Alright, let's start off with the Cheep Cheeps! Now, before now, the Cheep Cheeps didn't really have much to work with, as they were basically just "the fish" of the Mario world. Now, there were related species, like Big Bertha, Porcupuffers, and so on, but none of it really added up to anything. Going into the Paper Mario games, I said to myself that Sushie was going to be their last chance at playability. If she couldn't do it, nothing could. Well, here we are.

Sushie is your Cheep Cheep companion in the first Paper Mario title. She starts out as a babysitter for a bunch of baby Yoshis and joins you to help find them all when they go missing. She moves along the ground by bouncing slightly, so that eases concerns about mobility. Her moves include a belly flop, squirting a stream of water at you, creating a block of water as a shield, and riding a tidal wave. Add on top of this all of the incidental Cheep Cheep-related stuff from previous games, like the Porcupuffers, leaping high out of the water, eating opponents, and so on, I think we have just enough. Let's do it.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Squirt
The Cheep Cheep will squirt a stream of water similar to Sushie's second move in the game and to other fish enemies throughout the Mario and Yoshi series.

Side B: Surf
This one is similar to Sushie's tidal wave move, but also takes ideas from things like Squirtle's side B. Basically she will surf across the stage on a small wave. Another possible idea is that she will open her mouth wide and swallow an opponent whole for a couple of seconds.

Up B: Leap
This one is based on the basic Cheep Cheep move of leaping high out of the water as far as they can go. She will basically do just that. Sushie, or general Cheep Cheep, will launch themselves high into the air before coming back down. The whole swallowing thing could potentially be worked into this one as well.

Down B: Water Block OR Porcupuffer
Either one of these work and either one works as a defensive move. The only difference would be that Porcupuffer would do damage to the attacker in return.

Final Smash: Tidal Wave
This one would be exactly like the Tidal Wave move from Paper Mario. Water would fill the screen, crushing the opponents with a wave, with the Cheep Cheep surfing around and doing damage within it. Another possibility I considered was Unagi, the giant eel from several games, during which two Unagis would cross the stage in opposite directions, chomping up any player in their path.

Entrance: Hopping out of the water and flopping around a bit.

Taunt: Floating in the air and swimming around with a blank stare for a second, swimming through the air in a circle with a circle of coins following them, so on.

Thanks for reading! Next up, let's check out the Bob-Ombs, courtesy of Bombette and Bobbery!
