Gryll & Mr. Star

GRYLL & MR. STAR

Alongside all of its main games, the Kirby series had a large number of spinoff games, often in the form of small puzzle games. One among these was the Star Stacker game, a Tetris-like matching block game.

In the second of these games, expanded from the first, a story was added of a small star named Mr. Star falling from the sky and seeking out Kirby’s help to get back to his friend, a witch named Gryll, who would act as the final boss.

As fighters, Gryll and Mr. Star would act as a tag team, flying around on Gryll’s broom. Their moveset would pull from the entire Star Stacker series, making them overall representatives of the games.

Likelihood rating: Never gonna happen.

Zero/Zero-Two

ZERO/ZERO-TWO

At the end of Dream Land 3, Kirby will fight Dark Matter once again, flying into its center and finding there a giant eyeball that will act as the true final boss.

This is Zero, Dark Matter’s core. In Kirby 64, a similar situation will occur, except the eye will be slightly different, and called Zero-Two. It is known for being one of the most un-kid friendly bosses in a kid’s game, attacking Kirby with squirts of blood as its main attack.

As a fighter, Zero will be large and powerful with decent aerials. Its moveset will pull from both its own boss battle as well as Zero-Two’s. Both will be represented through color swaps.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Adeleine

ADELEINE

At the end of the fourth level of Dream Land 3, Kirby will face a young painter possessed by Dark Matter, with the power to bring her paintings to life.

This is Ado. Conflicting information disagrees on whether or not she is the same person as Adeleine, but if the same, Adeleine would go on to be a major supporting character in Kirby 64, supplying Kirby with health items through her paintings, and would have sparse appearances here and there afterwards.

As a fighter, Adeleine’s main gimmick would be her paintings, creating monsters and items to attack from afar and letting her stay out of the fighting for the most part. Her moveset would pull from all of her various appearances.

Likelihood rating: Good Possibility.

Pitch

PITCH

Kirby’s sixth and final animal buddy was a small green bird that Kirby had to carry around in front of him.

This is Pitch. Pitch’s combos often centered around Kirby using him as a weapon in some way, being small enough that Kirby can swing him around and wield him in different ways.

As a fighter, Pitch will be small and light, with not a lot of strength behind him, but decently good aerials. His moveset will pull from his own various combos.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Nago

NAGO

Another animal buddy of Kirby’s is a large cat who will grab onto and hold Kirby like a playtoy.

This is Nago. His combos were often built on the notion of him playing with Kirby, tossing him around or rolling with him or sliding him along the ground.

As a fighter, Nago will be big with more strength than even he realizes. His moveset will pull from his various combos.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Chuchu

CHUCHU

Kirby’s Dream Land 3 brought back the Animal Buddy gimmick, adding in three more buddies on top of the pre-existing three. The first of these was a small octopus that rode on Kirby’s head.

This is Chuchu. Most of her copy ability combinations made use of her tentacles and her squishy, stretchy body.

As a fighter, Chuchu will be a very slippery and quick little character with an erratic playstyle. Her moveset will pull from her various combos.

Likelihood rating: Probably not. There might be a non-Sakurai clause attached, since there does seem to be some bias there. I won’t be adding that for two reasons: A) I’d rather give the man the benefit of the doubt, and B) that would basically apply to all characters moving forward, so . . .

Bandana Waddle Dee

BANDANA WADDLE DEE

Most Kirby games come with a handful of sub-games separate from the main story. For Super Star, this included Megaton Punch, a block-breaking game, where Kirby’s first opponent was a special Waddle Dee wearing a bandana.

Though this is technically his true origin, Bandana Waddle Dee would not see true importance until Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, where he joined Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight as the main playable characters. He wielded a spear, and would go on to play significant roles in every subsequent game, and even tended to be the go-to player 2 in many games.

As a fighter, Bandana Waddle Dee will be quick and light, using his spear for most of his attacks. His moveset will pull from all of his major appearances across the series.

Likelihood rating: Strong.
