Character Sheet: Captain Stalfos

CAPTAIN STALFOS

Alright, so we did have one more semi-big character list in us. Let's get into it! This is all characters I could pull out originating from the Legend of Zelda manga, or were given just enough of a boost by the manga to make it into our rankings. They are:

1. Maple

2. Jolene

3. Ricky

4. Captain Stalfos

5. Manga Link

6. Riruto

7. Manga Zelda

8. Raska

9. Tou

10. Ghanti

11. Gonza

12. Kala

13. Captain Arjuna

14. Sir Raven

15. Biri

16. Com

17. Gump

18. Shemlon

19. Rouro

20. Ganon's Minion

21. Ganon's Heart

22. Ganos

23. Haggis

Stalfos are a populous race of enemies appearing all throughout the Zelda series, generally presented as the skeletons of fallen warriors brought to life by Ganon's dark magic. They have taken several forms throughout the years, but probably one of the most notable recurring forms is the Stalfos pirate captain. This includes Cap'n from the Oracles games, LD-002G Scervo from Skyward Sword, and Captain Stalfos from the Tingle games. I think "Captain Stalfos" gets the point across best, so I'm going with that name.

I kind of overlooked them at first, as they are just an offshoot of a regular enemy, and are often simply supporting characters with a couple of boss fights thrown in, but Cap'n got a bit of focus in Himekawa's adaptation, telling the story of his romance with Queen Ambi, so I think he still works well. Frequently, the Captain Stalfos wields a cutlass and a hook, though Skyward Sword shakes this up by making his weapons electrical. He also has explosive barrels that Tingle uses to defeat him, and in the Oracle games and comics, he is trapped by sea storms, events that have played into some of our other seafarers, so I think we can work with it.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Electric Sword

Charging his sword with electricity based on Scervo from Skyward Sword, he will slash forward and stun his opponents with electricity.

Side B: Hook

He will grab with his second main weapon, hooking players and holding them to him so he can dole out successive attacks.

Up B: Sea Storm

A storm similar in design to those seen in the Oracle games will appear around him and send him spinning up into the sky.

Down B: Explosive Barrel

He will roll forward one of the explosive barrels from Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, which will explode on contact.

Final Smash: Pirate Ship

His ship will swoop in, bombarding the stage with its cannons, before crashing into it. The captain's pirate stalchildren will then flood off the boat and attack the players on stage.

Entrance: He will be sitting in his captain's chair as a corpse and then suddenly come to life.

Taunts: Up, he will ring the bell Link collects for him. Side, he will raise his sword as his pirates gather around him. Down, he will fall apart into a pile of bones.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll move on to those characters originally from the manga.

Thanks for reading! Next up, an enemy variant who has shown up quite a few times at this point.
