Legend of Zelda Second Chance Round (Part 2)

LEGEND OF ZELDA

SECOND CHANCE ROUND

Next up, we have Tetra's crew: Gonzo, Niko, Mako, Zuko, Nudge, and Senza. They are mostly background characters, but also kind of important characters, returning for Phantom Hourglass and everything. The big thing here is that Tetra's moveset is heavily based on everything related to their ship and lives as pirates, so there's no reason they couldn't act, as a group, as her echo. So:

YES

Now, we have an interesting one. Malon has a moveset built around her farm and the animals and implements found there. It would be reasonable for her to have an echo, someone who lives on said farm, or a similar farm. Now we can go two directions here, one, go with Romani and Cremia, who used her same character model, or we could go with Talon or Ingo. I weighed the options, and I'm mostly fine with Romani and Cremia just being named color swaps for Malon, seeing as they are literally just her model re-used. Instead I will give the echo to Talon.

YES

As for Ingo, given the bandits that re-used his skin, his generally crueler nature and use of a whip and pitchfork, I actually think I could make a decent semi-clone out of him, so I'm going to say:

YES

Tarin, I think, will be just fine for now to be a color variant of Talon, as he's not quite as attached to the stuff Marin's moveset came from to warrant him as an echo for her, so:

NO

As for the Pirate Queen, she and "general Gerudo warrior" were both options that arose for Nabooru echoes. And I'm not sure I could quite justify using Urbosa or Riju for one of them. So I simply have to ask myself, which one do I care more about representing, and which one can just be a color variant for Nabooru. And well, the answer was the general Gerudo warrior. So, for the Pirate Queen, I say:

NO

And for Darbus, we technically already covered it. As an echo for Darunia, I say:

YES

And that's it for today! Come back next time for four more characters!

Malon

MALON

Link manages to find and defeat the evil inside the Deku Tree, a Gohma, but is sadly too late to save him as the tree withers and dies. Link and Navi honor his dying wish and head out, leaving the Kokiri forest behind and venturing into Hyrule proper. After traveling for some time, he arrives at the castle in the center and the town surrounding it. In the marketplace, he encounters a young redheaded girl looking for her father.

This is Malon, the daughter of the local ranch’s owner Talon, who helps her father run the ranch and provide supplies to the rest of Hyrule. When Ganondorf takes over, her father’s ranch hand Ingo betrays them, taking over the ranch but keeping Malon on as a servant girl. She and her father will go on to be recurring characters in later games.

As a fighter, Malon will represent Lon Lon Ranch as a whole and everything on it. She will use Cuccos, Lon Lon Milk, and, of course, her horses for her moveset, and she will have more or less average stats, but with surprisingly high strength. She does work on a farm after all.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

I guess there is some contention over whether Malon and her father Talon are the same as Marin and Tarin from Link's awakening, but in my mind, Malon has always been the farmgirl that tends Epona, and Marin has always been the island girl that wants to be a sea gull. Even in most subsequent games, their designs and themes have stayed consistently distinct, but if it is a problem, say, in other languages, I guess they can just be Farm Marin and Island Marin.

Malon is the daughter of the owner of Lon Lon Ranch, Talon, and does most of the work and management, thanks to her father's laziness and her ranch hand Ingo's arrogance. As a result, everything connected to the farm can be attributed to her, including Epona the horse, the Cuccos, the Lon Lon milk drawn from her cows, Ingo's pitchfork, and probably even Romani's bow from Majora's Mask, considering their models are the same.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Romani Bow

She will pull out the bow used by Romani during her alien-related sidequest, allowing her to fire three subsequent shots if pressed in rapid succession.

Side B: Epona's Charge

She will jump on top of Epona and ride her across the stage. She can hop off at any time with a jump, or she can enter the command again to give Epona a burst of speed with a carrot.

Up B: Golden Cucco

She will grab her father's prized Cucco and jump with it, letting it carry her up into the air a short distance.

Down B: Lon Lon Milk

She will pull out a bottle of milk and down it, healing her of some damage.

Final Smash: Romani Ranch Invasion

The aliens from Romani's subplot will drift onscreen with their lights, grabbing any fighters they come across and dragging them offstage.

Entrance: She will appear onstage humming Epona's Song.

Taunts: Up, she will sing Epona's Song for a few seconds. Side, Talon will appear beside her, asleep, as she taps her foot. Down, one of her cows will appear and she will crouch to milk it for a second.

Thanks for reading! Next up, the . . . true villain? of Majora's Mask, the Happy Mask Salesman.
