Phan Phan

PHAN PHAN

Starting in the remake, Kirby’s Nightmare in Dream Land, a new recurring mid-boss appeared in the form of Phan Phan, a large two-legged elephant that tends to roll around and attack with its trunk.

As a fighter, Phan Phan will be big, heavy, and powerful, rampaging around the stage with its massive size. Its moveset will pull from its boss battles as well as its appearance in the anime.

Likelihood rating: Piranha Plant clause.

Nightmare

NIGHTMARE

In the end, Kirby defeats King Dedede and restores the Star Rod, learning the awful truth: that an evil being had been trying to spill into Dream Land and fill it with bad dreams, and King Dedede had been striving to stop him.

This is Nightmare, the true villain of Kirby’s Adventure, its remake Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, and the anime as EnEmEe, a shadowy being that can absorb most attacks and spreads darkness everywhere.

As a fighter, Nightmare will have excellent defense and high power, with some good aerials to boot. His moveset will pull from all of his various boss battles.

Likelihood rating: Strong

Meta-Knights

META-KNIGHTS

Serving under Meta Knight are a band of four knights, each armed with a mace, axe, trident, and javelin respectively.

These are the Meta-Knights, loyal followers of Meta Knight who attack together in one battle, each one following a specific pattern that Kirby will have to study to defeat. They would recur here and there throughout the series.

As fighters, they would be a combination of the four, with their moveset pulling from their four weapons. They would be generally speedy, but less so than Meta Knight.

Likelihood rating: Probably not

Meta Knight

META KNIGHT

Though Kirby’s Dream Land was the first game, many often view Kirby’s Adventure as the progenitor of most of the standard Kirby tropes, like copy abilities and King Dedede only being a fake-out villain. This time around, King Dedede has stolen the magical Star Rod from the Fountain of Dreams, cutting off Dream Land’s supply of them. Kirby sets out to take it back, only to be challenged by a shadowy knight with a golden sword.

This is Meta Knight, a warrior serving under King Dedede, who would likewise return again and again as a boss, but rarely as a true villain, instead being more a loyal protector of Dream Land who clashes with Kirby in service of his duty, or simply in search of a challenge.

As a fighter, he would be primarily a sword fighter, with quick moves that deal a lot of damage and a good aerial kit. His moveset would pull from all of his various battles in the series.

Likelihood rating: Already in.

Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

KIRBY: NIGHTMARE IN DREAM LAND

Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land is a full overhaul remake of Kirby's Adventure. It is more or less the same in terms of content, but the engine has been rebuilt and a few things have been updated to match the modern series, such as adding in Makiko Ohmoto's iconic voice acting for Kirby, a few enemies have been replaced by more standard versions of the same concept, a few copy abilities have been renamed to their more standard name, and a lot of more recent iconic songs have been added in, like the Gourmet Race theme. An additional mode was added, called Meta Knightmare, which had Meta Knight play through the levels without being able to save.

And that's pretty much it! Here's what we've got:

Characters:

Kirby

Meta Knight

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's cover Super Star, but Ultra!
