And now, let's begin the next generation, Generation VI. We start with the new core pair of games, Pokemon X and Y. The game is based in the Kalos region, based on France (or at least most of it. The southermost fourth got left out for some reason). Once again, you play as a young protagonist, Calem or Serena, setting out on a Pokemon journey across the region.

Rather than real "rivals" like you had before, your rivals come in the form of a small friend group who all start their journey with you, and are frequently in the same general vicinity. These include your opposite gender protagonist (who acts the most as a rival), Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno. Other notable allies include Professor Sycamore and his two young assistants, Sina and Dexio. In the post-game, you work heavily with Looker as he establishes a detective agency in Lumiose City and adopts a young homeless girl named Emma.

The Pokemon League of the game includes your standard gym leaders and elite four. You have Viola (Bug), Grant (Rock), Korrina (Fighting), Ramos (Grass), Clemont (Electric) accompanied by his sister Bonnie, Valerie (Fairy), Olympia (Psychic), and Wulfric (Ice) as gym leaders. The Elite Four include Siebold (Water), Malva (Fire, also a Team Flare member), Wikstrom (Steel), and Drasna (Dragon), with Diantha, an actress based heavily on Audrey Hepburn, as the Champion.

The villains of this generation are Team Flare, a group obsessed with fashion, I guess, who want to use an ancient superweapon to genocide everyone ugly? They don't have great motivations. Maybe it's because they're based on Nazis and getting into full-on Nazi motivations might be a bit much for a kids' game, so they did their best with what they had? I don't know. Their leader is Lysandre, alongside Malva as mentioned above, the scientist Xerosic, and four young women with Geordi La Forge visors named Aliana, Bryony, Celosia, and Mable. Also notable to the story is AZ, an ancient king who built the superweapon and was cursed to wander the Earth for centuries atoning for his actions.

Major locations in the region include Vaniville Town, Aquacorde Town, Santalune City, Lumiose City (based on Paris), Camphrier Town, Cyllage City, Ambrette Town, Geosenge Town (where the weapon is), Shalour City, Coumarine City, Laverre City, Dendemille Town, Anistar City, Couriway Town, Snowbelle City, and Kiloude City, along with such landmarks as Santalune Forest, the Tower of Mastery, Parfum Palace, Reflection Cave, the Kalos Power Plant, Azure Bay, the Sea Spirit's Den, the Poke Ball Factory, the Lost Hotel, Terminus Cave, Pokemon Village, and the Kalos Pokemon League (clearly based on the Cathedral of Notre Dame).
