Character Sheet: The Litleo Line

LITLEO/PYROAR

Next up, we have our first ever Normal/Fire combo in Litleo and Pyroar, based on lions, with the Pyroars having distinct gender differences similar to real world lions. They also gained some infamy recently with their notoriously disappointing new Mega.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ember > Incinerate

Side B: Fire Fang > Crunch

Up B: Take Down

Down B: Noble Roar > Hyper Voice

Final Smash: Overheat > Mega Pyroar

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Licking itself, doing the "Lion King" roar, lounging around, things like that.

Kirby Hat: The manes

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Noble Roar

Spirit Battle: On Kalos Pokemon League, the fire setting.

Victory Screen: Standing up on a rock and doing the "Lion King" roar.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors for both male and female.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Flabebe prepares its ultimate weapon!

Character Sheet: The Scatterbug Line

SCATTERBUG/SPEWPA/VIVILLON

Next up, we have the regional bugs of the generation, this time based on butterflies once again, but this type specifically focusing on all the different beautiful wing patterns butterflies tend to have, with twenty distinct variations mostly based on the region of the world the player happens to live in.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Bug Bite > Poison Powder (II)

Side B: String Shot > Psybeam (III)

Up B: Tackle > Gust (III)

Down B: Stun Spore > Harden (II) > Light Screen (III)

Final Smash: Vivillon Swarm

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Fluttering around happily, munching on leaves, preening its wings, things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their antennae, cocoon, and later wings

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Poison Powder

Spirit Battle: On Kalos Pokemon League, base form

Victory Screen: Crawling around and eating leaves, and later fluttering around happily with a swarm of its fellows.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: All twenty different varieties, with matching forms for the earlier stages.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Litleo rules as king of the jungle!

Character Sheet: The Fletchling Line

FLETCHLING/FLETCHINDER/TALONFLAME

Next up, we have the regional birds of the generation, and the first to have a different typing than just Normal/Flying (unless you count Wingull and Pelipper). Fletchling is based on a red-breasted robin, but the line grows into a peregrine falcon, which Talonflame is based on.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ember > Flare Blitz (III)

Side B: Quick Attack > Flame Charge (II)

Up B: Acrobatics > Fly (III)

Down B: Peck > Feint (II)

Final Smash: Aerial Ace > Brave Bird (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Pecking around on the ground, spreading its wings and screeching, diving really fast, things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their beak and head feathers

Kart: Just flying

Special Move: Flame Charge

Spirit Battle: On Go Stadium, Team Valor colors

Victory Screen: Racing fast around the screen, and then roosting in their nest.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, Scatterbug shows its true colors!

Monday, January 19, 2026

Character Sheet: The Bunnelby Line

BUNNELBY/DIGGERSBY

And now for . . . what might be one of my least favorite art designs of the series, the regional critters Bunnelby and Diggersby. They are based on rabbits, specifically the burrowing kind, with earthmover arms and construction workers added into the inspiration as well. And that is definitely dirt on Diggersby's face, made to look like a construction worker's beard, and definitely doesn't look like it's been eating . . . something else.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Brutal Swing

Side B: Quick Attack > Bulldoze

Up B: Tackle > Bounce

Down B: Mud Shot > Dig

Final Smash: Earthquake

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Hopping around and wiggling its nose, doing the whole "clean ears with paws" thing rabbits do, digging around with the big ear claw things, things like that.

Kirby Hat: The ears, maybe the "dirt"-eating grin?

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Brutal Swing

Spirit Battle: On Lively Town

Victory Screen: Acting like a construction working packing up at the end of the day.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, Fletchling takes to the skies!

Saturday, January 17, 2026

Character Sheet: The Froakie Line

FROAKIE/FROGADIER/GRENINJA

And now, we come to the Water starter of Gen VI, we have Froakie, Frogadier, and Greninja. They are based on frogs, combined with ninjas as they grow. The final stage, Greninja, is far and away the single most popular Pokemon of the generation, to the point that it was included as a playable character in Smash, and Ash's in the anime had a particularly notable arc with him.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Water Gun > Water Shuriken (III)

Side B: Lick > Night Slash (III)

Up B: Pound > Smokescreen (II)

Down B: Water Pulse > Substitute (II)

Final Smash: Hydro Pump > Mega Greninja (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Taking up ninja poses, charging its water shuriken, hopping around and croaking, things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their heads as hats

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Water Shuriken

Spirit Battle: On Lumiose City

Victory Screen: Taking up a ninja pose then disappearing in a puff of smoke.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color swaps: Main, shiny, Ash-Greninja, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, Bunnelby burrows into battle!

Friday, January 16, 2026

Character Sheet: The Fennekin Line

FENNEKIN/BRAIXEN/DELPHOX

Next up, we have the Fire Starters of Gen VI, Fennekin, Braixen, and Delphox. They are based primarily on fennec foxes, with witches, the type you might find in a Grimm Fairy Tale, mixed in, and just a little bit of the Oracle of Delphi from Greek religion mixed in. They are fun.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ember > Psybeam (II)

Side B: Flame Charge > Mystical Fire (III)

Up B: Fire Spin > Will O' Wisp (III)

Down B: Tail Whip > Light Screen (II) > Magic Room (III)

Final Smash: Fire Blast > Mega Delphox (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Waving around their magic wand/fire stick thing, chasing their tail, things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their ears

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Mystical Fire

Spirit Battle: On Kalos Pokemon League, Fire version

Victory Screen: Waving around its wand as if completing a spell

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, Froakie makes a splash!

Thursday, January 15, 2026

Character Sheet: The Chespin Line

CHESPIN/QUILLADIN/CHESNAUGHT

Back at it again with our Pokedex, we start with the Grass starter line of the generation. Chespin, Quilladin, and Chesnaught are mostly based on hedgehogs mixed with chestnuts, with some aspects of knights, paladins, and vikings worked into the final stage. They generally seem to be one of the more derided starter lines in the whole series, at least up until Z-A. The new Mega seems to have garnered it some points in the fandom.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Pin Missile > Wood Hammer (III)

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Vine Whip > Take Down (II) > Body Slam (III)

Down B: Leech Seed > Seed Bomb (II) > Spiky Shield (III)

Final Smash: Wood Hammer > Mega Chesnaught (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Rolling up and then popping out, causing seeds to burst around it, things like that.

Kirby Hat: The chestnut shell

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Wood Hammer

Spirit Battle: On Geosenge Town

Victory Screen: Dancing around and popping in and out of its shell

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, Fennekin casts a spell upon you!

Character Sheet: Shadow Mewtwo

SHADOW MEWTWO

For this generation, we have four newcomers that lie outside of the standard Pokedex, and will be placed in the Non-Dex roster. They are:

1. Figure Trainer

2. Lisia

3. Pikachu Libre

4. Shadow Mewtwo

The second original fighter from Pokken Tournament was Shadow Mewtwo, more or less the main boss of the game, who was Mewtwo accidentally fused with a Shadow Synergy Stone, turning it violent and malicious. Much of the plot of the game revolves around stopping it and using a Synergy Stone to turn it back to regular Mewtwo.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Psywave

Side B: Psystrike

Up B: Teleport

Down B: Reflect

Final Smash: Dark Nova

Entrance: Mewtwo grasping the stone and merging with it.

Taunts: Up, rising into the air and laughing maniacally. Side, spreading its hands and summoning synergy stones around it. Down, staring into the shadow synergy stone.

Kirby Hat: Same as Mewtwo but with the dark coloring, and the big spike growth thing on his shoulder.

Kart: Just flying

Special Move: Dark Nova

Spirit Battle: On Neos City

Victory Screen: Its victory screen from the game.

Losing Screen: Its losing pose from the game.

Color Swaps: Color variants based on the different Mewtwo colors.

Thanks for reading! Now, let us begin our Pokedex run. First up, Chespin goes nuts!

Tuesday, January 13, 2026

Character Sheet: Pikachu Libre

PIKACHU LIBRE

For this generation, we have four newcomers that lie outside of the standard Pokedex, and will be placed in the Non-Dex roster. They are:

1. Figure Trainer

2. Lisia

3. Pikachu Libre

4. Shadow Mewtwo

Pokken Tournament mostly used regular Pokemon as its fighters, just reworked to function like Tekken battles. Two fighters, however, stood out from the rest, as unique variants on existing fighters with completely unique movesets of their own. The first was Pikachu Libre, based on the costume for Pikachu released for ORAS, with a wrestling-focused moveset. As she is distinct from the regular Pikachu, she'll join the human characters in the non-dex roster.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Discharge

Side B: Wild Charge

Up B: Flying Press

Down B: Electroweb

Final Smash: Thunderclap Press

Entrance: Standing on the ropes and pumping her fist.

Taunts: Up, raising up and pumping her fists. Side, making a "bring it on" pose. Down, rolling back and forth on her back.

Kirby Hat: The mask.

Kart: A kart based on a luchador ring.

Special Move: Thunderclap Press

Spirit Battle: On Neos City

Victory Screen: Her victory screen from the game.

Losing Screen: Her losing pose from the game.

Color Swaps: Color variants based on different luchadors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Shadow Mewtwo rises from the darkness!

Monday, January 12, 2026

Character Sheet: Lisia

LISIA

For this generation, we have four newcomers that lie outside of the standard Pokedex, and will be placed in the Non-Dex roster. They are:

1. Figure Trainer

2. Lisia

3. Pikachu Libre

4. Shadow Mewtwo

Throughout Gen III and IV, and revived briefly in Gen IV with the Gen III remakes, players could compete in Pokemon Contests, which allowed them to dress up their characters and their Pokemon and put on a beauty show. This feature was heavily underutilized in the games, causing it to fizzle out as a feature, sadly, but given a lot of focus in both the anime and manga. Lisia was introduced in ORAS as a rival specifically for the contests, who was averse to regular Pokemon battling, making her a prime target as a character to represent the Contest gimmick as a whole.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Appeal

She will have Ali the Altaria out with her the entire match. During this, she will have Ali perform its appeal move for the audience, which will affect the players around them in the process.

Side B: Pose

Lisia and Ali will strike a pose, causing a camera flash that will stun nearby players.

Up B: Twirl

Lisia and Ali will twirl upwards with a ribbon before posing at the top and coming back down.

Down B: PokeBlock

Lisia will feed Ali some PokeBlock and replenish a bit of its health and stats.

Final Smash: Grand Performance

The stage of the Pokemon Contests will appear, and Lisia will lead Ali and a troupe of other contestant Pokemon in a dance performance.

Entrance: Rising onto the stage and posing.

Taunts: Up, Lisia will raise her hands, and Ali will alight into them. Side, Lisia and Ali will perform a little dance. Down, Lisia and Ali will sit in chaise lounges as if resting for the next performance.

Kirby Hat: Lisia's hair

Kart: A parade float where they can perform

Special Move: Pose

Spirit Battle: On Beauty Contest, even though we're going back to an older gen's stage.

Victory Screen: Lisia and Ali being presented a ribbon like from the anime.

Losing Screen: Losing and hanging their heads.

Color Swaps: All the different outfits available in the game.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Pikachu Libre is ready to rumble!

Saturday, January 10, 2026

Character Sheet: Figure Trainer

FIGURE TRAINER

For this generation, we have four newcomers that lie outside of the standard Pokedex, and will be placed in the Non-Dex roster. They are:

1. Figure Trainer

2. Lisia

3. Pikachu Libre

4. Shadow Mewtwo

First up is the Figure Trainer, pulling from the short-lived Pokemon Trading Figure Game and its tie-in video game Pokemon Duel. Although as far as I could tell, the Player's Avatar had no canon character design, the player was guided in the game by a pair of rivals, Luca and Sharon. These will act as the main body of the character.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Figure Swap

Luca or Sharon will send out a figure to act in front of them, based on those of the first set that had been released, and maybe some of the planned two that never fully came out. Pressing it again will swap out the figures. They'll probably have a randomly selected group of five, but maybe people who still have some of the original figures will be able to plug them into the game somehow or something.

Side B: Attack

Basically, the present figure will land on a White or Purple space and perform the attack listed there, doing damage to their opponent.

Up B: Spin

The player will give the figure a little spin and be carried upward by it.

Down B: Dodge

The figure will land on the blue space and dodge an attack.

Final Smash: Figure Storm

The figures of the first three sets will swarm the stage, performing attacks on all around them.

Entrance: Luca or Sharon will step up and pull out a favorite figure

Taunts: Up, picking up and polishing the figure. Side, spinning it for a second. Down, laying out the game board for a second.

Kirby Hat: Luca's hair

Kart: A small platform based on their figure bases.

Special Move: Spin

Spirit Battle: On Go Stadium

Victory Screen: Placing the figure on the Goal space and cheering!

Losing Screen: Getting sent to the Pokemon Center space.

Color Swaps: Luca, Sharon, swapping with alternate colors based on the gym bosses released for the game.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Lisia is ready to put on a show!

Miscellaneous Gen VI Games

MISCELLANEOUS GEN VI GAMES

Next up, we have all of the smaller games I didn't cover before. First, we have The Thieves and the 1000 Pokemon, a free downloadable game for the Nintendo 3DS that was mostly a resource management game based on aspects of the Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction movie. Then we have Camp Pokemon, a small app that taught kids the basics of Pokemon games. Then we have Learn Real English Through Pokemon: XY Translation Scope, an educational game. Then Pokemon Jukebox, a music app, and Dancing? Pokemon Band, a rhythm game. Pokemon Shuffle got a mobile version, we got a dedicated Pokemon Picross game, Pokemon Photo Booth was another app, and Detective Pikachu, which would fully release in the next generation, had a demo drop early in the form of Detective Pikachu - Birth of a New Duo. Pokemon Ga-Ole was another arcade game in the same vein as the Tretta and Battrio games.

As for the crossovers of this generation, Pokemon got several entries in the Nintendo Badge Arcade game, but more importantly, both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4 came out, with Pikachu, Charizard, Lucario, Jigglypuff, and Mewtwo all returning as characters, and Greninja added in, as the big iconic Pokemon of this generation. New stages included Unova Pokemon League, Kalos Pokemon League, and Lumiose City.

And that's pretty much it! Here's what we've got so far:

Pokemon Go

POKEMON GO

I think we all remember the craze ten years ago, when a game came out that let you walk around with your phone and catch Pokemon in "real" life, using an augmented reality style that showed Pokemon appearing before you. It certainly got people out and walking around and such. And also getting themselves into all sorts of trouble, but, to be fair, so do normal Pokemon protagonists, so that's just immersion.

Naturally, given the difference of medium, some aspects of gameplay were changed. For instance, you didn't battle wild Pokemon to catch them, you just threw a Poke Ball at them, using in-game items like candy and stardust to affect your catch rate. There was also a whole Team system, where you could be part of Team Mystic, Team Instinct, and Team Valor, based on the three Legendary Birds. The game started with just the Gen I Pokemon, but over time other generations have been added. At this moment, almost all have been released, with only about eighty-eight still unavailable.

Here's what we've got so far:

Pokemon Duel

POKEMON DUEL

Well, the Pokemon Trading Card Game got a ton of digital versions, I suppose it was only a matter of time before the Pokemon Trading Figure Game got a digital version too. It plays about the same, with some differences to adapt to the new medium, and had a slight story mode with a player avatar and a companion named Luca, facing "hotel owners" who act as gym leaders, including Yuji, Nadya, Joe, Brenda, Don Roger, Number 7, and Master Rose, with three others planned, but service on the game was discontinued before it could finish.

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

POKEMON SUPER MYSTERY DUNGEON

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon is the currently final original game in the Mystery Dungeon series. Like most games in the series, you play as a human-turned-Pokemon, chosen from each of the eighteen currently existing starters, plus Pikachu and Riolu. Your partner is also pulled from this list. After being found, you are taken in by a Nuzleaf and enrolled at a local Pokemon school, where you meet the partner and decide to become adventurers together.

Most notable characters include your fellow classmates, a Farfetch'd teacher, your partner's parental figure Carracosta, the Expedition Society, a Krookodile gangster, and Yveltal, the villain for most of the game and Nuzleaf's master. He also has Beheeyem serving him. The true final boss is called Dark Matter. Not to be confused with the Kirby character, but also . . . kinda. It attacks with tendrils and spikes made of darkness.

Some locations in the game include Serene Village and the school, Lively Town and the Expedition Society, the Voidlands, the Sea of Wonders, the Tree of Life, and lots and lots of procedurally generated dungeons across five continents you visit with the Expedition Society.

And that's about it. Here's what we've got so far:

Pokken Tournament

POKKEN TOURNAMENT

Next up, we have Pokken Tournament, a crossover of sorts between Tekken and Pokemon, featuring Pokemon facing each other in fighting game battles similar to the Tekken series. I'm not sure if the selected fighters are picked to mimic a specific fighter from Tekken or not, as I'm not well versed enough in Tekken to say myself, and I've never come across anyone who goes through the fighters and lists who they're supposed to be, not for lack of trying. All I know is Blaziken is definitely the Jin Kazama of the game.

Anyway, the main playable Pokemon are Lucario, Pikachu, Machamp, Gardevoir, Weavile, Suicune, Charizard, Gengar, Blaziken, Pikachu Libre, Sceptile, Chandelure, Mewtwo, Shadow Mewtwo, Garchomp, and Braixen, with Darkrai, Scizor, Croagunk, Empoleon, Decidueye, Aegislash, and Blastoise added later. There's also a ton of supporting Pokemon that add in assists. There's also the human characters in the avatar (I'm not sure they have a name), Nia, and Anne, who are important to the plot. Most have movesets based on their own Pokemon moves, reworked to be Tekken gameplay. The two I most want to focus on are Pikachu Libre and Shadow Mewtwo, who have distinct movesets unique to themselves, separate from Pikachu and Mewtwo.

The game takes place in the Ferrum League, with such battle arenas as Ferrum Stadium, Neos City, Old Ferrum Town, Tellur Town, Phos Volcano, Diggersby Land, Ferrum Dojo, the Training Gym, Haunted House, Mystery Carnival, Regi Ruins, Blue Dome, Magikarp Festival, Dragon's Nest, Dark Colosseum, Snow Gift, and Thalia Beach. I think I favor Neos City as a representing stage best.

Next up is Pokemon Rumble World, the fourth entry in the Rumble series. It's about the same as the rest of the series, with you controlling little mini toy versions of Pokemon as they bump into each other in big circular battlefields. There is a story mode with a king asking your Mii to catch a bunch of Pokemon for him, but it's mostly cosmetic.

Pokemon Shuffle

POKEMON SHUFFLE

Next up is Pokemon Shuffle, a 3DS game and later mobile puzzle game very similar to Trozei, with Pokemon heads acting as the tiles, and requiring you to line up rows of them to eliminate them and rack up points, with "wild Pokemon" acting as your opponents that you can catch once you defeat them. There's not really much else to say about it. Very simple but fun.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

POKEMON OMEGA RUBY AND ALPHA SAPPHIRE

Next up, we return to Hoenn for our Gen III remakes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. A lot of the core plot and elements are mostly the same, with all of our old favorite characters returning, with updated designs and such. New mechanics have been worked in, like Mega Evolution, with Mega Latias and Latios notably taking over the Fly HM's role for fast travel. New characters include Aarune, who teaches you about secret bases; Lisia, who is your main rival in the Pokemon contests, and probably the first character entirely devoted to that role; and Zinnia, a strange girl involved in the post-game Delta Episode, who helps you summon Mega Rayquaza to help you save the Earth from an incoming meteorite. The most important new location is Sea Mauville, which has replaced the Abandoned Ship.
