Character Sheet: All Alolan Forms

ALOLAN RATTATA/RATICATE/RAICHU/SANDSHREW/SANDSLASH/VULPIX/NINETALES/ DIGLETT/DUGTRIO/MEOWTH/PERSIAN/GEODUDE/GRAVELER/GOLEM/GRIMER/MUK/ EXEGGUTOR/MAROWAK

One of the newest gimmicks of Generation VII was the introduction of Regional forms, where Pokemon will have adapted in various ways to different environments in new regions, gaining new typings and changing up their stats here and there. Most of those in Alola came from Kanto lines. For our series, I am treating them as functionally Echo Fighters, just with new type equivalents for attacks where available.

First, we have Rattata and Raticate, who have now added a Dark typing alongside their normal, having become much fiercer by living in the cities of Alola and competing more for food. Raticate especially has a mob boss vibe.

Standard B: Bite > Crunch

Side B: Quick Attack

Up B: Pursuit

Down B: Tail Whip > Sucker Punch

Final Smash: Black Hole Eclipse

After that, we have Alolan Raichu, who has become a chill surfer bro from . . . eating pancakes? I assume they were laced with THC, but that’s just me. It also has Psychic powers now and can surf on its tail.

Standard B: Psychic

Side B: Thunder Punch

Up B: Quick Attack

Down B: Light Screen

Final Smash: Stoked Sparksurfer

After that, we have Sandshrew and Sandslash, who are now well-adapted to living in snowy environments, gaining an Ice type as well as a Steel type, their claws now resembling ice picks used by mountain climbers.

Standard B: Metal Claw > Icicle Spear

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Rapid Spin > Blizzard

Down B: Powder Snow > Snowscape

Final Smash: Subzero Slammer

Vulpix and Ninetales also gained the Ice typing, this time now being based on arctic foxes instead of red foxes. Ninetales also gained the Fairy type.

Standard B: Ice Shard > Aurora Beam

Side B: Quick Attack > Dazzling Gleam

Up B: Powder Snow > Blizzard

Down B: Icy Wind

Final Smash: Subzero Slammer

After that, we have Diglett and Dugtrio, who are now covered in Pele’s hair, a type of long metal strands found on Hawaii, created by volcanic activity, giving them a Steel typing and making them look like Hansen.

Standard B: Bulldoze > Earth Power

Side B: Metal Claw

Up B: Iron Head > Sandstorm

Down B: Dig

Final Smash: Corkscrew Crash

Next up, Meowth and Persian have also become Dark for much the same reasons as Rattata and Raticate, being based on feral alley cats, and for some reason, Persian swallowed a watermelon.

Standard B: Pay Day

Side B: Scratch > Night Slash

Up B: Assurance

Down B: Bite > Nasty Plot

Final Smash: Black Hole Eclipse

Next, we have Geodude, Graveler, and Golem, who now have magnetic materials making up their body, giving them Electric powers as well as their Rock powers. Golem even resembles a taser or a rail gun.

Standard B: Rock Throw > Thunder Punch (II)

Side B: Rollout > Bulldoze (III)

Up B: Smack Down > Heavy Slam (III)

Down B: Spark > Discharge (II)

Final Smash: Gigavolt Havoc

Grimer and Muk also have a new form, this time based more on an oil spill, as sometimes tends to happen, gaining a Dark typing probably due to the devastating environmental effects those typically cause.

Standard B: Poison Fang

Side B: Acid Spray > Poison Gas

Up B: Gunk Shot

Down B: Harden > Acid Armor

Final Smash: Black Hole Eclipse

Next up, we have Exeggutor, now with ridiculously long necks in order to more resemble the true height of palm trees, especially in sunny tropical areas. It’s also Dragon-type for some reason.

Standard B: Giga Drain

Side B: Dragon Hammer

Up B: Growth

Down B: Seed Bomb

Final Smash: Devastating Drake

And finally, we have Marowak, who gains both a Ghost and Fire typing, and becomes more of a fire dancer, commonly seen around Hawaiian luaus and such, using its bone as the flaming baton.

Standard B: Shadow Bone

Side B: Bonemerang

Up B: Flame Wheel

Down B: Perish Song

Final Smash: Never-Ending Nightmare

Most of the additional stuff would mirror their base forms, just updated to match their new theming.

And that’s about it! Next up, the Tapus awaken to protect their islands.

Character Sheet: All Gen VII Standalones

ORICORIO/WISHIWASHI/COMFEY/PYUKUMUKU/MINIOR/KOMALA/TURTONATOR/TOGEDEMARU/MIMIKYU/BRUXISH/DRAMPA/DHELMISE

And now, let cover all of the Gen VII standalones, of which there are quite a few this time around. First up, we have Oricorio, a bird Pokemon based on Galapagos finches (the birds from Charles Darwin’s research), with four different forms based partially on which island they’re found on, just like the real life finches, and can be changed using special nectars. For Oricorio, the forms are based on different style of dance performance, specifically flamenco, cheerleading, hula, and geisha dances.

Standard B: Air Cutter

Side B: Revelation Dance

Up B: Acrobatics

Down B: Feather Dance

Final Smash: Supersonic Skystrike

Next up, we have Wishiwashi, a fish Pokemon based on sardines and other Pokemon that move in giant schools, and like most fictional representations (i.e. Finding Nemo), form the shape of a much bigger fish together. I think we’ll have it revert to Solo Form once the damage goes above 100%.

Standard B: Brine

Side B: Aqua Tail

Up B: Uproar

Down B: Dive

Final Smash: Hydro Vortex

Next up, we have Comfey, which is a lei. Because Hawaii. There’s not much else to say. This is probably the most Hawaii of Hawaii-based mons in the dex.

Standard B: Draining Kiss

Side B: Charm

Up B: Petal Blizzard

Down B: Floral Healing

Final Smash: Twinkle Tackle

Next, we have Pyukumuku, based on a sea cucumber, complete with the whole expelling its entire intestines thing, except as a giant white hand instead of . . . that.

Standard B: Gastro Acid

Side B: Helping Hand

Up B: Recover

Side B: Purify

Final Smash: Hydro Vortex

After that, we have Minior, a Pokemon based on a meteorite, with a shelled form and a jewel-like inner form, that comes in multiple different colors. The shell will drop after 100% damage similar to Wishiwashi.

Standard B: Power Gem

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Cosmic Power

Down B: Explosion

Final Smash: Continental Crush

After that, we have Komala, based on a koala, who is perpetually asleep, much like their real life counterpart, who sleep for up to twenty-two hours a day.

Standard B: Wood Hammer

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Slam

Down B: Flail

Final Smash: Breakneck Blitz

From there, we have Turtonator, primarily based on the mata mata turtle, as well as bombs and land mines and other explosives of the type.

Standard B: Flamethrower

Side B: Shell Smash

Up B: Body Slam

Down B: Explosion

Final Smash: Inferno Overdrive

Next up, we have the “official” Pikachu clone of the generation, Togedemaru, based on a hedgehog, with steel spikes and armor covering it.

Standard B: Spark

Side B: Pin Missile

Up B: Magnet Rise

Down B: Spiky Shield

Final Smash: Gigavolt Havoc

And at long last, we come to the absolute standout star of the generation, Mimikyu. Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type eldritch creature that kills anyone that looks upon its true form, but it only wishes to be loved, so it wears a raggedy old Pikachu costume, in hopes of gaining the same popularity as the series mascot. I . . . think it worked.

Standard B: Shadow Claw

Side B: Charm

Up B: Shadow Sneak

Down B: Mimic

Final Smash: Let’s Snuggle Forever

Next up, we have Bruxish, a fish based on the humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish (or the reef triggerfish for short), as well as bruxism, the way its teeth are jutting out.

Standard B: Psyshock

Side B: Psychic Fangs

Up B: Aqua Jet

Down B: Aqua Tail

Final Smash: Shattered Psyche

After that is Drampa, a wise old man dragon Pokemon, loosely based on the Zhulong, a benevolent Chinese dragon with an old man’s face. It’s also our first Normal/Dragon combo.

Standard B: Dragon Breath

Side B: Body Slam

Up B: Twister

Down B: Safeguard

Final Smash: Mega Drampa

And finally, we have Dhelmise, the ghost of a sailor lost at sea who possessed the pieces of its sunken ship. Or rather, it possessed a patch of seaweed and is just holding the pieces of the ship, making it Ghost/Grass for some reason?

Standard B: Shadow Ball

Side B: Anchor Shot

Up B: Whirlpool

Down B: Giga Drain

Final Smash: Never-Ending Nightmare

Entrances would all be from Poke Balls, while Taunts would all be tied in with their general theming. Kirby hats would Oricorio’s beak and head feathers, Wishiwashi’s fins, Comfey as a lei, Pyukumuku’s spines, Minior’s shell, Komala’s ears, Turtonator’s shell, Togedemaru’s spikes, Mimikyu’s costume worn the same way Pikachu wore it that one time, Bruxish’s mouth, Drampa’s beard and hair, and Dhelmise’s wheel. Karts would mostly be the Poke Ball car, with an iconic move for each. Spirit battles would probably be Iki Town Plaza for Oricorio and Comfey, Aether Paradise for Togedemaru, Altar of the Sunne/Moone for Turtonator, S.S. Prime Treasure for Wishiwashi,  Pyukumuku, Bruxish, and Dhelmise, and Pasio Hotel for Komala, Mimikyu, and Drampa. Victory screens would be tied into their theming, and losing screens would be mostly them fainted. Color swaps would be mostly the main and shiny with other general colors, but Oricorio specifically would have the four forms and their shinies and Minior would have the different colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Gen VII introduced a whole new concept for Pokemon variation, introducing regional forms. First up, Alolan Rattata picks a fight!

Character Sheet: The Jangmo-o Line

JANGMO-O/HAKAMO-O/KOMMO-O

Next up, skipping over a whole long list of standalones, we come to the pseudo-legendaries of this generation, the Jangmo-o line, based on Komodo dragons as well as the Maori war dance, the Haka. They pull their name from a Hawaiian mythical reptile, but honestly Salandit and Salazzle bear more similarities with them, and are covered in armor based on various Polynesian cultures.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Headbutt > Outrage (III)

Side B: Dragon Tail > Dragon Claw (II)

Up B: Work Up > Dragon Dance (II)

Down B: Iron Defense > Clanging Scales (III)

Character Sheet: The Type Null Line

TYPE: NULL/SILVALLY

Maybe I should call it the Silvally line. Type: Null Line sounds weird. Anyway, now we come to Type: Null and Silvally, who I guess are considered Legendaries despite being heavily displaced from the Legendary section of the dex, but I guess that's allowed. They are chimeras, created by the Aether Foundation as an attempt to create their own Arceus, before it was freed and stolen by Gladion.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Crush Claw > Elemental Fang (switching between)

Side B: Double Hit > Multi-Attack

Up B: Aerial Ace

Character Sheet: The Sandygast Line

SANDYGAST/PALOSSAND

Next up, we have Sandygast and Palossand, based primarily on sandcastles, but with an added Ghost-themed aspect of pulling people in and consuming their souls, as stated by the Pokedex. It is one of the more famous messed-up Pokedex entries out there.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Sand Attack > Shadowball

Side B: Bulldoze

Up B: Hypnosis > Sandstorm

Down B: Sand Tomb

Final Smash: Tectonic Rage

Character Sheet: The Wimpod Line

WIMPOD/GOLISOPOD

Next up, let's cover Wimpod and Golisopod, a line of Pokemon based on isopods and other similar aquatic arthropods. They are famous for being Guzma's main Pokemon of choice, and for Wimpod having the gimmick of being a coward that switches out once its HP dips lower than half, with Golisopod representing its character arc becoming brave and strong. Wimpod is another with a distinctly limited natural movepool, but lucky for us, it seems to be a different limited movepool in the three generations it's been out, so . . . I think we can cheese it.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Sand Attack > First Impression

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Struggle Bug > Aqua Jet

Down B: Defense Curl > Iron Defense

Final Smash: Savage Spin-Out > Mega Golisopod

Entrance: Poke Ball

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, Sandygast has a day at the beach!

Friday, March 27, 2026

Character Sheet: Oranguru and Passimian

ORANGURU/PASSIMIAN

Next up, we have a counterpart pair, similar to others like Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan and such in the past, except these two seem to be more opposites to each other. Oranguru is a Normal/Psychic type orangutan based on wise old shamans or gurus and the like, while Passimian is a Fighting type baboon or lemur and also a rugby player, with their contrast being their mental vs. physical focuses.

Here's the movesets I came up with:

Up B: Psychic | Take Down

Down B: Future Sight | Reversal

Up B: Rapid Spin > Leaf Storm (III)

Wednesday, March 25, 2026

Character Sheet: The Stufful Line

STUFFUL/BEWEAR

Next up, we come to Stufful and Bewear, a line based primarily on red pandas, with all the associated cute cuddliness involved, but with an additional ridiculous strength that they don't fully realize themselves, doing massive damage entirely by accident. Side B: Strength

Up B: Take Down > Thrash

Down B: Payback > Bind

Final Smash: All-Out Pummeling

Character Sheet: The Salandit Line

SALANDIT/SALAZZLE

Next up, let's cover Salandit and Salazzle, our first ever combo Fire/Poison types, based on both fire salamanders of myth as well as the mo'o of Hawaiian myth (the thing the Jangmo-o line takes their name from). They also have the vibe of artistic gecko designs you often see connected to Hawaii and other Pacific Islands. They have a distinct gender thing going on, where only the females can evolve into Salazzle, mostly tied in with the mo'o myth.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ember > Fire Lash

Side B: Poison Fang

Up B: Smog

Down B: Sweet Scent > Venoshock

Final Smash: Acid Downpour

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Skittering around like lizards would, doing some sexy poses for Salazzle specifically, things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their heads as hats

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Poison Fang

Spirit Battle: On Pasio Hotel

Victory Screen: A Salazzle surrounded by Salandits, as a purplish haze fills the screen and it looks at the player seductively.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Stufful doesn't know its own strength!

Monday, March 23, 2026

Character Sheet: The Morelull Line

MORELULL/SHIINOTIC

Next up, we have Morelull and Shiinotic, a line of Grass/Fairy types based on bioluminescent mushrooms in general, and more specifically on the types of glowing mushrooms you might find in a fairy tale, and those that make up fairy rings and such. They're relatively forgotten in the grand scheme of things, but I think they're cool.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Mega Drain > Giga Drain

Side B: Confuse Ray > Moonblast

Saturday, March 21, 2026

Character Sheet: The Fomantis Line

FOMANTIS/LURANTIS

Next up, we have Fomantis and Lurantis, a line based on orchid mantises and other flowered mantises, those mantis species that look just like plants. In this version, however, it's flipped, with them being actually plants that just look like mantises instead.

Standard B: Razor Leaf > Night Slash

Side B: X-Scissor

Character Sheet: The Crabrawler Line

CRABRAWLER/CRABOMINABLE

Next up, we have Crabrawler and Crabominable, a line primarily based on the coconut crab, though mixed with the Yeti in its later evolution, probably to evoke the yeti crab. They're cool. Not a big fan of Crabominable's design, but Crabrawler is neat.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Crabhammer > Ice Hammer

Side B: Vice Grip

Up B: Slam

Down B: Reversal > Avalanche

Next up, we have the regional bugs of the generation, this time being Grubbin, Charjabug, and Vikavolt, based primarily on the life cycle of a stag beetle, mixed with electrical components with Charjabug being a battery and Vikavolt being an electric clamp. Also Grubbin always reminded me of those parasite things from an early season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. YUNGOOS/GUMSHOOS

Next up, we have the regional critters of the generation, this time based on mongooses, mixed a bit with gumshoe detectives, like Columbo and such. Any and all resemblance to American political figures, real or imaginary, is purely coincidental.

Character Sheet: The Pikipek Line

PIKIPEK/TRUMBEAK/TOUCANNON

Next up, we come to our regional bird line, Pikipek, Trumbeak, and Toucannon. Pikipek and Trumbeak are both mostly based on woodpeckers, but Toucannon, in true Hawaiian-esque fashion, is based on a toucan, which is closely related to woodpeckers. Strangely, Toucannon has a whole thing about building fire and heat in its beak, but it is not a Fire type.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Peck > Drill Peck (II) > Beak Blast (III)

Side B: Supersonic > Hyper Voice (III)

Up B: Fly

Down B: Rock Smash > Roost (II)

Final Smash: Supersonic Skystrike

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Doing the standard woodpecker series of taps, preening their feathers, things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their beaks

Kart: Flying

Special Move: Drill Peck

Spirit Battle: On Iki Town Plaza

Victory Screen: Letting out a screech and flying away.

Losing Screen: Fainted.

Color Swap: Main, shiny, other general colors.

Character Sheet: The Popplio Line

POPPLIO/BRIONNE/PRIMARINA

Next up, we have our Water starters for the generation, Popplio, Brionne, and Primarina. They are based on sea lions, specifically the kind you'd see performing in circuses, and evolve up into a mermaid as Primarina. That's pretty much all there is to say, they're kinda the forgotten middle child of the starters this time around, getting nowhere near the attention Decidueye and Incineroar got from Game Freak and Nintendo.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Water Gun > Bubble Beam (II)

Side B: Aqua Jet > Moonblast (III)

Up B: Sing > Sparkling Aria (III)

Down B: Icy Wind > Misty Terrain (II)

Final Smash: Hydro Vortex > Oceanic Operetta (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Balancing a ball on its nose, singing, combing out its hair, things like that.

Kirby Hat: The nose and the later hair.

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Sparkling Aria

Spirit Battle: On S.S. Prime Treasure

Victory Screen: Reaching a crescendo and then bowing to the audience.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Pikipek taps into the battle!

Character Sheet: The Litten Line

LITTEN/TORRACAT/INCINEROAR

Next up, let's cover the Fire starters of Gen VII: Litten, Torracat, and Incineroar. They are based primarily on tigers, but also on Tiger Mask, the fictional wrestler from Japanese pop culture who started out as a heel wrestler but worked his way up to becoming a face. You can see reference to him in a lot of Japanese media, and this is no exception. Incineroar is also featured as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Ember > Flamethrower (II) > Darkest Lariat (III)

Side B: Fury Swipes > Fire Fang (II)

Up B: Double Kick > Cross Chop (III)

Down B: Lick > Revenge (III)

Final Smash: Inferno Overdrive > Malicious Moonsault (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Several poses used by heel wrestlers in professional wrestling, also some cat things like the "lick paw, rub face" thing.

Kirby Hat: Their ears and stripes

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Darkest Lariat

Spirit Battle: On Pasio Hotel

Victory Screen: A wrestling victory pose

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors. The "Big the Cat" one is a must.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Popplio puts on a performance!

Character Sheet: The Rowlet Line

ROWLET/DARTRIX/DECIDUEYE

And now, let's begin our Gen VII Pokedex entries with our grass starters of the generation: Rowlet, Dartrix, and Decidueye. They are primarily based on owls, starting with barn owls, but then building up to the Hawaiian Pueo owl as well as the extinct Giant Hawaiian stilt-owl, both adding to its secondary Ghost-typing in the final stage. The Pokemon also pulls from archers like Robin Hood, using its feathers as arrows.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Razor Leaf > Leaf Storm (III)

Side B: Peck > Pluck (II) > Leaf Blade (III)

Up B: Shadow Sneak

Down B: Leafage > Synthesis (II)

Final Smash: Bloom Doom > Sinister Arrow Raid (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Preening its feathers, knocking an arrow, posing like a mysterious archer, things like that.

Kirby Hat: The feather bowtie up to hood each version wears.

Kart: The PokeBall car

Special Move: Leaf Storm

Spirit Battle: On Iki Town Plaza

Victory Screen: Putting its arrow away and leaping off into the trees.

Losing Screen: Fainted.

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Litten enters the ring!

Character Sheet: MoBee IV

MOBEE IV

And now, with Gen VII, let's welcome four more newcomers to the non-dex roster of Pokemon:

1. Go Trainer

2. Tim Goodman

3. Detective Pikachu

4. MoBee IV

Pokemon Quest is a funny little mobile game with just enough unique mechanics to make a player character a possible option, so long as we have an actual distinct character we could use. And hey, look at that, we have MoBee, a little flying robot that tutors you and helps guide your Pokemon when you do it. Just the bot for the job.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Send/Scatter

MoBee will send out a Pokexel, which will wander around autonomously, though tapping it again will cause it to return back to MoBee or switch out.

Side B: Attack

This will cause the autonomous Pokexel to perform its base attack against an opponent.

Up B: MoBee Lift

MoBee will grab their Pokexel and fly upward.

Down B: Cook

MoBee will prepare food for their Pokexel, which will then give it a power boost.

Final Smash: Pokexel Horde

A horde of the cube versions of Pokemon from the game will swarm the screen.

Entrance: MoBee will take off, with the sound of Quest's loading screen.

Taunts: Up, MoBee will fly around and play with the Pokexel. Side, MoBee will hold up a Power Stone, Down, MoBee will cook for a second.

Kirby Hat: Becoming a boxy shape.

Kart: Just flying.

Special Move: Send/Scatter

Spirit Battle: On Pasio Hotel

Victory Screen: The victory animation of the game, with MoBee mixed in.

Losing Screen: Breaking down and crash-landing.

Color Swaps: Different PokeBall colors.

Thanks for reading! Now, let's begin the Gen VII dex roster. First up, Rowlet takes aim!

Thursday, March 5, 2026

Character Sheet: Detective Pikachu

DETECTIVE PIKACHU

And now, with Gen VII, let's welcome four more newcomers to the non-dex roster of Pokemon:

1. Go Trainer

2. Tim Goodman

3. Detective Pikachu

4. MoBee IV

Spoilers ahead, I suppose. Next, we'll be covering Detective Pikachu, the main character of the Detective Pikachu games and movie, the companion Pokemon of missing detective Harry Goodman, who can mysteriously communicate with Harry's son Tim. If you don't know, in both the games and movie continuity, you come to discover that Harry's mind was preserved inside of Pikachu's by Mewtwo in order to preserve his life, though in the games, its only his mind while his body is comatose, but in the movies, the two were merged body and mind through convoluted . . . stuff. I figure you could have a menu on the character select screen that would let you use Kaiji Tang or Ryan Reynolds' voice in the English version.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Clue Find

Same as Tim

Side B: Pokemon Ally

He will use the Pokemon allies from the second game for this.

Up B: Gimme a Boost

This is the biggest reason I considered Tim and Pikachu as a duo rather than echoes, as it would feature Tim giving Pikachu a boost like he does in the games to reach higher areas.

Down B: R

Same as Tim.

Final Smash: Exposing the Thief

Or maybe the Thunderbolt he unleashes in the climaxes of both games.

Entrance: He'll take a sip of coffee, enjoy it for a second, then get into action.

Taunts: Up, he'll adjust his cap for a second. Side, he'll enjoy a cup of coffee. Down, he'll look around for cues.

Kirby Hat: His detective cap

Kart: A taxicab

Special Move: Clue Find

Spirit Battle: On S.S. Prime Treasure, with Tim

Victory Screen: Posing and saying "Mystery solved!"

Losing Screen: The fainting motion he makes when memories come back to him.

Color Swaps: Similar colors to Pikachu, but with the detective cap and cloak.

Thanks for reading! Next up, MoBee IV undertakes a quest!

Character Sheet: Tim Goodman

TIM GOODMAN

And now, with Gen VII, let's welcome four more newcomers to the non-dex roster of Pokemon:

1. Go Trainer

2. Tim Goodman

3. Detective Pikachu

4. MoBee IV

Next up, let's cover Tim and Detective Pikachu, the protagonists of the Detective Pikachu games. I went back and forth on whether they should be a tag team partnerships, or echoes, or what, but I ultimately decided to go with a semi-echo situation, differentiated by their respective physical differences. Either way, Tim is the human protagonist of Detective Pikachu, the son of Pikachu's previous owner Harry Goodman, who comes to Ryme City to find his father after he goes missing. Finding he can somehow speak to his father's Pikachu, the two team up to become amateur detectives and figure out the mystery.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Clue Find

He will be able to pinpoint a hidden item anywhere he is standing on stage and collect it, giving himself a boost.

Side B: Human Ally

Paired with Pikachu using the Pokemon allies of Detective Pikachu 2, Tim will call in one of his human allies, including Emilia, Rachel, Lucy, and Brad McMaster who will attack in some way.

Up B: Lift

While Pikachu generally gets a lift up from Tim personally, in-game Tim has to run around to a lift activated by Pikachu. This move will reflect that.

Down B: R

Tim will hit his opponent with R, making them lose control for a minute.

Final Smash: Exposing the Thief

Tim will put together all of his clues, pointing out one of his opponents as the villain, and getting them arrested and taken away.

Entrance: He'll come on, flipping through his father's journal, and asking what this place has to do with his disappearance.

Taunts: Up, he'll rub the back of his head bashfully. Side, he'll rub his chin, deep in thought. Down, he'll crouch to investigate a footprint.

Kirby Hat: His game hair

Kart: A taxicab

Special Move: Clue Find

Spirit Battle: On S.S. Prime Treasure

Victory Screen: He and Detective Pikachu will high-five.

Losing Screen: Falling to his knees as the culprit makes their getaway.

Color Swaps: Four for the game version, with his main outfits of both games, and two more representing Emilia and Rachel. Four for the Justice Smith version, with his different outfits from the movie.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Detective Pikachu solves the case!

Character Sheet: Go Trainer

GO TRAINER

And now, with Gen VII, let's welcome four more newcomers to the non-dex roster of Pokemon:

1. Go Trainer

2. Tim Goodman

3. Detective Pikachu

4. MoBee IV

First up, we have our Go Trainer, or Chase/Elaine, representing the Pokemon Go mechanics as they appear across Pokemon Go and the Pokemon Let's Go games, with a much smaller emphasis on Pokemon battling, and much more on catching.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Poke Ball

The player tosses a Poke Ball that traps the opponent inside, much like the Pokemon Trainer's similar move, but requires you to hold the B button to keep them trapped longer.

Side B: Charged Attack

Companion Pikachu/Eevee is sent forward and performs their standard charged attack at the opponent.

Up B: Quick Attack

Companion Pikachu/Eevee performs their quick attack upward into the air, taking the player with them.

Down B: Candy

The player takes some candy from the Go games in order to boost their own stats.

Final Smash: Poke Stop

A horde of random civilians, all staring at their phones, converge on the stage, running around and throwing Poke Balls wherever they can, trapping the players inside and carrying them off the stage.

Entrance: A Poke Stop marker appears and the player enters while staring at their phone.

Taunts: Up, the player messes around with their companion resting on their head. Side, the player waves around a team flag. Down, the player gets a buzz and checks their phone.

Kirby Hat: Chase's hat

Kart: A regular real world car

Special Move: Candy

Spirit Battle: On Go Stadium

Victory Screen: The player cheering as the catch success screen from the game pops up beside them.

Losing Screen: The player tries tapping to catch a Diglett but the Diglett vanishes too quickly.

Color Swaps: Chase and Elaine's main costumes, plus Team Mystic, Instinct, and Valor outfits.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Tim Goodman searches for clues!

Gen VII Miscellaneous Games

GEN VII MISCELLANEOUS GAMES

And now, let's cover all of the smaller games I skipped while running through this generation. First, we have Pokemon Playhouse, a sorta kinda successor to the Hey You, Pikachu! type games in app form, where kids can watch Pokemon run around and play while interacting with them here and there. Then Pokken Tournament got a re-release for the Switch, called Pokken Tournament DX. Pikachu Talk was a feature for smart speakers like Google Home and Amazon Alexa that let you talk to Pikachu and give it commands. TCG players got Pokemon TCG Card Dex, an app that let them manage their card collections. Pokemon Pass was an app that let you scan QR codes at Pokemon stores and such that let you earn rewards points. And finally Pokemon Wave Hello was an app that let you wave at and pet a Pokemon, and it would respond. Basically, this was very much the era of app production.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate came out during this era, bringing back all the playable characters from Pokemon we'd seen before and most of the stages. Incineroar was also added as Gen VIII's rep, with a few new Poke Ball mons as well. Sadly no new stages were included.

And that's it! Here's what we've got so far:

Characters:

Pokemon Masters EX

POKEMON MASTERS EX

Next up, we have Pokemon Masters EX. Pokemon Master Sex is basically a . . . "socializing" sim (I'd call it a dating sim, but not really), that lets you talk to and interact with the human characters from all throughout the Pokemon series, recruiting them to your team and then fighting three-on-three battles with them, each one having a Pokemon they're paired up with, normally their most iconic partner. The whole thing takes place on an island called Pasio, where everyone has come together for a tournament.

You play as Scottie or Bettie, two new player characters, and from there you can recruit practically everyone you can imagine. They include: Red, Leaf, Chase, Elaine, Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Erika, Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, Lance, Blue, Giovanni, Professor Oak, Ethan, Lyra, Kris, Silver, Falkner, Bugsy, Whitney, Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce, Clair, Janine, Will, Karen, Eusine, Archer, Ariana, Proton, Petrel, Brendan, May, Wally, Roxanne, Brawly, Flannery, Norman, Winona, Tate, Liza, Wallace, Sidney, Phoebe, Glacia, Drake, Steven, Noland, Lucy, Greta, Zinnia, Lisia, Maxie, Courtney, Archie, Lucas, Dawn, Barry, Roark, Gardenia, Maylene, Crasher Wake, Fantina, Candice, Volkner, Aaron, Bertha, Flint, Lucian, Cynthia, Thorton, Dahlia, Darach, Palmer, Argenta, Cheryl, Marley, Riley, Cyrus, Rei, Akari, Adaman, Arezu, Mai, Irida, Volo, Hilbert, Hilda, Cheren, Bianca, Nate, Rosa, Hugh, Cilan, Chili, Cress, Lenora, Burgh, Elesa, Clay, Skyla, Bricen, Iris, Roxie, Marlon, Shauntal, Grimsley, Caitlin, Alder, Ingo, Emmet, Benga, N, Ghetsis, Colress, Calem, Serena, Tierno, Shauna, Trevor, Sina, Dexio, Viola, Grant, Korrina, Ramos, Clemont, Valerie, Olympia, Wulfric, Malva, Siebold, Wikstrom, Drasna, Diantha, Evelyn, Nita, Dana, Morgan, Looker, Emma, Lysandre, Professor Sycamore, Elio, Selene, Hau, Lillie, Gladion, Ilima, Lana, Kiawe, Mallow, Sophocles, Mina, Acerola, Hala, Olivia, Nanu, Hapu, Kahili, Molayne, Anabel, Ryuki, Lusamine, Plumeria, Guzma, Kukui, Samson Oak, Victor, Gloria, Hop, Marnie, Bede, Milo, Nessa, Kabu, Bea, Allister, Gordy, Melony, Piers, Raihan, Klara, Avery, Leon, Ball Guy, Rose, Oleana, Sonia, Juliana, Florian, Nemona, Penny, Arven, Iono, Grusha, Larry, Brassius, Rika, Poppy, Hassel, Geeta, Clavell, Jacq, Miriam, Giacomo, Eri, Mela, Atticus, Ortega, Lacey, Carmine, Kieran, Perrin, Ash, Jesse, and James, with additional new characters in Lear, Rachel, Sawyer, Paulo, and Tina. Pokemon Rumble Rush

POKEMON RUMBLE RUSH

And now for the most recent entry in the Pokemon Rumble series, this one a mobile game app with the same basic mechanics you might be used to in a Rumble game, playing as little toy versions of Pokemon that run around and fight other Pokemon mostly by bumping into them with a single basic attack each, with you able to catch and recruit new Pokemon after defeating them. That's pretty much it.

Here's everything we've got so far:

Characters:

All new Pokemon

Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Eevee!

POKEMON: LET'S GO, PIKACHU AND EEVEE!

Next up, we have Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, a sort of tie-in console game with Pokemon Go!, that let's you travel around the world of Kanto in a sort of quasi-remake of the Gen I games with Go mechanics. Most of the core cast of the original games reappear, with the same gym leaders, Elite Four, and Professor Oak in the same roles, and Red and Blue appearing as mentors at certain points in the game. As for your playable characters, you now play as Chase or Elaine, two new kids going on their adventures, with a new rival in Trace, who basically does everything Blue does in the original, including becoming the champion before you. Leaf's original cut Red and Blue design also appears in the game, but is strangely called Green. I . . . don't know if they were trying to make her a different character or not. I'm still going to treat her as Leaf, personally. And as the name might imply, your starters are Pikachu and Eevee, mirroring Red and Blue's starters from Pokemon Yellow.

Here's everything we've got so far:

Pokemon Quest

POKEMON QUEST

Next up, we have Pokemon Quest, another mobile game that has more of an adventure format, with all the Pokemon represented in blocky "Minecraft-esque" form. You start out with a starter that mostly wanders on its own, attacking any NPC it encounters, while you can press a button for it to perform an attack. You can recruit more Pokemon after defeating them, and you can perform other actions to build up your Pokemon, like cooking meals for it. You can also set up a home base and decorate it with items you can collect. The whole game takes place on Tumblecube Island.

Here's what we've got so far:

Detective Pikachu

DETECTIVE PIKACHU

Now we come to a really weird entry in the Pokemon series (made even weirder by the fact the Pokemon company felt this was the one to finally break into live action adaptation with, of all things). Detective Pikachu is a point-and-click detective adventure, starring a talking Pikachu and his partner Tim Goodman, as they look for clues surrounding the disappearance of Tim's father Harry.

While we have the same basic setup as the movie, the game is ultimately very much not the movie, with the plots going in completely different directions (though the sequel does ultimately end in the same place, but we'll get there). Tim and Detective Pikachu are our main characters, Pikachu unable to use any normal Pokemon moves, but instead uses his inherent detective skills to look for clues, Tim talking to humans and Pikachu talking to Pokemon.

Other major characters in the story include young reporter Emilia Christie (renamed Lucy in the movie, for some reason), her camerawoman Meiko Okamoto, their producer Roger Clifford, their boss Ethan Graham, Mike Baker, Frank Holiday, Amanda Blackstone, and Brad McMaster of the Ryme City police department, and Pablo Millan who runs a cafe. They investigate a drug ring distributing R, a drug that causes Pokemon to go berserk. In the end, Roger Clifford is revealed as the culprit.

The game takes place in Ryme City, a place where humans and Pokemon live together without either being owned or trained by either. Notable locations in the game include Tahnti Park, Litwick Cave, Pokemon Comprehensive Laboratory, Cappucci Island, Fine Park, GNN Station, Ryme Wharf, the S.S. Prime Treasure, and the Pokemon Carnival.

That's about all we need. Here's what we've got so far:

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

POKEMON ULTRA SUN AND ULTRA MOON

After Gen VI got no third game at all, Gen VII decided to follow Gen V's lead and have a duo of games as the third. This one is not a sequel, the way Black 2 and White 2 were, but the standard expanded remake just like Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and so on.

The big changes this time include a more expanded look at the Ultra Dimension, going from basically a limited cave in the first two games to a full city in this version, with the Ultra Recon Squad appearing as supporting characters, agents from the Ultra Dimension who cam through the rifts to try and fix the problem. Ultra Sun has Dulce and Zossie, and Ultra Moon has Phyco and Soliera. We also expand a bit more on the story of Lusamine and her family, changing her motivation from simply power-hunger to a whole story about her husband Mohn getting lost in a rift and her becoming obsessed with trying to find him. We later find him with no memories living on a remote island.

We also have a whole bonus post-game story starring Team Rainbow Rocket, which brings together Giovanni, Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, and Lysandre, the villains of previous games (technically these are alternate universe versions), and has you fight them all. Red and Blue also return briefly in the story. Also I forgot to mention, the post-game story of the first two featured Anabel, the old Gen III Frontier Brain, as the head of Looker's agency.

We also have a slight change in the Elite Four, as Molayne ends up as a member this time instead of Hala. We also meet Ryuki, a Dragon trainer from another region, who challenges you a few times, officially making this the first time all eighteen types have had a specialist in one game, with Sina and Dexio being Ice and Psychic type trainers.
