TORIZO
And now, let's take a quick break to go over our new characters from the six games that fall under the "Metroid" label (no Primes or remakes). As you can see, we have twenty (or twenty-five to be more accurate, but we'll get to those. They are:
1. Samus Aran
2. Adam Malkovitch
3. Mother Brain
4. MB*
5. Ridley
6. Kraid
7. Raven Beak
8. SA-X
9. Space Pirate
10. Kihunter
11. Metroid
12. X-Parasite
13. Autoad
14. Chozo Soldier
15. Robot Chozo Soldier
16. EMMI
17. Torizo
18. Phantoon
19. Nightmare
20. Metroid Queen
Super Metroid introduced a fun new concept for a mini-boss. In the first game, you became accustomed to Chozo statues simply being places of relief, where you were granted a powerful new item to use. You'd never expect then to approach one and have it come to life, walking toward you and attacking you with full intent to kill.
These are called Torizo, and they come in two varieties, the first and then the second more powerful Golden Torizo. They can spit bombs from their mouth, drop rubble from above, jump up high and slam back down, release energy waves, and drop explosive eggs behind them. More than enough, I should think.
Here's the movesets I came up with:
Standard B: Bombs
The statue will open its mouth and shoot bombs from it as projectiles, exploding on impact with the ground or a player.
Side B: Crescent Slice
The statue will slash forward, causing a wave of energy to shoot forward from itself and strike opponents.
Up B: High Jump
The statue will crouch and leap high into the air, before coming back down in a strike.
Down B: Egg
An egg will drop out of the Torizo's chest, that will linger on the stage for a while before hatching into a small birdlike creature and attack the nearest opponent.
Final Smash: Zebes Destruction
The statue will slam hard on the ground. The stage will start to shake and tremble as rubble drops from above, dealing heavy damage, before the entire thing explodes in a flash.
Entrance: A regular chozo statue will be sitting on the stage.
Taunts: All three are some variation of turning back into a regular Chozo statue, except with a Screw Attack, Missile, and Bomb in its hands.
Kirby Hat: Their head as a hat.
Kart: Based on a Chozo Statue.
Special Move: They will leave behind a Chozo Statue with a bonus item sitting in their palm.
Spirit Battle: On Brinstar.
Victory Screen: The Torizo will nod, then revert back to its statue state.
Losing Screen: The Torizo will fall over broken.
Color Swaps: Regular Torizo color, Golden Torizo color, based on the Varia Suit, based on Ridley, based on Kraid, based on Phantoon, based on Crocomire, based on Draygon.
Thanks for reading! Next up, a boss I didn't expect to include.
