the other players' clothing to expand to ridiculous proportions and send them flying.

Entrance: She and Red will fly out of a portal into her spellbook.

Taunts: Ashley's glower she does whenever she feels insecure, maybe her and Red playing, pulling out a mandrake, etc.

Thanks for reading about the coolest girl you'll ever meet! Next up, let's visit that Nintendo nerd, 9-Volt!
