Tetris Attack

TETRIS ATTACK

Tetris is alot like Super Mario Bros. 2 in a lot of ways. It started out as a puzzle game called Panel de Pon over in Japan, a puzzle game starring a cute little fairy named Lip (of the famous item Lip's Stick). When brought over to America, it was reskinned with Yoshi characters and named after another puzzle game it only bore slight resemblance to.

In this game, blocks rise up from the bottom, and you have to switch between horizontal pairs of blocks in order to line them up to get rid of them. In the versus mode, you could cause blocks to fall from the ceiling on top of your opponent's stack and add that one extra layer, and with a certain amount of points, you can throw an egg at your opponent for damage.

The game has a loose narrative of Bowser having put a spell on several of Yoshi's friends with Yoshi having to beat them at the game in order to free them, so each "friend" acts as a sort of boss with a partner attached to form a duo. These duos include Yoshi and a Baby Yoshi, Lakitu and a Goonie, a Bumpty and Dr. Freezegood, Poochy and a Grinder, a Flying Wiggler and an Egg-odil, Froggy and a Clawdaddy, Gargantua Blargg and a Fire Guy, a Lunge Fish and a Flopsy Fish, and Raphael Raven and a Shy Guy. After you've beaten them all, you fight Hookbill Koopa, Naval Piranha, Kamek, and Bowser each in succession as the main bad guys. I wouldn't necessarily count much of this toward any of them, unless say one of the characters already had a partial moveset and this would give them just the boost they need to become playable, like maybe Wiggler or someth--Ooohh!

Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:
Mario: hold and switch around plates, pump switches, play with dough
Yoshi: hatch from egg, play with dough, throw egg, play Tetris Attack, drop blocks
Peach: pump switches
Bowser: pump switches
Goomba
Piranha Plant
Boo
Blooper
Lakitu
Poochy
Grinder
Wiggler: fly, Egg-odil partner
Shy Guy: fire guy
Kamek: cast spells
Bowser: cast spells

Stages:
A stage based on the game, with switching platforms and falling eggs?
This probably helped inspire Cookie Land-type stages that came later, so . . . that?
A stage based on this game perhaps

Items:
Yoshi Eggs
Ball of Dough
Cookies
Panels
Blocks
