Peachette

The Switch proved a success, and, almost as if trying to make up for the Wii U’s failure, nearly every major game released for the system found itself being ported over, often as a deluxe version with new features. Among these was New Super Mario Bros. U, that combined the elements of both the original version and New Super Luigi U, adding in a few new elements as well. The most prominent of these elements was the addition of Toadette as a playable character, complete with her own power-up that transformed her into a duplicate of Princess Peach.

Toadette’s new form, Peachette, quickly found instant popularity, albeit in a distinctly uncomfortable corner of the internet who thought to take the power-up and apply it to others in the series, most specifically Bowser. Reasons for popularity aside, Peachette would see reappearances in games like Mario Kart Tour and will surely reappear again in the future.

As a playable fighter, Peachette will be an echo fighter of Princess Peach, her moves pulling from all the same moves Peach herself pulled from. She will be lighter and faster, and a little weaker than Peach, owing to the plucky young Toad inside the royal form.

Toadette

With a mainline adventure game firmly established for the Game Cube, the next order of business was to make sure that all of Mario’s most popular spinoffs found representation on the system as well. First was the Mario Kart series, with a brand new entry with the fun gimmick of having two drivers per car. Most of the characters had built-in partners: Mario with Luigi, Peach with Daisy, Wario with Waluigi, and Bowser with his fresh new partner Bowser Jr. In all of this, Toad still needed a good partner.

Along came Toadette, a small female Toad, with a pink head and mushroomy pigtails coming off of it. Sometimes referred to as Toad’s sister, though not quite firmly established, as tends to be the case in the Mario series. Toadette would soon prove incredibly popular, becoming a permanent fixture of most sports titles and even cropping up as a playable character in several adventure games.

As a playable fighter, she will take up a spot as the echo fighter to the soon-to-be-introduced Captain Toad, owing to her role as Player 2 in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Her moves will pull largely from that game, but will also have plenty of her own flair to them and pull from many of her other appearances.

New Super Mario Bros. U Ports

NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. U PORTS

So, today, I'm combining the posts for New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe as they at least are special editions of the same game. NSLU isn't exactly a port, per se, as it was on the same console, but it basically fits every other definition.

New Super Luigi U was a fun revamped edition of the game released to celebrate the Year of Luigi, that removed Mario, making Luigi the main character, with Nabbit stepping up as the four-player slot. The game featured smaller, quicker versions of the original game's levels, but mostly followed the rest of the plot as is.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, otherwise known as launcher of a thousand horny fanarts, was a deluxe edition of the game released for the switch, which included Mario, Luigi, the two Toads, and Nabbit as before, but also with Toadette as a brand-new character. The game also included the Peach Crown, an item solely for Toadette's use and introducing her Peachette form (thus unleashing said horny monster upon the internet). Nabbit and Peachette both owe a lot of their existence to these games, but I've already established their movesets, so I suppose there's not much to say.
