Character Sheet: Wes and Rui

WES AND RUI

And now, we come to our new batch of non-Pokemon characters for that roster, coming mostly from the spinoff games. They include:

1. Wes and Rui

2. Michael

3. Pokemon Ranger

4. Lucy Fleetfoot

5. Baron Phobos

First up are Wes and Rui, the protagonists of Pokemon Colosseum. Wes is similar in nature to a Pokemon Trainer, with a lot of the same mechanics, except that he can steal Pokemon from other people, rides a big Mad Max-style hover vehicle, and he can purify Shadow Pokemon. Rui acts as his companion, able to identify Shadow Pokemon with her special eyes.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Snagem

Wes will power up his snagging device and throw a Poke Ball, capturing a player inside it. This won't be as easy to break out of.

Side B: Desert Rider

Wes will barrel across the stage on his vehicle, kicking up dust behind him.

Up B: Cipher Lift

A lift will appear under Wes and Rui, carrying them upward.

Down B: Espeon and Umbreon

Wes will send his two main faithful Pokemon forward, who will strike the opponent twice.

Final Smash: Purification

Rui will identify an opponent as corrupted, Wes will capture them, and then the opponent will find themselves in the purification cutscene, being freed of their evil essence.

Entrance: Wes and Rui will arrive on Wes's vehicle.

Taunts: Up, Wes will raise his Snagem machine in the air. Side, Wes will scratch his head as Rui bounces around merrily. Down, the pair will play with Espeon and Umbreon.

Kirby Hat: Wes's hair and facepaint

Kart: Wes's vehicle

Special Move: Snagem

Spirit Battle: On Pyrite Colosseum, with two Pokemon joining the player.

Victory Screen: Their battle victory animation

Losing Screen: Their lost battle animation.

Color Swaps: Wes's blue coat, Michael's orange, a pink based on Rui, costumes based on Gonzap, Duking, Willie, Eagun, and Miror B. Rui has costumes matching each in some way.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Michael battles through the darkness.

Pokemon Colosseum

POKEMON COLOSSEUM

When I was a kid, I though Colosseum was just the next step in the Stadium series. That was a very incorrect assumption. Actually, it is much more of a grittier, edgier RPG set in the Pokemon universe, with an edgy protagonist who used to be a member of a gang that steals Pokemon from other people, and still uses that ability to steal Pokemon from the "bad guys."

The game follows Wes, our protagonist, who functions more or less like your usual Pokemon trainer, starting out with an Espeon and an Umbreon, but who can steal Pokemon using a technique called snagging, and who rides around the desert landscape of the Orre region on a big Mad Max-looking bike. He is accompanied on his adventure by a girl named Rui who can see when a Pokemon has "had its heart closed," making it a Shadow Pokemon. Basically, she's the one who tells you it's okay to steal that one. Wes and Rui also learn how to purify Pokemon from being Shadow Pokemon.

The most notable named characters who can battle you include the main members of Cipher, the evil organization, including the apparent leader Nascour, the admins Miror B, Dakim, Venus, and Ein, and the true leader Evice, who had been presenting himself to you as your ally Mayor Es Cade. There's also Rider Willie, a friend of yours, and Gonzap, the leader of Team Snagem, the team of Pokemon thieves Wes betrayed at the beginning. Other notable figures include Duking, an authority figure in Pyrite Town; the Kids Grid, a group of kids running an underground information network against Cipher; and Eagun and Beluh, Rui's grandparents.

The region of Orre where the game takes place is a flat barren wasteland with quite a few iconic locations around the area. These include: Outskirt Stand, the starting location; Phenac City, a city that is a fountain; Pyrite Town, a broken down old town that looks like it's built out of junk; The Under, which exists underneath Pyrite; Agate Village, a retirement community; Team Snagem's hideout; and Realgam Tower, Team Cipher's headquarters. Most of the cities have a colosseum somewhere in them where you can compete in battles. There is also Mt. Battle, a series of a hundred continuous battles that work their way up a volcano. I think I've got it all from there.
