Squashini

SQUASHINI

Another boss that appears in Epic Yarn is a pumpkin-headed magician named Squashini, who performs a number of magic tricks to try and beat you.

As a fighter, Squashini will be quick and slippery, excellent at getting out of tight jams. Its moveset will pull entirely from its boss battle.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Mariner

MARINER

Most common among these distinct enemy types is the Mariner or Soldier, a standard sort of yarn-based soldier that patrols the various worlds inside the sock.

As a fighter, the Mariner will pull from all forms of Mariner and Soldier as they appear in the game. It will be about middling in its stats, with some decent defense.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Fangora

FANGORA

Given that Kirby’s Epic Yarn was originally meant to be its own thing, it then follows that it might have enemy types all its own. One among these was the boss Fangora, a giant dragon made of yarn.

As a fighter, Fangora will be big and powerful with decent aerials behind it. Its moveset will pull from its main boss battle.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Wiz

WIZ

Though like most full bosses, Wiz does not provide a copy ability, he too best represents the Magic ability by being a literal walking amalgamation of the moveset, a magician’s hat and cape that attacks by performing magic tricks.

As a fighter, Wiz will be on the slippery side with high defense. He will be an echo of Boxy, pulling his moves from the Magic ability itself.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Boxy

BOXY

One of the only contributors of Amazing Mirror’s magic ability comes in the form of the midboss Boxy, a living present that likes to cough up other presents at you.

As a fighter, it will bounce around along the ground, making it a bit slow, with a bit of a randomized aspect to its present-based attacks. Its moveset will pull from the Magic ability.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Box Boxer

BOX BOXER

Another mid-boss first appearing in the Amazing Mirror is a droopy hound dog that likes to fight with its ears named Box Boxer. Just like Knuckle Joe, it tends to supply the Fighter ability.

As a fighter, it will be strong and fast, if a bit slower than Knuckle Joe. It will be an echo of said character, with its moveset pulling from the Fighter ability.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Foley

FOLEY

Though the Poppy Bros. are the best when it comes to the Bomb ability, another rivals it in terms of appearances providing it, and that is the Foley, a flying turnip sort of creature that drops bombs from above.

As a fighter, Foley will have good aerials and explosive attacks, but not much else giving it a boost in stats. Its moveset will pull from all aspects of the Bomb ability.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Phan Phan

PHAN PHAN

Starting in the remake, Kirby’s Nightmare in Dream Land, a new recurring mid-boss appeared in the form of Phan Phan, a large two-legged elephant that tends to roll around and attack with its trunk.

As a fighter, Phan Phan will be big, heavy, and powerful, rampaging around the stage with its massive size. Its moveset will pull from its boss battles as well as its appearance in the anime.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

HR-H and HR-E

HR-H AND HR-E

One of Kirby 64’s final worlds was Shiver Star, a frozen level full of tech that looks suspiciously manmade in nature. Among these is the final boss, HR-H, a large transforming robot that can become a tank called HR-E.

As a fighter, HR-H will be in its robot form for the most part but will be able to transform. It will be strong and durable, and its moveset will pull from its boss fight.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Plugg

PLUGG

Much like Hot Head and Burning Leo, Sparky tends to be the representative of the Spark ability, except when helper allies are involved, then Plugg, a living electric plug, tends to join the fray instead.

As a fighter, Plugg will be fairly durable with middling speed and a natural defense at the top of its head. It will be an echo of Sparky, its moveset pulling from the Spark and Plasma abilities.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Acro

ACRO

Toward the later end of Dream Land 3, one boss you’ll encounter is, well, basically just an orca named Acro. This orca would reappear in Kirby 64, with multiple references in subsequent games.

As a fighter, like many water-based fighters so far, Acro will move as if swimming through the air, and will be large and hefty in his movements. His moveset will pull from his two boss battles.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Galbo

GALBO

Here and there throughout the series, you’ll come across a Galbo, a little reptilian blob that generally spews fire, but can come in water and poison varieties as well.

As a fighter, Galbo will be a little tricky in terms of mobility, bouncing around to move itself, and its moveset will pull from all forms of Galbo and their larger form, the Galboros.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Como

COMO

Just like the Piders and the Skulltulas, what game series is complete without your token spider who drops from above on a web. This series’ variety is called the Como.

As a fighter, the Como will use lots of sticky webs to bind up its opponent, and will be adept at climbing walls. Its moveset will pull primarily from the Spider ability and the Como ally both present in Star Allies.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Tick

TICK

Though Captain Stitch worked well to represent the Gordo enemy, throughout most of the series, the Needle ability is most often provided by a little white blob called Tick.

As a fighter, Tick will be fairly slow and weak, making up for it with its high defense and piercing projectiles. Its moveset will pull from the Needle ability in all its forms.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Sasuke

SASUKE

In Kirby’s Dream Land 3, another provider of the Bomb ability came in the form of Sasuke, a little red blob wearing a bamboo hat. It made use of a number of fireworks during its appearance in the anime.

As a fighter, Sasuke will be small and quick, making good use of its explosive moveset. Its moves will pull almost entirely from the anime.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Birdon

BIRDON

A commonly recurring ability of Kirby’s is the Wing ability, which lets him fly and occasionally throw feathers like darts. This ability is most often provided by Birdon, a little pink bird with green feathers.

As a fighter, Birdon will have strong aerials and decent range. Its moveset will pull from all instances of the Wing ability throughout the series.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Tac

TAC

A memorable one-off in the series is Tac, a small little thief that likes to run around and grab important objects. He offers Kirby the “Copy” copy ability.

As a fighter, Tac will have high speed, with not much power behind him. His moveset will pull from the Copy ability and all of its moves.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Gim

GIM

A rarely seen enemy throughout the series is Gim, a tiny little robot camera carrying around a yo-yo, which provides Kirby with the Yo-Yo ability.

As a fighter, Gim will be a little heavier, given his metal body, but not too bad, and his moveset will pull from the Yo-Yo ability.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Bio Spark

BIO SPARK

Though I don’t understand the name, Bio Spark is one of the more common providers of Kirby’s ninja ability, which provides him with a katana, shurikens, and all manner of ninja standards.

As a fighter, Bio Spark will be fast and stealthy, as befits a ninja, and its moveset will pull straight from the Ninja ability.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Chef Kawasaki

CHEF KAWASAKI

In rare cases, some Copy abilities can only be used once before you lose them. Aside from the already mentioned Sleep, another is Cook, which has Kirby toss all his onscreen enemies into a pot and transform them into health items. The chief giver of this ability is Chef Kawasaki, a mid-boss who would go on to be an iconic figure of the series. He'd even get a major supporting role in the anime as Cappy Town's only chef, albeit not a very good one.

As a fighter, Kawasaki will be fairly speedy and bouncy, if lacking a bit in brute strength. His moveset will pull from the Cook ability and his own abilities shown in-game and in the anime.

Likelihood rating: Good possibility.

Simirror

SIMIRROR

A rare but rather unique copy ability cropping up on occasion is the Mirror ability, which lends Kirby a certain amount of defense but also some good offense and projectiles. This ability is best represented by Simirror.

As a fighter, Simirror will have the highest defense stat, but some good offense as well. Its moveset will pull straight from the Mirror ability wherever it crops up.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Knuckle Joe

KNUCKLE JOE

One of the most memorable and iconic enemies in the series is a young warrior named Knuckle Joe, who attacks Kirby with a flurry of punches, and acts as the most reliable source of the Fighter ability.

As a fighter, Knuckle Joe will be fast and strong, making good use of his training. His moveset will pull directly from the Fighter ability and his own attacks.

Likelihood rating: Good possibility.

Burning Leo

BURNING LEO

Though Hot Head is the standard Fire provider, in any game with a partner mechanic, it seems to always be replaced by a fiery warrior named Burning Leo.

As a fighter, Burning Leo will be similar to Kirby in his stats, with a lot of fiery intensity behind his speed and power. It will be an echo of Hot Head, pulling its moveset likewise from the Fire ability.

Likelihood rating: Could happen.

Captain Stitch

Masher

MASHER

In Dream Land 2, Kirby encounters a trio of powerful armored knights named Blade, Masher, and Butch. Though not particularly memorable, Masher would gain an expanded role in the anime as the most powerful monster in their catalog and would reappear in Blowout Blast as a mini-boss.

As a fighter, Masher would be big and powerful with heavy armor and devastating attacks. Its moveset would pull a bit from the games but primarily from the anime.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Blocky

BLOCKY

Though Rocky is the main source of Kirby’s Stone ability, a mini-boss has also been known to offer it up. This is Blocky, a large sentient block that tries to smash or roll into Kirby, squishing him flat.

As a fighter, Blocky will be an echo to Rocky, with his moves pulling from the Stone ability. However, he will be much bigger and heavier, with a bit more speed.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Jumper Shoot

JUMPER SHOOT

Although the Parasol Waddle Dee represents the parasol best, a mini-boss based on the kasa-obake of Japanese folklore has offered it up a couple of times himself.

As a fighter, Jumpershoot will be an echo of Parasol Waddle Dee, its moveset pulling likewise from the parasol ability, albeit with a bit more strength behind it.

MR. SHINE & MR. BRIGHT

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Tuesday, May 21, 2024

Noddy

NODDY

Of course, not all copy abilities are going to be great, and one among them actively functions as a hazard. If Kirby swallows the sleeping Noddy, he will gain the Sleep ability, which will knock him out for a short time, making him vulnerable to all attack, but healing him of some damage.

As a fighter, Noddy will be slow and sluggish to control without a lot of power but good recovery. Its moveset will pull primarily from the Sleep Kirby moveset in Kirby Fighters 2.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Wheelie

WHEELIE

Another ability Kirby often makes use of is the Wheel ability, which lets him spin and dash at high speeds. This is often represented by the Wheelie enemy, a sentient tire often carrying a bike attachment.

As a fighter, Wheelie will be incredibly fast, among the highest speed stats in the game. Its moveset will pull from its various appearances throughout the series, with some garnishing from the game Kirby: Air Ride.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Twister

TWISTER

Another of Kirby’s most common abilities is his Tornado ability, giving him the power of wind. Strangely, its most common contributor is a simple little top called a Twister.

In most sky-based levels, Kirby will encounter a giant cloud with a single eye at its center. This is Kracko, the second most recurring boss of the series after Whispy Woods.

As a fighter, Kracko will be top tier in terms of aerials, with some solid defense thanks to its clouds. After its defenses have been whittled, it will become Kracko Jr., with much less defense to it. Its moveset will pull from its various boss battles.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Friday, May 17, 2024

Lololo & Lalala

Likelihood rating: Probably not.
