MARIO GOLF: TOADSTOOL TOUR
Today, let's cover Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, the series' entry for the Game Cube. The game gets a bit more complex with its golf mechanics, allowing you to give the ball topspin or backspin, determining the direction it rolls once it lands, and gives you power shots under certain conditions. It also adds in a number of hazards such as wind and rain, pipes that transport your ball somewhere else, mushrooms that bounce your ball away, and enemies like Thwomps and Whomps that stomp on your ball and flatten it, or Piranha Plants that eat the ball and spit it somewhere else.
Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Bowser all return from the previous game, with Daisy, Waluigi, Birdo, Diddy Kong, and Koopa joining on the base roster, and Bowser Jr., Shadow Mario, Petey Piranha (noticing some big Sunshine representation here), and Boo appear as unlockables. Like before, the RPG protagonists of the game's handheld counterpart can be transferred to the game, but we'll talk about them next time.
Our stages this time include Lakitu Valley, a generic course; Cheep Cheep Falls, a wooded area with a waterfall; Shifting Sands, a desert region; Blooper Bay, a beach area; Peach's Castle Grounds, featuring her castle in the middle; Bowser Badlands, a lava-filled course; and Congo Canopy, a DK-themed course.
Let's see what we've got!
