Tingle Stage Roster

TINGLE STAGE ROSTER

Well, that didn't take long. Here's the roster for the three Tingle-based stages. If this were real, which one would you play on first, I guess?

Rupeeland

RUPEELAND

As for Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland, I don’t believe we ever really do see the titular Rupeeland, a place probably invented by Uncle Rupee, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun with the concept.

As a stage, it will be set around the pool where Tingle dumps all of his rupees, steadily growing into a taller and taller tower the more rupees are dumped into it. (If we can tie the tower’s growth somehow into coin battles, that’d be fun). Whenever Tingle makes the tower grow in game, Uncle Rupee appears to him in more and more lavish settings, clueing you in to his true intentions. It would be fun if each level of tower growth had additional platforms based on each of those visions.

Tingle Roster

TINGLE ROSTER

And here's our short little roster for all characters originating from the Tingle spinoff series. It's not much, but it's enough. If this were a real roster from a real game, who ya mainin'? Are ya mainin'?

Yamori

YAMORI

Besides Aba, Tingle will have a number of supporting characters he can hire on as bodyguards, basically characters who will follow him around and get into the fight clouds with him. Some will be pretty basic, but a few will be a bit more prominent.

Among these is Yamori, a ninja who bears a striking resemblance to a certain Ryu Hayabusa. He will be a prominent bodyguard throughout Rosy Rupeeland, but will return in Balloon Trip of Love as a recurring minigame, hiding out on certain maps and requiring Tingle to find him by shooting him with a slingshot.

As a fighter, Yamori will be heavily speed and stealth-based, with moves letting him sneak around the stage and pulled from both of his game appearances.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Oinker

OINKER

As Tingle goes out to collect rupees, he will face a few enemies here and there to take down. Of course, he’s no Link, so his enemies will be a bit on the smaller side. Rather than Moblins and Bokoblins, Tingle will face smaller pig-themed enemies that are totally not those two.

These are the Oinkers, or, as I like to call them, Moblins Lite. These act as the primary enemies of Rosy Rupeeland, even being heavily featured in a major fortress level toward the latter end of the game.

As fighters, they will be similar stat-wise to Moblins, if a little lighter and quicker. Their moveset will pull from all their demonstrated abilities as shown in the game.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Aba

ABA

As Tingle heads out into the wilds to find rupees, he will be immediately accosted by a strange wild girl, who will tell him there’s a lot of dangers out there, and he will die if he doesn’t know how to fight. She will take it upon herself to teach him.

This girl is Aba, a wild girl raised from childhood by the wild man Junglo. A major story arc will involve Tingle helping Aba track down her birth parents, who turns out to be the local armorer you trade weapons with.

As a fighter, she will act as a sort of gimmick rep for the game, representing a lot of the unique combat aspects of the game, being the person who trains Tingle in those techniques. She will be fast and agile, with some hard-hitting strikes.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Pinkle

PINKLE

Tingle will accept Uncle Rupee’s task, and the strange being will provide him with various supplies to complete his mission, including a small device he can use to save his game, where a scantily-clad beautiful woman dressed just like him acts as his assistant.

This woman is Pinkle, who you will later learn is a fairy princess kidnapped by Uncle Rupee and trapped inside the device. She and her mother, the Grand Fairy, will help you fight back against Uncle Rupee in the final battle.

As a fighter, Pinkle will act as an echo fighter for Tingle, using a lot of the same moves he uses, specifically those moves seen as well in her own game. She won’t be as light and floaty as Tingle, with a bit more speed.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Uncle Rupee

UNCLE RUPEE

Tingle’s first spinoff game came in the form of Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland, largely a money management game with only the most basic of combat mechanics. The story follows Tingle as he is contacted by a strange man with a rupee for a head, who offers him a chance to visit the mystical Rupeeland by dumping as many rupees as he can into a pond.

This is Uncle Rupee, Tingle’s mentor and guide throughout most of the game until he is ultimately revealed to have evil, self-serving intentions, using Tingle to gather as many rupees as possible to feed his own greed.

As a fighter, Uncle Rupee will not be particularly active, mostly sitting on his floating couch and attacking from a distance. His moveset will pull entirely from his final battle in the game.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Tingle

TINGLE

As far back as Majora’s Mask, we encounter one of the most polarizing characters in the Zelda series, either beloved or reviled by the fanbase. We first meet him in Clocktown, a man who claims to be a fairy, who spends most of his time floating around Termina on a balloon, making maps of the landscape below.

This is Tingle. He would recur time and time again, in Wind Waker and most of the handheld games, often as a mapmaker but also serving other roles such as trying to steal crystals from you. He would even see a set of four spinoffs starring him, just enough to make his own roster.

As a fighter, Tingle will be a bit of a gag character, with erratic oddball movements and a light, floaty playstyle. His moveset will pull from his game appearances, his moveset in Hyrule Warriors, and his own set of games.

Likelihood rating: Strong

Character Sheet: Captain Stalfos

CAPTAIN STALFOS

Alright, so we did have one more semi-big character list in us. Let's get into it! This is all characters I could pull out originating from the Legend of Zelda manga, or were given just enough of a boost by the manga to make it into our rankings. They are:

1. Maple

2. Jolene

3. Ricky

4. Captain Stalfos

5. Manga Link

6. Riruto

7. Manga Zelda

8. Raska

9. Tou

10. Ghanti

11. Gonza

12. Kala

13. Captain Arjuna

14. Sir Raven

15. Biri

16. Com

17. Gump

18. Shemlon

19. Rouro

20. Ganon's Minion

21. Ganon's Heart

22. Ganos

23. Haggis

Stalfos are a populous race of enemies appearing all throughout the Zelda series, generally presented as the skeletons of fallen warriors brought to life by Ganon's dark magic. They have taken several forms throughout the years, but probably one of the most notable recurring forms is the Stalfos pirate captain. This includes Cap'n from the Oracles games, LD-002G Scervo from Skyward Sword, and Captain Stalfos from the Tingle games. I think "Captain Stalfos" gets the point across best, so I'm going with that name.

I kind of overlooked them at first, as they are just an offshoot of a regular enemy, and are often simply supporting characters with a couple of boss fights thrown in, but Cap'n got a bit of focus in Himekawa's adaptation, telling the story of his romance with Queen Ambi, so I think he still works well. Frequently, the Captain Stalfos wields a cutlass and a hook, though Skyward Sword shakes this up by making his weapons electrical. He also has explosive barrels that Tingle uses to defeat him, and in the Oracle games and comics, he is trapped by sea storms, events that have played into some of our other seafarers, so I think we can work with it.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Electric Sword

Charging his sword with electricity based on Scervo from Skyward Sword, he will slash forward and stun his opponents with electricity.

Side B: Hook

He will grab with his second main weapon, hooking players and holding them to him so he can dole out successive attacks.

Up B: Sea Storm

A storm similar in design to those seen in the Oracle games will appear around him and send him spinning up into the sky.

Down B: Explosive Barrel

He will roll forward one of the explosive barrels from Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, which will explode on contact.

Final Smash: Pirate Ship

His ship will swoop in, bombarding the stage with its cannons, before crashing into it. The captain's pirate stalchildren will then flood off the boat and attack the players on stage.

Entrance: He will be sitting in his captain's chair as a corpse and then suddenly come to life.

Taunts: Up, he will ring the bell Link collects for him. Side, he will raise his sword as his pirates gather around him. Down, he will fall apart into a pile of bones.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll move on to those characters originally from the manga.

Thanks for reading! Next up, an enemy variant who has shown up quite a few times at this point.

Tingle Series Roster

SUPER SMASH BROS. UNIVERSE

TINGLE SERIES

And now, although it will be a small roster, I don't feel comfortable just lumping this group in with the regular Zelda rosters, so, I guess it's our Yoshi roster: the Tingle roster.

1. Tingle

2. Pinkle

3. Tingle's Troupe

4. Aba

5. Yamori

6. Uncle Rupee

7. Majiyo

8. Segare

9. Oinker

And, I'd say, just remove Tingle from the 3D Zelda roster and there you go. We now have four rosters to work with.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we cover the remakes, re-releases, and ports of the Zelda series.

Character Sheet: Oinker

OINKER

Now, let's cover a small batch of new characters from the obscure side of the Zelda series, most if not all hailing from the Tingle series such as Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland and Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love. They may not be household names, but they made their case enough for me to accept them in. They are:

1. Pinkle

2. Tingle's Troupe

3. Aba

4. Yamori

5. Uncle Rupee

6. Majiyo

7. Segare

8. Oinker

And last but not least, we have the Oinkers, basically the main mooks of Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, who probably exist because Tingle would never stand a chance against actual Moblins (Hyrule Warriors not withstanding). The Oinkers pose a constant threat to Tingle throughout his quest, the penultimate dungeon even acting as their lair.

Across the game, we see them using bombs, swords, shields, and lances, casting spells, rolling around on large balls, performing spinning attacks with their swords, circling up and raging, calling in even more Oinkers, calling down meteors, floating, and summoning waves of magic. I'd say that's certainly enough for our purposes.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Bomb

The Oinker will pull out a bomb and toss it forward. It will do moderate damage upon explosion.

Side B: Jousting Lance

It will pull out a lance and charge forward, not doing as much damage as, say, a Moblin might with a similar attack.

Up B: Bouncy Ball

A large ball will pop up beneath the Oinker. A second tap will allow the pig to bounce off of the ball into the air, but simply navigating forward will let it roll across the stage.

Down B: Spellcaster

The Oinker will pull out a magic wand and cast a spell as a projectile that will stun the enemy.

Final Smash: Oinker Fortress

It will call in a horde of Oinkers as fortress walls appear around the stage. Those Oinkers on the stage will rage and attack everything in sight, while still more will throw projectiles from the walls.

Entrance: A fortress gate will open and the Oinker will march out.

Taunts: Up, the Oinker will raise its spear and tap it on the ground. Side, the Oinker will pace back and forth as if on duty. Down, the Oinker will gather up a bunch of Rupees and stash them in a bag.

Thanks for reading! And now . . . should I do it? It would be a pretty small roster . . . you know what, I'm gonna do it!

Character Sheet: Uncle Rupee

UNCLE RUPEE

Now, let's cover a small batch of new characters from the obscure side of the Zelda series, most if not all hailing from the Tingle series such as Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland and Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love. They may not be household names, but they made their case enough for me to accept them in. They are:

1. Pinkle

2. Tingle's Troupe

3. Aba

4. Yamori

5. Uncle Rupee

6. Majiyo

7. Segare

8. Oinker

When you begin Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, the plot kicks off with a strange old man contacting Tingle and telling him of a magical land called Rupeeland that he can access by dumping as many rupees as possible into a pool. As you near the end of the story, you discover that this was all a ruse, that there is no Rupeeland, and that Uncle Rupee is a fraud who has been using you to get rich.

In his boss battle, he flies around on a large sofa that he bought for himself with your money. He can shoot lightning, use some fancy tables as shields, send out his cats to attack you, send his bodyguards to shoot at you with Rupee guns, and can take on two additional forms, one as a giant and one as a giant head. I'd say that's plenty.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Precious

He will toss one of his cats forward as a projectile, which will attach itself to you and rack up damage with claw attacks.

Side B: Bodyguards

Two bodyguards will appear on either side of him and shoot two streams of rupees at opposing players.

Up B: Sofa Rockets

His sofa will produce rockets that will shoot him straight up into the air and out of trouble.

Down B: Table Shield

He will bring forward a fancy table to protect himself from your attack.

Final Smash: Giant Head

He will turn into his giant head form and spew rupees at the screen, similar to something like Andross.

Entrance: He will start as as a homeless man in rags then a sofa will appear under him and his rags will turn to robes.

Taunts: He will spread his hands as "Rupeeland!" appears above his head. Side, he will hold up a bunch of rupees and laugh jovially. Down, his sofa will break and his rags will return.

Thanks for reading! Next up, the main villain of the second Tingle game!

Character Sheet: Yamori

YAMORI

Now, let's cover a small batch of new characters from the obscure side of the Zelda series, most if not all hailing from the Tingle series such as Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland and Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love. They may not be household names, but they made their case enough for me to accept them in. They are:

1. Pinkle

2. Tingle's Troupe

3. Aba

4. Yamori

5. Uncle Rupee

6. Majiyo

7. Segare

8. Oinker

Today let's cover Yamori, a supporting character appearing in both Rosy Rupeeland and Balloon Trip of Love. He functions as a sort of minigame in both, hiding out in random locations until Tingle finds him, rewarding him and then escaping. He can also be recruited as a bodyguard in the first game. He doesn't have too much to work with, but more than enough. He attacks with a ninja blade, hides and uses disguises to conceal his location, leaps high into the air, flies using a kite, and drops smoke bombs.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Blade Flurry

He will leap into a slight fight cloud, but less distinct than some of the others, slashing multiple times with his blade.

Side B: Smoke Bomb

He will drop a smoke bomb right in front of himself, creating a cloud on the stage and obscuring the fight around the area.

Up B: Kite Leap

He will leap high into the air then produce his kite to swoop downwards.

Down B: Hide

He will pull up a disguise patterned to look like the stage he is on, blending in with his surroundings. He can break from it with any attack, or he can stay there indefinitely until struck by an opponent.

Final Smash: Hidden Slash

He will slash an opponent and send them into the air. He will then perform several strikes similar to other ninja characters like Sheik and Greninja.

Entrance: He will poke his head up out of a patch of grass with a snorkel in his mouth.

Taunts: Up, he will perform a standard ninja pose. Side, he will look around as if suddenly exposed. Down, he will tuck down behind grass and poke his head out.

Thanks for reading! Next up, the main villain of the first Tingle game!

Character Sheet: Aba

ABA

Now, let's cover a small batch of new characters from the obscure side of the Zelda series, most if not all hailing from the Tingle series such as Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland and Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love. They may not be household names, but they made their case enough for me to accept them in. They are:

1. Pinkle

2. Tingle's Troupe

3. Aba

4. Yamori

5. Uncle Rupee

6. Majiyo

7. Segare

8. Oinker

Today, let's cover Aba. She appears early on in Rosy Rupeeland as a wild child who instructs you on the game's combat system. She recurs throughout the game, turning out to be the adopted daughter of the wild man Junglo until you piece together the clues and discover that her real father is the local blacksmith that provides your weapons.

Being the person that teaches you how to fight, she is a natural pick for the game's gimmick rep, specifically every action unique to the game. This includes your standard fight cloud fighting system, fireworks, money management, stretching out and leaping, digging for rupees, cooking, and the rupee blast used against Uncle Rupee. And of course, we cannot forget the game's bodyguard mechanic.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Fight Cloud

Aba will leap forward with her staff and pull enemies into a fight cloud, dealing damage before breaking apart with a slight launching move.

Side B: Rupee Dig

Aba will pull out a shovel and dig up a rupee, which will strike the opponent before letting Aba pick it up. Every rupee she picks up will give her a small boost to her stats. This could result in her being really powerful eventually.

Up B: Stretching Leap

She will stretch upward and then leap, throwing herself high into the air and over her opponents.

Down B: Junglo

This will pull from the bodyguard mechanic, but more specific to her. She will hold up a rupee and her adopted father Junglo will appear, following her around and fighting with her. Enough hits will eventually defeat him.

Final Smash: Rupee Blaster

Just like Pinkle, she will end up at one corner of the screen and start blasting rupees at the stage.

Entrance: She will jump onto the stage, looking serious.

Taunts: Up, she will count up her current rupee count, showing above her head. Side, she will sweep her staff and take up a fighting pose. Down, she will fiddle with her locket and look sad.

Thanks for reading! Next up, a ninja might be lurking somewhere in the next blog.

Character Sheet: Pinkle

PINKLE

Now, let's cover a small batch of new characters from the obscure side of the Zelda series, most if not all hailing from the Tingle series such as Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland and Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love. They may not be household names, but they made their case enough for me to accept them in. They are:

1. Pinkle

2. Tingle's Troupe

3. Aba

4. Yamori

5. Uncle Rupee

6. Majiyo

7. Segare

8. Oinker

First up is Pinkle, originally introduced as a save-point/virtual girlfriend for Tingle provided by Uncle Rupee in order to help him gather as many rupees as possible, before it is revealed that she is the daughter of the Grand Fairy imprisoned by the villain. Though released in the end, she never appears in the sequel. She doesn't do much outside of saving your game, but I have chosen to go the echo fighter route with her, as she was designed to be a female counterpart for Tingle.

Here's her moveset based on Tingle's:

Standard B: Rupee Slingshot

Replacing Tingle's old move is his slingshot from Balloon Trip of Love, with Pinkle taking it on as well.

Side B: Rumble

Tingle will now pull his opponents into a fight cloud, racking up heavy damage while they are inside. This will be taken on by Pinkle as well.

Up B: Balloon Float

A natural move to keep around for both of our fighters.

Down B: Trophy Smash

Same, but Pinkle's will instead be a trophy of the Grand Fairy instead of Tingle.

Final Smash: Rupee Blaster

Tingle will keep his Balloon Bombs from before, but Pinkle will instead take on the Rupee Blaster used to defeat Uncle Rupee. She will sit at the edge of the screen and blast the stage with a stream of rupees, guided by a crosshairs.

Entrance: She will emerge from the device she is trapped in.

Taunts: Up, she will mimic the "Koolooh Limpah" dance. Side, she will do her little animation to save your game. Down, she will hold up a full bag of rupees and look impressed.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Tingle's trio of companions appearing in Balloon Trip of Love.

Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

FRESHLY-PICKED TINGLE'S ROSY RUPEELAND

Today, let's get into some of the more infamous games of the Zelda franchise, namely, the four Tingle games and the three CDi games. We'll get the less bad ones out of the way first, meaning we're starting with Tingle. Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland was a spinoff game starring Tingle, that was honestly more of a "money management simulator" more than anything else, where you had to collect as much rupees as you could, but you had to spend rupees to unlock ways to make more rupees so you had to balance it all.

Your main character is Tingle, whose main combat mechanic is basically "get close enough to an enemy to start a fight cloud animation where you basically have to do nothing." Again, the money management is the important stuff here. However, you do have the ability to launch fireworks, make maps, fly with balloons, and drop bombs. You could also cook, use a shovel to dig, use a bat as a weapon, stretch yourself out in a leap, and fire rupees as projectiles.

As for supporting characters, you have Pinkle, your "girlfriend" who acts as your save option, and your dog Barkle, who mostly just hangs out and acts cute. Then there's Aba, a young swordswoman who teaches you the main battle mechanics. Those battle mechanics are very simple, but they are there. I'd say there's a distinct possibility that either she or Pinkle could act as a gimmick rep. There's also the Grand Fairy, Pinkle's mother, and is basically a Great Fairy.

A major mechanic of the game is that you can hire out a bodyguard to follow you around and give you another body to enter into fight clouds with. Teddy Todo is the first you meet of them and helps present the concept to you, and from there, there's like thirty of them and none of them really do anything all that special. Honestly, they would probably work best as an assist trophy mechanic or a move of whoever gets to be gimmick rep.

Your main villain, and mentor for most of the game until you discover his true intentions, is Uncle Rupee, a man who first presents himself as a wise sage in rags who tells you that to reach the mystical world of Rupeeland, you must collect as many rupees as you can and dump them into a pool. You come to find out there never was a Rupeeland and he was just using you as a pawn to get rich, steadily upgrading his attire and surroundings through various social classes each time you bring him more rupees, until he is basically a wealthy billionaire lounging on a golden sofa. In his boss battle, he flies around on his sofa, shooting lightning, using tables as shields, sending his cats to attack, taking on three forms including a grand form, a green cloud, and a giant head form. He is also protected by two bodyguards with rupee guns.

Since I don't think he can quite take on actual Moblins, Tingle's main adversaries are the Oinkers, smaller pig enemies who are seen throwing bombs, using swords and shields, casting spells, rolling around on balls, spinning with their swords, getting into a circle and raging together, and calling in more Oinkers, while their chief can throw meteors, float, slash, and cast waves of magic. Other enemies are general knockoffs of Zelda enemies or actual animals, like Antlions, Ants, Otters, Crabs, Crocodiles, Squirrels, Bunnies, Catfish, Cockroaches, Cows, Rats, Bats, Spiders, Bears, Moles, Turtles, Sheep, Penguins, Ducks, Sharks, Lizards, Owls, Bees, Camels, and Turkeys.

The bosses include a giant Death Bug, a pirate Captain Stalfos (similar to other versions but with a fireball attack), a Bana Bana plant, a Dora Dora dragon, and an Ultra Death Bug. The mini-bosses include a ghost ringleader, and a floating head called Baron.

The game takes place across three continents with several major dungeons and towns to visit. You start in Tingle's Room just outside of Port Town, with the Western Pool to one side where you deposit all of your Rupees. The dungeons include Hero's Shrine, Pirate Hideaway, Deku Temple, Insect Cavern, and Desma's Labyrinth, with Captain Stalfos's ship acting as a mini-dungeon. Other notable locations include Sunshine Seashore, Cape Treasure, Lon Lon Meadow, Deku Forest, Gooey Swamp, Mount Desma, Fairy Garden, and the Auros Ruins.

I think we've covered just about everything, here's what we've got so far:
