OBSTAGOON/PERRSERKER/CURSOLA/SIRFETCH'D/MR. RIME/RUNERIGUS/REGIELEKI/ REGIDRAGO
And now, we come to our Regional variants for this
generation, just like we had back in Alola. This time, however, we have an
added feature in that some of the Regional forms gained new evolutions for
their lines. We’ll be covering them here as well.
In Pokedex order, we first have Meowth, who gains the Steel
type and takes inspiration from Nordic Vikings and such. Instead of evolving
into Persian this time, however, it becomes Perrserker, leaning even more
heavily into the Viking inspirations.
Standard B: Pay Day > Fury Swipes
Side B: Metal Claw
Up B: Fake Out > Thrash
Down B: Bite > Metal Sound
Final Smash: Dynamax
Ponyta and Rapidash now become Psychic and Fairy, being much
more wholly based on unicorns, and join the Hatenna and Impidimp lines in the
whole Fairy Tale vibe.
Standard B: Psybeam > Psycho Cut
Side B: Agility
Up B: Fairy Wind
Down B: Stomp > Healing Wish
Final Smash: Dynamax
Slowpoke drops its Water typing, and then its evolutions
Slowbro and Slowking instead gain a Poison typing, the poisonous Shellder
biting them infecting them with it and effectively turning them into zombies.
Standard B: Acid > Psychic | Eerie Spell
Side B: Headbutt > Shell Side Arm | Zen Headbutt
Up B: Surf
Down B: Amnesia > Acid
Final Smash: Dynamax
Farfetch’d becomes a Fighting type and trains itself in the
way of the sword, now evolving up into Sirfetch’d, its leek having grown into
its personal weapon and shield.
Standard B: Brutal Swing
Side B: Peck > Brick Break
Up B: Aerial Ace > Meteor Assault
Down B: False Swipe > Iron Defense
Final Smash: Dynamax
Weezing gained a pair of tall smokestacks on top of its
head, shaped like top hats, and gains the Fairy type for some reason. Something
to do with its gas being refined or something.
Standard B: Clear Smog
Side B: Sludge Bomb
Up B: Fairy Wind
Down B: Self-Destruct
Final Smash: Dynamax
Mr. Mime gained the Ice typing and became much more based on
a tap dancer, also evolving up into Mr. Rime, who is literally just Charlie
Chaplin as a Pokemon.
Standard B: Reflect
Side B: Ice Shard > Freeze-Dry
Up B: Mist
Down B: Mimic > Safeguard
Final Smash: Dynamax
Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres also gained new Galarian forms
with a general villainous vibe to them. Articuno became Psychic and looks very
much like a Machiavellian supervillain plotting to conquer the world. Zapdos
became a Fighting type and became more land-based, running around on much more
powerful legs. And Moltres became Dark-type, swooping around with wings made of
hellfire.
Standard B: Freezing Glare || Thunderous Kick || Sucker
Punch
Side B: Psycho Cut || Drill Peck || Fiery Wrath
Up B: Hurricane || Close Combat || Air Slash
Down B: Future Sight || Reversal || Payback
Final Smash: Triple Dynamax
Corsola gained the Ghost typing and became based on bleached
coral, where the animal has died due to pollution, leaving behind only the
calcium structures bleached a pure white. It can now evolve into Cursola.
Standard B: Night Shade
Side B: Hex > Power Gem
Up B: Ancient Power
Down B: Spite > Grudge
Final Smash: Dynamax
Zigzagoon and Linoone have gained the Dark typing as well as
white and black coloration reminiscent of the band Kiss. They can now evolve
into Obstagoon, a badger punk rocker very based on Kiss.
Standard B: Headbutt > Night Slash (III)
Side B: Pin Missile > Slash (II) > Lick (III)
Up B: Tackle > Take Down (II)
Down B: Lick > Obstruct (III)
Final Smash: Dynamax
Darumaka and Darmanitan now gain the Ice typing and are much
more based on snowmen and the yeti. Darmanitan’s zen mode is especially based
on a snowman, but its meditation has brought back out its Fire typing, making
it the current only Ice/Fire combo in the series.
Standard B: Ice Punch
Side B: Headbutt > Icicle Crash
Up B: Work Up > Blizzard
Down B: Powder Snow > Zen Mode
Final Smash: Dynamax
Yamask now carries around a hunk of rock with Nordic runes
carved into it instead of its death mask, and can now evolve into Runerigus, a
ghost that has fully taken over a large runestone.
Standard B: Hex > Shadow Claw
Side B: Brutal Swing
Up B: Haze > Phantom Force
Down B: Protect > Earthquake
Final Smash: Dynamax
And finally, Stunfisk has gained the Steel type and is now
fully based on a bear trap.
Standard B: Crunch
Side B: Mud Shot
Up B: Bounce
Down B: Stealth Rock
Final Smash: Dynamax
Regieleki and Regidrago aren’t really Regional forms or new
Evos, but they feel like they fit here, as they are additions to previously
existing groups. They are new Regis, just like their predecessors, except
instead of being made of solid materials like the others, Regieleki is a big
ball of living electricity, while Regidrago is like one of those snowglobe
things you see with a dragon’s head holding the globe in its mouth like it’s a
crystal ball, but turned upside down. You get it when you see it.
Standard B: Thunderbolt | Dragon Breath
Side B: Zap Cannon | Dragon Claw
Up B: Magnet Rise | Twister
Down B: Thunder Cage | Vice Grip
Final Smash: Power of the Giants
Most of the secondary stuff would mostly be what I listed
for their original forms, maybe just slightly updated to fit their new theming.
Thanks for reading! Next up, Zacian brandishes its sword!
