Character Sheet: All Alolan Forms

ALOLAN RATTATA/RATICATE/RAICHU/SANDSHREW/SANDSLASH/VULPIX/NINETALES/ DIGLETT/DUGTRIO/MEOWTH/PERSIAN/GEODUDE/GRAVELER/GOLEM/GRIMER/MUK/ EXEGGUTOR/MAROWAK

One of the newest gimmicks of Generation VII was the introduction of Regional forms, where Pokemon will have adapted in various ways to different environments in new regions, gaining new typings and changing up their stats here and there. Most of those in Alola came from Kanto lines. For our series, I am treating them as functionally Echo Fighters, just with new type equivalents for attacks where available.

First, we have Rattata and Raticate, who have now added a Dark typing alongside their normal, having become much fiercer by living in the cities of Alola and competing more for food. Raticate especially has a mob boss vibe.

Standard B: Bite > Crunch

Side B: Quick Attack

Up B: Pursuit

Down B: Tail Whip > Sucker Punch

Final Smash: Black Hole Eclipse

After that, we have Alolan Raichu, who has become a chill surfer bro from . . . eating pancakes? I assume they were laced with THC, but that’s just me. It also has Psychic powers now and can surf on its tail.

Standard B: Psychic

Side B: Thunder Punch

Up B: Quick Attack

Down B: Light Screen

Final Smash: Stoked Sparksurfer

After that, we have Sandshrew and Sandslash, who are now well-adapted to living in snowy environments, gaining an Ice type as well as a Steel type, their claws now resembling ice picks used by mountain climbers.

Standard B: Metal Claw > Icicle Spear

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Rapid Spin > Blizzard

Down B: Powder Snow > Snowscape

Final Smash: Subzero Slammer

Vulpix and Ninetales also gained the Ice typing, this time now being based on arctic foxes instead of red foxes. Ninetales also gained the Fairy type.

Standard B: Ice Shard > Aurora Beam

Side B: Quick Attack > Dazzling Gleam

Up B: Powder Snow > Blizzard

Down B: Icy Wind

Final Smash: Subzero Slammer

After that, we have Diglett and Dugtrio, who are now covered in Pele’s hair, a type of long metal strands found on Hawaii, created by volcanic activity, giving them a Steel typing and making them look like Hansen.

Standard B: Bulldoze > Earth Power

Side B: Metal Claw

Up B: Iron Head > Sandstorm

Down B: Dig

Final Smash: Corkscrew Crash

Next up, Meowth and Persian have also become Dark for much the same reasons as Rattata and Raticate, being based on feral alley cats, and for some reason, Persian swallowed a watermelon.

Standard B: Pay Day

Side B: Scratch > Night Slash

Up B: Assurance

Down B: Bite > Nasty Plot

Final Smash: Black Hole Eclipse

Next, we have Geodude, Graveler, and Golem, who now have magnetic materials making up their body, giving them Electric powers as well as their Rock powers. Golem even resembles a taser or a rail gun.

Standard B: Rock Throw > Thunder Punch (II)

Side B: Rollout > Bulldoze (III)

Up B: Smack Down > Heavy Slam (III)

Down B: Spark > Discharge (II)

Final Smash: Gigavolt Havoc

Grimer and Muk also have a new form, this time based more on an oil spill, as sometimes tends to happen, gaining a Dark typing probably due to the devastating environmental effects those typically cause.

Standard B: Poison Fang

Side B: Acid Spray > Poison Gas

Up B: Gunk Shot

Down B: Harden > Acid Armor

Final Smash: Black Hole Eclipse

Next up, we have Exeggutor, now with ridiculously long necks in order to more resemble the true height of palm trees, especially in sunny tropical areas. It’s also Dragon-type for some reason.

Standard B: Giga Drain

Side B: Dragon Hammer

Up B: Growth

Down B: Seed Bomb

Final Smash: Devastating Drake

And finally, we have Marowak, who gains both a Ghost and Fire typing, and becomes more of a fire dancer, commonly seen around Hawaiian luaus and such, using its bone as the flaming baton.

Standard B: Shadow Bone

Side B: Bonemerang

Up B: Flame Wheel

Down B: Perish Song

Final Smash: Never-Ending Nightmare

Most of the additional stuff would mirror their base forms, just updated to match their new theming.

And that’s about it! Next up, the Tapus awaken to protect their islands.

Character Sheet: All Gen VII Standalones

ORICORIO/WISHIWASHI/COMFEY/PYUKUMUKU/MINIOR/KOMALA/TURTONATOR/TOGEDEMARU/MIMIKYU/BRUXISH/DRAMPA/DHELMISE

And now, let cover all of the Gen VII standalones, of which there are quite a few this time around. First up, we have Oricorio, a bird Pokemon based on Galapagos finches (the birds from Charles Darwin’s research), with four different forms based partially on which island they’re found on, just like the real life finches, and can be changed using special nectars. For Oricorio, the forms are based on different style of dance performance, specifically flamenco, cheerleading, hula, and geisha dances.

Standard B: Air Cutter

Side B: Revelation Dance

Up B: Acrobatics

Down B: Feather Dance

Final Smash: Supersonic Skystrike

Next up, we have Wishiwashi, a fish Pokemon based on sardines and other Pokemon that move in giant schools, and like most fictional representations (i.e. Finding Nemo), form the shape of a much bigger fish together. I think we’ll have it revert to Solo Form once the damage goes above 100%.

Standard B: Brine

Side B: Aqua Tail

Up B: Uproar

Down B: Dive

Final Smash: Hydro Vortex

Next up, we have Comfey, which is a lei. Because Hawaii. There’s not much else to say. This is probably the most Hawaii of Hawaii-based mons in the dex.

Standard B: Draining Kiss

Side B: Charm

Up B: Petal Blizzard

Down B: Floral Healing

Final Smash: Twinkle Tackle

Next, we have Pyukumuku, based on a sea cucumber, complete with the whole expelling its entire intestines thing, except as a giant white hand instead of . . . that.

Standard B: Gastro Acid

Side B: Helping Hand

Up B: Recover

Side B: Purify

Final Smash: Hydro Vortex

After that, we have Minior, a Pokemon based on a meteorite, with a shelled form and a jewel-like inner form, that comes in multiple different colors. The shell will drop after 100% damage similar to Wishiwashi.

Standard B: Power Gem

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Cosmic Power

Down B: Explosion

Final Smash: Continental Crush

After that, we have Komala, based on a koala, who is perpetually asleep, much like their real life counterpart, who sleep for up to twenty-two hours a day.

Standard B: Wood Hammer

Side B: Rollout

Up B: Slam

Down B: Flail

Final Smash: Breakneck Blitz

From there, we have Turtonator, primarily based on the mata mata turtle, as well as bombs and land mines and other explosives of the type.

Standard B: Flamethrower

Side B: Shell Smash

Up B: Body Slam

Down B: Explosion

Final Smash: Inferno Overdrive

Next up, we have the “official” Pikachu clone of the generation, Togedemaru, based on a hedgehog, with steel spikes and armor covering it.

Standard B: Spark

Side B: Pin Missile

Up B: Magnet Rise

Down B: Spiky Shield

Final Smash: Gigavolt Havoc

And at long last, we come to the absolute standout star of the generation, Mimikyu. Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type eldritch creature that kills anyone that looks upon its true form, but it only wishes to be loved, so it wears a raggedy old Pikachu costume, in hopes of gaining the same popularity as the series mascot. I . . . think it worked.

Standard B: Shadow Claw

Side B: Charm

Up B: Shadow Sneak

Down B: Mimic

Final Smash: Let’s Snuggle Forever

Next up, we have Bruxish, a fish based on the humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish (or the reef triggerfish for short), as well as bruxism, the way its teeth are jutting out.

Standard B: Psyshock

Side B: Psychic Fangs

Up B: Aqua Jet

Down B: Aqua Tail

Final Smash: Shattered Psyche

After that is Drampa, a wise old man dragon Pokemon, loosely based on the Zhulong, a benevolent Chinese dragon with an old man’s face. It’s also our first Normal/Dragon combo.

Standard B: Dragon Breath

Side B: Body Slam

Up B: Twister

Down B: Safeguard

Final Smash: Mega Drampa

And finally, we have Dhelmise, the ghost of a sailor lost at sea who possessed the pieces of its sunken ship. Or rather, it possessed a patch of seaweed and is just holding the pieces of the ship, making it Ghost/Grass for some reason?

Standard B: Shadow Ball

Side B: Anchor Shot

Up B: Whirlpool

Down B: Giga Drain

Final Smash: Never-Ending Nightmare

Entrances would all be from Poke Balls, while Taunts would all be tied in with their general theming. Kirby hats would Oricorio’s beak and head feathers, Wishiwashi’s fins, Comfey as a lei, Pyukumuku’s spines, Minior’s shell, Komala’s ears, Turtonator’s shell, Togedemaru’s spikes, Mimikyu’s costume worn the same way Pikachu wore it that one time, Bruxish’s mouth, Drampa’s beard and hair, and Dhelmise’s wheel. Karts would mostly be the Poke Ball car, with an iconic move for each. Spirit battles would probably be Iki Town Plaza for Oricorio and Comfey, Aether Paradise for Togedemaru, Altar of the Sunne/Moone for Turtonator, S.S. Prime Treasure for Wishiwashi,  Pyukumuku, Bruxish, and Dhelmise, and Pasio Hotel for Komala, Mimikyu, and Drampa. Victory screens would be tied into their theming, and losing screens would be mostly them fainted. Color swaps would be mostly the main and shiny with other general colors, but Oricorio specifically would have the four forms and their shinies and Minior would have the different colors.

Thanks for reading! Next up, Gen VII introduced a whole new concept for Pokemon variation, introducing regional forms. First up, Alolan Rattata picks a fight!

Character Sheet: The Jangmo-o Line

JANGMO-O/HAKAMO-O/KOMMO-O

Next up, skipping over a whole long list of standalones, we come to the pseudo-legendaries of this generation, the Jangmo-o line, based on Komodo dragons as well as the Maori war dance, the Haka. They pull their name from a Hawaiian mythical reptile, but honestly Salandit and Salazzle bear more similarities with them, and are covered in armor based on various Polynesian cultures.

Here's the moveset I came up with:

Standard B: Headbutt > Outrage (III)

Side B: Dragon Tail > Dragon Claw (II)

Up B: Work Up > Dragon Dance (II)

Down B: Iron Defense > Clanging Scales (III)

Final Smash: Devastating Drake > Clangorous Soulblaze (III)

Entrance: Poke Ball

Taunts: Doing the haka dance feels appropriate. Also clanging its scales together and things like that.

Kirby Hat: Their head plates

Kart: The Poke Ball car

Special Move: Clanging Scales

Spirit Battle: On Altar of the Sunne

Victory Screen: Doing the last steps of the haka dance and clanging its scales together.

Losing Screen: Fainted

Color Swaps: Main, shiny, other general colors

Thanks for reading! Next up, lets go back and cover all the standalones from this generation. First up, Oricorio adapts to battle!
