The Dark Star

As Mario, Luigi, and Bowser each progress on their respective journeys to defeat Fawful, they soon piece together Fawful’s true goal: to harness the power of a meteor that had crashed into the Mushroom Kingdom centuries before and had been sealed away by Peach’s ancestors.

This Dark Star, however, soon turns out to be sentient and far more powerful than Fawful was prepared to deal with. Upon its awakening, it swallowed up Fawful, killing him and entering Bowser’s body, analyzing his abilities and learning how to copy them before taking on a Dark Bowser form of its own.

In game, the Dark Star will be powerful and slow, but light and floaty at the same time. It will mostly maintain its shape as the dark star, its body mutating to develop Bowser-like qualities for each of its moves, which will pull from its final boss battle as well as the unique abilities of Bowser that it copied.

Durmite/Wisdurm

While Bowser seeks revenge against Fawful, Mario and Luigi wake to find themselves in Bowser’s belly, having been shrunken down and trapped inside. They then secretly work with Bowser, adventuring throughout his body to help him out and fight off invaders trying to hinder his physical abilities. When he is forced to eat a giant carrot, he accidentally consumes a parasite that causes him a terrible stomachache.

This parasite is Durmite, and while Mario and Luigi initially assume it to be merely a random bug, they soon learn its true identity as one of the star sages, whose power the brothers will need to defeat Fawful, but was transformed into her current form, requiring them to battle her again to restore her.

As a fighter, Durmite and her alternate form as the sage Wisdurm will be alternate color swaps. She will be strong and heavy, but with some floaty elements to her as well. Her moveset will pull from both of her major battles and her role as a Star Sage.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen

Broque Monsieur

Cast out of the castle with his minions, the Mario brothers, and the princess nowhere to be found, Bowser sets out to reclaim his kingdom and get his revenge on Fawful. He doesn’t go too far before he encounters a strange merchant made of blocks, working in the business of peddling the various item blocks found throughout the game.

This is Broque Monsieur, a flamboyant Frenchman who provides Bowser with a number of upgrades he needs to fight Fawful and Midbus. The merchant would appear again in the game’s sequel, Dream Team, accompanying the Mario brothers and Princess Peach to his home on Pi’illo Island, where a number of others of his species live and work.

Broque Monsieur will only take up the first color swap slot, a number of his other more prominent fellows acting as alternates, such as Madame Broque and Boss Brickle. Their moveset will pull from the various power-ups Broque provides Bowser, including his dog Broggy, and will also pull from various tools and items used by the blocky race throughout Dream Team as well.

Midbus

The Mario & Luigi series will also see a third entry, this time in Bowser’s Inside Story. Fawful is back, bent on revenge for the Mario brothers’ defeat of his mistress two games before. He feeds Bowser a strange mushroom that causes him to inhale the Mario brothers and Princess Peach, and then sends his own minion, a big musclebound pig, to toss Bowser out, leaving the villain free to take over both Peach’s and Bowser’s castles.

This big pig minion is Midbus, Fawful’s faithful right-hand man throughout Bowser’s Inside Story and the go-to villain to face off against Bowser, matching him in terms of strength and ability, fighting him multiple times and forming an impenetrable wall between him and Fawful.

As a fighter, I think it only natural that Midbus match Bowser in terms of attributes such as speed and strength, basically matching him beat for beat. His moveset will pull from all his various boss battles across the game, both his regular form and his final blizzard form that gives him power over ice.

Mr. L

Three of the four prophesied heroes have been brought together in the form of Mario, Peach, and Bowser, but the fourth still has yet to appear and Mario’s brother Luigi has gone missing. Our heroes collect their third Pure Heart and move on to a space-themed world full of trippy gravity mechanics and warping effects, where they are faced with the newest recruit to Count Bleck’s forces, a masked figure with a snazzy mustache who takes on the party with a giant robotic spaceship.

This is Mr. L, a new addition to Count Bleck’s forces, who looks very familiar to our heroes, though they can’t quite put their finger on it. They will face him multiple times across the game, sometimes on his own, sometimes in his giant mech. He seems to be brainwashed in some way.

As a fighter, he will be an echo fighter of Luigi, for unknown reason. He just seems to fit for some reason. He will have similar stats to Luigi, though he might put a bit more power into his attacks, not quite holding back the way Luigi would. His moves will mirror Luigi’s moveset, though with more paper qualities and often themed more to Mr. L. He will also make use of his flying mech.

Likelihood rating: Could happen

Francis

Mario and Tippi, having joined forces with Bowser and Peach and collected two pure hearts, now travel to a pixelated 8-bit world of video game references and concepts. They aren’t there two minutes before Tippi finds herself captured and collected as a rare butterfly by the biggest nerd stereotype this side of The Big Bang Theory in the form of a giant chameleon.

This is Francis, a major boss of this world and mostly just a general nuisance for our heroes. He dwells inside of a heavily fortified palace filled with gamer memorabilia and guarded by cat-eared robots in maid costumes. Our heroes must fight their way through it to face him and rescue Tippi.

In the game, Francis will be slow with not too much strength or defense, but will make up for it with an invisibility mechanic that will let him move around unseen. His moveset will pull from both his boss battle in the game as well as the various traps and robots defending his fortress.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen

Dimentio

The fourth member of Count Bleck’s forces will also make his debut at this meeting, appearing as a smiling clown who seems not to take anything seriously and prefers to simply annoy his fellow minions and cause trouble for ally and enemy alike for his own enjoyment.

This is Dimentio, the true villain of Super Paper Mario. He presented himself as an ally to Count Bleck in his quest to wipe the universe from existence, planning all the while to steal the Chaos Heart from him in the end and use it to recreate the universe in his own personal image.

As a fighter, he is light and floaty, good with defense and speed for easy getaways with underhanded moves that trap opponents from afar and hurt them from a distance. His moves will pull from his multiple battles throughout the game, both as a regular minion and as the final boss.

Likelihood rating: Good possibility
