I’m holding off on all of that until we are finished with the mainline games.

29.  I think it’s fair to say that Bomb, Clean, Cutter, Fighter, Fire, Hammer (if Bonkers at least), Freeze, Needle, Ninja, Parasol, Spark, and Stone will all have a playable fighter, so the most recurring one or two users of it are already a shoe-in.

And that's it! Next up, I . . . probably should wait on all the extra stuff until it's completely finished, shouldn't I? In that case, say, who's that dark and mysterious figure in the mirror there?

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

KIRBY 64: THE CRYSTAL SHARDS

And now, the first 3D game, or, well, the first game with 3D graphics. It's still a 2D sidescroller, but hey, that's Kirby. The plot tells the story of Ribbon, a young fairy whose home was invaded by Dark Matter, who fled to Pop Star and met Kirby who then agreed to help her, with King Dedede, Waddle Dee, and Adeleine joining in the quest as well.

Kirby is our playable character, and brings with him most of his standards. His copy abilities this time include: Burn (Fire, Fireball, Burning, here's another name), Stone (which makes him indestructible but still mobile now), Ice, Needle (now turning him into a big spiky ball), Bomb, Spark, and Cutter. All of these can be combined into a bunch of unique combinations. To save myself time, I'm just going to mark them all down in the wrap-up section below.

Ribbon is Kirby's companion, serving a sort of Navi-type role. While she and Adeleine were combined in Star Allies, I understand that was done to represent them both while only having one 64 rep, so we don't have to do that ourselves. If anything, Ribbon is the most obvious gimmick rep candidate. As for the other allies, King Dedede can float and body slam and smack things with his hammer. Waddle Dee brings with him a bunch of gadgets, including a boat, a sled, and a mine cart, and can also break through walls. He turns into a Waddle Doo during his early boss fight. Adeleine paints items for Kirby and shows him hints, and during her boss battle, she draws monsters and attacks with her paint brush.

Dark Matter is our main villain once again. In his boss fight, you start out fighting Miracle Matter, a dice of eyeballs that can use attacks based on all of Kirby's copy abilities. After that, you fight 0², the new Zero, who fires explosive orbs, flies with wings, and spews green gas from its tail. As for the other bosses, Whispy Woods tosses fruit, shoots out roots, and has Whispy Woods Jr.'s that follow you around. Pix is a trio of shapes in red, blue, and green, which slash and shoot projectiles. Acro returns, spitting enemies as projectiles, body slamming, and charging Kirby. Magman is a large blob of lava that attacks with tendrils, creates earthquakes, and breathes fire. HR-H is a giant robot that attacks with its arms and shoots missiles, then turns into a lobster and attacks with its claws.

The mini-bosses are all just really big versions of regular enemies. Our returning non-copy enemies include Bouncy, Bronto Burt, Gabon, Glunk, Gordo, Kany, Mariel, Mopoo, Mumbies, Nruff, Pteran, Scarfy, and Zebon, alongside newcomers like Bivolt, Bo, Bonehead, Bumber, Chacha, Drop, Flopper, Flora, Flutter, Glom, Gobblin, I3, Ignus, Keke, Mahall, Maw, Mite, N-Z, Noo, Pupa, Putt, Sandman, Slushy, Snipper, Squibby, and Yariko.

The stages this time around include: Pop Star, the generic starter stage; Rock Star, a desert world; Aqua Star, a beach world; Neo Star, a jungle world; Shiver Star, an ice world; Ripple Star, Ribbon's home world; and Dark Star, where Dark Matter is.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

KIRBY'S DREAM LAND 3

Next up, we have Kirby's Dream Land 3 for the SNES. This one is very similar to its prequel, with Dark Matter returning to Pop Star, this time extending his tendrils to each of the planet's five points to conquer it. Kirby heads out with six animal buddies this time, as well as his friend Gooey, a piece of friendly Dark Matter.

Kirby is our playable character with all the same basic moves he's accustomed to, while Gooey acts as Player 2, using a tongue version of Kirby's various moves. They can both use copy abilities, this time being: Burning, Clean (which lets them sweep dust with a broom), Cutter, Ice, Needle, Parasol, Spark, and Stone. They also can use the Love-Love Stick, with Gooey transforming into "Mock Matter" to do so.

Rick, Coo, and Kine return, bringing with them Chuchu the Octopus, Nago the Cat, and Pitch the bird. Chuchu rides on Kirby's head, Nago carries Kirby in its arms, and Pitch is held by Kirby. Rick's remain the same for all returning moves, while Clean gives him a feather duster. Coo's do to, while Clean turns him into a feather duster. Kine's likewise remain the same, but Clean gives him a plunger. As for sweet Chuchu (my favorite), Burning turns her into a hot-air balloon, Clean gives her a magic broom, Cutter turns her into an axe, Ice lets her throw snowballs, Needle lets her shoot out needles, Parasol lets her ride around in it while it spins, Spark shoots a laser from her tentacle, and Stone will let her swing Kirby around like a club. As for Nago, Burning creates a pillar of fire, Clean lets him push Kirby along the ground like a rag, Cutter creates a crescent energy beam, Ice propels him into the air, Needle shoots spikes forward, Parasol lets them use a pogo stick, Spark turns Kirby into a ball of static, and Stone turns Kirby into a hammer. And finally for Pitch, Burning turns him into a giant fireball, Clean turns him into a bucket full of water to be splashed, Cutter turns him into a boomerang, Ice turns him into a snow machine, Needle sends him flying forward like a dart, Parasol gets him treated like a golf ball, Spark turns him into a remote control drone, and Stone sends him launching into the air and then back down hard.

King Dedede returns as a boss, controlled by Dark Matter again. The first half of his battle is standard, but the second half sees him sprouting a mouth and eye from his belly that shoots dark orbs (seriously wtf, Kirby series?). Dark Matter is our main villain, shooting beams and tossing orange spheres at Kirby. After he is defeated, you face Dark Matter's core Zero, a giant eyeball that squirts blood at you, summons mini-Dark Matters, and bursts its iris and pupil out of the rest of it (seriously, wtf, Kirby series?!).

As for our bosses, Whispy Woods returns, shooting air, spitting vegetables, and . . . uprooting himself and walking around. Well, there goes that final barrier for roster inclusion. Welcome aboard. Acro is a killer whale who spits things at Kirby and tries to ram into him. Pon and Con are a raccoon and fox that just kinda wander around with their babies in tow. Adeleine, or I guess Ado in this game, is a young painter who can make her paintings come to life. These paintings include Ice Dragon, Sweet Stuff, Shine & Bright, and Kracko from Dream Land 2, with all the same basic stuff.

The mini-bosses include Blocky again, a big ball of fire named Boboo, Captain Stitch, a giant sweeping broom named Haboki, Jumpershoot, and a snowman named Yuki that throws its head at you. Our non-copy enemies include: Kabu, Blipper, Bouncy, Bronto Burt, Cappy, Gabon, Glunk, Gordo, Kany, Mumbies, Nruff, Poppy Bros, Propeller, Scarfy, Squishy, and Waddle Dees with rafts and ghostly jars, alongside newcomers Apolo, Babut, Batamon, Como, Corori, Dogon, Doka, Joe, Loud, Madoo, Mariel, Mopoo, Mony, Nidoo, Oro, Pacto, Pesara, Peloo, Peran, Polof, Popon, Pteran, Yabon, and Zebon.

Our stages this time include Grass Land, a basic stage; Ripple Field, a beach area; Sand Canyon, a desert area; Cloudy Park, a sky level; Iceberg, a snow level; and Hyper Zone, the area inside of Dark Matter.

That should be it! Here's everything we've got so far:

Kirby Super Star

KIRBY SUPER STAR

Next up is Kirby Super Star, the be-all-and-end-all game for Kirby representation as far as Smash is concerned considering nearly everything that appears in those games comes from this game or prior, save stickers/spirits and a couple of attacks, not to mention it has two dedicated stages and a boss. Side note, this was the last mainline Kirby game that Sakurai directed personally, a fact that makes the above feel more than a little sus. (Sakurai, you lettin' a little bit of bias show there? No hate, but, like, Lor Starcutter or anything from Robobot would have been awesome stages).

This game is sectioned off into seven distinct story segments: Spring Breeze, a truncated version of the original game; Dyna Blade, which sees a giant bird terrorizing the land; Gourmet Race, a race between Kirby and King Dedede; The Great Cave Offensive, a huge open-map exploration area; The Revenge of Meta Knight, featuring the first appearance of the Halberd; Milky Way Wishes, the Marx section of the story; and The Arena, a fighting tournament.

Kirby is our protagonist as always, with all his basic moves. He can also get Helpers, a precursor to Star Allies' mechanic, where enemies can become CPU companions. His new copy abilities include: Bomb, which lets Kirby throw bombs; Cook, which lets him pull out a pot and suck all enemies into it; Copy, which lets Kirby scan enemies and copy more abilities; Fighter, which gives him a number of martial arts moves and shoot energy blasts; Jet, which lets him fly forward quickly; Mirror, which throws Kirby's reflections and reflects attacks; Ninja, which gives Kirby ninja weapons like a katana and shurikens and other abilities; Paint lets him splatter paint; Plasma shoots electric blasts and builds static; Suplex is basically Backdrop; Wing lets you fly and shoot feathers; and Yo-Yo lets you attack with a yo-yo. The returning include Beam (with a projectile blast added), Crash, Cutter, Fire (both Fire and Fireball/Burning combined), Hammer, Ice (Ice and Freeze combined), Mike, Parasol, Sleep, Stone, Sword, and Wheel.

Kirby's helpers include Bio Spark (Ninja), Birdon (Wing), Blade Knight (Sword), Bonkers (Hammer), Bugzzy (Suplex), Burnin' Leo (Fire), Capsule J (Jet), Chilly (Ice), Gim (Yo-Yo), Knuckle Joe (Fighter), Parasol Waddle Dee (Parasol), Plasma Wisp (Plasma), Poppy Bros (Bomb), Rocky (Stone), Simirror (Mirror), Sir Kibble (Cutter), Tac (Copy), Waddle Doo (Beam), and Wheelie (Wheel). I guess my stance with Star Allies applies here too. Luckily most are the reps from Star Allies and any clashing pairs can be echoes.

King Dedede is a main antagonist throughout the various stories, with most of the standard moves. Meta Knight appears as the main villain of the Revenge of Meta Knight, with the added power to spin and create a small twister during an attack. Bandana Waddle Dee appears for the first time in a small mini-game where he punches a block of wood to break it. Finally, we have Marx, the main villain of Milky Way Wishes, where he wishes on a being called Nova for the power to destroy the universe. During his battle, he sprouts wings, drops orbs from above, blasts lightning, burrows underground, teleports, fires light arrows, throws up a big ball, and summons a black hole.

As for other bosses, we have Whispy Woods again, pretty much the same, except he also gets a partner to do team attacks with. Lolo and Lala also return, as does Kracko, both playing much the same as they do in the original game. Dynablade is a giant bird that can fly around, attack with her beak and talons, swoop really face, and spit projectiles from her mouth, all to protect her eggs. There's also Fatty Whale, who rolls, spews from his blowhole, and body slams; a Computer Virus that plays a D&D style RPG game with you, with all the little sprites and command menus and stuff; Chameleo Arm, a chameleon that attacks with its tongue and claws; Wham Bam Rock, a disembodied face with giant stone hands; Heavy Lobster, a machine that spews fire, charges, and sends out minions.

Our mini-bosses include the returns of Bonkers and Bugzzy (both play the same), Chef Kawasaki (who has an extendable pan, a pot, and throwing plates), Iron Mam (who throws extendo-punches), Jukid (who throws energy blasts or grabs and slams him down), Meta Knight's four Meta-Knights once again, Mr. Frosty (who is also trying to swallow Kirby and spit him out), and the Sr. version of a Poppy Bro. Our non-copy enemies include Blippers, Bounders, Bronto Burts, Broom Hatters, Cappies, Glunks, Gordos, Grizzos, Kabus, Slippies, Squishies, Twizzies, and Waddle Dees, with newcomers Gators, Lovelies, and Tookies added in.

I'm willing to let the Story Segments act as the "Stages" (technically it would be Battleship Halberd, I know, but still). And nothing major item-wise.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

KIRBY'S DREAM LAND 2

Next comes Kirby's Dream Land 2 for the Game Boy Color, the first appearance of Dark Matter, as well as Kirby's animal buddies Rick, Coo, and Kine. The plot goes that King Dedede becomes possessed by an Eldritch cosmic being that steals the rainbows connecting the islands of Dream Land, so Kirby and his pets set out to stop him.

As always, Kirby is our main protagonist. He does all his basics, floating, inhaling, and spitting stars, on top of his copy abilities. He also has his pets: Rick the Hamster, who carries Kirby on his back; Coo the Owl, who flies carrying Kirby; and Kine the Fish, who swims with Kirby in his mouth. These three also have unique effects based on the copy ability of Kirby, meaning that yes, all three have more than enough for their own individual movesets, and that each copy ability can count those things to their number.

At its base, Kirby only has seven copy abilities, those being: Burning, which is the same as Fireball from before; Cutter, acting the same; Ice, kind of a combo of Ice and Freeze from before, with the ice block standard; Needle, the same as before; Parasol, with the same three abilities; Spark, with the same electric field; and Stone, acting the same as before. Burning will give Rick fire breath, turn Coo into a meteor, and let Kine spit a fireball. Cutter will let Rick throw Kirby, Coo throw three feather darts, and Kine to spit a laser. Ice will turn Rick into a snowman, give Coo icy breath, and freeze the water around Kine. Needle will cause Rick to grow quills, Coo to carry a spiky Kirby upside down, and Kine to grow spikes. Parasol will let Rick bounce Kirby like a ball, Coo to gain a spin attack, and give Kine a shield. Spark will basically give Rick the Beam ability, Coo a lightning blast, and Kine a lightbulb in the dark. And finally Stone will turn Rick into a rolling boulder, make Coo divebomb straight down, and make Kine sink.

As for our allies, Gooey is a little blob of friendly Dark Matter who will show up in bags and restore your health. There's also a "Girl Blob" who does the same but shows up more rarely. King Dedede is friendly in this game, but is a boss through Dark Matter possession, with all of his basics, being floating, his hammer, inhaling, body slamming, and jumping high into the air.

The main villain is Dark Matter, who first appears as a mysterious swordsman, slashing with his sword, shooting beams from it, and charging up an energy orb, and then revealing his true form as a giant eye surrounded by murky black . . . stuff, at which point he shoots dark beams at Kirby and sends out a bunch of orbs at him.

As for our bosses, Whispy Woods returns, apparently during an epidemic judging by the mask, dropping apples and spitting air, while also sending up roots now. Nruff and Nelly are a pair of pigs that charge around. Sweet Stuff is a giant angler fish that bits, shoots lasers from its light, and summons enemies. Ice Dragon can launch itself into the air, breathe icy breath, kick icy spikes, and pound the ground to make icicles. Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright also return with the same gimmick, but this time Shine rolls, throws boomerangs and causes stars to fall, while Bright attacks with fire, drops meteors, and spawns stars, and together they can cause an eclipse. Kracko and Kracko Jr. also return, shooting beams and tossing orbs at Kirby.

As for our midbosses, Blocky returns, as does Mr. Frosty, with his same freezing and ice block attacks. We also have: Captain Stitch, a large Gordo that shoots its spikes at Kirby; Efreeti, who charges Kirby like a meteor; Jumpershoot is a Kasa-obake (haunted umbrella yokai) that can jump, spin, and throw sandals; Master Green is a jellyfish that shoots lightning and generates an electrical field; and Waiu is a ninja who throws cutter blades, attacks with a katana, shoots burning stars, and can move through the air quickly.

Finally, we have our non-copy enemies. These include old favorites like Blippers, Bronto Burts, Broom Hatters, Cappies, Glunks, Gordos, Kabus, Mumbies, Poppy Bros, Scarfies, Slippies, Squishies, and Waddle Dees, as well as newcomers Bouncy, Crack-Tweet, Elieel, Propeller, and Blade, Butch, and Masher (legally distinct Meta Knights).

Our stages include: Grass Land, the starter area; Big Forest, a forest level; Ripple Field, a beach area; Iceberg, a snow level; Red Canyon, a mountain region; Cloudy Park, a sky/volcano region; and Dark Castle, the big final area. Maxim Tomatoes, 1ups, Energy Drinks, Point Stars, and Rainbow Drops are our items.

Kirby's Adventure

KIRBY'S ADVENTURE

Next up is Kirby's Adventure for the NES, the game that set up most of the Kirby staples, such as Meta Knight, copy abilities, and twist villains. The story follows Kirby as he journeys to take the Star Rod back from King Dedede, not realizing that he took it to stop a powerful being called Nightmare from breaking free into their world.

Kirby has a lot of his basics, like floating, inhaling, and spitting out stars after inhaling, but this is also where we first see copy abilities. Now, it's time to discuss what I'll be doing with the Copy Ability Enemies. So, every game has a selection of enemies who act as the provider of said copy ability. Naturally, each of these would be perfect for the rep of that ability, but there is generally a lot of them. Typically there is one or two standards who appear in most games, as well as some one-offs here and there. Since we have room for two, I'm keeping track on a separate chart all the enemies and how many times they appear. The standards take priority for the rep (Sir Kibble for Cutter obviously), and the Star Allies are an automatic, and I will instead be keeping track of all the little add-ons for the abilities here, to see if each adds up to a full moveset.

These abilities are: Backdrop, which lets Kirby suplex enemies; Ball, which turns Kirby into a bouncy ball; Beam, which has a sparkly whip attack; Crash, which makes Kirby explode; Cutter, which sends out a boomerang blade; Fire, which gives him fire breath; Fireball, which kinda turns him into a meteor; Freeze, which gives him ice powers; Hammer, which gives Kirby a hammer that can be swung or pounded; Hi-Jump, which lets Kirby jump straight up; Ice, where he breathes a cone of frost; Laser, which gives him a laser beam; Light, which lets him light up dark rooms; Mike, which gives him a sonic attack; Needle, which gives him spikes; Parasol, which he can use to float, attack, or defend; Sleep, which puts him to sleep; Spark, which puts out an electric field around him; Stone, which turns Kirby into a heavy block; Sword, which gives him a sword and a spinning midair strike; Throw, which lets him throw things; Tornado, which lets him spin and even float a bit; UFO, which lets him fly and shoot projectiles; Wheel, which lets him roll really fast; and the Star Rod, which technically counts but is more like a special ability granted for the end of the game.

As for Kirby's supporting cast, we have King Dedede, the supposed villain of the game, who can toss out eggs and bombs, charge forward, swing his hammer, float, and inhale. Meta Knight is another recurring boss who wields a sword that he can use to slash or stab downward, uses his cape to shield or fly, and disappears. Meta Knight also has a band of knights called Axe Knight, Mace Knight, Javelin Knight, and Trident Knight, who all use said weapons in various ways.

Next we have Nightmare, the main villain. He can turn into an orb that shoots stars and crescents at Kirby, can float in midair and sweep around, and uses his cape to shield himself. Other bosses include Whispy Woods, the living tree that drops apples and spits air; Paint Roller, a pre-Adeleine type who can summon items by drawing them on his canvases; Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright, a sun and moon who take turns on the land or sky, attacking with fire or little moon boomerangs; Kracko, a living cloud that can attack with lightning and summon enemies, and also has a little Jr. form; and Heavy Mole, which can dig, claw, and shoot missiles.

As for the mini-bosses, technically they offer up copy abilities themselves, but there's often a little extra,  so . . . Mr. Frosty is a walrus that charges at you or throws blocks of ice; Mr. Tick Tock is a clock that attacks with sonic blasts and music notes; Bugzzy is a giant beetle who can grab you in his pincers and slam you into the ground, fly, and send out little ladybugs to attack; Bonkers is a monkey man wielding a hammer, who can jump high, run fast, and throws coconuts at you; Rolling Turtle is a turtle that rolls around and throws his shell at you; and the Fire Lion can pounce, chew on you, or turn into a fireball.

As for our non-copy enemies, we have Waddle Dees, Blippers, Bronto Burts, Broom Hatters, Cappies, Glunks, Gordos, Kabus, Poppy Bros, Scarfies, Squishies, and Twizzies all returning, as well as Bounders, Coners, and Slippies coming in as new enemies.

As for stages, we have the basic Vegetable Valley, the beachy Ice Cream Island, the castle Butter Building, the sky zone Grape Garden, the mountainous Yogurt Yard, the aquatic Orange Ocean, and the finale world Rainbow Resort, as well as the Fountain of Dreams from the true ending. Items like cannons and warp stars also appear.

Kirby's Dream Land

KIRBY'S DREAM LAND

And we're back with the Kirby series now! Things are going to be a little bit different, hopefully go by a lot faster. We'll still do our little batches of games, then break them up with one big character sheet with the four moves + final for each character, and then do all the rest of the stuff as their own separate sheets, saving the individual posts for the Character Cards only instead. Hopefully that will work out, but we'll see. Also, something weird will be happening with the Copy Ability enemies specifically, but we'll cover that part later.

We start with Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy, one of the only games where King Dedede is an actual villain, having stolen all the food from Dream Land, requiring Kirby to go on an adventure to steal it all back. Kirby is our hero, a cute little puffball and world destroyer. He can inhale enemies, spit out stars, and float, but does not have his signature copy abilities quite yet.

His enemy is King Dedede, AKA Best Boi, who can inhale his enemies just like Kirby can, and he carries around a large hammer. He also likes to body slam Kirby and jump really high to come back down hard. The main bosses include Whispy Woods, a giant tree who drops apples and spits gusts of air; Lololo and Lalala, who like to kick blocks around; Kabula, a blimp with a cannon; and Kracko, a living cloud who shoots lightning and spawns enemies. Kracko Jr. should also be noted for having little orbs it can shoot out and being able to spin fast.

As for our enemies, we first meet: Waddle Dee and Waddle Doo, basic enemies, the latter armed with a beam attack and both capable of carrying parasols; Bronto Burts, the basic fliers; Cappies, little dancing mushrooms that throw their caps; The Poppy Bros. (Sr. and Jr.) who throw bombs, ride on balls and bears called Grizzoes, and perform flying kicks; Broom Hatters, who sweep; Gordos, living spikeballs; Glunks, sea anemones; Mumbies, floating mummy heads; Squishies, squids; Blippers, fish; Kabus, spinning Moai heads; Scarfies, cute little cat heads that turn dangerous; and Sir Kibbles, who throw boomerang blades from their helmets. After the more regular enemies, we have Bennies, Bloppers, Boolers, Cawcuns, Chuckies, Coners, Dizzies, Flappers, Flotzos, Gaspars, Grumples, Hurlies, Kooklers, Koozers, Mr. P. Umpkins, Peezers, Puffies, Skullers, Tookies, Twizzies, Two-Faces, Whiskers, and Wizzers, all of which are fairly basic.

As for stages, we have: Green Greens, the basic grassland stage; Castle Lololo, a haunted castle-type; Float Island, a beach level; Bubbly Clouds, a sky level; and Mt. Dedede, the final boss level. Our items, easier to quantify because they're not as tied in with the characters as the last two series, include 1-Ups, Maxim Tomatoes, Bombs, Invincible Candies, Mikes, Mint Leaves, Energy Drinks, Sparkling Stars, Superspicy Curry, and the Warp Star.

Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:

Kirby: inhale, stars, float

King Dedede: inhale, hammer, body slam, super jump

Whispy Woods: apples, gusts of air
