Ricky

RICKY

As you travel, you will find yourself needing to pick up a few animal companions who help you get around the map, the most prominent and popular of these being an excitable kangaroo with a pair of boxing gloves.

This is Ricky, an animal companion that Link can ride in as he leaps gaps and cliffs Link himself can’t get over, using his gloves to punch enemies out of his way. Much like Maple, this character’s chances were greatly improved by his appearance as a main companion to Link in Himekawa’s manga adaptation.

As a fighter, he will be fast and bouncy, with really strong jumping ability and a good amount of boxer’s strength. His moveset will pull from his abilities demonstrated in-game, his other animal companions, and his appearance in the manga.

Likelihood rating: Probably not.

Character Sheet: Ricky

RICKY

Alright, so we did have one more semi-big character list in us. Let's get into it! This is all characters I could pull out originating from the Legend of Zelda manga, or were given just enough of a boost by the manga to make it into our rankings. They are:

1. Maple

2. Jolene

3. Ricky

4. Captain Stalfos

5. Manga Link

6. Riruto

7. Manga Zelda

8. Raska

9. Tou

10. Ghanti

11. Gonza

12. Kala

13. Captain Arjuna

14. Sir Raven

15. Biri

16. Com

17. Gump

18. Shemlon

19. Rouro

20. Ganon's Minion

21. Ganon's Heart

22. Ganos

23. Haggis

In the Oracles games, Link had a set of animal companions that he could use to get around, including Ricky the kangaroo, Moosh the flying bear, and Dimitri the Dodongo. Ricky was probably the most popular among them, carrying Link around in his pouch and using a pair of boxing gloves to fend off enemies. When Himekawa Akira's adaptation of the games came around, Ricky found his place as the "Ron" to Link's "Harry" and Maple's "Hermione."

The manga also expanded upon his in-game abilities by giving him a multi-jab attack and the ability to create a tornado with his fist. He could also tuck into his own pouch to avoid damage, ski, and he could call upon Moosh to help him out in a jam. I think that works well enough to get a moveset together.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Tornado Fist

Ricky will charge up his fist and punch forward. Depending on how long he charged, a tornado of varying size will burst from it.

Side B: Multi-Jab

Ricky will unleash a volley of quick jabs at his opponent, racking up damage.

Up B: Moosh

While he will have some pretty solid jumps, Moosh the bear will come in for this one, picking up Ricky by his nape and carrying him upwards.

Down B: Pouch

As a defensive move, Ricky will tuck inside his own pouch to avoid damage. He will also pull nearby items and projectiles in with him to use later.

Final Smash: Boxing Champion

Based more on his manga dreams of becoming a boxing champion, he will beat his fists together and then launch into a volley of attacks on his opponent, similar to Donkey Kong's or Little Mac's.

Entrance: He will hop onto the stage and do some training jabs.

Taunts: Up, he will throw his fist into the air in celebration. Side, he will hop back and forth with his fists up in a defensive position. Down, he will rest and wipe his forehead.

Thanks for reading! Next up, an enemy variant who has shown up quite a few times at this point.
