Today, let's cover Jonathan Jones, the scurvy pirate captain who also happens to be a shark. Jonathan Jones is the main boss of the Sunken Ship area of Super Mario RPG. When one of the game's eponymous seven stars falls into his bay, he and his pirate crew claim it for themselves until Mario and his party arrive to challenge him for it. Once he is defeated, he honors Mario's strength by not only giving him the star but also by preventing the escape of Yaridovich when he tries to steal it. Honestly, this guy's one cool dude and I'm glad he's here.

In battle, he doesn't have as much to work with as you might think, his main attack being a double stab with his harpoon, accompanied by a diamond saw move, a draining move, and a Get Tough! move when his health falls below half, which I think could work similar to Lucario's thing of him getting tougher the more damage he takes. What helps his case, however, is the world that he is the boss of, as he is the leader of a band of pirates living in a sunken ship, and like Booster, most of it can be applied to him as well. Most of his minions are Bandana Blues and Reds who mostly attack with their spears, though the sea and the ship are also infested with rats, crabs, starfish, jellyfish, false treasure chests, and other types of enemies floating around.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Skewer
This one is basically his most iconic move in the game. Johnny will stab forward twice in quick succession with his harpoon, doing damage both coming and going with it.

Side B: Starslap
This one sorta combines the starfish enemies that appear frequently throughout the game, the starfish item used by the players in the game, and the diamond saw item Johnny himself uses. Basically, he will send a starfish spinning forward at high speeds like a boomerang.

Up B: Trampoline
Since he's probably one of the few we see using these outside of the main party in the game, he and his men using them to leap out of the water and block Yaridovich's escape, and these are scattered frequently around his ship as a means to get to the surface quickly, I think it works. I just fear it might look a little silly for this grizzled shark pirate with a hook for a hand to jump around on a trampoline while fighting Jigglypuff.

Down B: Hidon
This is based on the false treasure chest enemies scattered throughout the game (especially in his area). Johnny will toss out a treasure chest and leave it behind. If an opponent approaches it, it will spring to life and attack them, but if Johnny himself approaches it, he can open it to retrieve a useful item.

Final Smash: King Calamari
King Calamari is a mini-boss appearing in Johnny's ship, a giant squid stuck in a barrel. It will appear to one side of the stage and whip its tentacles everywhere, spraying ink as it does so.

Entrance: He will leap from the water accompanied by two Bandana Blues.

Taunts: A Bandana Blue will hop excitedly around him. He will pump his harpoon and raise it to the sky. Maybe pick his teeth with his hook.

Thanks for reading! Next up, we'll cover the usurper of Nimbus Land, Valentina and her minion Dodo!
