At the outset of the SNES era of Nintendo, they started to be able to do a bit more. Better graphics, more complex controls, and ever so slightly pushing into 3D. A game built mostly to show off some early concepts was Star Fox, an on-rails shooter that let you pilot your way through epic space battles controlling ships made of polygons. The plot sets you in the middle of an intergalactic war, in control of a small band of heroes for hire known as Star Fox.
At their head is Fox McCloud, an anthropomorphic fox and dashing hero archetype. Later games would expand his backstory as the son of a fallen hero killed by the main villain Andross, giving him personal stakes in the fight.
As a fighter, Fox will pull heavily from the abilities of his ship and his own when fighting on the ground, as well as, of course, his Smash moveset. He will be fast and speedy, on the moderately light side.
