Character Sheet: Tatanga (Original Handhelds)

TATANGA

Now, let's quickly go over the few new characters and those who need revision. It's probably no surprise that there are only a few of both in total:

1. Mario (Revision)
8. Koopa Troopa (Revision)
10. Goomba (Revision)
11. Piranha Plant (Revision)
12. Boo (Revision)
35. Princess Daisy
36. Wario
37. Tatanga
38. Captain Syrup

Today, let's check out Tatanga, the main villain of Super Mario Land, who returned briefly as a boss in Super Mario Land 2. Tatanga is an alien who invaded Princess Daisy's kingdom of Sarasa-Land, abducting her and taking over. It would soon turn out that he was working with Wario as a distraction to keep Mario occupied while Wario took over Mario's island (that he apparently has).

Tatanga spends most of his time inside of his personal spacecraft, a larger one for his final boss fight in Super Mario Land and a smaller, more spherical design for his Super Mario Land 2 boss fight. For practicality's sake, I'd say he'll probably be using the second ship in his gameplay, or possibly an amalgamation of the two, with mechanical appendages for grabbing and so on. In his first game, he primarily attacks by firing three energy balls in a fan shape out from him, while in the second game, he fires a crescent of energy forward, while at the same time dropping a small orb that travels along the ground before cracking open and firing straight up. And, as the main villain of a game, he like Wart before him, can also act as a reference character if need be, with all unique enemies of the game answering directly to him. Yeah, I think we can work this.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Crescent
This one acts as a basic  projectile move, with his crescent beam from the second game firing from the front of his vehicle and traveling along a straight path.

Side B: Orb Spray
This one will require some charging, as he powers up his ship and fires off a spray of orbs in a fan shape that hit all players in the vicinity.

Up B: Hover
This move is his primary recovery move, with glowing rings of energy lighting up from beneath his pod allowing him to float upward some distance into the air.

Down B: Exploding Orb
Tatanga will release a small orb from beneath his pod that will travel along any surface for a brief period of time before exploding and sending a fireball straight up. This can be a very effective and damaging move.

Final Smash: King Totomesu
The first boss of Super Mario Land, a giant sphinx named King Totomesu, pounces onto the stage at Tatanga's command, breathing fire across the stage and roasting all players caught in the blast.

Entrance: Floating down from above with that alien saucer whistle noise (you know the one).

Taunts: Uncertain. Very little character shown. Maybe messing with his controls.

Thanks for reading! Next time, let's check out Wario's arch-nemesis, Captain Syrup!
