Star Kirby 3

Way back in 1992, alongside the Nintendo Power comics, there was also a run of Kirby comics that ran only in Japan, with a host of original characters cropping up here and there. One of the most notable is a robot Kirby made when taking interest in robotics for the issue.

This robot was dubbed Star Kirby 3, the first two having eloped together shortly after being born. Star Kirby 3 would become a companion to Kirby afterwards, popping up frequently.

As a fighter, Star Kirby 3 would be based on Kirby, if a little heavier and slower. His moveset will pull from his actions within the game.

Our last character to tend to this time around is Star Kirby 3, a robot built by Kirby in a Japan-only manga. He is the third of his kind, the first two having run away together after Kirby built them. The third remained and seems to have been an active companion to Kirby for much of the manga's run.

Here is the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Swallow

He likes to eat, like Kirby, so we'll start with a basic one of those moves.

Side B: Jet Boots

He will start up his jet boots and launch forward at high speed.

Up B: Wrong Jump

He will leap high into the air, but always in the opposite direction from the way you pressed.

Down B: Candy Rain

He will cause candy to rain from above, doing light damage while also providing him food to heal with.

Final Smash: Star Kirby Trio

His two predecessors will return, and the three robots will attack an opponent together.

Entrance: He will be activated.

Taunts: Up, he will hold up a big number three. Side, he will do a little dance but mess up. Down, he will break down for a second.

Kirby Hat: His glasses and star symbol.

Kart: A robotic version of the warp star.

Special Move: Turning all oncoming attacks into candy.

Spirit Battle: A three-person battle on Green Greens.

Victory Screen: He will do a little dance with his siblings.

Losing Screen: He will break down and start sparking.

Color Swaps: His normal look, a 1 on his forehead, a 2 on his forehead, Kirby color, Meta Knight color, yellow, green, and red.

Metroid and Kirby Revisit

METROID AND KIRBY REVISIT

Well, we've got to at least have a check-in. And the result of that check-in is, there have been no new entries to the Metroid or Kirby series since we last visited. Metroid still has a major one coming, and considering Pokemon will likely take more than a year, simply by its very nature, I'm sure it will be out when we swing back around. Some kinda fall into that category, but those are mostly final bosses and so on. Now, my question to you is, if this were a real roster from a real game, who ya mainin'?

The Kirby series was launched in 1992 as a main game for HAL Laboratories, a studio under Nintendo, led by Smash’s own Sakurai Masahiro. The series was designed as a basic platformer, a nice and simple line of games mostly for casual gamers (with a bit of Eldritch horror at the end). The main character of these games was a cute little pink puffball who can suck up enemies.

This is Kirby, a resident of the whimsical world of Dream Land, and a bottomless pit for food and enemies alike. In subsequent games, he would gain the power to copy the abilities of those he inhaled, which would become the key staple of the series.

As a fighter, Kirby would be light and floaty, with a decently diverse moveset pulling from all of his various copy abilities and other standard moves. He would also have the gimmick of being able to copy any opponent and gain the use of their standard B-move.

Kirby Merchandise

KIRBY MERCHANDISE

As one might guess, right off the bat, we have so many plushies. Our little pink friend certainly lends himself well to them, as well as a few for Dedede, Meta Knight, Waddle Dees, his animal friends, Ribbon, Adeleine, Marx, Magolor, Taranza, Susie, and just about every copy ability under the sun. The plushie page is VERY long. There are quite a few figurines too. I notice that Planet Robobot specifically is a favorite there, and snow globes are apparently popular. Also keychains are common, as are magnets.

As for wearables, Kirby's aesthetic is an easily marketable print for girls and boys alike, and he makes for lots of cute accessories. With food, I should have seen the marshmallow candies coming, as well as a lot of specialty items sold at the Kirby Pupupu Train yearly events. The series has lots of great music, and so has seen about eighteen different CD soundtracks. There are a handful of playing card decks, a pinball machine, and just a bunch of other random things like mugs and stickers. And then of course, we have the Kirby Cafe, a restaurant chain in Japan entirely themed around Kirby.
